Pleasantly surprised. I had the corned beef hash, which they make in-house. It was delicious. I mixed it into a bowl of grits. Carb-heaven (grits and potatoes). I took a nap as soon as I got home. Is everyone else as sick as we are of having to do take out or delivery orders of food bc of COVID? Then it comes cold or half-assed and you're like "I should have just gone to the grocery store.." Metro Diner is NOT that place. Their food is really good! My picky 4 year old ate most of his grilled cheese--which was cheesy, crispy and buttery--and the home fries were also crispy and had a really nice seasoning that complimented the potatoes but didn't overpower. I couldn't even get a photo before he started eating! My meatloaf was dense and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes are obviously home made and I loved that they left the skins in (red potatoes, BTW). Green beans had a bit of spice (very mild) but enough that you noticed they weren't your normal pan fried in butter beans. I asked for gravy on the side bc I don't like a ton of gravy on my food and got multiple gravy cups which was pretty cool. We ordered two drinks which came full to the brink of the cups. I ordered through DoorDash an hour before closing and had my food in Harris County within the hour and it was still outstanding even at a later hour before they closed. read more

This diner was a great find while I was at Ft Benning for additional training. Coming down from Jersey, diners are a staple and this diner did not disappoint. I am always hesitant to try diners outside of Jersey because a lot of the time places don't get it right but here they certainly did. I came here four times I think while at Benning for additional training. Three times for breakfast and once for lunch. Twice with a me and a guest and once with a group of six and once with a group of four. The staff handles being busy very well because this place is always packed. The food service is timely and always excellent. If you are in the area I highly recommend giving this place a visit for any meal. I do not think you'll be disappointed. read more

Don't get me wrong, the food is usually pretty good. But we were here the day after Thanksgiving and it was a $%&# show. Was told the wait was 30 minutes, more like an hour and 15 min. They our food took another hour. The wait staff did the best they could to keep us happy, but food simply wasn't coming out of the kitchen. Best breakfast joint I've ever been to. My husband and I love traveling and trying to new places... so we have tried a variety, but this tops them all. The staff is so energetic friendly and energetic. They truly care about their customers. They also have a huge menu and there is something for everyone. I'm vegetarian and got the avocado toast, which blew my expectations. They have a specials board and it has some of the coolest, most unique dishes on it. Food came out quickly as well. Every time I am in there I am so disappointed with the food. The fish and chips, have ordered 3 times now, just tastes like a plate of grease. I ordered a Monte Cristo once and after I waited a very long time after I ordered, my husband and daughter received their food approximately 20 minutes before mine has been served, they bring the sandwich to me sans jam! Who wants a Monte Cristo without jam? It also did not have powdered sugar. The fries were limp and left puddles of grease on my plate. The servers are typically apologetic and then the manager comes out, seeming annoyed, and after attempting us to re-order our food he ends up comping it and we leave immediately. Love this place, it has charm, rotating specials and the atmosphere is perfect. Our waitress was spot on (they use iPads for everything) and quick with everything, including the food. If this was my first time at Metro, I would not come back. I had the Bissell breakfast with an upcharge of cinnamon roll pancakes. My husband had the cinnamon roll pancakes. We both had patty sausage. Drinks were coffee and tea. The tea was ok but my coffee tasted burnt which was such a disappointment. In the past, I have enjoyed the coffee enough to buy some to take home for later, today I couldn't even finish a cup. Now, let's talk about the food. The pancakes were so overworked, you needed a knife to cut through them and the dryness would rival the dust bowl. These pancakes are supposed to have cinnamon swirl and cream cheese icing. Mine had precious little of both. The sausage was overcooked and had a peculiar taste. This is the second time we have been there when a certain manager was on duty. She seems to be a lovely person but it doesn't feel as if she has control of her crew. In the past, I have given 5 star reviews for food and service, this time, not so much. I really hope Metro can bring back the quality I have become accustomed to because if I have one more bad experience, I won't be back. This time and the previous were on weekends.
