Order at the counter. Seating is a counter on each side with a few stools.

This was a bookmark although I can no longer remember the source that led me to bookmark it. I suspect they were bookmarked for the mustard emphasis in their coleslaw and their bbq sauce. Now that I've tried it, I'll just say "been there, done that ". Know that the sauce comes on everything. I tried the ribs and they were ok. I enjoyed the mustardy coleslaw. My wife ordered the chicken and when we discovered that the sauce came on it, that became take home for me for later. I should have asked about that sauce. I will say that the chicken was a generous portion: 3 leg/ thigh pieces. If only I had just asked about that sauce. She did enjoy her pecan pie lunch though. : ) The place is small and seating consists of stools at counters on both walls. Obviously their major business is take out. You order at the counter and wait. Our order was filled quickly. There is a small parking lot on the side of the building.

Ordered 2 Lg Chipped sandwiches with 1 side of beans, 1 of mac and 1 slice of pecan pie. You get what you pay for ($14 for all that^)! Good for the price, but sandwich was lacking in sauce, sides were definitely not made in store, and pecan pie isn't fresh (but we like that type of pecan pie;)) Thanks for having us today, Chester's.

I stopped by for lunch. First visit. Decided to try the mac and cheese, collard greens, pork large sandwich and chicken large sandwich. The collard greens were the best item out of everything. The chicken seemed to be pulled from drumsticks and the chicken itself was dry. The pork was nothing special. Didn't seem to have any flavor in the pork. Mac and cheese was definitely different and I wouldn't get again

Chester's is a town favorite around Columbus GA. So I went yesterday and got a large rib plate with Mac and cheese. So the ribs at Chesters are good, but the only thing I hate about this is they have some much fat on them. I couldn't eat half of the ribs do to the all the fat. I also didn't check my plate before I left and I didn't get get my Mac and Cheese. The customer service has and will always be great, and all the prices for most plates will be under $10. I have had some good fried chicken wings from the Chesters off 165 in Ft. Mitchell, Al. So when in town and if you like mustard base BBQ sauce then this is the place for you.

Fantastic. Made it in there 5 minutes before there was a line out the door. Texture of the "chipped sandwich" was fantastic. Lightly sauced, not messy and with a great smoked flavor. Will be back.

Somone told me that Chester's was the best bbq in town so I decided to check them out for myself. Let's start with parking... they do have a parking lot but it is soooooo small but there's street parking on the side of the building as well. I have been to Chesters at least 4 more times since the first time and it's all because of the chili dogs... OMG, the first time I ordered one of the chili dogs I was a bit surprised when I saw kidney beans on the chili dog but I am so glad I didn't judge a book by its cover. Those chili dogs are the bomb!!! I've also tasted the chipped pork sandwich and mac and cheese and i wasn't really impressed. The greens, on the other hand, are pretty good. I've tried to order the banana pudding a couple of times but they never have any. :(

While visiting the grandparentals, a few family members had a taste for some good ol' bbq... so we decided on Chesters (most of my family grew up around the corner) for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, you get an amazing whiff of smokey goodness. (Im telling you, I got so excited when i took in the aroma!). Heads up, Its a carry-out type of resrurant & its pretty cramped inside for walk-up customers only. We decided with 2 slabs of spare ribs. Unfortunately they informed us that they only had 1 slab left, but we could wait for 30 minutes for a second slab (bummer). It was quite odd getting that news bc it was only 5 in the afternoon so i hope they can fix the logistics on meal prepping for busy Friday nights in the future. We waited for about 15 minutes, and our order was ready!! Now, heres the great news.... They had more slabs!! Woo-hoo!! That excitement didn't last long at all because upon eating my first bite, all i could think of was early onset hypertertion. Those ribs were soooooo salty!! I could barely enjoy them. They have a mustard base bbq sauce that was pretty tasty, and this sketchy looking yellow coleslaw that came with the slabs that I stayed far away from, but the fam thought it tasted delish! Although I was pretty un-enthused about the ribs, I would definitely give it a second go around the next time I'm in the city!

Four words: FIVE DOLLAR RIB TRAY. And these aren't some dainty ribs that look like they came off a prairie dog. We're talking big, meaty ribs that are dripping with a savory combination of their own natural juices and Chester's signature tangy mustard-vinegar sauce. Now, I've been a huge fan of mustard BBQ sauce since I first tasted the sweet golden nectar in the midlands of South Carolina, where it originated. This particular style of sauce is rarely seen outside of SC, and even more rarely perfected. But this humble-looking hovel in Columbus, GA really gives the Palmetto State's best BBQ joints a run for their money. If your mouth isn't already watering, you can check out some tantalizing rib footage from my first visit to Chester's via the link below. The video is from a tour that I did with my band Milktooth and also features some clips from Fat Matt's BBQ in Atlanta. Chester's BBQ video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7wJBAaDhbg As you can see in the video, this Chester's location consists of one room where customers can place their order at the counter and then wait for their food (it's take-out only). As some other reviewers have mentioned, this place is located in a seemingly rough part of town. But don't let that scare you away. Both times I've been there, the room was filled with very friendly folks and families with little kids. There's also plenty of street parking right out front, in addition to their side lot. If you're still concerned, make sure to go during daylight lunch hours. Now back to the food: I've already mentioned the $5 rib tray, which seriously stands out as one of the top 5 BBQ experiences of my life. If a pile of ribs doesn't pique your interest, you can try their barbeque chicken tray for the same price. Both trays come with a side of slaw, which is steeped in a thin mustard-vinegar sauce. I'm not much of a slaw guy, but my friends enjoyed it. Another side item that I ordered was a cup of their BBQ beans, which I believe cost me around $1. The beans were a little bland for my taste...until I drizzled in some of the leftover mustard sauce from my ribs. Needless to say, that did the trick. I topped things off with one of their 99¢ "chipped" (pulled pork) sandwiches, which my bargain-o-meter wouldn't let me leave without trying. Being gluten-free myself, I removed the bun and mixed the meat in with my order of beans. The decently-sized pork portion was tasty and tender and probably would have been enough to write a good review about on its own...had it not been completely overshadowed by the ribs' majesty. To sum things up: if you are ever near Columbus and you like barbeque, I would HIGHLY recommend Chester's. Grab a rib tray, take a short drive east to Riverwalk park (http://ht.ly/2eBqS), and enjoy an unforgettable meal on the banks of the Chattahoochee. You won't regret it.

$8.99 rib tray w/sides (corn bread muffin, collard greens, potato salad, 2 slices of bread, & cole slaw.

Visited Columbus on business, stopped by Gus's on the way back to the hotel. Interesting having Carolina-style BBQ in Georgia. You can smell the barbeque smoking all down the block. Waited in a line of 4-5 locals, that's a pretty good sign. Ordered the rib plate with corn bread, collard greens, potato salad, and bread. Good deal for under $9. The Carolina-style vinegar-mustard bbq sauce was different and interesting. The ribs themselves were decent but a little on the scrawny side. It still made a tasty, filling, & reasonable meal. Very enjoyable and one to repeat whenever business takes me back to Columbus!

My family and I stayed in Columbus, GA for my brother's graduation from basic training. One meal he craving was good BBQ. This was only a block away from our Airbnb, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered 3 slabs of ribs, corn bread, Mac n cheese, and this beef stew dish. This fed 7 people. It also came with cole slaw and this honey mustard sauce. I was a little confused when we were given honey mustard. We asked if there would be bbq sauce and the hostess said it would be on the side. I'm not sure if that's the sauce it comes with or if it was a mistake. But either way my brother loved it! He poured that honey mustard sauce over his ribs and made no complaints! We could of done with 2 slabs of ribs vs. 3 slabs. We had left overs. We waited about 15 minutes for our food and took it home to eat.

Delicious barbecue at a good price, slaw is very tasty with a vinegar dressing not too creamy. Friendly service, too.

If you don't come on over to Chester's and try the ribs you can't call yourself a true rib connoisseur. Best ribs I've ever had.

We noticed some folks sitting on the bench by the line and learned they were waiting for "dressing" which they recommended we try. We ordered two ribs plates and one baked chicken plate, dressing, collards, yams, and butter beans. Since they had sold out of cornbread we defaulted to a white dinner roll. Then onto the homemade lemonade and sweet tea. Service was great! Authentic and warm to the first time customers, they obviously had regulars who were greeted lovingly by name. All the line servers answered my questions and patiently waited for our selections. We even met "Little Ed" son of the restaurant's namesake, who was so kind! The food delivered nicely spiced ribs, tender, fall-off-the-bone baked chicken and tender collard greens. The prized jewel of Ed's for us was the dressing - wow, just delicious! I mixed mine up with the butter beans for a small protein twist. We were so satisfied that we brought home the yams for a treat later. Summary: The people are friendly and the food is the definition of comfort. Stop by for the experience and don't forget to close the bathroom hallway door- lol, a nod to our youngest son aka rule follower.
