Full Order of Sweet Potato Fries
    Olivia P.

Staff was super friendly and I love that they have outdoor seating. The sweet potato fries were undercooked and the Petite Italian Egg dish was so bland. Do not get the petite Italian egg dish. There is no flavor, the eggs were overcooked, and the bread was burned and wasn't good. BUT the meal was salvaged with their metro special banana pancakes. These pancakes were perfectly fluffy and stuffed and topped with bananas and some caramel sauce. So good and is the reason I am eating this place so high.

Located right under a Travelodge. There is a parking structure next door but I'm not sure if you can park there unless you are staying at the hotel. We found some street parking but it's definitely challenging. They have a few spots outside and plenty of seating inside. We were greeted warmly and got sat at our table. First thing I noticed was that the prices were high. Maybe it's because it's LA or it's under a hotel, but I was still shocked. Pork sausage and bacon: 2.5/5: I asked the bacon to be crispy, but it still came out soft. The pork sausage was good. Glad it wasn't small given the price ($6). Strawberry pancakes: 3/5, I liked how there were strawberries on the inside. They were fluffy and soft but nothing stood out. Breakfast sandwich: 3/5, My boyfriend said it was okay. Majority of the sandwich was egg and it was overwhelming. Good amount of food tho. There's definitely better breakfast spots around. Happy I got to try it but I won't go back.

The service staff was very friendly. We went on a Sunday morning, it was busy and waited a little for our food. The food was great! We had a couple of the scramble plates and French toast. Although it was busy, we were able to hear each other and have a conversation.

Came Monday morning and got seated quick. Servers are really accommodating and quick! breakfast sandwich, 4/5: Huge portions and has all the fixins. There was also a plum inside the chunky avo/salsa? Overall good taste, but it's just wasn't crave worthy... the side potatoes were thinly sliced and pan fried, so delicious! Even the slices that weren't crsipy were so goooodd; this should be how all potatoes are cooked, much better than tots, fries, or wedges. All the dishes came with a side of cataloupe, which was so sweet and a nice touch.

One of the best breakfast spots on the west side. Get the banana pancakes! Service is always spot on. Tons of street parking.

    Italian Omelette

I honestly wasn't expecting much from Metro Cafe since it was right under our hotel and it wasn't on our itinerary but I am so glad to have gave them a try. Everything we ordered was delicious including the California Omelette, Italian Omelette, and French Toast. All the ingredients in both the omelettes tasted light and fresh. I usually prefer savory foods but the French Toast was surprisingly my favorite. The pieces of toast were thick and crispy and felt like such a treat with the butter and syrup. The space felt a little tight but the service was amazing. Our coffees and waters were consistently being filled to the point that I had to stop them to prevent waste. We even got a discount for staying at the hotel above. Highly recommended!

Found this place through a Google search for "breakfast". I got lucky that there was parking in front and it wasn't very busy. I was seated quickly but it went downhill from there. I waited to order, waited for coffee refill that I didn't get, and then had to go ask for my check. It's a nice, clean place. The prices are tourist prices but I have to say my food was DELICIOUS. I ordered an omelet and it came with potatoes that were brilliant, toast, and a piece of cantaloupe. I ate it all. I'll probably go back for the food when I'm in that area and maybe the service will be a little better.

I came here for a quiet breakfast my last day in LA and it was an enjoyable experience. I parked down the street (free street parking that day) and was one of the few customers in the morning so was seated quickly. I'm not a big breakfast fan but sometimes if I'm in the mood a hearty breakfast will warm me right up. I ordered their petite Italian toast, which was scrambled egg seasoned nicely on bread, along with a side of sausage and a matcha latte. Definitely more than I usually eat on a weekday morning but it was nice to enjoy my food in a serene corner that was great for people-watching. There are seats outside as well if you prefer to consume your food outdoors with a breeze. The matcha latte was just the right size, giving me a little boost without making me feel too wired. Prices were standard for cafes in this area. The only downside is that there wasn't any WiFi, making this cafe not an ideal place to do work. However, if you're here to have conversation over a good meal, you'll probably enjoy the food and atmosphere.

I went there for the buttermilk pancakes and it's was very delicious and filling. The servers were on top of their job and made sure I was well served. The place is next to a hotel so guest can just walk to it. Seating is indoor or outdoor. Pretty decent crowd, but not too crowded.

Stayed at Travelodge Culver City during my stay in LA and Metro Cafe was right below it. Usually hotel lobby food are not good, but to our surprise this place is amazing! Although, the ownership seems to be separate, the hotel offers a $10 voucher to the cafe. The cafe has outdoor and indoor seating, but we requested indoor as the outdoor was right on the sidewalk. The prices for the food was reasonable but the orange juice for $9 was quite steep for me and I did not get to try it. My sister and my boyfriend did order the coffee though and it was unlimited refills. Amongst 4 people, we shared two omelettes and a French toast since everyone was not a pancake person. The Italian and California omelettes were both equally as good and I would order both each time. The cheese and tomatoes in the Italian was so good! And so was the avocados and spinach in the California. The French toast did not disappoint as well. Very fluffy and went perfectly well with the homemade raspberry jam and syrup. Would definitely come back if I'm in town again! Also, Lupe was very attentive and provided excellent service throughout our meal!

For snacks, we shared: Thai Chicken Katsu - it was nicely breaded and not overly fried with a refreshing side salad Crispy Rice Salad - very flavorful with great textures with the crispy rice Cinco Chuchito - it was good Brussel sprouts - really heavy on seasonings I was not prepared for all the heavy flavors and it wasn't bad but it was a lot. The service was nice. We came here because all of the locations we wanted to try were really booked with long waits. I was surprised there was no wait or not many people here on such a busy night. Glad we got to try it and cross of the list. The décor here is also really interesting with an open kitchen and patio. Also, speaking of open kitchen, there's a 3% charge on the food that's call Kitchen Love. Not sure if that's the standard at restaurants in the area or if it's on the menu but that can definitely rack up with a full dinner with friends. As for parking, there's meters if you're lucky to snag a spot or there's plenty of parking structures in the area.

TL:DR - It is the best meal I've ever had and all the hype is true!…read more I didn't know anything about Verspertine when I arrived at the twisted iron rusted building that houses the restaurant. The outdoor seating area with it's concrete airport like seating and strange cubic water run off. I didn't even know it was a 2-star Michelin restaurant. But by the time I left, I understood why people pursue the fine dining experience. Located in Culver City, there is ample street parking leading up to the restaurant. When we went, we didn't even have to pay for the street parking. The building itself stands alone in a parking lot, towering over the smaller industrial buildings in the neighborhood. People clad in a black vest, with black undershirt, black pants, and black shoes, engage us in soft conversation when we approach. They offer us a seat in the adjacent garden where the concrete benches are draped with a soft wool blanket, and the seats themselves are internally warmed. I don't understand where I am. I was just sitting in LA traffic and it's cacophony of chaos and lethality, and now find myself warming my butt on a cream colored concrete bench while I stare up at this glass and iron building. This isn't a side of LA that I get to experience often. My partner and I are lead inside and take an elevator ride up to the 3rd floor. This is where all the cooking happens. Dozens of people silently shuffling around plating, cooking, and assembling dishes that I don't recognize. Food and ingredients that I can't identify. And it's silent. There's no screaming, banging of pots and pans, just chefs clad in all black, moving like smoke. We walk down to the 2nd floor and are seated. I could spend 10,000 words trying to describe the 13 dish course that we would eat, but it would ultimately be pointless. The food exists in a place where there is no comparison. For example, a black obsidian column about 6 inches tall and about 6 inches in diameter is served to us. It's an obsidian mirror of smoked mussels and green meyer lemon. Neither of those ingredients look like what I am staring at. We are given mussel shells to scoop up the black reflective pudding like texture before us. I take a bite of it and my mind can't make sense of the flavors that infuse my mouth. It's delicious, I crave it, I'm in disbelief. Each dish operates on this level of culinary creativity while also delivering on absolutely delicious flavor. There are flavors that I had, that I didn't know existed. It's the reason people pay the big bucks to experience these fine dining experiences. There are flavors and ingredients that I had never tried before, let alone even knew were out there. What other flavors have I been missing the whole time. For a second my mind flashes back to elementary school; my eyes stare at my box of 12 crayon colors then dart to the rich kids with a box of 196 colors. How many colors have I been missing this whole time? The first 8 courses are served on the 2nd floor, then we're lead to the 1st floor, where cream colored couches line the walls. The food is transitioning from savory to full on sweet. Douglas fir tea is served, and I feel myself being transported to the forests of the Sierra Nevadas. The desert courses are equally transformative and make me feel like they should offer a 13 course meal of just sweets. I know that I would go wild for that. We were celebrating my birthday tonight, and as a surprise they brought out a lit candle. It was fully edible and made of chocolate mousse and other unidentifiable pastry pieces, but was absolutely delicious. Just to reiterate, it was an edible candle. Insanity. After 3.5 hours of eating, we left with our bellies full and our senses exhausted. I began the meal with a wry skepticism of the pretentious presentation of the food, but left appreciating the experience I was gifted. The food doesn't look like food, it doesn't take like any food I ever had, and yet, it engaged me in a way that made me realize I didn't know food at all. It's one thing to cook food that is recognizable and make it delicious, it's another to transform it completely, while still making it the absolute most delicious thing you've ever eaten. I loved every moment of dinner and would highly recommend to eat at Vespertine as well. Post-Script: The wait staff was as lovely and impressive as the food. They were very knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and were even able to speak on how the food was sourced and cooked. Their demeanor was like that of a warm bath on a cool night; comforting. They made the experience equally as memorable as the food!

Not every dish works (some of the desserts were disappointing) but quite a lot works well, and the experience is so unique that even a fine dining veteran like me was impressed. Plating here is among the best in the country. And the restaurant aims to impress all of your senses. Hospitality is flawless, as you'd expect from a place striving for a third star. The building itself is incredible, as iconic as the bucolic TFL setting or the industrial-chic look of EMP. Highlights for me included a perfect scallop dish, some deep-sea prawns, a dark custard, and the quail (a unique twist on a pretty common fine dining dish). The add-ons weren't necessary - I do hate the upsell of add-ons at tasting menu places. The NA pairings matched perfectly with the dishes; it's an excellent option, and I suspect more fun than the wine pairings. Desserts were average for me, but I'm not a sweets person, and I don't like dairy. I wouldn't be surprised if this gets its long-desired third star some day. It's definitely a unique experience worth checking out.
