The person taking my order was nice but they forgot my drink, else was Mid/Meh. * there's no prices listed anywhere, no menus, not on the board I have never seen that in my life. * you will be waiting for your food. I asked for chips and salsa. They come in a bag with maybe 10 to 15 near burnt chips who knows when they were made, and the salsa was laughable about a quarter inch of the cup filled. * the salsas are hidden behind the ordering desk with sauces that must have three squirts in each container, never seen that again at a Mexican place. * the condiment station has no cups, you have to put it in a plastic bag even when eating in. * I had a burrito and it was mostly rice, unevenly proportioned and no flavor. * overall I was unimpressed with the cheap out on certain things with the prices they charge. I personally would never go back again, but the soup looked good at another table,perhaps it's worth a try. read more

As much as I love Taco Reyes, I can't love them anymore. Before their "remodeling". Their carne asada nachos was $13. Went the other day, the nachos are now $20. They are still very tasty, but it's taking a big bite out of my pocketbook. I know everything is expensive now and I am taking it into consideration. Went to Tacos Reyes last night and it's such a good casual spot. It was nice to see that it was busy. Honestly surprised reading the reviews after our visit as our experience was wildly different. The chips were really fresh and good, and at so many places they even charge for chips, but here they are free and were refilled. The timing was fine, if I was in a hurry or didn't have the patience to sit down and eat and wait I would have ordered pick up. I got the asada taco combo, and prices were on the menu. The beans were also one of my faves. Not having plastic cups and only bags for the carrots andis clearly a cultural thing some people just won't understand. They also have a really good selection of desserts and the rice pudding and cheesecake were really good. Anyway, glad this spot is nearby. read more

I don't come often, but I've never been disappointed with the food. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They always explain the dishes and have recommendations. My hubby ordered the Menudo and the portion was huge! Enough for two. It was tasty and flavored. I always order the 3 taco plate and an extra order of rice, refried beans and chips to take home. My hubby got the enchilada plate and it was flavorful. They have a variety of selections to choose from. Dining inside is intimate because it's not a large restaurant. Since my last review, Taco Reyes had to shut down because someone had crashed into their front window and rendered the place temporarily destroyed. They immediately rebuilt in the same location, but it was only now that we were able to return. I see many differing reviews, mostly 3-4 stars, but I have to say, we LOVE this place. I don't know if their having to rebuild had anything to do with improving what was already great food, but this visit, the food was better than ever. We usually find their rice and beans to be a bit bland, but we never cared because we were too busy filling up on the tacos, chips, salsa and guac... but THIS time... I completely polished off the rice and beans. They really added a lot of flavor to both items. The rice was really flavorful, and the beans really had a nice punch of flavor, too... more than in the past. As for the shrimp tacos, I always get the same delicious, stuffed with loads of shrimp tacos served on freshly made corn tortillas. I avoid their hot sauce cuz it's way too hot, and I nix the cilantro cuz I just don't like it. I still get the chopped onions but ask that they only give me a small amount (they usually put on as much onion as there is shrimp, and that's just too much for me. I do, however, add lots of guac and the milder salsa (the chips salsa), and my tacos are then perfection. The 3 tacos, coupled with the rice and beans, we loved every bite of food we had. I'm so glad that freak accident of someone crashing through their window didn't ruin their business forever. It was a pleasure finding them back in business, better than ever. It's unfortunate how expensive this place has become. The food is good--I'm not going to say otherwise--but the pricing is what keeps me from wanting to come back regularly. However, the portions seem much smaller than they used to be. It feels like everything is getting more expensive while portions continue to shrink. I know that's becoming common these days, but it's still disappointing as a customer. I also have to agree with other reviews regarding the phone service. Calling in and being placed on hold only to be forgotten about is frustrating. That's not only poor customer service, but it's also lost business. Taco Reyes is for sure deserving of each one of these stars. At the end of a strip mall, bookended by a gas station and a bar, this place shines as bright as the food it serves. You want tacos? They have tacos... chorizo, cabeza, pollo, pastor, asada, pescado, camaron, carnitas, and chicharron... there's even a combo where you can pick any 3 served with rice and beans. Tacos include onion, cilantro, and salsa and the balance is exquisite... these are the best tacos in the area, and that is really saying something. Even though this is Tacos Reyes, they don't shy away from other great Mexican food... they have burritos, nachos, quesabirria tacos, gorditas, huarache, quesadillas, pambaso, sopes, mulitas... it's really amazing how much they have on the menu for such a small place! And everything I've tried here has been wonderful... and I have yet to try it but my buds all swear by their birria! To drink they have Mexican soft drinks, horchata, and jamaica. And if you're looking for an adult beverage, they deliver to the bar next door, so put in your order at Taco Reyes, ask them to deliver it next door, and pull up a barstool and order a cerveza! The carne asada burrito I ordered, while filling, came with a side of mild allergic reaction for me as I now have minor little rash bumps on my forehead that weren't present prior to eating it. I also found the food too salty for my liking. Maybe I ordered the wrong item for me, and will have to try a different thing next time. Some of the positives here are the lady working the register threw in an extra bag of chips with my order (so kind), and that there's ample parking in the back, on the Topanga side near Baskin-Robbin's. honestly this place has great food and but terrible customer service. tell me how ordering 12 tacos = 1 small bag of chips that at most has 15 tortilla chips. They state it's their policy but if I ordered each item separately I would then have 4 bags of chips that makes absolutely no sense. But if you eat in person you can also have more chips? The tea (lol): disgruntled former employee smashed their car into the shop's glass store front. Currently, the restaurant's store front is under construction. Although, the restaurant is still open (see my pic) serving up the best Mexican food in the San Fernando Valley from their back parking lot (enter parking lot from Topanga Cyn). Everything is amazing here. Love the Queso Birra tacos, chicken and carne asada tacos, carnitas gordita are some of my favorites. Service is always good, direct and efficient. What happened to the customer gets what they paid for and or asked to be made a certain way. They used to have a guy Sebastian that worked there and when he was there everything was great.
