We tried the Metro Cafe for the first time tonight. We haven't said "wow" at a restaurant in 4 years. They got a "WOW" from us tonight. The service was amazing (thank you Stephanie) the food was incredible.Do yourself a favor, go for dinner and order chevapchichi and /or the Vienna schnitzel. It is to die for. Done right. Very good food, and a good value. We just had takeout dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. They don't seem to have many details about the dinner menu items on the online menu yet, but they were helpful when I called with questions. We had for main dishes: * whole sea bream with grilled veggies (the fish special of the day) * herb grilled chicken with asparagus and mashed potatoes (it's a thigh and breast, partially on the bone) * salmon with grilled veggies and potatoes * it came with several large pieces of grilled bread and butter on the side There weren't any dishes or sides we didn't like. We got some sides/starters too, but it definitely would have been enough food with the above mains only (we would order less next time): * mushroom salad (yummy with wild mushrooms and lettuce, good dressing) * zucchini pancakes-- came with 4 good sized zucchini pancakes; they were delish, but needed reheating since we were doing takeout (probably would be crisper in-house). There was some roasted red pepper sauce that went well with this. * steamed broccolini (we didn't even get to this one, because we got full on other stuff) There were three of us, and there's enough leftovers for lunch for a few of us tomorrow. The banana house special pancakes were delicious! I especially liked that they put sautéed bananas in between the pancakes, not just on top. The avocado salsa was also really yummy, I put it on top of the tofu scramble. The staff was attentive and helpful. Would definitely go back. read more

I tried to contact the e-mail for Metro that was provided to give them an opportunity to explain why I had this experience at this over 4 star restaurant. However, the e-mail contact kept bringing me back to their website. I am not placing blame, it may be my error. Anyway, my review of this restaurant - my husband and I came to this place a number of years ago when it was a Greek Restaurant. We drove to El Segundo and decided to have brunch at this restaurant as it was a familiar location. There was no wait and we were seated immediately. After perusing the menu I prefer lunch, my husband prefers breakfast. My husband decided on the bern and I asked the waitress what the soup of the day was - she went to check and told me it was some type of green bean soup - I thought great veggie and asked if I could have a taste to ensure I like it. She came back and said "I'm sorry we can't offer samples" - I replied "So you would prefer I order a cup or bowl and then find out I don't like it and then you have to dump the soup?" She shrugged. So I said "OK, I'd like the tuna sandwich - and I only eat the Albacore tuna not chunk. So I said "Oh is the tuna albacore she looked at me and said "Uh it comes in a can" - OK no problem she hasn't heard that question before and I am picky so she went to check and came back to inform me that it was too early to make a tuna sandwich. OK So I ordered the Petite Italian - for $13. When it arrived it looked yummy - however the cheese on top looked almost coagulated or maybe not melted enough so I asked for the cheese to be melted more as the eggs were not very hot. She took the plate brought it back and I dove in. The eggs had no real flavor, the two slices of rustic bread were yummy. I dipped them into the ketchup and the watermelon slice was flavorful at the very top but not so yummy in the middle and bottom. To say I was incredibly disappointed would be an understatement. $13 for this was highway robbery. My husbands dish - the potatoes were great - the chicken sausage not so much - Trader Joes breakfast sausage has much more flavor - the spinach mix was definitely good. If I am spending $35 for breakfast I believe I should be happy with the result and overall I was not. read more

My boyfriend got pancakes and ooo my it was amazing I had to steal a couple bites. You have to put your name down on a list when you first get there and there was maybe 6 groups ahead and of and we still got sat within about 10-15 mins so it wasn't bad at all. I got the prosciutto sandwich and felt like it was missing a lot of flavor but the salad they paired it with was amazing & I loved the touch of a watermelon slice with the meals. My husband and I were visiting from TX this weekend. We stumbled upon Metro Cafe because it was walking distance from our AirBnB. We loved everything about it! The outdoor seating was cute and cozy. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! We came back the very next morning because we couldn't stop talking about the French toast (with the amazing homemade jam) and the Smoked Salmon Benedict. Metro Cafe serves the best food in El Segundo and my favorite restaurant in town. I especially like their Chilean Sea Bass dinner with a variety of fresh vegetables. It's extraordinary as is the Salmon spaghetti . They have done a spectlacular job making their outside dining area welcoming and pleasant. I was really excited about Metro Cafe so our party of 4 didn't mind the 30 minute wait for a table. A server took our order and then went to sit in the kitchen and never came back to our table. (There's glass windows so we could see him.) When our food finally arrived an hour later, the food didn't look like what we thought we ordered and the manager jokingly said something like "You forgot what you ordered because it took so long to get it." I ordered poached eggs, but I received over-hard eggs (fried to a crisp). The potatoes were also very hard and the pancakes were as dry as could be. A lady at another table picked up her French toast and squeezed it to show the guy she was eating with how oily it was. Each plate averaged about $16 and in my opinion, the food was way overpriced. I don't mind paying for good quality food but this was not it. I know others had better experiences than mine, but I don't think I'll be going back to Metro Cafe anytime soon, if ever. read more

We stopped in for lunch to give it a try, our first restaurant experience after being locked down by COVID-19. Now we have passed this location many times as it has been several other restaurants that just didn't make it. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, but I received the grilled chicken sandwich, but nevertheless it was delicious. As I explained the mistake to the owner, he offered me a free dessert, but I declined. Overall use had a great dining experience, we will come back. read more

Okay so I really liked this place when it was Petros Kafe and I'm really happy to see that the ownership here has stayed in place for the metro Cafe. The food before was outstanding and it remained so today. My wife and I just had breakfast here and look forward to coming back for lunch and dinner in the future. So there were just a few issues that I think caused the Petros iteration to go and I'm really hopeful that they get addressed now that it's metro Cafe. The number one issue is always been that this space is cold. It looks to be a big converted garage with high ceilings and a lot of glass. It makes for a cool aesthetic but it also makes for a very cold dining experience. Seems to me that now that this is it's driving for more of a diner feel, putting booths down the middle of the space and possibly by the glass wall could massively warm it up. This would perhaps also address some of the echo effects that come with the current decor...it can get a bit noisy. That really is the one big gripe I have but it legitimately does keep me and my team from work away. The other areas where the old restaurant struggles were in the speed of food delivery and the prices maybe being a little steep. With regards to both, it remains borderline food is good enough to overcome. read more

Our family was looking for a new brunch place to try for Mother's Day. We walked into Metro Cafe on Grand Ave in El Segundo and ordered 5 breakfast/brunch items to go. Absolutely delicious! We will definitely go back. My hubby and I loved our omelets with delicious breakfast potatoes and whole-wheat toast. Our daughters enjoyed the steelcut oatmeal, the California scramble with half a perfect avocado, the Culver omelet with bacon and carmelized onion. The coffee was strong and delicious, our daughters loved the lattes, and my husband enjoyed a cup of Earl Gray tea. All in all an excellent meal. Given the space of the restaurant, and large open-up windows, Metro Cafe will be a safe(r) place to return to post-Covid: plenty of fresh air and enough interior space to be socially distant. We plan to return from Manhattan Beach to enjoy dinner soon! Good luck to a great new addition to dining in El Segundo. (Nice owner too.) read more

the food is good, a little in the lukewarm side, but i didn't want to send it back because i was really hungry. the service is a little slow. it too a very long time to get our food. i noticed a few tables got their food before us, and they sat down to their table like 15 minutes after us. i also noticed another couple whom got their food almost immediately after being seated. i would probably order take out next time and use a different name, like Kelly or something caucasian so that i can be treated correctly. read more
