To say that this down-home goodness brought this Northern boy supreme joy is an understatement. My wife had the bake chicken, and I had the catfish, with both of us getting greens, Mac and cheese, and beans as sides. Topped it with melt-in-your-mouth peach cobbler, which pretty much put the Mrs. and I into a food coma - but what a way to go. To quote my wife "there is a place for salad and light fare, but this ain't it!" Courteous, friendly staff in the southern tradition. Look down at the cafeteria style of this place if you will, but true quality doesn't always mean fine linens and fancy outfits. In short - make this a stop when in the area, you won't be disappoi by

Wednesday about 12pm. Anyone passing through should definitely check out Glady's. Locals already know! Soul food, efficient friendly service, sit by the window and watch traffic or people watch in the dining room. This may sound dramatic but if I had to request a final meal this would be it!

First timer! My dad told me a year ago how tasty the food is here so we were leaving his doctors appointment and stopped by. Upon pulling up the line was hanging in the roadway. I pulled into the front driveway since the drive thru was full. As I parked we noticed the drive thru line was not moving and customers were waiting outside. I looked at the clock it was 11:15. Website says they're open from 11 to 4. There were 5 cars parked in the front about 6 in the back. The customers that were parked in the back walked around to dine inside along with the 15 other customers. We continued to wait and they finally unlocked the door at 11:35. We all went in lined up to be served buffet style. The dining area was immaculate! Tables and booths were clean. Adequate lighting, spacious with another dining area to accommodate an overflow. Nice decor from the pictures on the wall to the decor on the table as you walk out. The staff was friendly they took in consideration some were on their lunch break so they moved the line quickly. It was a site to see bc they also was working the drive thru. They had a staff member taking orders outside and she would bring them in to be filled. I ordered the dark meat baked chicken, collards, peas , fried green tomatoes and corn muffin. My dad had the same except he had white meat baked chicken. I immediately noticed the chicken was small not "steroid" looking chicken. I had 2 baked drumsticks and 1 short thigh. Again considering the size maybe that's why I was given 2 drumsticks not sure but either way it was very good. The sauce on the chicken was delicious! Chicken falling off the bone... Collards and peas were good - seasoned just right . Fried green tomatoes were crunchy seasoned to taste. I probably should've waited for the fresh batch though. I was tempted to get the "butter roll " cobbler but I passed due to time but I will get it on the next visit. I'm told they have the best in town! On my way out the drive thru was still busy but moving quickly. This is a family owned establishment if I'm not mistaken it was created by their mother - Gladys. Assuming the kids and grandkids are running it now. If you have a taste for country soul food and you're in Americus,GA stop by.

The sides shine brighter than the meat selections. It is a popular local spot. After living in the South for a few years I thought it was reasonably priced. In my mind more of a diner with a buffet selection where you choose your meat and two sides. It did not bowl me over but if you need a Southern touch this might be the place. It has a no frills sensibility.

Fried chicken, broccoli casserole and turnip greens

Delicious Southern food. I had fried chicken and turnip greens, with cherry cobbler for dessert. The staff was friendly and helpful. And nice ambiance. Will definitely return.

Small family restaurant that you have to go if you are in this town, family operated, the food is really good, fast and clean.

One objective coming down South was getting TRUE Southern Fried Chicken, and this place did the trick. Outstanding food and sides. Blackberry cobbler delicious as well. KFC was nothing on them! Great job to the cooks and staff for making a drive thru an option! I can see why you needed to install one!! Also my girlfriend got the smothered pork chops with loads of brown gravy ALMOST better than the chicken. Place doesn't look like much from the outside, but a lot of heart on the inside! Thank you!! You made the trip

Great, down South home cooking! The line is long so you should arrive early but it's so worth the wait. I love the collards.

Great desserts. There are not too many places to eat in the area. I wish they were open more often.

The Silo Restaurant & Bakery

Went here after attending service at Marantha Baptist Church. This seemed to be a popular go-to…read moreafter service at the church, as I saw a lot of familar faces from the congregation and many of them had recommended the restaurant to us as well (or I guess not much is opened in the small town). The Silo is a small, meat and three, cafeteria-style restaurant, with a small, humble range of choices obviously cooked fresh. There really was only a plate option available with your choice of entree (fried chicken/meatloaf), 2 sides, cornbread, dessert (only pie that day), and sweet tea. The chicken was piping hot when we got it, tender and juicy but could've had a little more seasoning. The mac and mashed potatoes were decent, as well as the cornbread which had a nice bit of crust. I really liked the peanut butter pie I got, not too sweet and light enough to finish after a pretty heavy meal.

Honestly, it was just okay for me. We went on 10/14/18 after attending a Marantha Baptist Church…read moreservice. They were doing buffet style, they may do that all the time, not sure. For $9.95 you got, an entree (Fried Chicken Quarter or Baked Spaghetti), 2 veggies (MacCheese, Green Beans, Rutabaga, couple of others), Peach Cobbler, biscuit/cornbread, and tea. For a bakery, a DEEP south one at that, you would expect the cobbler to be really good...not so much. It was all edible, but something was off, perhaps it just wasn't seasoned enough. Like there wasn't any sugar or salt in anything. Everybody was super friendly, and these folks were FAST! The restaurant was clean and comfortable. It's one of the only food options in town, and the only thing available on this Sunday.

We went with my brother and his wife and daughter to eat at Pat's place, a beloved Americus tradition. I cannot remember a time in my life when Pat's place was not open. It actually is about the same age as I am. It got it started as a biker bar years and years and years ago, and then it transformed into a college hangout. Only most of the patrons are people who never went to Georgia Southwestern or they graduated so long ago that they're now retired from their jobs. So it kinda is a college bar just for people who graduated from college in 1980. My wife ordered a garden salad and we got some nachos and I got a Reuben with chips and an order of chicken wings. It was $75. And I've got to tell you none of it was anything special. You could get a better Reuben out of a sandwich machine. And if you don't order extra meat, what you end up with is a sauerkraut sandwich. The chicken wings they were Tysons chicken wings from a bag and they tasted like the dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets that my nieces eat. My nieces are under 10 years old. The nachos were mini Tostitos with a couple of three different cups of things served with them. The chili was OK. The guacamole was OK. The cheese sauce was nacho cheese sauce. Think about this as concession stand nachos or school lunchroom nachos. My wife's salad was delicious looking it was very good. She enjoyed it and it was a great deal. The rest of the meal was total garbage. And for $75 I expected better. Not a drop of beer was consumed. $75 included two cokes. And you have to bus your own table when you're finished. The service is always very good, they bring your food to your table after you order it at the bar. And it's not a proper bar either. It's just beer, I guess you could have a glass of wine but it's mostly beer and soft drinks. They're not putting on any airs at Pat. They're just charging too much.
