We stopped into Countrys Sunday and our visit was a mix of good and bad. When we arrived and entered the restaurant, we were not greeted. Four young ladies were standing around the counter talking and not paying attention to us. Finally a young man from the bar area came over and led us to a table. Our waitress did a great job of taking care of our table and a couple others that the other waitresses were not paying attention to. We ordered Vidalia Onion dip and it was delicious. When we unwrapped the silverware in the napkin we found it dirty and our waitress took care of it immediately. We both ordered salads with the homemade thousand island dressing. Then it was onto the family favorite fried chicken tenders, hand-cut french fries, which my wife's cornbread didn't arrive with the meal and when it did it was burnt. All of the meats were cooked well, the sausage was my favorite! Ordered sweet potato fries and a grilled jalapeño. The sweet potatoes were crispy. I tried all three sauces and the honey mustard one was my favorite! Initially we were going to eat at the restaurant but it was a little too cold outside and I was with my dog but the waitress was kind and packed the food to go, so service was awesome. I am from Texas and worked here in Columbus, GA for one week and decided to get some barbecue. I had passed this place a couple of time and decided to stop in and order to go. What a big mistake. This is not barbecue. The ribs were very dry and some parts burnt. The entire meal was cold. Ordered the three meat combo and all the meats were cold along with the baked beans which seemed to have been sitting in a warmer for 12 hours. The food was bland and cold we ordered the barbecue charcuterie board and it wasn't even warm very cold and disappointing the sauces were very disappointing more vinegar than anything else. It was 6:30 pm was very busy but our server was trying her best to accommodate us but the problem was the kitchen they had under portion the platter and again it was cold and dried out nothing was fresh about it the French fries were oily and old disappointing. I would leave zero stars if that were an option. They weren't that busy when we got there at about 8:15 pm on a Friday, so we were seated immediately. Our orders were taken, and our drinks werè brought to us. Then nobody (including the manager and our waitress who brought us our drinks) came back to our table until my wife was able to get someone's attention at about 9:00, at which point we were informed that our order had not been turned in. (Still no manager; either they didn't know what was happening in their store, or it didn't bother them that much) I understand that accidents happen, and if any effort had been made to make it right, this would be a very different review, but this shows a lack of competence and professionalism from more than one person. So now, it's after 9:00, we still have to find someplace to eat, and after that, we have 1 1/2 hrs to drive home, because we don't live in Columbus. 2 weeks ago my sininlaw ordered the baked potato with pork and someone ordered barbecue pork platter, about 2 hours after eating she was have stomach cramps and diarrhea, with nauseous symptoms same 2ith our broker. Took her a week to be able to eat after being sick for 4 days the other brother 3 days, I told them today at countrys and the manager Scott said we feet people everyday none else got sick ,we'll im glad but it dosnt take away the fact these 2 people who live in 2 separate houses did. Went here because i saw a line of cars waiting outside for takeout. felt like a joes crabshack but for BBQ cause of the props. the server was extremely kind and cute. Her service was top notch and communicated well oh what was offered. i had the beed brisket and my daughter had the bbq ribs. the brisket seemed a little dry while the bbq was slightly bettee. I didn't get it. The place was recommended to me by some locals, but I'm not quite sure why. I suppose maybe I'm being harsh with 2 stars, but I didn't find anything special about the BBQ or the food in general. We did have a first-time waitress too, who clearly hadn't been well-trained. She tried, but it just didn't work; I'm not sure why she wasn't shadowing someone and getting further training. I don't even blame her; that's a restaurant issue. After the fact, some other locals said this is the worst of the Country's locations, but I have to believe there are better options than this in the area, regardless of the size of it. read more

Country's is the epitome of consistency. They are always good and have been for years. The pulled pork is good and the barbecue chicken is delicious. I think sides sets Country's apart. The collards are excellent and they have the best home fries in town. The Brunswick stew is also hard to beat. It has enough meat in it to make it hearty and is seasoned perfectly. The deserts are unique and delicious. My favorite is the buttermilk pie. It's not quite as good as mine but it is good. The chocolate chess is wonderful as well. There's a reason Country's has been around as long as it has been. It's good, you get good service while you're there (and always have) and it's just a fun place to go. I often think that the ambience the country says it's what a barbecue restaurant should be. Fun stuff on the walls that's a picture of Columbus through the years. I seldom do reviews, but just had to on this. Ordered telephonically from Country's on Whittlesey. Food was brought out to my car timely. Arrived home, opened tray....good presentation. However, the potato salad was awful, and the potatoes were too large for potato salad. 2 pieces of ribs on top, covered the BURNT pieces underneath. I know food is high, however BURNT food should be trashed, and not sold to customers. The "grilled" bread, wasn't even close to grilled. Baked beans were pretty good. Didn't eat a bite of the chicken. I told waitress and she said, Oh, I'm sorry." I'm not one to make a scene, so I just asked for our check. When we paid the cashier asked how we enjoyed our meal, I told her the ribs were good but the chicken was raw. She said, I'm sorry. Your bill is 32.00." They really didn't seem to care. So great we ate here two nights in a row. The staff are awesome. Shout out to Madi and Carli (sorry if misspelled) who served us Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Our glasses were never half empty, great personalities, and they made some great recommendations. Tuesday night is all you can eat BBQ chicken... awesome, juicy, crispy skin... did I mention all you can eat. Get a salad and make sure to ask for all the toppings! Their banana pudding is the best!! Don't sleep on the banana pudding!! Thursday night I tried the brisket tacos. Delicious! Make sure you get two of them as Carli recommended. If you order just one, you'll regret it. I get it, busy place plenty of food being served and if you don't have your order ready can get lost pretty quickly about your order. I read a few reviews and decided to give it a try even after a colleague not from Columbus decided to give it another shot - biggest disappointment was the cornbread.. I saw many pics of the cornbread (stay away, hard, etc) but I said let me be my own judge.. FAILED. Do NOT order the cornbread because you will be disappointed because it was hard as ____ll, and I didn't even taste because the color and it being hard as a rock saved my stomach. The bbq chicken was good, add bbq sauce which is on the table in 3 different flavors (blah) but overall better than the rub or cued up chicken. This is a great restaurant if you are on a low carb or keto diet (unless you can't resist a piece of chocolate chess pie or banana pudding) for dessert. The portions are plentiful and vegetables are from local farmers. Country's sets itself apart from other local barbecue joints by offering a larger array of sides and fresh veggies other than your normal bbq staples like stew, slaw and beans. This is very close to farm to table without high farm to table prices. Service is friendly and fast, except for a few items like hamburger steak or fried chicken, but it warns you on the menu that those will take a little longer. I've enjoyed Country's since I was a little girl. It wasn't unheard of for families to get a Turkey for Thanksgiving or a ham for Christmas. The dressing is delicious too. You also don't find many bbq restaurants that serve beer! On this occasion I had the bbq salad and my mom had the grilled chicken plate. Both were phenomenal. It was actually a native of Columbus that we met at a local Barnes and Nobles who recommended Country's Barbecue. Having no concept of restaurants in the area, we tried it out. So let's get one thing out of the way....Country's Barbecue WILL feed you. Their dishes are big and you likely will be full after your meal. We ordered the following: Conglomeration Platter ($12.99) Barbecue pork sandwich ($4.89) Pig Skins (about $5) The Pig skins came out first, and we were just thinking they would be a bowl of house made skins. Instead they were skins covered with hot sauce and blue cheese. Salt and fat you say? Gotta admit, it worked, and it worked well! Sadly i'd say this was the highlight of our experience. Our meals came out, both the sandwich and the platter. The platter came with two sides, while the sandwich just comes as a sandwich only. I didn't try the sandwich at all, but my girlfriend said it was okay. Let's talk about the Conglomeration platter though. The platter came with ribs, pulled pork and pulled beef.....or it was supposed to come with pulled beef. Instead there were two large piles of pulled pork. We did get a side of beef to go after bringing it up to staff, which was very helpful! The problem however was the beef was actually much more dry than the pork! Ribs were good, pulled pork was flavorless, sauces were not really good to me, having a mix of mustard sauce, sweet BBQ sauce and a vinegar based sauce. Sides I selected for my platter were a sweet potato and baked beans. I thought the beans were far too sweet. The sweet potato on the other hand was good....huge but good. Customer service here at Country's wasn't bad. Staff were informative and moved to get things done quickly. I also enjoyed the nice touch of the mason jars for water and the brown paper that covers the table that you can draw on with provided crayons. Nice touch! Parking is plentiful here, and there's a ton of items you can purchase here, from shirts, to sauces, or you could just look over the props they have all over the wall that do make for good conversation starters. I think Country's Barbecue has done a great job carving out their audience, and the people who love them, love them. The place was packed, and it seemed to have crowds every time we passed by, so they're definitely doing something right. Ultimately, the problem with Country's for me is i've had much better barbecue, and I expect more from my barbecue.
