I had the huge honor of being invited to get a sneak peek at the new Clearview before it opened to the public. Sadly, I had never been before so I can't compare it to how it used to be. But what I do know is that this was excellent. The Dixon family has gone in and done a huge overhaul on the place. The kitchen has been totally updated and the dining area has been also. Everything is clean and well functioning. You go to the counter and order and then go find a table. The place is small and the number of tables is limited. Once your order is ready they bring it out to you. You get a cup and there is tea and a fountain drink machine for you to fill up your glass. The bbq was amazing. Very tender and flavorful. I ordered a medium bbq plate and it was more than I could eat. I love the chopped bbq. You can also get sliced and chipped. I believe I heard them say the same man that used to do the cooking of the meat, is still the one doing it. They also have clearview bbq sauce and the Dixon family yellow jacket sauce. Both are excellent. We got to try the two pies. One was pecan and the other was a peanut butter pie (though I think it has a different name). Of the two, my friend and I felt the peanut butter one was the best of that kind we had ever had. They are open now and the wait is over. Run right over. You will be so glad you did. If you're going for the OG Clearview SAVE your money it is NOT the same. If you want DECENT Bbq then this is your place and if your tired of long lines go here but even with a short line the are slowwwwwwww. It's decent bbq as long as it's not compared to OG Clearview but even comparing it to other places in Columbus I would rather eat else where if giving the choice. To the owner!! Beg for the OG sauce recipe and your line will be out the door like it was before you took over. And work on being a tad faster with orders too! You can still keep your sauce if you like it or others like it but put out the OG sauce too! Have them come train your employees for a little bit and I promise your store will stay busy. I tried the BBQ chicken and chip sandwich both, we're not tasty with or without the sauce, the meat tasted liked it was unseasoned and just thrown on the grill. However I did try the hotdogs and susage because I was very hungry by now, which we're decent. I do not know if I came on a bad day or something ! Been around forever. Still cash only. The chipped sandwich is reliable and tasty. I like it with slaw. My family likes them without. It's hard to compare them to other BBQ places because the sandwiches are so unique. Decent sides, love the Brunswick Stew. This is an excellent place for fresh tasting bbq food. Being a soldier , I have traveled all across the states and the reason this place stands out is the bbq falls off the bone, never dry and easy to eat and enjoy. I have tried a few different meats and all were good. The sides are ok, but people are lined up here for the bbq. The staff has a great southern hospitality to them. They used to be great until 2020. I used to eat here when I was a student at CTC. They had the best sweet tea and 99 cent chipped sandwiches, a deal! I went back in 2020 with my young daughter so she could experience the best chipped sandwiches. Needless to say we had an abundance of bones in our sandwiches to the point I had to throw them away. Sorry to say it but you're best here with takeout, and that seemed to be their primary business. Service is extremely slow and the restaurant needs a thorough scrubbing. We have been eating at Clearview ever since I was a little girl....that ended today! I went in to pick up my order and as I was at the counter waiting to pay, a huge roach was on the ceiling and crawled into the fluorescent light fixture above the counter at the register! I stood back and waited on my order. One of the best bbq places I have ever eaten!!! Talk about melt in your mouth! The lines of parked cars out front at 3pm gave us a good clue that it was good, and boy were they right. We ordered the large bbq plate and the rib plate. Both plates were so worth it and melt in your mouth tender and we LOVED the sauces. We probably downed half a bottle of the middle colored sauce. The sauces were not my style. All very heavy with vinegar and mustard. The stew was so smooth you should call it a meat shake- could be eaten thru a straw. The slaw was ok. Blender slaw. I've been coming to Clearview Barbecue for over 5 years now, and Clearview is one of the best, if not THE best barbecue restaurants in Columbus. In fact, it's consistently better than Country's Barbecue. Everything Clearview offers is superb. The chipped BBQ is amazingly fine and saturated perfectly in sauce, the coleslaw made with gobs of mayonnaise is exactly what you expect a Southern BBQ restaurant to have, and the Brunswick stew is the best in Georgia, and the tea is mighty fine as well. The mustard based sauces pair perfectly with the barbecue and really bring out the flavor. Oh, and did I mention a family of 3 can eat here for under $10. I still can't believe it's so cheap even in 2017. Make sure to bring cash as it's the only form of payment they accept. read more
