Nifty little place just off the Main Street in downtown americus... restaurant & bar on one side and fresh seafood shop on the other... both are small and simple and nothing fancy... and both are worthy with good food (and a larger menu for such a small slice) and fair prices and friendly service. The wait for our order was pretty hefty in length... but we all enjoyed conversation and a beer and the large screen TVs with the game playing -- so it was actually a gift to have to slow down a bit, and just "be" with friends. The only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that the service -- both eat in and carry out -- is very slow. Worth the wait, but a hefty hefty wait each time I gm have gone. read more

This is a good and bad review. My wife and I were not starved so we ordered a 2 piece flounder dinner with 2 sides to split. The sides were French fries and cole slaw and hush puppies. Every thing had an excellent taste. The flounder was especially good. So I am giving it a 2 because of the quantity of flounder. It was nowhere near enough for 1 person. I would have been extremely disappointed if I was the only one eating the serving of fish. The quantity of all the sides were as expected. read more

The service was great and they were very friendly there. They explained what deviled crab was. They do offer grilled and fried options of most of the fish there as well. I felt the fish was quite good but the sides were average. The hush puppies were good though. The food kind of felt like it took a long time to come out but I was very hungry so it may have just been me. We sat in the outdoor area so it was quieter than we think the inside was. The prices were also reasonable. If you want to know what deviled crab is: it's kind of like having crab cakes on the half shell. They were pretty good really. read more

Got the low country boil - delicious! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Dad got fried shrimp, scallops, and oysters with collards and fried okra. Shrimp, scallops, and okra were great. Oysters tasted good but were rubbery, and the collards didn't have much flavor. Still giving five stars because we would absolutely go back. We realized at about 10:15 that they close at 10pm (contrary to Yelp which said 11pm)...but they were super gracious about it. Just check the actual website for hours before going. read more

More delicate and mild flavored seafood should NEVER be battered/coated with heavy, salty catfish batter! Otherwise there is no reason to order those items. All you taste is the batter! I spent $24 for a platter including oysters, flounder, shrimp and scallops and it would have tasted the same if it were all just catfish. The seafood seemed fresh, although some of the scallops were rubbery and inedible. Very disappointed! read more

I had the 2 whole medium size catfish, fresh and perfectly fried, for the $10 lunch. Slaw was finely chopped. Field peas are good. Wife's fried shrimp was also good. Tartar and cocktail sauces are house made. Not the atmosphere to impress your date, but it's clean and the food is great. read more

I was so disappointed in this restaurant. They were busy but not to the extreme (there were some tables available) but we waited 90 minutes for our food. I ordered a garden salad as a side dish and am glad because the wait for the food was so long. The salad was very good and generous. About 45 minutes after waiting, the server informed a person in my party they were out of the fish she ordered. We understand that but why did it take so long to inform us of that information? When we finally got the order, the fish looked fine, but tasted burnt. The shrimp were small and very tough and chewy. The server was friendly but not especially attentive. read more

The food was DELICIOUS. After my first trip here, I had to return to find out if It was a fluke of goodness. The server was young, like a teenager, but she couldn't been because they serve beer. Trust me when I tell you...you would have to go to Apalachicola, FL to get fresher seafood. The staff is friendly, (very attractive too) and the food is good! The clientele is diverse, where you might see your gardener, and personal physician eating here at the same time...great ambience! Now we all know...there's going to be those people that you just can't please, no matter what...so with that being said, look at the number of positive reviews compared to negative reviews, and you can get an idea about how good this place is. Very good atmosphere that suits the college crowd with weekly games of trivia, corn-hole tournaments, and BINGO. It is also one of the only places I can think of in Americus where you can play KENO while watching sports on the big screens that they have located in the screened-in porch/bar area. They also have a non-smoking section for those to dine-in that is located near the kitchen. The Fish House is a great place to spend the end of a long days work and the staff will make you feel like a regular on your first visit. read more
