Shredded beef vs what I ordered asada
    My4kids M.

I ordered chilaquiles without meat and they made it so complicated as tho I ordered something from outter space so I changed it to asada nachos and got shredded beef nachos. Not to mention the cashier is so mean to the young server. The young girl server was so friendly and helpful but I won't come back here.

It's supposed to be a Red Chile Beef and bean, but I received a Red Chile Pork with rice only.

I stopped by and purchased a Red Chile Colorado Beef and bean burrito only. I received a Red Chile Pork with rice only. When I called to complain about the error they did, I was asked to go back and return the burrito. I was told that they are only taking me as a courtesy. In addition, I was told that all burritos come with rice and beans. I mentioned that I understand that and that I made it clear what I wanted. To finish things, I was told that they don't do their burritos like the customer wants. They do them as they are per order. I then asked for a refund and was told that they had already closed all the transactions. Violet told me that I would have to return tomorrow and see if the manager would even give me a refund. She still had the nerve to tell me she provides excellent customer service. Grrr.... BEWARE OF COMING HERE.

    Chicken & Shrimp Tacos

Carillos will always hold a special place in my heart as it is super nostalgic for me. I've been coming here for at least 20 years. Their menu has changed over the years and they have added so many items. They have family pack specials as well if you want to use them for a party. My go to item is their hard shell chicken tacos. They hit the spot every single times. They also have a great shrimp cocktail for $16.95 and it's huge!! I don't come here as often as I should due to now working from home but it's my favorite lunch spot.

Order a plate of garlic shrimp and this is what was served. Might as well have ordered a whole garlic clove instead of the shrimp. Shrimp was over cooked and had a rubbery texture.

Absolutely delicious. Authentic Mexican food with so much love in every bite. This is the BEST POZOLE I've had in the valley. Hand made tortillas. Yes there is a wait time but it's well worth it.

Definitely old style Mexican food. Almost everything is good on the menu. I highly recommend it for a no-frills location.

The pozole here is my favorite. Their tamales and home made salsas are also the greatest. Definitely a valley staple.

Let me just say, perfect, excellent, tasty, yum, etc. great sandwich, packed full of flavor, bread and pork are perfect, really, really love banh mi sandwiches anyway, but this one is true to the classic. All sandwiches are also $10, so go crazy and try a couple different ones, to me nothing beats the grilled pork though. You can enter from the street, but will have to find metered parking, so just drive around back, they have a small free lot and you can enter from the rear. There are not any seats to eat there, so everything is to go, but service is quick and the guy was nice behind the counter. Go check them out, grab a lotto ticket if your into that, get some great food, support a local woman & minority owned business, not enough of them out there. Enjoy!

They must have recently completed an interior/exterior renovation finally, it's about time! One of the reasons why I was ordering is cause I couldn't stand being inside. My experience yesterday dining-in was a better environment. However, the place was practically empty. I'm pretty sure I know the reason why. It cost me $69 for a half sandwich soup combo, and half a pastrami sandwich with a side of chopped liver, and a hot tea. The tea plate was very thoughtfully appointed: hot water container, cup, honey, lemon, and a good quality teabag, served on a stone plate. My half pastrami sandwich was quite divine, the Ryebread was very fresh, but there was a little bit too much fat on the pastrami. The coleslaw was a little bit on the older side. And the chopped liver matched the expression on the waitresses face, it also was served without any bagel chips, crackers, or rye bread, nor was I asked if I wanted any of those items as typically you spread chopped liver on something! Their napkins are literally like using rough bad paper towels. I believe their utensils are oversized. My guest was extremely doted on, the waitress said that she was making it a half sandwich and soup combo, but I don't think that's what I was charged. How can two half pastrami sandwiches, a bowl of lentil soup, and a small scoop of chopped liver with a cup of tea come to $69??? My experience coming here in all my years is that the place was extremely packed- any time I came. Even my next-door neighbor who lived on the block for over 50 years would come here weekly. They used to have almost the best matzoh ball soup on the planet, not so much anymore they've changed the formula. The matzoh balls used to have flavor and be soft. I make a mean matzoh ball soup, and when I'm not feeling well, I used to buy it from here to nurse me back-to-health- Nature's remedy. But not so much anymore. their chicken soup had become the price of liquid gold. The UGLY: this is an older Edited Review unposted from 4 yrs ago: This review is specifically for the so-called manager that refused service to me (who knows maybe he's not there anymore?) this morning after I had already paid for the order. When I told him I would be leaving a bad review he said he would be removing it!! I've been a Customer at this restaurant for over (28 years). I placed an order through the UberEAT app to be picked up at the store for my lunch today. Despite having a receipt that the items were paid for there was no order for me to pick up at the restaurant. When I asked to place another order as I was running late for work, I needed my lunch, the manager was going to charge me more money than I had paid on the app!!! And then finally told me that he's not placing the order for me that I can do it through the app!! He also refused to give me his name. Hopefully that person doesn't work there anymore. If so, buyer beware, stick to ordering directly with the restaurant to save yourself a nightmare!!!! this guy, if he's still there, sent a 32 year old customer away from the store without any lunch and made her late for work!!!!!!!!

It had been a while since I visited my places in Reseda and I wanted to see if they're still as good as before. Sandwich Express did not disappoint! Back in the 80's I lived in Northridge and had a Vietnamese co-worker who was a friend and fellow foodie. He introduced me to banh mi and Sandwich Express, and I'm so glad he did! Starting with their amazing banh (baguette rolls), they're baked fresh daily. They're crisp on the outside and perfectly soft in their interior. Not too dense or thick - just the right crisp and airy bread to filling ratio that you want in a banh mi! You can also buy baguettes to take home. Back in the day they were 3 for $1! Yup, apparently I'm that old... today they're a couple of bucks, but still worth it. Sorry I failed to take pics of my sandwich when it was freshly made, I was just so excited to go back in time to this little corner of Reseda that looks like it hasn't changed! The photo shown is the next day.. and that's only HaLF of the sandwich! The lady at the counter was so sweet! Don't assume rudeness for challenges with communication. I was nice and she was kind in return. There's a language barrier and at first she was shy, but once we worked through the English-Vietnamese translations with the help of Google, I was able to ask her if they sell Kho Ga La Chanh (Chicken Jerky) - and she ran excitedly to the back and produced a sealed bag of their homemade jerky! Not the same flavor profile as the stuff I buy in San Gabriel Valley, but it's a start! I'll bring them a sample the next time I get a batch to see if they can mimic the sweet spice. Theirs is a little more "five spice" forward. I placed my order for a #1 "Dac Biet" sandwich, "extra pâté, extra veggies". That's my default sammie by which I judge all Bánh Mi and I'm here to say that even a day later, right out of my fridge it's still THE best Banh Mi in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys! Bright, fresh, generously filled.. and the magic bread. I happen to know that a local chain of popular phô restaurants buys their bahn (rolls) daily from Sandwich Express to make their own sandwiches and to serve with their Bho Ko (stew)! If you're wondering for reference where my bar is set, my go-to banh mi spots in San Gabriel Valley are Bánh Mi Hue Thai and Banh Mi Hoa Phat. ~IYKYK~ What has changed at Sandwich Express? It's not just sandwiches anymore AND they have a few tables inside where you can sit down to eat! They don't have my beloved Soda Xí Muội (salted plum soda) or the lime version either. Just canned and bottled American sodas, but that's not a deal breaker. Check out the posted menu pics. Bún Bò Huě, Bò Kho.. the owner did suggest calling first to make sure these items are available on the day you want to come, but she boasts that it's very authentic! They even have broken rice dishes with grilled pork chop (Cóm Tãm Súòn)! I read in another review that the original owners sold. I don't know if this is accurate or when it happened.. but I didn't see the older people that were often in the kitchen so it's possible! Back to the changes - they have desserts now, too! They also cater! What?!? No longer cash only, they accept Visa/Mastercard. I'm so glad we stopped! They still hold the #1 spot in the area. Convince me otherwise!

I called and tried to order off the menu I found on Yelp. Apparently I tried to order something they don't have anymore (beef stew) and she started yelling at me and hung up on me. I still wanted the bahn mi's, giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming we got disconnected. Nope, she hung up on me again . By then, I was only a few minutes from the restaurant so I walked in. She realized that I was the one that called, she gave the stink eye walked away. The older gentleman stepped in, and helped me. Mind you, I was patient and polite with her the entire time. Not sure if she's the owner or an employee, but she seems either ultra sensitive or just hates people in general. I understand sometimes there is a communication barrier and cultural differences, but this woman is straight up rude. She needs to retire. If she's the owner she needs to hire someone that doesn't hate people to replace her.
