Chicken tamale preparado

hit the spot for sure! 10/10 the matcha from next store was also amazing 2 in 1 hidden gems

My receipts

Went to buy tamales about 2weeks ago. For starters I ordered a dozen I get charged for 15. The gentleman who took my order starts a refund. Tell me it will go back to my card (paid with debit). I waited a couple of days since it was a Saturday. Gave it a couple of days for my bank to process. Go back to Talk to Juan the manager. Gave me this long run around how the guy did a cash refund not a debit. Makes some calls has me waiting around for an hour. Finally gave me a copy that the refund will be hitting my account in 1-3business days. It hit my account Monday 6/4. Wake up today they pulled my refund Wednesday 6/6. You might say whatever it's $15.00 the point is it's my money. I was going to let this go but I've called them multiple times today. Feels like Mr.juan is trying to hide or not deal with this. So here I am leaving this review. Now for the tamales The chicken with green salsa were so undercooked the masa was grainy AF! The beef were so skimpy it was more masa than beef. F#€K this place! Want Really good tamales like your Tia's or Abuela make on Christmas drive to Pacoima, Van Nuys and Laurel Canyon. That little hut of a shop is the best in valley.

Top: Tamal de Puerco con Salsa de Chile Colorado/"California sauce". Tamal de Pollo con Salsa Verde
Gary I.

Tamales House is in a stripmall, basic fast food format where you order at the counter, pick up, eat at tables, or take out. Obviously, emphasis is on Tamales of all kinds: meat, vegetarian, but there is an errant Chile Relleno, Costillas de Puerco en Salsa Verde, limited street tacos, etc. 1) Tamal de Pollo con Salsa de Chile Verde is stuffed with breast meat chicken in green sauce. Breast meat is moist & soft without much Umami as usually expected. Chile Verde Sauce is subtle yet still retains a fermented, green Chile, Tomatillo flavours. However, there is a blandness that may need a bit of chopped Jalapeño or Serrano to give it a slight piquant kick to excite the taste buds. However, on the positive side, the Masa has a good infusion of Salsa de Chile Verde The Chile Verde Sauce on the side had a good vinegar acidity, garlicky, piquant green Chile flavour which did awaken the Tamal de Pollo con Chile Verde. 2) Tamal de Puerco con Salsa de Chile Colorado or "California Sauce" according to Tamales House. Generous amount of stringy, meaty pork in a very pronounced red Chile sauce which reminds me of flavours in "Chile con Carne" and has a kick with complex flavours that are sweet-salty, touch smoky, acidic, herbal, earthy on the palate. The Pork is the better of the two Tamales. The Salsa Roja has a cloudy, creamy look and vinegar acidity. Good Chile piquancy that has a lingering warmth and heats up the lip & palate. Canned tomato Umami, garlic, slight smokiness which enriches the relatively mild tasting Masa. The Masa at Tamales House is kind of like eating a firmer version of cream of wheat. Baby food soft as one chews, kind of mushy. Like to have a more rough ground Masa that has a substantial mouth feel instead of almost baby food pablum. Not bad Tamales, but missing that "Je ne sais quois quality". 3+ stars

I tried these tamales and they are really solid! I had a pork, beef and strawberries and cream. Surprisingly I really liked the beef and was super into the strawberry tamale even though I'm not big on sweet tamales. The masa itself is tasty and is not dry. I wouldn't say these were the best I've ever had, but definitely a place I would take my coworkers and family for some good food. I recommend trying them out especially considering how big they are! If I had one I would be satisfied because they are bigggg

This is the Receda restaurant. They have another location as well.

We drove an 1 1/2hrs to try this place. I'll have to say it was worth the drive. I got the breakfast special. My tamale was so flavorful. Good sauce. Not dry at all. Perfect. There's lot of other menu items I will try next time. It's small but clean. There is handicap seating which we appreciated for our son. The service was excellent. They were pleasant and fast. We took home sweet tamales. The pineapple ones are delicious. I don't usually care for the sweet ones. I'd definitely have theirs again though. Give them a try!

Wanna be Mexican Tamales
Efrain O.

The Rajas tamale I got was supposed to be with cheese and rajas but instead I got just a hard brick tamale with a few dices of wanna be rajas and no Cheese at all; Rajas tamale is supposed to be made with Poblano Chile and Cheese also is supposed to be Fluffed, BUT the tamales from this place don't even represents the Mexican Culture food. I wouldn't even give this food to a homeless people cause they might get sick....Tables were dirty so I ordered my food to go.

This is my order

I ordered a Cafe de Olla and was charged $4.25, but the menu board clearly lists 16oz for $3.12 and 20oz for $3.63. When I asked about the price difference, I was told they had "just changed the price today." If that's the case, the menu board should be updated before charging customers more. I actually really liked the coffee and the tamales and was planning on stopping by every day, but after the way this was handled especially when the manager walked away when I politely asked for her name, I won't be returning. Very disappointing customer service.

Pumpkin Spice Tamale

The food here was delicious! I ordered the chile relleno plate and everything had great flavor. My dad got the pork en salsa verde & his was good too! Every year they have their pumpkin spice tamale for October and I made sure to get one, it did not disappoint and was delicious! Lots of flavor and really soft, felt fresh. The customer service is good, they aren't the quickest with getting orders out, but its not too bad either. Worth the wait if the food is good. The place has some indoor seating, but only like 5 or 6 tables and luckily we went at a time that wasn't too packed.

Flautas. Quemadas
Emilia M.

I had highly expectations base on videos I saw on instagram I had four order 2 got out first , they forgot the other two , and the flautas they did on a hurry because they were burn and they were not good . My torta de tamal was not a toasted bread like in the videos only beans and cream no cheese and it was a disappointment some of the tamales were good but the rest of the food was very mediocre and the costumer service was like wherever actitud .

Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and listed out some of the menu favorites. We were checked on and given water regularly, which was great! Second, I love the vibe in here. It's a bigger space than I expected. Within the restaurant there is a main dining area, a side room, and outdoor seating. There's also a little space for selling pastries/desserts that I found quite cute. As the name suggests, there is a humble vibe. The parking situation is a bit limited. There are not many spaces out front, which is something to be aware of if you're thinking of stopping by. Lastly, the food was really delicious. I ordered the Panwich and tried a little bit of my friends omelette. The omelette was really good and cooked to my liking. The panwich was also really good! I'm a sucker for the savory + sweet combo. The combo of sausage, pancake, syrup, marscapone cheese, and apples was elite. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and will be coming again more!

On that visit, I met Joyce the owner, and she happily served me my meal that day, and I had an exceptional experience. I left Joyce's coffee shop a very satisfied five star review later that day. The last time I came, Joyce was not present again (she works weekends). Today I tried to visit Joyce again, but forgot she works weekends--but today I met Ms. Faith. Faith's customer service was above and beyond. The warmth. The friendliness. The pride in her work and her role in the Joyce's Coffee Shop family. The joy. The most charming smile and energy. The enthusiasm. The work ethic. I wanted Faith to join me for my meal, but she never stopped working, and she had no break planned. Faith is actually a former bartender for many years. She made millions of dollars in tips over the years, because all the drunks would fall in love and hand their wallets over to Faith. She was great at what she did. Patrons would go to her bar, sit down, and blackout just because they were there to chat with Faith for as long as possible. Of course they couldn't just sit there--so they'd just order drink after drink. And drink. And tip. And then ATM. And then more drinks with Faith. Tips tips tips. Faith made millions as a bartender. That's how she bought her Bentley coupe. As a bartender, she even got a 3 wedding proposals, and 4 "modeling" offers . And Faith LEFT the money and the fame--once she discovered Joyce's Coffee Shop. Faith knew she wanted to be in that warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere--as often as possible. Faith applied for work at Joyce's, followed-up daily with Joyce's for 2 weeks, and ultimately earned herself a spot on Team JCS. The food was 5-stars--as always. It's as goods as eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and hot coffee get. The environment was another 5-stars--always clean, always welcoming and always playing carefully curated playlists of yesterday's biggest hits. Joyce's Coffee Shop has been in business since 1955, and they've done such a great job of not only preserving the original dining room setup and upholstery, but also the original owner's commitment and dedication to great food in a welcoming environment--produced and served by the best customer service. And sitting in Joyce's Coffee Shop is like sitting in a blast from the past. It's classic. It's retro. It's vintage. It's well-preserved. Joyce's Coffee Shop is part of San Fernando Valley history. It's kinda like a Valley historical landmark. It's definitely a San Fernando Valley treasure. It's on its 4th owner, and it was never sold to a new owner that wasn't fully committed to the original owner's original mission. I LOVE THAT. All staff is warm, friendly and welcoming. Even the customers are warm, friendly and welcoming--they all seem to know exactly where they are, and thats why they are there. Have you ever watched "Cheers"? That show about a bar where everybody knows your name? It's got that local feel. The best feel. You'll never get that at Denny's, IHOP or Norms. I live in Woodland Hills so I'm rarely in Northridge, but if I am around in the AM or lunchtime -- I hope to visit again. Food -- 5 stars (I'm still stuffed) Environment -- 5 Stars (clean & cool) Service -- ‍‍‍‍‍ 5 stars -- (only because I can't give 6)

Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. For this visit, I started off with a cup of the Chili and thought it was actually really good. I am a huge fan of chili and don't often get some that I really love, but this was definitely one of those. Next came the Mini Blintzes and these were pretty nice. I prefer a full Blintz because it has a lot more cheese and filling, but still these were a nice start, especially if are were new to this appetizer. For my entrée, I chose the Pastrami Reuben and thought it was great. It was honestly huge and I even forgot to take a picture of it because I was excited to eat it. It is a pretty non-descript strip shopping center. It can best be described as an old-school diner/deli, full service, and pretty much always bustling. I was surprised that it was almost to capacity by 11:30am, even before the lunch rush. You take a look at the menu, and note that the prices appear to be about 5 dollars higher than places similar in nature; however, you will also soon realize that the portion size and value for that dollar goes a long way, and you will quickly notice that the price paid is really good for what you get. I ordered the Monte Cristo which was deliciously fried egg bread with turkey, ham and a side of jam. It came with potato or macaroni salad; however, I upgraded to fries which were awesome. The service was nice; however, definitely a little rushed. However, that may come with the type of establishment. Either way, the food came out fast -- the food was delicious and I would certainly return again in the future.
