Not what it used to be. Just okay now. Used to be a good restaurant. Even the fried chicken has gone down. Need Annie back.

When we first checked into our room in their Guesthouse, we had to walk through a corridor that was being painted. The fumes in the room were so overpowering, that I requested a move. They graciously accommodated, but the owner acknowledged that if he had thought to check his reservations, he would not have scheduled any painting at all. And, when I pulled out the sofa to make the bed, I found a ton of trash underneath.  The restaurant. When we checked in, I asked if we needed reservations at the restaurant. I was assured we did not as things were slow that night. I noticed that written on the door, the restaurant hours were from 5 - 9. When we  showed up at 8:20, I was told that the kitchen was closed. When I reminded them of what was written on the door, the response was that it was for the restaurant, but the kitchen closed at 8. I asked the receptionist to call the owner. No luck. I reminded her that I was a guest at the hotel and that I had mentioned that I wanted to eat at the restaurant when we checked in. Shouting match ensued and we were turned away.  A few ways I feel they could have handled it better:1- When I asked about dinner reservations, they could had made sure I knew that the kitchen closed at 8pm.2 - When we didn't show up, someone could have said , "Hey, you know that old couple staying in the Guesthouse? They said they wanted to eat dinner tonight. Should I go and knock on their door to see if they still want to eat here?"3- When we showed up at 8:20, clearly not understanding that we knew to come by 8, they could have said, "Hey, sorry about the communication disconnect. How about this: We'll throw a couple of steaks on the grill and fix a small salad and you two can take it back to your room to eat. Can this work?" Instead it is the condescending, so-sad-dad. BTW, We ended up eating at Los Azteca's Restaurant. We came in at 8:50 (they were closing at 9) and they couldn't have been nicer! We were the only people there, but they served us, the food was great and I left a big tip!) In summary: I really expect graciousness and "the guest's satisfaction is most important" attitude at any hotel I frequent. The forgetting to check before painting, the lack of thorough cleaning  and the poor treatment at the restaurant, really makes it hard for me to recommend this hotel.

Tonight, we enjoyed Grits Sticks that were piping hot with a delightful, pickled slaw. I ordered the amazing Shrimp and grits martini. Shrimp was seasoned and cooked to perfection along with creamy mushroom grits. OMG the bacon crumbles on top made it so-o-o good! Husband loved his crab ravioli in a light sauce. Never had a bad meal here in the years we make sure to stop. A real gem in this quant town 60 miles from Atlanta. Real southern fare with gourmet touch. Prices were more than fair compared to Florida eateries. White glove service from Sophie and upscale ambiance.

Basically it was served in a martini glass, which was very attractive and it was perfect. The shrimp was seasoned well the Grits had Gouda cheese in them and were delightful all in all it was absolutely delicious. We also tried their fried Grits sticks, which were very yummy again it's one of our favorite places to travel to in Georgia, highly highly recommended.

When I search reviews on a business before going, I don't just accept them at face value, but rather, read them and determine if the reviewers are just entitled brats. lol Now that being said: here we go... ha ha This place was the worst experience I can recall with a business in nearly 50 years of life. It was very cold outside, and looking at the online pics looked like it was open-air seating only. So I called them to ensure there was also indoor seating at this cool looking bar. It was 8pm. The man reassured us there were indoor seating options. He then asked "are ya'll coming tonight?" I replied that we were. He then said "how long?" I then asked what time they closed. He replied at 10pm. A little perplexed, I let him know we were on the way. Red flag #1. I told my husband I didn't want to feel rushed out the door if they were trying to close early and didn't really get the vibe they wanted our business. He suggested we just give them a try anyway. When we pulled up, we noticed maybe 3 cars in the parking lot of this very big property. Red flag #2. As we entered the hotel, the gentleman asked us if we called about the bar. We said yes and he directed us to the entrance doors. The entrance was essentially the exit... to the outdoors. HAHA It was approx 40 degrees outside. As my husband and I looked a little perplexed, a female approached where we were standing, never even looked at us or acknowledged us in ANY way and said to the gentleman, "WHAT DO THEY WANT?" He informed her we were there for the bar. We asked where the indoor seating was. Y'ALL... this man took us back in the hotel lobby and pointed at the lobby area. You want us to eat a late dinner and have drinks at this cool looking bar, but in actuality we sit where patrons eat their continental breakfast and are served by someone who has all but said "why are you here?" What?? So... my husband and I said no thank you and went to Cowboy Town which is a very short drive away. Please go there instead. Great food and drinks with a super cool small town vibe, live music, and barrel racing most weekends. Maybe when the weather is warm and the pool is open, The View would be a cool establishment. But it needs to be seasonal only and absolutely closed the remainder of the year. Bless it. I do believe the reviews you see are mostly BS. Please pay very close attention to the details of them.
