I haven't been to this location since it transitioned to Maxines from being Maxwells, a place I remember eating at last century when I lived in LA. The decor still has that same cute/cluttered feel, but now they have a nice outdoor patio. They don't have a parking lot, but it wasn't too hard to find street parking in the nearby area. I got the garbage omelette, always a classic. Getting the hash browns crispy was a standout move - probably my favorite hash browns I've had in a while! The garbage omelette was good, particularly with the Spanish sauce. I got it with both ham and avocado. The ham was kind of bland in there, but it was fine. My husband got the tofu scramble and was in love with the flavor, and wanting to figure out how to make it at home! Service was great. They got busier as time went on, but our waiter was still helping us out and grabbing what we needed. Everyone was friendly, staff and customers. Good food, good service, quaint vibe, reasonable prices. The last time I was here, it was Maxwell's (pre-pandemic). New owner, and a solid choice for a decent meal that is prepared pretty quickly. The interior is homey; a little kitschy, but sincere and inviting. I got the chiliquiles, adding carne asada. Huge plate comes with three eggs, black beans, fried tortillas, with a dollop each of sour cream and guacamole. The tomato-based salsa is well-seasoned and just spicy enough. The carne asada was cooked medium/medium rare and moist. Very satisfying. I was also happy that our server gave me the option on how I wanted my eggs. I felt scrambled was the call today, and was happy with my choice. Did not partake in coffee (shocker!) because I was already fully caffeinated. The ice-water was fresh and cold. The matcha is probably the worst matcha I've ever had lol. Watery green powder liquid. I shouldn't have gotten adventurous there and just gotten a normal coffee or latte. The steak and eggs were decent. Good with the tortilla they give. But didn't stand out to me. The menu items are a bit pricey here which is the norm for the area but still. The service was very attentive and great though. I'd probably give it another shot and I bet it'll be better next time. They should just remove the matcha from the menu though. read more

I'll start with a good part. The food was excellent. The Mediterranean scramble was full of feta cheese, spinach, and olives. The hashbrowns were crispy and the ranch dressing was very good. And not so great. My server was a young guy and he was not very friendly. They got my order wrong twice. The kids menu says $8.95 for a quesadilla but when the check came, it was $10.95.. They need to get their pricing correct. I didn't bother to have it corrected because service was so slow. It took forever to get someone's attention. Let me preface this by saying I had quite a few specific requests that perhaps annoyed the server (Dani, I believe, was her name). However, I don't think any of my requests were unreasonable. I called a little after 10:00 AM to ask if I could have the food ready at 10:45. Dani said she couldn't guarantee that time because the kitchen started working on orders ASAP and that because it was slow, I should call back. I said I just wanted the food to be warm because I was picking up for a big meeting with a local school district. She said I needed to call back closer to 10:45, so I called back at 10:24, and put in my order. She reassured me that "it was slow and that 10:45 shouldn't be a problem, honey" - a word she tacks on at the end of every other sentence. I also asked her where to park and she told me to just pull up in front of the restaurant and put my hazard lights on. I got to the restaurant at 10:45 and parked about two blocks away because there was nowhere to park in front of the restaurant even with hazard lights. When I went in to pick up the food, another support staff tried helping me, but Dani immediately told her that she would take care of me without acknowledging me or saying hello. I stood near the cash register to see if she would start helping me because she was ringing up another order, and she just proceeded to ignore me and go about her business. I went to use the restroom to give her more time because it seemed like she was busy, and when she came back, she continued to ignore me. She finally came to ring me up and asked if I was the big order. I told her I was and paid for the bill. She told another server to finish making the drinks for my order and I told her I was going to pull the car up in front of the restaurant because a spot had opened up and it was a large order i would have had to carry two blocks. By the time I moved my car, the spot was gone, so I parked across the street and put hazards on. I fully expected my drinks to be made so I could just grab and go, but when I walked in, there were still no drinks. I was nervous because I had just seen a cop cruise down the street I was parked on, so I asked her if she could bring the drinks out to me because I was parked illegally. She said she couldn't because she was slammed. I gently reminded her that she had told me 10:45 wouldn't be a problem, and she said, "sorry, people came in, honey." By this time, I was late for my meeting as it was 11:05 at this point. I ran back out to sit in my car in case the cop came back, and then ran back in after a few minutes to pick up my drinks. I was enraged to say the least, and not once did the server issue any semblance of an apology for the inconvenience. I get that she was "slammed" but when she reassured me TWICE over the phone that a 10:45 pickup wouldn't be an issue but then in person, she very publicly announced in front of all the other diners that "people came in" and she couldn't help me, that to me is just terrible customer service - and FYI, tacking the word "honey" on to the end of each of your sentences does NOT mask your horrible service and terrible attitude. read more

My Dad and I visited this place for breakfast this past Saturday morning. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated immediately. My family and I decided to try this place on Sunday 04/12/26 while stopping by in LA to our roadtrip to Arizona. Although the wait wasn't too bad, the service isn't that great. We had a server that was wearing a crewneck that said something like "waltz". She looked maybe 40s with brunette hair. She was very rude and the way she looked at us and served us just wasn't a great experience at all. She came off a little racist. We are Latino and it just made us very uncomfortable even my 13 year old son noticed right away. She looked at us with like hatred almost, before my son could ask for his drink she seemed to skip him and walked off. We were taken back because the other young lady with blondish hair was very friendly. Overall food is great honestly, very flavorful and everything well seasoned but we definitely didn't feel welcome and that was our only issue but big enough to never come back. Formally known as Maxwell's up until 2020 this location has been a popular breakfast spot for many decades. It can get quite busy during certain rushes, but we stopped in early this morning and did not have to wait at all to be seated. It's quite small on the inside, but they have table, counter, and outdoor seating options. Our waitress was really friendly and everything that we ordered came out very quickly. It is a bit expensive compared to some other breakfast options, but that is most likely due to its location. They have a lot of great options on the menu, but I went with my favorite breakfast dish, which is the Eggs Benedict. I chose the Bomb Benedict because you choose your own protein and I went with the Louisiana Hot Sausage and really enjoyed it. It was pretty spicy with strong flavors and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I just loved the combo overall. I also ordered a Biscuit on the side and thought it was one of the best Biscuits that I've had in a very long time. It was giant, fluffy, and everything that I hope for when ordering a Biscuit. Well as soon as the door was open she was carried back in time to her surfing days in Santa Cruz. The place has a skateboarding/surf vibe, mixed with car club.
