Sarah Statham, you are an answer to a hair prayer. I found Method on Yelp after being unable to secure an appointment in my hometown of LA before a visit to Austin. Emotionally scarred from my previous haircut (I went from Zooey Deschanel to Mia Farrow in one visit, thought the end result was less than icon-worthy), I was welcomed with enthusiasm and an extended consultation with Sarah, who gushed about "loving to cut short hair" and immediately put me at ease. I had received a quote of around $70 on the phone when I made the appointment, but after Sarah cleaned up my style (or GAVE me some style rather), and recommended some products, she then informed me that she hadn't really done enough to feel ok with charging me. At all. I almost feel I would have paid the $70 just for the experience of being with such a lovely, honest, and talented technician. But instead I walked out with a product I could actually use, and a great Yelp review ticking away in my brain. Oh, and you can bet there was a fat tip for Sarah in there, too. read more

I guess I will be the only person in Austin to give this place less than 5 stars. And at first glance, I really am hesitant to do so because it probably just was "one of those off days". But nonetheless, that was the day I went to Method Hair for the first and only time. I am new to town and after several "Groupon" haircuts I decided to splurge and find a new hair stylist and salon to call my own. I called, made an appointment with whatever stylist was first available, thinking that all of them had to be great with so many amazing reviews and got an appointment about a week later. I am not going to call anyone out because like I said I am giving them the benefit of the doubt of it being a bad day all together, but after one do-over/fix it application of color and 4 hours later, I left very exhausted and unhappy. I was comp'd the service and given free product and offered another "gratis" visit to make up for the snafu. I really don't have any interest in going back and will feel more comfortable getting it fixed elsewhere. However, kudos for Amanda E. for being so nice and genuinely caring about "making things better" but that is really all I can say about my experience there. Sorry again to be the only bad review. The solid 5-star rating for Method.Hair is truly accurate. The rating is what brought me in, and now I'm happy to add yet another to its collection. Traveling and desperate for a haircut, I went to a salon in Houston (Bombshell Salon) and was greatly disappointed not just with the service, but definitely the haircut itself. It was uneven and not at all what I had specifically asked for. When my travels brought me to Austin, I again took to Yelp to find the perfect place to undo the damage done to my 'do. Method.Hair was the clear winner. My appointment was with Kristen, whom I was assured was a pro at precision haircuts. Right off the bat, Kristen took a good amount of time to really listen to my concerns and desires for my hair and thoroughly went over some options, making sure we were on the right page. She was very attentive and I felt completely heard and understood. Kristen started with a dry cut, evening out the uneven parts and blending everything in. Then I got a fantastic shampoo from Rainey, who included a bit of a neck massage, which felt amazing. Kristen then finished the cut with my hair wet, blow dryed it, and cleaned it up. She checked in with me often to be sure that I was getting what I wanted, handed me a mirror and turned me around so I could see what was being done and what could/would be done next, and really collaborated with me on what would make my hair look best, given the circumstances it was under from the poor job I had gotten a few weeks prior. Kristen spent a little over an hour on my hair, and when we were finished, it was PERFECT. My only regret is that I didn't find out about this place sooner so I could have skipped the disaster haircut I had gotten in Houston! I have my regular hair stylist back home, but if my travels ever bring me back to Austin, Method.Hair is THE place to go, and Kristen did a fantastic job on my precision cut. Highly recommended! Stacey was awesome. Thanks for the helpful reviews, yelpers. If you have bangs and you want them cut perfectly, then Stacey is the gal you need to see. She triple checked them to be sure every hair was where it needed to be. She genuine and not fake nice or obnoxious, which I definitely appreciate. We talked about food and yelp. Can we just discuss how much I love Method? I moved to Austin from So Cal almost three months ago- the land of long, beachy waves and trendy hair. I was growing out an ombre attempt that did not do good things for my hair. And being hair ADD, like I am, it was time to get rid of it. Enter Method. And Amanda Statham. Can someone explain to me why my girl has no one bragging her up? I mean, I'm ok with that, as it means it's easier for me to call dibs on her skills, but where's the love, people? I originally called for another stylist, but the girl at the front desk pointed me to the nearest opening with Amanda. I am so glad she did. First of all, I thought going to a stylist with a tattoo back home was edgy of me. Amanda is a badass with a full sleeve of zombie Elvis. She's got piercings. Her hair is edgy. Her clothes are edgy. Coming from the bubbly OC, this was a leap of faith for me, trusting a relatively simple look (long, layered, and stereotypical) to a woman who wears individuality like a superhero cape. I'm so glad I didn't freak out and I trusted her. Amanda is a hair doctor. Or a PhD. I haven't decided. Regardless, my first appointment with her left me with more knowledge about my hair (and hair in general) than I have ever received. And my god. My hair. Let's discuss my hair, because it's a new favorite topic of mine. I have struggled for years to find the right auburn for my hair- not too cool, not too warm, a hint of copper, not so much of the golden so that I don't get washed out, not too dark so that I look austere, but still dark enough to have drama. No one has ever given me that color- til my girl Amanda did. And my layers? What Amanda calls her "soft core porn" layers, for how gloriously they move? Me gusta. Me gusta a lot. Amanda advises that I keep my style for a good long while to protect the integrity of my hair and help it renourish. With hair this rocking, my hair ADD is pretty damn cured. Sarah from the salon contacted me after she found out that I had a less-than-fabulous appointment 2 weeks ago, and asked for a second chance to showcase her shop's services. I'm very, very glad that I came in again. The second time around was a really great experience. Sarah is very genuine and you can tell that she really enjoys her work at the salon. She reshaped my long layers and now they are noticeably more awesome than they've ever been. It's something about the way my hair falls/lays now that is so different. She took her time shaping, framing, and lightening up my thicker, square layers from a previous haircut (at a local Aveda salon) and I'm very happy with the end result. The shampoo and blowout were much better this time too. I'm usually sensitive to stylists pulling my hair when washing and blow-drying, but Sarah had a very soft touch and it was an enjoyable experience. She styled my hair smooth, but big and wavy and it's still looking good right now at 6pm. I knew there was a reason this salon has amazing reviews on Yelp and I'm really appreciative of Sarah reaching out to me after I had a less-than-perfect experience. Knowledge is power at Method Hair. After years of cuts that went sour a week out of any salon, I sought senior stylist and skee ball aficionado Sarah Statham at Method. Sarah is like a mad hair scientist, if madness was defined as an obsession for hair health, all natural products, technique, and cutting-edge style. Sarah identified the characteristics of my hair and taught me how to love and not despise my hair. For example, I have dry and curly hair--yikes. Sarah explained that by gelling and pasting my hair down, I was actually pulling moisture out and making it less manageable and that it really needed more moisture. She cut my hair, I got a shampoo/head massage, and then--my favorite part--she put me under a drier to see what the cut would look like fully dry ... and then went over my head a second time to ensure it'd be top notch. Then she gave me some samples of great product that worked like magic. For the first time in my life, I love my hair. Oh, and she gives free trims. Wowie!!! I met Ranae on a hot Texas night on the bus. She introduced herself to me and gave me her card. Then a few months later, I actually cut my hair. During my appointment I felt like...Ranae was just an old friend I'd fallen out of touch with. Not only was Ranae an exceptional conversationalist, I may have been given the best haircut of my life. Ranae took the time to talk with me about what I wanted and how I take care of my hair. How did it pan out? A dry cut, shampoo, conditioner and head massage, wet cut, styling products, blowdry and tons of pro bono styling tips. I was looking and feeling fantastic. And then....she gave me a temporary purple highlight. WHAT COULD BE BETTER??? I can tell you: free samples, all those useful styling tips, wine, a great cut, and, most of all a hairdresser who is not only nice, but genuinely interested in her trade. The haircut Kristen just gave me was the best of my adult life, no exaggeration. This place is worth every cent, and I've never been so impressed by a stylist. I have curly hair, and even though Kristen does not, she knows her way around curly hair really well. I have never had a stylist dry cut my hair and style it curly to make sure it looks good curly and straight. She also gave me great tips on maintaining the curls, which was doubly impressive. I should add that I picked this place randomly based on reviews by other curly girls. This is the place you want to go if you have no idea where to turn. The first time I saw Jeromy I went in with my hair clean and air dryed. I told him, this is how my hair looks when I do nothing to it, and nothing is what I usually do. He made a huge improvement over nothing which requires me to do almost nothing. He totally made the most of my natural hair texture which is thick, heavy, wavy and borderline crazy. Taking away the heavy and crazy and leaving only the thick and wavy. Of course I can still get the straight and sleek look if I want. So now I have options. I like options. The color is very pretty as well. A little bolder, jucier and edgier. Less suburban mom. More urban sophisticate. Most of all, he listened to what I told him I wanted. He didn't cut my hair in a style that would only look decent if flat-ironed to death and that I would never be able to replicate myself. read more

Seriously? I couldn't have had a better Salon experience. First off, the energy the space has is relaxing and not pretentious, which was truly a breath of fresh air. I was blessed to have Michelle (McClendon) not just 'cut' my hair, but walk me through the steps of what she was going to do & then afterwards. (Only because I'm a chatter box.) She actually focused on my natural wavy/ curly hair & it looks fantastic! Not only did she welcome my talkative nature with patience, but she stayed focused. The Salon is clean and didn't smell like an chemical plant. I now have a stylist that I feel comfortable with and plan to stay with. I came into Method Hair for a pixie cut. I've been "growing" my hair out for a while but it had lately been driving me more than crazy so I was going to go back to very short hair. However, I wasn't completely committed to chopping it all off. When I sat down with Chuck I asked his professional opinion and he said that he liked my hair the way it was but thought it needed a little cleaning up and thinning out. When he was done I was a little sad because it did look a lot like my old haircut. But Chuck told me that if I still wanted to go pixie to come back within a week and he'd do it for me. So I thought what the hell, nothing to lose. The next day after my hair settled a bit I am totally in love! Chuck gave me the haircut I didn't even know that I wanted! I suppose the one star would be that Shannon seems like pretty cool people...we had lots to chat about. And although I wasn't happy with my cut, the lack of the other four stars is more for the salon in general. The cut that I ended up with was way too layered and just not what I had wanted...so I called the owner of Method in hopes that I could discuss it with him. He never returned my call. So I sent an email to their general email (only one I could find on their website, but I put ATTN to him and explained the whole situation). Again...I'm still waiting to hear from him. No response. Nada. You know maybe I was just an off cut. But in good faith I've tried to contact Method's owner multiple times to see if there was some way that something could be done to salvage my hair...another stylist, a credit, a partial credit, a feel good talk session, whatever. It has been over 3 weeks and I've since gone to a different salon and stylist and forked over more money for another cut. But there was only so much that they could do so essentially I got stuck with spending well over a hundred bucks on hair that's merely "meh" and basically I'll just have to wait to grow it out. If this is how Method treats their clients by not even acknowledging their concerns then I wouldn't recommend people to come here in the first place. There are plenty of other salon owners that appreciate people as customers and as people in general. read more

Method has so many great reviews, I'm sure this is just a drop in the bucket, but they deserve all the praise they can get. I usually get anxious before a haircut, but I absolutely trust the stylists at Method. They take into account the amount of time and effort you want to put into maintaining your hairstyle, so I never walk away thinking what I USED to think after a professional had styled my hair ("Well, it's never going to look this good again!"). My first cut was with Shannon Hollis--the first person to show me that my fine, usually limp hair could have sexy volume! My last cut was with Amanda Eggiman--the first person to unleash my hair's natural wavy texture that had been hidden when it weighed itself down. These ladies obviously love what they do, and put all their effort into every cut. Everyone in the salon is easy to talk to, and I love the positive, relaxed atmosphere (not to mention the complimentary beverages). It is a little pricey (my last cut was $75). I'm not a super girly-girl. I don't usually spend much on clothes or make-up, and I have never had my nails done. Visits to Method are the ONE thing I'm willing to spend money on. It makes life so much easier. My most recent visit will be more than worth it, since Amanda cut it so that I'll have to do WAY less work to make my hair look presentable. I'm moving away, and I'll miss Method so much! I can see myself attempting to schedule appointments at Method that coincide with visits back to Austin. =P read more

The fabulous Shannon Hollis (formerly of Birds on Burnet) has relocated to this east side gem of a place. It seems much more her style and perhaps comfort level. Called Birds to make an appointment with Shannon and, long story short, was redirected to her at Method. Not a whole lot of places will do that after someone has left them, but I'm glad that they did. I easily set up an appointment and was delighted to find out that she was going to be charging her Birds customers Birds prices. As usual, my hair looks fabulous. And she did something with the color that I never would've thought of in a million years. The salon itself is clean and mod... with stations set up across from one another. It was a little odd to look under the suspended mirror and to see someone else sitting, from the waist down. I love being able to drink wine while getting my hair worked on, just as much as I enjoyed the beer at Birds. I'm glad that I've finally found a stylist that I can bond with, and I'll pretty much follow her anywhere at this point. read more

Jon D did the impossible. I finally love my very straight, fine and limp hair. Because....it no longer looks straight, fine and limp. I liked him from the very start. He's approachable, friendly, candid and his myriad life experiences (he's studied macrobiotics and shiatsu in addition to doing hair) give you the sense that he's got the outside perspective that will leave you with a hair style that will work for you, in your bathroom, whatever your level of hair "expertise". Most impressive was our initial pre-cut consultation. We spent easily 15 minutes discussing my hair, my lifestyle (how i hate "doing" my hair) and looking through magazines to find ideas. I had my hair cut again by Shannon sometime last summer. She did a lovely job. I recently decided it was way past time for a new cut, so I went to Method's handy-dandy online appointment booking system and set myself up a cut with Shannon for Saturday afternoon (a time that is convenient for me as a working-during-the-week type person). Done and done, right? Nope. I got a long voicemail from someone at the salon a day or two later, stating that Shannon would actually be out of town all week and that I had somehow managed to book my appointment in the moment that they were blocking out her time on the online schedule. Interesting. Oh, and they offered to see if they could fit me in on the following Wednesday. Yeah, that doesn't work for this worker bee, but thanks anyway. Maybe they could have worked out something better had I called back, but the tone of the voicemail didn't make me feel like trying, frankly. (I have difficulty talking to people on the phone in general, for reasons that are far too complicated to jump into in a Yelp review, but it's way worse if there's some kind of problem. The voicemail sounded like I was the problem.) I'm removing two stars. The convenience of online booking is what really seals it for me -- I don't have to try to get someone on the phone, I can just look and see what's open and works in my schedule, book it, and show up. I'm probably being nitpicky, and I realize things change, but this experience has turned me off of Method. I'm sure Shannon still does some awesome hair (and she's definitely still in demand, as it's kind of difficult to schedule an appointment with her even WITH the online magic), but it's not worth it if I can't count on appointments actually being booked when they've been confirmed. And a voicemail offering me a crappy alternate time to come in? Meh. I'd be more understanding if they'd told me she had some kind of urgent situation requiring my appointment's cancellation or some such, I guess. I poked around forever and found another salon on Yelp that looks promising and could schedule me for Saturday... but I had to call them. Sadface. read more

A little about myself. I'm a dude. I play sports. I went to Baldwin Beauty school for my haircuts for a really long time and dealt with lopsided haircuts because they were only $5. Then I moved up to birds barbershop, which I thought was cool because they gave me beer and the cuts were only $18. But after having my stylist cut my ear a couple times, and complain about having dull scissors, i decided it was time to upgrade again. SO...I went to Method for the first time today. My appointment was with Todd. I showed up about 10 minutes early and he got me seated right away. I have short hair so I don't need anything too crazy done to it, but Todd worked some voodoo magic with his scissors and I can say, hands down, that this is the best haircut I have ever gotten. I'm a 50 yr old male who still can and does grow his hair long. I've always been trepidatious about haircuts because most stylists who should really call themselves barbers due to their lack of creativity and penchant to fit men into the same 3 or 4 styles , either fail to listen to what I want or think they know better or just don't have the talent to style. After doing an exhaustive internet search I came across method hair , and their website which gives a biography on all their stylists was a positive first step. After reading all the biographies I found at least 3 stylists that appealed to me. Quite an achievement when you consider that I've only liked one stylist in 50 yrs. I decided to make an appointment with Rafael as his biography and persona appealed to me most. When first entering method hair I was greeted warmly and asked if I'd like something to drink and told that Rafael would be with me shortly. When Rafael introduced himself he was very warm and friendly and it was quite obvious after a couple of minutes of talking with him how truly passionate he was when it came to styling hair. I told Rafael how my hair is a bit wavy on the sides and if not taken into account which most of my previous stylists chose to ignore , that the end result would be a flyaway disaster. Rafael not only noticed as soon as I said it but he cut and layered my hair in a way that had it looking the best it had in 25 yrs as it looked full, vibrant and healthy. Rafael listens , understands and puts all that into motion with his talent and with a vision that I myself could have never seen. Rafael is a true artist and a very friendly man who listens to everything you say and not only knows how to put it into action to give you a great hairstyle but he also knows how to take what you tell him and create a style for you even better than anything you could have envisioned . I live in Lakeway but in this day and age of mostly barbers masquerading as stylists , it is worth a trip every 2 months to method hair to get a great cut and style. Thank you Rafael and while I haven't used any of the other stylists at method I can Tell that the owner puts a lot of effort into hiring stylists who are passionate and knowledgeable. I first went to Method.hair after hearing about it on Facebook. I girl posted that if you have curly hair you have to go to Shannon! I was looking for someone in Austin to do my hair since I was still commuting back to Houston when I needed to get my hair cut. So I gave Shannon a try... that was 3 years ago. Since then this place has blown up and getting in with Shannon requires a 2 month wait and there's no wondering why. The lady is amazing. This is a hair salon with pure talent and professionalism. Shannon cuts and styles with pure intuition. She was born to do this. Just by the way she touches your hair you can tell this isn't another by-the-book average stylist. Every move is made with intention. She listens to what you want and she executes it flawlessly. I have gotten to the point now that I just let her do whatever she wants because I trust her immensely. The best part is, while I'm waiting for my next appointment, my hair grows out great. That's the sign of a truly great hair cut - one month later your hair has grown into the cut and looks just as great the day you got it cut! Yes, as others have mentioned, you will pay top dollar for these services but when it comes to maintaining beautiful and healthy hair it's worth it! I know there are a lot of other 5 star reviews on here but I just wanted to put in my two cents. I really hate to rate a place I love this much. Please don't go here. I need it all to myself. The staff is amazing. They log my product purchases to help me remember what I've tried. They offer samples freely so I can invest in these products more strategically. Moreover, they know the science behind the products and explain it in a clear, non- pressuring manner. Amanda E cut my wavy hair. Thank god. No one else in this town has given me decent layers until now. She and I have the same philosophy on hair--all the work should be done in the salon, then on a daily basis you don't have much to do to feel like your hair looks its best. I don't write very many Yelp reviews, but I felt compelled to after my experience visiting Method Hair. I should say that it didn't start 100% positive from the beginning, which really wasn't down to anyone's fault there. Rather, it was really a problem with me not communicating very clearly about what I wanted to begin with. To save a long, tedious story, I didn't have the stylist with which I booked the original appointment trim enough off the first time. (For the record, she asked me twice if she had taken enough off and I told her it was fine so this was really down to me not being clear enough with her. Again, wasn't her fault.) After a few days of living with the new cut I realized I needed to go back in to have a little more trimmed off than I had originally thought I wanted. So this is where the good stuff started happening. I called them back to reschedule an appointment and they were totally cordial and understanding about the whole thing and said come back in and we'll make sure we get you fixed up to your satisfaction, which I did a few days later. My original stylist was off that day and I couldn't wait due to an upcoming business trip, so they recommended I come in to see Ruby instead. To make a long story short, she did an excellent job of getting my hair just right! This was not a quick "snip, snip, now get out of my chair because I have other clients waiting" kind of thing. She really took her time to make sure I left looking good, which I did. Well as much as possible with my fine, unruly hair, at least. She also sent me home with a free product sample she recommended might work better with my hair type. That was above and beyond the call of duty. Not to mention she was really a pleasure and fun to talk to throughout the whole process. After a year back in Austin, I think I finally found my new go to stylist. Highly recommended. And then your brain just exploded with happiness that you no longer had to live in that world anymore? Well, it's about to happen again. Method hair is going to make all your dreams come true, heal all your hair trauma wounds, and restore your faith in this profession, and heck, maybe in humanity itself. I am as totally smitten with this place as all these other reviewers. The stylists here are simply amazing and Method has become my go to haircut spot. I have yet to see someone walk out of here with less than great hair - regardless of what they walked in with. And that count includes a woman who sat next to me who had not had hers cut in 3 years. 3 years!!! What more could you ask for? Awesome people? Cool art work on the walls? A neck massage while you are getting shampooed? A consistently great haircut regardless of which Method stylist you meet with? You're going to get all of that too. I have to preface this review with an apology to Jeremy for having to deal with my unruly hair that hadn't been cut since January!!! It was bad, and I mean REALLY bad. No recent hair cut and being on prenatal vitamins was a combination that my hair just didn't like. However, Jeremy took it in stride and didn't make me feel like an idiot or lazy for not having it cut. He simply gave suggestions (which I agreed with) that would allow me to have a nice haircut with low maintenance. He also suggested keeping some length to it so that I could keep it out of the reach of my 4 month old!! I LOVE the hair cut, and I L-O-V-E Jeremy. He was great. We sat and talked the entire time about a recent trip of his to NYC (oh the gold old days when I used to spend weekends there every month) and the old Lalapalooza concerts (back in the day when they first started). Oh...and Ritual De Lo Habitual...one of the greatest albums ever. All-in-all if you are looking for a high class salon, this is not your place. However, if you are looking for something that is low key, friendly, not pretentious, and will give you a great cut...then this is your place hands down! I was a bit nervous when I moved to Austin and had to start the daunting task of finding a new, local hairdresser. One of the best salons I've been to. My first introduction to method.hair was the online booking - what an amazing concept! It can be frustrating to schedule an apt. without being able to look at the scheduler's appointment book...this solves the problem - love it! Once I located the salon (easy to find I might add), I had no trouble finding free on-street parking, another plus. Although I had to wait a few for my appointment, I now understand why - the stylist was some sort of edwards-siccorhands genius. She took her time, worked her magic and hooked me up! I will be back! After having my hair butchered at another Eastside hair salon (Orbit Salon), I made an emergency appointment at Method Hair to get my hair 'fixed'. Amanda E. transformed the ridiculous 1990s 'Rachel' do the other stylist gave me into a super cute and easy to work with bob. She totally won me me over as a client. She listened to me about how I style my hair and accommodated my request for a low maintenance cut (as much as one can with a short do), and even shared tricks on ways I could style my hair to 'change it up' easily. I've been back since to get my hair trimmed and my hair looks just as good as it did after the first cut (maybe better since the mutilation of the Orbit cut limited what we could do the first time). Treat yo self! First and most importantly, I'm really happy with my haircut from Natalie at Method. It was my first appointment at the salon and I will be back. I was there for nearly two hours, but that wasn't a bad thing. It was more like a spa experience with a shampoo head massage that would have paid for separately. Natalie was fantastic. She listened and produced a haircut that I am happy to have on my head -- meaning it falls into place without me thinking about it! Kristin is a hair magician...and not the kind that specializes in illusions that wash down the sink the first time you try to style your new cut at home. To give you some background, my hair and I WISH we had a love/hate relationship. Ours has always been a little more like mutual disdain. A few years ago, things became so tense that I just shaved most of it off, and when I finally decided it was time for us to make up, it responded by growing out into a mullet. After 8 long months of ponytails, I came to Method for some hair therapy. I'd read their rave reviews, and was hoping they could work out some kind of a truce, at the very least. Kristin was extremely friendly and really listened when I explained what I wanted. When I suddenly blurted (out of nowhere) that I was afraid that the cut I had asked for was too conservative, and might make me look older...and mind you, this was in the clean-up phase of the cut...there wasn't even a hint of an inner eye-roll. In a few short minutes, she took my rounded, classic bob and turned it into a blunted, more modern one. I LOVE my hair. It's been two and a half months since the cut, and my hair still does exactly what I want it to, with almost no effort. I'm so happy to have Kristin's amazing hair skills on my side! Plus she's a pretty cool human being--she recently got back from teaching the hair cutting trade to women overseas who had been rescued from human trafficking. Terrible service. Charged me $65 for canceling due to sickness during a pandemic. I spoke to the manager, who was extremely rude, and she claimed I was scheduled for an adult haircut with a stylist who doesn't do kids cuts, yet I scheduled for my five year old child. read more

Christina was recommended to me by a friend, and I was not led astray! Christina fixed my bad layer job I got in Houston, and she took time to curl my stick-straight hair into waves, leaving me with a fabulous blowout for days. She's amazing. The only downside of Method is the lack of parking -- get there a little early to find a spot on the street. read more

Simply put, Shannon gave me my most favorite haircut ever. Throughout most of my life, when I'd enter a salon I'd be basically shamed by the stylists. "Oh.... you have a lot of hair...." they'd snidely say, or "Your hair is taking a super long time to style" (...I'm sorry for my head of hair...!?). Rare was it that I'd leave a salon with the haircut I wanted, but instead left with a style that was more convenient for the stylist. Shannon is awesome, and so is this salon. For my first haircut with Shannon, she was helpful, insightful, and fun. She was meticulous throughout the whole thing (I've never had someone really take the time to make sure my bangs looked so sharp!). This is the best experience I've ever had at hair salon and I've been to quite a few. I lost my stylist at another salon and the next person I tried there cut my hair too short. I was trying to grow my hair out from a bob cut and was pretty discouraged after that haircut because I lost a lot of length when I had only asked for a trim. Also, the cut itself didn't look good, especially as it grew out. I think it's extra points for a stylist when a cut grows out well. My stylist at Method.hair, Natalie, asked what had brought me in and what I didn't like about my current hair. She totally understood and improved the explanation of what I was not liking about my cut. I had thought I might have to go back to a bob even though that's not what I wanted but she explained how we could improve the cut without losing length and understood how it had been a pain to go through the awkward phase of growing my hair out again. I asked her questions about styling and possible hair color to go with the cut and she actually read my mind about the color scheme that I had been wanting for a while. She also made suggestions for products (I have dandruff), gave me samples to try at home, and made suggestions about which ones would be more cost effective for me than others. I told her I would bring in some hair products that I wanted to donate (since they donate shampoo and conditioner to Austin shelters), and she gave me a fifteen percent discount on the two hair products I bought from the salon. I appreciated how she explained a longer term plan about how I could grow my hair out, how often i should come in for a cut, options that we could do with my bangs in the future, and how I could learn more styling techniques, when I come in again. She also explained the kinds of cuts and colors that are in style, would match my face shape, and she could picture me with. When I talked about doing a crazy cut at some point she said she could recommend one of the stylists for it. I appreciate when stylists don't just agree with everything I say because I'm asking for expert guidance and that she knows what areas another stylist would be better in, instead of agreeing to do a service that I may not end up liking. On top of that- they have mimosas (major win) and inspirational appointment date cards. The scalp massage was on point as well. Most importantly- I really love my cut and the relatively easy styling for it. I liked it as a dry cut and when it was styled, which is really important to me cause I'm pretty low maintenance. My hair felt great and I spent the rest of the day feeling confident and fabulous. I went to CVS to get a prescription and the pharmacist told me my hair looked great she wanted to know how to do that or if my hair did it naturally (ha!) read more

I was fed up with teaching salons and DIY trims, so I decided to sell a kidney and make an appt. with Sarah at Method Hair. First off, what a cutie! Sarah was so perky and blonde and bad ass with her tats and piercings, and the biggest sweetheart! She listened to my wants, needs and anxieties, and then brought me back to reality. Depressingly, I was not going to get the color procedure I wanted, but only because Sarah is a professional and a perfectionist. We discussed my other options and decided on a course of action that would allow me to get the procedure done at a later date. She took no offense when I told her that I could not afford another appt. with her, so she recommended one of her other, less expensive stylists. Although I did not get what I had come in the salon for, what I did get was a big slap upside the head and found out that everything I thought and believed about my hair for the past 39 years was WRONG! I was so impressed with Sarah's knowledge of not just hair, but my hair type and its quirks. As she put it, I have the Ferrari of hair, but have been putting cheap gas in it. So with this new knowledge, Sarah spelled out a list of do's and don'ts and introduced me to the magic potions of Kevin Murphy. She spruced up my existing cut, touched up my roots, and sent me on my merry way with a bagful of KM samples, a follow up appointment with Katie for the five hour, double process procedure I had originally wanted, and a big fat hole in my bank account. But I wouldn't have changed a thing, purely for the knowledge that the Hair Guru Sarah imparted on me. She's a gem.......sadly I cannot afford her services on a regular (ever) basis, so I am hoping that her smarticles and brilliance has rubbed off on her other stylists, because this Ferrari is coming back for a tune up! read more

Given the state of the economy, I attempted to box color my own blonde hair. Or the roots/grey at least. The new growth turned bright pink. And not cute pink...weird orangy pink. Shannon fixed it so you could hardly tell in the first visit without any further damage. And gave me a cute fringe cut to boot. The second time I went in she got all the rest of the pink out. I left blonde, sassy, and shiny! I learned a hard lesson of box dye, but now I know!! read more
