We came to this coffee shop after having dinner at the handroll shop next door. We felt like we needed a caffeine kick! This is the same parking lot as the shops for the marina. You can park on the left or right. You get two hours of free parking with validation! We stared at the menu for a bit before ordering. We finally decided to get their vanilla latte since it was advertised as the one that got them famous?? It was our first time here, so we were willing to try it. When ordering it, I tried to use the restroom.... Either someone was using it for a very long time, or I just couldn't figure out how to open it. I gave up! We received our drink within 5 minutes and headed back to our car. We drank it and thought it was very strong but no vanilla? We grabbed a fork from my glove compartment to give it a swirl. We drank it again and couldn't tell if there was vanilla in it. Long story short, we're not sure what made it famous because the taste was lacking. For coffee, it is definitely on the strong side, but the flavor profile was not there. It's also fairly overpriced compared to the delicious mom and pop shops we're used to. I had read about Alfred Coffee in a foodie magazine and when I drove by this location in Marina del Rey, I decided to stop and check it out. This small artisan coffee shop was bustling on a Sunday morning. The busy baristas were working hard through the long line and never ending list of both in-store and mobile orders, which gave the shop a lively and slightly chaotic vibe. It definitely feels like a grab-and-go spot more than a place to settle in, especially since seating and parking are very limited. You do get validated parking with a purchase. The location is right next to a marina. There's a nice outdoor area which makes it perfect for grabbing your coffee and taking a walk around while looking at the boats and water. It's a great way to enjoy your drink without needing a seat, which is good because there are very few inside. I was there in early January, which means the holiday menu was still being offered. The seasonal drinks were fun and creative. I decided to try the eggnog latte, which was espresso and cashew milk blended with eggnog style spices. It was weird to be sure, and much different than your typical coffee drink. I'm not usually a huge fan of super involved coffee concoctions, but I still enjoyed it and appreciated that Alfred does something a little playful with their menu. I would not order it again, however. The pastries looked amazing but I had just had brunch so I passed, but knowing they're made with real French butter definitely ups the appeal. I also loved the maritime-themed décor, which fits the Marina del Rey setting perfectly. There were little sailor sculptures, diving knick knacks, and a wall decorated entirely with yacht rock albums (nice)! This made the whole place feel very on-brand for the neighborhood. I decided to head to Alfred's on a Wednesday morning , I figured it would be a busy time so I did a mobile order . I was right on the busy as there was a line out the door and people waiting around for their orders. Mobile order said it would be ready in 15 minutes but actually took closer to 25 minutes so order ahead ! I took advantage of the Tesla chargers which was a plus! I ordered their famous vanilla iced coffee and their bagel with the fresh spread and the coffee was a 9/10 because I had to keep mixing the syrup in the bottom but the fresh bagel with the spread was 15/10! A very nice coffee place at the Marina. They were busy! Probably due to the recent rain and cold temperatures. Very hipster like, lovely decor. I like how the baristas make their customers coffee out in the open. You could pretty much see how it's done. I like how they carefully make the broth and pour the milk. I'm not sure if they're mentally measuring the content, or just eyeball it. LOL. But I'm happy to say their Latte is to the point. Not too strong, but just right. But yes, could've added an espresso shot in it for the extra jolt. Their menu is not too big. Of course, coffees, mochas, and lattes are on it. I had their famous and most popular Vanilla Latte. Their large os 16oz. I like it! The vanilla flavor and milk wasn't overwhelming to the coffee. But yes, I like strong coffee, and next time I'll add an extra shot of espresso. Everything was mixed perfectly. Also, I was curious about their Strawberry Matcha Latte. I asked the baristas about it. Of course they say it's delicious... but I wasn't sold on it from their non-verbal gestures. Lol. But next time I'll try that as well. They also have a display of delicious baked items. I thought it looks nicer than their counterparts (Starbucks). It looked very puffy and fresh. I wish I didn't eat beforehand, and would have tried it, too. There's always a next since I have work related stuff nearby. Overall, a very friendly staff, a cute little place. And most importantly the coffee is good. The wait was a bit longer than expected. Great coffee shop right along the water so you get great views and plenty of outdoor seating. I thought it would be a simple coffee shop but they have elevated drinks and matcha and breakfast items that take it to the next level. The breakfast they offer is from wake and late. The vibe and location of this place is top tier, but the coffee and matcha fell flat for me. The ratio of milk vs coffee/matcha was way off. It tasted like I was drinking a cup of milk. Finally got to try the famous vanilla latte! I got the vanilla sugar free with almond milk and it definitely lived up to the hype! I will give it 5/5 for the drinks! We also got the drink with espresso and Vanilla cold foam on top. Loved it! My husband was literally licking the foam from the cup at the end. We came on a Saturday morning and the line was really long. We tried to order on their website but it asked a lot of questions and wasn't very user friendly. Took us a while to order ahead on their online website and same with those around us who were trying to do the same. I don't usually write negative reviews but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth, especially on my birthday. I was in the area celebrating after grabbing my birthday treats at Sugarfish, Sephora, and even Crumbl and a quick Google search led me to believe Alfred offered a free birthday drink with ID (not sure why the app asks for your birthday if this isn't a thing...) The barista at the register was genuinely kind, she checked my ID, and rang me up for what I understood to be a free birthday drink. When she asked the manager for a code, the manager said, "oh free drink coupon?" I clarified, "no, it's my birthday," and she rudely responded, "we don't do that." No apology, no courtesy, no acknowledgment that it was my birthday or that there was confusion. Only blunt, rude, and dismissive. The lack of basic customer service was honestly shocking and embarrassing, especially given how avoidable the situation was. I showed her the Instagram page I got it from, which apparently "wasn't them" but rather Alfred Kuwait (oops). A simple sorry about the confusion would have gone a long, long way. This was easily the worst customer service experience I've had in quite a while and unfortunately it'll be a long time before I give Alfred another chance. read more

I was aimlessly wondering around Marina Del Rey, CA after getting lost trying to find my way to Culver City. Yes, I have GPS, but decided to go rogue! I happened upon the Alfred store. This is the second one I have tried. And it is easy to say they are consistent across their customer service metrics so far. This is a really nice facility with a nautical theme. Very cute with lots of seating outside. Limited counter seating inside. The store was exceptionally clean - always good sign! And the baristas were fast, efficient, kind, and helpful. Arrived bright and early for the snail mucin COSRX collab with Alfred. (Purchase a coffee and get two full size skin care products) Once I got in I planned on ordering the chai, but thankfully the staff provided info how the chai isn't sweet and is more spicy so I ordered the vanilla chai with a vanilla cloud foam. Staff were not really welcoming as they appeared a bit annoyed with first timers and questions demonstrated by eye rolls and sighs, but the space was nice. The coffee was a bit watered down and there wasn't a significant vanilla taste if any at all. Unfortunately their foam is pre made so you can't customize your cold foam, because I was really interested in seeing what a maple cold foam would taste like. I'll probably order something else next time. Fortunately there's lots of space to park, they validate parking for 2 free hours, and there is plenty of seating and a great view. Confession. I am a Dunkin loving Masshole. But, I do frequently support local coffee shops. I was in Marina Del Rey and heard about Alfred from TikTok. I purchased the "World Famous Vanilla Latte" with almond milk. First sip: A little sweet but I can definitely taste the espresso. The sweet from the vanilla subsided and the espresso flavor came through and I sucked that drink down in no time. Tastes like a high quality latte. The staff were friendly and I literally received my drink 5 seconds after purchase even though 3 people were in front of me. (They got their drinks fast as well) Cute shop. They have pastries and various bottled drinks available to purchase as well. It was later in the day (after 2pm), so not too many pastries were left. Alfred Marina del Rey is undeniably gorgeous. The location alone makes it a great spot to meet a friend or sit for a bit, and the space has that polished, coastal vibe Alfred is known for. I've been on the lookout for mushroom coffee lately because of its health benefits, so when I saw "Matchaanga" on the menu, I had to give it a try. I ordered it with oat milk, and it turned out smooth, creamy, and delicious. The matcha flavor was more prominent than the mushroom, but I didn't mind at all. We noticed the menu featured burritos and bagels from Wake and Late, which we've enjoyed before at their Pasadena location--so of course, we had to order something. I chose an everything bagel with plant-based cashew cream cheese, and my husband got the Uncle Alfred bagel sandwich with turkey, mozzarella, red onion, arugula, and pesto. Everything was made fresh to order, and we were able to enjoy it outside with a relaxing marina view. Can't ask for much more! The color was beautiful but was unfortunately too watered down. I asked for oat milk and was hoping for a creamy matcha but this one tasted like a matcha americano. There's not a lot of ambience right around the coffee shop, but the marina is right there next to some steps you can sit on. I thought the prices were ridiculous, but I went ahead and ordered my large hot latte which came lukewarm and I made the guy make another one for me which was only a little bit hotter....and the everything bagel had the skimpiest spread schmer I have ever seen on a bagel, seriously hardly visible! This location of Alfred offered validations as of the writing of this review. Featuring a variety of high-end coffee drinks, you'll find things like a Lavender Latte on their menu. They also offered a range of sizes of drinks. In case you're looking for low sugar options, they do have sugar free vanilla syrup and artificial sweetener packets available. For some, the price range may seem high because, honestly, it is high compared to other chains. My large oatmilk sugar-free vanilla latte was $9. A similar drink at Starbucks would be about $6.50. But the upside is that it was completely yummy and very smooth so you do get what you pay for here. read more

I've lived in LA my whole life and finally tried Alfred's! This place is very aesthetic and right next to the water. Parking is fairly easy and you can get parking validated for 2 hrs. I ordered the Cloud Cream since I was told it's very sweet and my friend ordered the Vanilla Latte since she didn't want a sweet drink; however, I found the Vanilla Latte to be sweeter and my drink to be pretty bitter. I have a soft spot for it because it opened about a year before I moved to LA, and even though I didn't visit it often, I remember the antler logo fondly and creative lattes that made me feel LA chic! Stopping by on a Friday morning may have had something to do with it, but it was a classic West LA vibe nonetheless. I was quite hungry after my flight so I ordered a savor pastry (cheese + leek) and for my drink I got a hot matchaga ("a matcha + functional mushroom delight. Our exclusive single-origin Alfred Matcha blended with chaga, reishi, and lion's mane mushrooms, vanilla, monk fruit, and a dash of strawberry, topped with steamed milk."). While the drink sounded like a luxurious blend, it honestly tasted like an unsweetened matcha latte - lol! The pastry was fun to consume however! The top of the pastry had a buttery flaky horizontal line pattern that broke off with each bite. It made for messy eating, but it certainly felt more luxurious than my drink!
