My wife and I were parking behind this restaurant to pick up some groceries from Vallarta, when we got out of the car a heavenly aroma immediately came upon us. We thought it was the market, after we did our shopping we went to investigate where the scents were coming from. Great little restaurant with some of the best tacos I've had, Good prices and friendly service! I can't believe I never noticed before. Plenty of Parking in rear lot. Amazing authentic Mexican food. It's really hard to find good Mexican food in the Northridge area but this gem is thee spot. They specialize in Chilango food or Mexico City food. This is food that you might not have had before unless you're Mexican and around Mexico City. So it's a great spot if you wanna try something new. My husband got the gorditas. Comes with chicharrón, cheese and cream. Mind you, they are made to order from fresh masa and then deep fried so they do take about 15-20 min to make. For this reason I highly recommend you place the order on the phone so it's ready when you pick up. They were soooo good. I don't typically like chicharrón it's too fatty for me but this was perfect! The salsa verde pairs well with it because it cuts through everything so well. I had the pambaso. It's basically like a torta with granillos sauce that's pressed against the pan. The inside has chorizo and potato and comes with lettuce and cream. It's one of my fav for the holidays. It was so good. This place got packed with regulars so def be patient. The prices are also pretty good for the amount of food you get. Parking is hard to come by so Again I suggest ordering for pickup so you can just pop in and out without having to find parking. Food is delicious and they carry items that other Mexican restaurants don't. My go to meal is a huarache with beef, but I recently tried the gorditas and they were amazing. This place is definitely authentic, the hand made tortillas, the cheese, the salsas and aguas frescas. Parking isn't great due to its location. As soon as I saw this restaurant I knew I had to try it. I don't see a lot of Mexico City style food joints. I was raised in Mexico City so I know authentic food. I read that Metro Balderas is one of few places in Los Angeles that have really great carnitas. It's a small chain, with the more popular location is in Highland Park. There's also a location nearby in Panorama City. The style of food here is inspired by Mexico City (estillo DF). On the weekends only, you can taste their famous carnitas. I asked for recommendations since they didn't have carnitas and told me to get the huarache surtido. Surtido means assorted so it's a mixed bag of pieces of pork. You've got the ears, snout, skin, and some other parts I probably don't want to know about. I am game to try anything. The huarache tortilla is freshly made and stuffed with black beans. then topped with the assorted pork meat. There's salsa verde on it and cheese. It was so much meat that I took some it home for dinner. Extremely moist and a flavor bomb of a dish. It seems that not many people know about this place and is one of those yet to be discovered gems for Mexican food in the Valley. There are so many place more for me to discover and uncover still in San Fernando and Pacoima. The pineapple agua fresca was watered down. I'd like to try the watermelon agua fresca next. Yes, I love pambazos, huaraches, quesadillas, and their TORTA BALDERAS. *BEWARE* if you do not like fried food, stay away from the quesadillas as they are fried first. My favorite dish here is the bistec huarache. It is most excellent with lots of onions, black beans, salsa verde, and of course bistec.
