First, the service was wonderful and our waitress did ask my husband to check his steak before she left us so he could make sure it was cooked the way he wanted. He had ordered a medium rare New York Strip but it came raw and cold in the middle. They cooked it more for him but it also had some hard grizzle and unrendered fat. He also chose the seasonal grilled veggies as one of his sides and what you see is what he got, 2 slices of zucchini and 1 slice of squash...it was kind of absurd. Brussel sprouts were delicious, however, he definitely felt like his meal was not worth the cost. The beef empanada appetizer and my pumpkin pesto pasta with steak were delicious. We also got key lime pie for dessert and it was more of a tart and very small. Not sure the dessert was worth the cost either. The restaurant was almost completely empty while we were there as most people were upstairs in the bar area watching a football game. I've been wanting to try Wicked Hen since last year and we finally enjoyed them last month. My son had yet another military graduation and we celebrated over brunch. This may be one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus. The food was sooooo yummy! I started with a mimosa and we shared the fried green tomatoes and an order of deviled eggs. I had the shrimp and grits (because, well... shrimp and grits are my all time FAV!) and my son had the chicken tendies. My Mom enjoyed a salad. Our meal was absolutely outstanding. Service was great! Went on a Sunday and it was not really busy. Only about two other parties. The food did take a long time to get to us. Once we got it, it wasn'5 really all that great. To visit on a Wednesday around 1:15 pm and walk into an establishment with two other guests present was quite surprising. When I left at 1:40 pm, there were still only three guests and that included MUAH! I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and filling the shrimp and grits were. Because there weren't many patrons present, I didn't expect to wait long and I didn't. I would usually order a glass of wine or mimosa; however, I was on a lunch break and I don't drink on the job. I didn't know this establishment was open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays so I look foreword to returning, and honestly, it doesn't matter if the place is packed or empty. My wife and I visited Wicked Hen for the first time on a recent date night. The restaurant is nice, but they seem to be suffering from the labor shortage. We ate upstairs, which was a bit chilly, and even though it was less than half-full, there were delays because there was only one person working the entire floor. He was a new employee and nice but obviously frazzled. The food itself was good but pricey, which was not unexpected. We had the pumpkin seed encrusted trout and chicken Marsala, along with deviled egg mini-bagels. All were very good, but the chicken portion left my wife hungry. My wife also loved the Water Moccasin drink, while I liked the Porch Pounder. At $14, the drinks were very expensive for a 4-ounce glass. It's definitely a special occasion place. They definitely caught my eye. The two I chose for lunch were the pork belly and the duck egg rolls. The duck egg rolls were spot on. Very flavorful With a hint of spice. Ordered 2 appetizers only to be told a few minutes later they were out of both on what was not a super busy night. The ribeye I ordered was supposed to have chimichurri but came out with some parsley sprinkled on top. I guess they thought they could just throw some green stuff on top and no one would be the wiser. My wife had chicken marsala but the sauce looked and tasted nothing like marsala sauce. Was intown visiting from Atlanta and searched for "brunch" options on the yelp app and this place was one of the first options to pop up. We got there about 1130ish and my friend and I were seated right away. The don't have a huge menu but what they have is good. I ordered the brunch burger well done and fried egg fried hard....lol not bloody meat or runny eggs for me. Anyhow the food was delish and I left full. Mallory was our server, she was friendly amd efficient. Their sweet tea is perfect not too sweet and not sweet enough. They have outdoor dining spaces upstairs and downstairs. When I previously lived in Columbus, I went to the Wicked Hen for a sorority sisterhood dinner. The dinner was good. However, my most recent visit was for brunch and that was not still the case. I was so excited to find a brunch spot in Columbus, but unfortunately, this one did not do the job. The food was neither flavorful nor exciting. They put a really weirdly flavored/textured sauce on the eggs that made them horrid while already bland. Overall, my experience was just "ok". Fabulous service by Caroline. Caroline provided great recommendations and did not rush us during dinner service. Fabulous farm to table restaurant. When going to a farm to table restaurant do not be in a hurry. There was 4 of us at the table and two of us ordered the chicken Marsala. If you are a sauce person like we are order extra sauce on the side. It is a very hearty dish. Great comfort food. I was nervous at first when I saw that the fresh spinach wasn't cooked but never judge a book by its cover because it worked. Another person ordered the pork chop special but requested everything on the side because they don't like their food touching and he loved his dish. The pork chop was cooked perfect. The rice had a surprisingly spicy kick to it. Another person ordered the special crab cake with lots of crab meat. Don't forget about dessert. One person ordered the key lime pie and loved it. I ordered the bread pudding with extra sauce. Loved the texture of the breading pudding with the pecans. I would have licked my plate if I could have gotten away with it. My friend said the margarita was excellent! The bowl of tomato soup was outstanding. Would love to see a mini grill cheese to go with it. Since the restaurant is named wicked hen I would love to see a signature dish of buttermilk fried chicken on the menu. P.S. The entrance and parking lot is back behind the restaurant. I want to start with the positive. We ordered shrimp tostadas and Wicked chicken salad and both were really good. The portions were good for brunch and both dishes were flavorful. That being said, the menu was not very appealing. We had a difficult time choosing and the prices seemed high for the items served. Next, the service was subpar. The server didn't come back to check drinks, left us for a long time after food was served, and was not friendly overall. Lastly, the restaurant was empty. We were seated by the window. It was 95 outside and it was so hot in this location that everyone was perspiring. Oddly, only two more tables were seated while we were there and they were seated directly on either side of us. It was awkward to carry on a conversation. Management needs to train the staff to better anticipate what makes a dining experience pleasant. read more

This is an excellent example of why chef owned restaurants are superior. We ordered the chili lime shrimp which were a special for an appetizer. They were outstanding. The sauce was not overstated which was a pleasant surprise and the breading and cook on the shrimp were perfect. For the main course, we ordered the Wicked Hen. Again, I was very impressed with the breading and the doneness of the chicken. It came with linguine with a pimento sauce that was, again, not overstated. I thought the linguine was intentional as the dish was sort of like a southern take on chicken parm but the waitress told us that they had run out of macaroni which is fine because I thought it worked well. Wife got the lamb burger which she ordered well done due to personal moral failing. The bun was dense which kept the burger together and the sauce was again very good. We were waited on promptly and the food came out quickly. Overall I was very happy to have been able to eat here. I got the impression that it was a serious kitchen ran by professionals. Unfortunately the restaurant was essentially empty which is ironic since this was the best meal I've eaten in Columbus. read more
