I had such high hopes for this spot but sadly it feel short. The fried chicken was not only lukewarm but bland once you go past the extensive crust. The greens were bland as was the Mac n cheese. The yams were spot on but cornbread was dry. Great concept with the full service buffet but please keep the food warm and maybe put your foot in the cooking. Folks that come to eat southern soul food need to have it seasoned and seasoned well. And while I appreciate the soulful music, must it be turned up to the point you can't hear yourself think. Cafeteria style eating. We ate lunch here on a Sunday after church. We both had the fried chicken. It was so yummy, but we both would have liked a better serving size (two small drums for me). I had collards, mashed potatoes and gravy with cornbread. My husband had macaroni and green beans with a roll. All our sides were awesome and well portioned. The service was very courteous, and fast. First soul food restaurant since moving to Georgia. The main reason I am giving them 2 stars instead of one is because of the yams and the sweet women working there. If you're looking for Soul Food this is definitely the place to go. Its a nice Christian environment with great food. When I went they had turkey wings on the menu, I think they serve this on Thursdays. So of course when I visit home I try to go on Thursday. Very nice and welcoming staff. Was starving coming in, opted for sausage and two sides. Price is right, but i left a little hungry. Maybe i'll have to pay for additional meat next time or perhaps i was just out of my mind hungry going in. Overall taste was ok. Not good enough to make me want it twice a week but not unpleasant where i wouldnt come back. I'd rather they go a little overboard on seasoning and spark it up a bit, but i know conversely there are those that perhaps want their food a little bland and season at table themselves. I'm not really sure what's happened here, but the macaroni and cheese is different than it used to be. They used to use a different type of pasta, and the whole recipe just seems different. It makes me sad because the macaroni and cheese was the best I ever had and now it's pretty mediocre. Everything else seems to be okay. I'll update if anything changes. Edit: I've eaten here since and the macaroni has gotten better, though it's still not as good as it used to be. Oh, well...I still love going here. I'm also not sure what Shanell's talking about with the price, but a meal like she describes is between $7-9 depending on what meat you get and what day you go. read more

It may not look amazing from the outside, but the food is so good it doesn't even matter. I had a vegetable plate. The macaroni and cheese was amazing, the squash casserole had nice flavor and the sweet potatoes were good. The tea was a little sweet but with lots of ice it's good. Remember last time I mentioned the servers could be friendlier? Well today's encounter definitely helped me decide it'd be my last. The servers were their same unfriendly selves with me but they were very rude to a guy ahead of me. The guy only asked which pieces of chicken he could get and they were very snappy and rude as if he agitated them. He kept his composure and nicely explained this was his first time coming there. We go here at least weekly for lunch and the food is DELICIOUS! If you want some southern style/soul food dishes, this is the place to go. It is a buffet style set up so you are basically in and out quickly, but stay at your leisure because you are never rushed. I would say the best part of this restaurant is Alton (hope that is spelled right), he knows us when we walk in, what we want to drink and if our favorite table is available that is where he places our drinks. He is such an awesome guy! When we come here for lunch it is like going home for the holidays, we know we are arriving for a delicious home cooked meal! read more

Highly overrated! The fried porkchops were hard and the mac n cheese was nothing special. Over $14 for a meat, 2 sides, a drink and a tea was an absolute waste of money! I should have gone with my first mind and went to JB's Dollar Scoop on Brown avenue where I could have gotten the same thing for half as each item is only....$1! Great place to eat if you like not so friendly staff and food that is way over spiced. I have never heard of "hot" potato salad! My wife is from Texas and is used to spicy food but even she could not finish it. My corn was also very spicy. I had the smothered pork and it is smothered for a reason - most of it was fat, there was little meat. Oh yea, I brought my Ledger Deal Saver certificate and they would not accept it, saying that was no good on Sundays. No where on the certificate does it say that (we bought it back in October). My family and I just came from Sugga's Restaurant and we decided to give our first rating. When we entered, we embraced the nice southern setting, but the atmosphere quickly became stagmented due to the lack of warmth from the greeter. She seemed complacent, and as if she did not want to be there (or anywhere on earth for that matter!). The buffet of foods were avertised neatly and looked great. However, the servers were not as helpful to me as they were to OTHERS! I was standing there waiting on her to assist me in how my meal was to be completed (my first time there) and she stared at me and said- "well, I'm waiting on YOU!" Can we say- NOT the definition of southern hospitality!!! (ugh! eyebrows raised up very high... glad I dont shave the all off and draw them b/c I am sure I would have looked SUSPECT!) The food was average. The sweet tea was the best thing about the whole entire experience. YES! The sweet tea was the only thing we could not complain about. Today my family and I were feeling adventerous and were turned on to Sugga's by a friend who loves great food so we gave Sugga's a try. The sweet tea was sensational, their tilapia had flavor that was not traditional, but rather creative, full of unique tastes, but without salt as the main spice! The service however average delivered a top quality dinner that exceeded my expectations. They have a buffet style line set up where you go to the glass window and point to what is on the menu for that day. They have an array of meats from baked fish to fried chicken or if Hamburger steak & gravy is your thing, there is something for everyone! I chose 2 veggies which were the yams and the squash/zuchinni casserole. This was not your ordinary casserole or yams! The yams tasted like they were slow baked whole, then divided with spices such as brown sugar and black pepper-which is new to me but pleasant! I know sweet potato, and these weren't the canned kind. They were firm yet moist and they didn't have the usual canned color. The squash/zuchinni combo? MARVELOUS. the veggies were by no means mushy or over cooked, they were not over seasoned nor greasy. They were just what I would want all such casserole to taste like, but I like a little cheese added. I ordered mash pots with brown gravy for my sons, and mac & cheese with baked chicken. The mac was made with Ziti pasta, and tasted like home made mac & cheese amazingness, the zing of the sharp cheddar, the milk to moisten the dish after baking it, and the black pepper to waken the pasta. WoW! I went on a monday, I am not sure what other days hold, but I just bet any other day is as good. Prices are the same as a combo meal at wendy's but the quality is high standard, not fast food. The setting had some very rustic decor, dim lit but very formal which is impressive for a soul food joint on the south side/mid-town area. The drink options were tea or lemonade, but if you show up, be ready to amaze your taste buds and quench your thirst with some good ol' southern style fare. Lunch today Sugga's Harmony Place. Smothered chicken was old left over stringy dry fried chicken reheated in a sage/thyme gravy. Barely warm, Yams had a little taste of soap. Green beans were over cooked and mushy. Sweet tea and cornbread were fine. Total over $10 with tip. Bad food . Will NEVER return. read more

I went to the new location on Airport Thruway. I wanted macaroni and cheese as a side. The young lady wanted to serve the dried portions left in the pan (it wasn't enough for a serving). I asked if more was being cooked and she replied 15 minutes. After 30 minutes we still had not been served the mac n cheese. We asked for it and it was eventually brought out. The restrooms had no paper towels, the carpet going into the restroom is absolutely filthy, most of the tables had not been cleaned for previous guests and other than the mac n cheese the food was barely warm. I don't recommend this place and will not return. read more
