I have been going to Shannon at Method for over two years now. I used to go to Pink but left about six months before they closed since the service was getting bad. I found Method on Yelp as I rarely make it to the East side of town. I am so glad that I found it before it really got popular. Shannon is nice and professional. In the two years, I have been seeing her I have only had to wait for her once. Even that time as soon as I walked in she told me I was going to be waiting and gave me other options besides waiting. I decided to wait and was shocked that she gave me some money off for having to wait. That is professionalism. For so many years, I thought it was normal to spend hours getting my hair done. I love how punctual and efficient she is. She doesn't book three people in the same time slot. Since I get color she may book a male haircut while I am processing but that is it. The other thing I love is the fact that no one has ever pushed products on to me. I am a huge fan of Deva Curl and can't see myself changing. It has never been an issue. Love that! I have curly hair which can be difficult to cut but Shannon takes the time that is needed to make sure it is right. Since my experience was so good, my husband decided to try them out and has been seeing Todd for two years now. I can't speak to his experience with Todd but I love the results. Before I went to Brooke, I rarely went to the same hairdresser more than once. Most of them never actually explained to me their plan of attack and/or most of them were overwhelmed by the amount of hair I had. About little over a year now, I met Brooke and I've been dedicated to her since. I've never had such an honest hairstylist before. She has transformed my hair physically and aesthetically over this past year. I've never received so many compliments on my hair! This woman is a miracle worker and dedicated to her profession. We've had multiple six-hour sessions and I've never heard her complain once (IDK how she does it). She has colored my hair from everything to a vivid red to a blonde/pastel color to a cool brunette (pics below). I can't say this enough but I HIGHLY recommend Brooke. WooHoo! As good as it gets! That is an understatement! Amanda Eggiman gave me the makeover I was looking for! I have long, curly hair of many textures and have not had a decent cut in 15 years! I was reduced to getting no more than a trim a couple times a year and could not even hope for style because the results were always a disaster. I've been going to Michelle at Method for nearly 3 years. I am picky, picky, picky about both my cut and my color but, she gets me, even when I fail to articulate what I want. And, she is honest with me if I ask for something that's dated or just wrong for me. Wow. Where do I EVEN begin. I hate cutting my hair. I've literally never had a hair cut I liked, and I've never left a salon NOT in tears. Turns out, I've never had a good hair cut because every stylist I've ever gone to has been fighting against my curly hair and giving me a cut that could only be styled straight. Method was different. MICHELLE IS A MIRACLE WORKER! This was my first hair cut in 8 years and she was so patient and helpful. I had done so much research and brought in so much info, and she patiently sat there and listened to everything I had to say. Then she gave me a dry cut, which I've never had. The whole 2 hours was more like a 2-hour class in how to actually manage my natural hair texture instead of fighting it. She taught me so much and also made me feel so lucky to have my hair - which I've hated all 28 years of my life. She taught me about products, techniques, dos and don'ts, the science behind why my hair was reacting the way it was, seriously she was SO helpful. She reminded me that this is going to be a work in progress and it will take time before I find the right products to make my curls look their best, and I've been keeping that in mind since the cut in the moments where my insecurities were tested haha. Method's sample program is also great because you don't have to spend a ton of money on products that might not work for your hair type. Plus they do free touch ups between cuts! After I moved to Austin in 2013, it took me over a year to find someone to cut my hair. I originally went to another salon after some extensive yelp sleuthing and recommendations from friends. Unfortunately, I wasn't super pleased with the service that I received from that first salon -- I felt out of place, they always flat-ironed my hair even after I told them that I preferred my natural texture, and the stylist criticized me (several times) in front of her staff and clients when I went in for a haircut after dyeing my hair myself. Three strikes and you're out, yo. My roommate came home one day after getting a haircut with Ruby and raved about her and the salon's atmosphere. Her hair looked amazing, as well. I hopped on the Ruby train right then and have never looked back. Ruby is great at listening to her clients and making recommendations that suit your particular hair type and/or styling preferences. Over the course of the last couple of years, Ruby has taken me through several stages of asymmetrical cuts before I fully took the plunge with short hair. I've learned how to air dry my hair and style it with ease -- my morning routine is sooooo easy, y'all! Most recently, Ruby balayage'd my hair and introduced me to Overtone (a color-depositing conditioner) because she knows I get bored easily with my hair and like to change it up fairly often. I get tons of compliments from strangers on my hair and I attribute it all to Ruby. The atmosphere of the salon is comfortable -- I never feel like I'm not fancy enough to be there. Someone finally did it! They finally gave me the shag haircut that I've been wanting for years! That someone is Michelle and I will forever be grateful. She spent sooo much time with me and tutored me about styling and products etc. She cut my hair dry and then washed it and then did some touch ups and...the results are amazing. I'd been blow drying my slightly wavy hair into submission for years and now I'm using something called "Killer Curls" by Kevin Murphy. Huh? Plus I'm getting to skip a wash which has been a godsend for my aging hair. The only problem is I'm becoming addicted to compliments about my hair. I had an appointment yesterday with Shannon, and I can definitely say it was one of the best salon experiences and haircuts of my life! They gave me a glass of wine when I walked in the door. When she was done with her previous client, she came to get me and we sat and talked about my hair, including my normal styling and care habits, what I wanted, and what problems I had. Then after getting my hair washed, she cut my hair wet before styling it curly for me and doing some precision cutting. I couldn't stop smiling when checking out my new 'do in the mirror! I told Shannon that she made my natural curls look like curling iron curls (with curling creme and a diffuser!)...she definitely works some magic. She gave me tips along the way and even gave me a great sample of the new curling creme "Killer Curls" to take home and practice. I'm a 50 yr old male who still can and does grow his hair long. I've always been trepidatious about haircuts because most stylists who should really call themselves barbers due to their lack of creativity and penchant to fit men into the same 3 or 4 styles , either fail to listen to what I want or think they know better or just don't have the talent to style. After doing an exhaustive internet search I came across method hair , and their website which gives a biography on all their stylists was a positive first step. After reading all the biographies I found at least 3 stylists that appealed to me. Quite an achievement when you consider that I've only liked one stylist in 50 yrs. I decided to make an appointment with Rafael as his biography and persona appealed to me most. When first entering method hair I was greeted warmly and asked if I'd like something to drink and told that Rafael would be with me shortly. When Rafael introduced himself he was very warm and friendly and it was quite obvious after a couple of minutes of talking with him how truly passionate he was when it came to styling hair. I told Rafael how my hair is a bit wavy on the sides and if not taken into account which most of my previous stylists chose to ignore , that the end result would be a flyaway disaster. Rafael not only noticed as soon as I said it but he cut and layered my hair in a way that had it looking the best it had in 25 yrs as it looked full, vibrant and healthy. Rafael listens , understands and puts all that into motion with his talent and with a vision that I myself could have never seen. Rafael is a true artist and a very friendly man who listens to everything you say and not only knows how to put it into action to give you a great hairstyle but he also knows how to take what you tell him and create a style for you even better than anything you could have envisioned . I live in Lakeway but in this day and age of mostly barbers masquerading as stylists , it is worth a trip every 2 months to method hair to get a great cut and style. This is the best experience I've ever had at hair salon and I've been to quite a few. I lost my stylist at another salon and the next person I tried there cut my hair too short. I was trying to grow my hair out from a bob cut and was pretty discouraged after that haircut because I lost a lot of length when I had only asked for a trim. Also, the cut itself didn't look good, especially as it grew out. I think it's extra points for a stylist when a cut grows out well. My stylist at Method.hair, Natalie, asked what had brought me in and what I didn't like about my current hair. She totally understood and improved the explanation of what I was not liking about my cut. I had thought I might have to go back to a bob even though that's not what I wanted but she explained how we could improve the cut without losing length and understood how it had been a pain to go through the awkward phase of growing my hair out again. I asked her questions about styling and possible hair color to go with the cut and she actually read my mind about the color scheme that I had been wanting for a while. She also made suggestions for products (I have dandruff), gave me samples to try at home, and made suggestions about which ones would be more cost effective for me than others. I told her I would bring in some hair products that I wanted to donate (since they donate shampoo and conditioner to Austin shelters), and she gave me a fifteen percent discount on the two hair products I bought from the salon. I appreciated how she explained a longer term plan about how I could grow my hair out, how often i should come in for a cut, options that we could do with my bangs in the future, and how I could learn more styling techniques, when I come in again. She also explained the kinds of cuts and colors that are in style, would match my face shape, and she could picture me with. When I talked about doing a crazy cut at some point she said she could recommend one of the stylists for it. I appreciate when stylists don't just agree with everything I say because I'm asking for expert guidance and that she knows what areas another stylist would be better in, instead of agreeing to do a service that I may not end up liking. On top of that- they have mimosas (major win) and inspirational appointment date cards. The scalp massage was on point as well. Most importantly- I really love my cut and the relatively easy styling for it. I liked it as a dry cut and when it was styled, which is really important to me cause I'm pretty low maintenance. My hair felt great and I spent the rest of the day feeling confident and fabulous. I liked the enthusiasm and ambience. Scissors on the wall are cute. I didn't like feeling stupid, which is what I felt when my stylist used the word "frumpy" to describe my look. Saying "it's like a pixie mullet" wasn't nice, either. It's not cool to shit talk my 'do to another stylist while I'm right there. Can we agree? When I was asking about color, her eyes were looking across the room. Was I boring her? She said very little, and as a result, no plan for color was developed. Bueller? So bang and neck trims are free. That's cool. Super cool. But it comes with commentary. The first time I was in, my ear got nipped by scissors. Complementary hair goods were sweet to get as a result of that, but putting nasty, deprecating words about my looks in my ear tonight was just awful. The last time I had a hair dresser that I loved...and by loved, I mean...WORSHIPED in a goddess-like fashion, followed her around like a puppy dog, thought she could do no wrong even if she turned me into a platinum blonde and shaved slanted cuts into both my eyebrows on a crazed psychotic break of a whim...sort of way----I was 18 years old. I faithfully saw this dear woman and relied on her heavily. She understood that though I sported a pixie cut, I didn't want thin wispy tapered sideburns like every other pixie cut female walking the planet. I wanted a straight edged cut....that still made me look feminine. And by gosh, she would deliver.How do you deliver that hair cut? I don't know...but she did it. It was hair that I consistently got stopped by onlookers to be told how great of a cut it was. She was incredible. And theeeeeen the heifer left me. She up & moved to "Nebraska"...for "family" or some bs excuse like that. I'm still scarred by that breakup...I mean informative conversation she had with me. And for 10 years I wandered around like Moses and his band of Israelite's did in the desert for 40 years. I was aimless, fruitless, lost and forlorn. I NEVER once saw a hair stylist more than once because NO ONE ever delivered the hair I KNEW I was born to rock. I never, ever thought I'd see that would-be land of milk and honey where hairdressers knew what the they were doing with curly hair. A place where a hair dresser embraced natural hair, didn't want to "thin" thick curls, or heaven forbid thought that using a razor on curly hair would help give you texture.(WE HAVE CURLY HAIR...WE'VE ALREADY GOT TEXTURE COMING OUT OF OUR YING YANGS THANK YOU!) A mystical, magical land where each and every stylist in a salon was masterful at what they created in their chairs. I had all but given up...chalked it up and heavyheartedly resigned this dream to folklore. 10 years went by, I had now transitioned from a pixie to a place where I'm trying to grow my hair to Mulan-like lengths. And then I moved to Austin. Don't get me wrong, I love so many things about Austin, but certain things were getting me super down in the dumps. (lack of cultural diversity, lack of fashion diversity...ect.) So, in search for something to help me feel like this city was finally home...I booked an appointment with Amanda E. at Method.Hair, waited with baited breath...and BY GEORGE, HALLELUJAH, PRAISE THE BABY OF EVERY WOMAN WHO HAS EVER CLAIMED IMMACULATE CONCEPTION...I FOUND MY MT. SINAI, MY MECCA, MY REASON FOR BEING (hairwise that is).... This ravishing goddess of a woman pulled up a stool, plopped down, and talked to me for 10 minutes about my hair--it's history, the products I used (I actually brought her every product I used to make my hair curl so that she could steer me in the right direction), what I wanted, what my ideal hair would look like, and other things I can't even remember! And then-----as if inspiration came wafting out of the hair dryer blowing near us and into her genius skull----she just knew. She knew what needed to be done with my hair. I had come armed with hopeful pictures of what I dreamt my hair could one day be. I was STUNNED when I didn't have to pull one single picture out to "show" her what I wanted. I can't begin to explain the magic that ensued. I simply can not break down, or convey how this woman did what she did. But it was ridiculous. She is TALENTED. She is beyond gifted. I know that the LOVELY Shannon gets BLOWN UP on here for her magical talents with curly hair....but, seeing as her, well worth it wait, can sometimes be a month out---and I was able to book with Amanda E. within the week....I'm telling you...GIVE THIS WOMAN A GO! I posted a picture on yelp of my hair after she got done with it...I had sex hair. She gave me f**kable hair. I know...that's vulgar, but I'm telling you....you'd want to seduce that hair if it was on your head too. Amanda did a deep conditioning mask on my hair, the AMAZING Renée (sp??---forgive me if I butchered it)....washed my hair and gave me a scalp massage that almost had me moaning. (You're welcome Renée .... I know that would have probably made you feel really strange, awkward, and potentially completely skeezed out....but woman, you have a gift.) All the ladies at this salon were so sweet, and would comment on other client's cuts...and it was just such an uplifting environment. Method----I'm sold. No other hair-artist will TOUCH these locks except for Amanda E. Y'all are .... well....like I said...you gave me F***kable hair....what the hell else could I ask for?? I wanted to love it here...I really did. It definitely has a cool vibe. My first visit was for a simple trim and it took a little over 2 hours from start to finish. Yes, you read that right...2 hours for a trim. I had a 10-15 min. deep conditioning, otherwise the trim took about 1.5hr. The stylist didn't seem very confident in what she was doing. She pushed the product line haaaard from the beginning. It was exhausting. Then after drying my hair, she said it was kind of "crispy" because she had put "a tidge too much product in". Amanda, the stylist working next to her, walked by toward the end of my appointment and looked at the back of my hair like I had a rodent stuffed in there or something. (It also seemed like they didn't like each other. The tension was so awkward and uncomfortable.) I did go back to have it fixed and the second stylist (barber?) talked "at" me about how this is just what hair does when it's growing out and mine is particularly troublesome with the cowlick, and the style, and my pony tail, and ohmygodshedidntstopfuckingtalking. I wanted to effing leave before she started, but I'm not a jerk like that. She gave me blunt bangs after I asked for some soft fringe and not a rat's nest on my head. The appointment was so much about her. So, that sucked. I didn't realize how bad it was until I went to a new stylist and she jokingly asked if I had cut it myself with blunt scissors and no mirror. I'm since still trying to grow it out so we can continue to fix the damage. I highly recommend waiting to get in with a top stylist at Method or just go somewhere else. I found out later that I had been scheduled with a junior stylist and it ended up being a waste of time and money, and for the first time in almost 30 years I don't like my hair. read more

Oh Ranae..oh Method Hair. Let's dive right in shall we folks?! Have you ever had a haircut last almost 3 hours?! Have you ever had someone really take the time to understand what your hair naturally does? Or someone who listens to what your real problem is behind the fake "I don't know just make it cute"? You know when you walk out of a salon and you feel like a million bucks and you just want to go somewhere and be seen because you love your hair so much? How you can't stop grinning from ear to ear because, with just the work of an hour's time and a few scissor snips, you're basically a whole new you? Yeah, that was totally me yesterday. I cannot speak highly enough of Ranae and Method.Hair. I booked an appointment for the works - consultation, deep conditioning treatment, incredibly personalized hair appointment - why not? It's about time I treated myself, anyway. This salon impressed me from start to finish. Every single person working there was a sweetheart. Someone greeted me and brought me some water and then Ranae came out and introduced herself and took me back to her station. Can we just take a minute to appreciate the salon itself? From the quirky art on the walls to the open layout, this place is so cute. I told Ranae to do whatever she wanted with my hair, as long as it made me look good. She commented that she hardly ever gets to do that and she looked pretty excited. I have a pixie cut and I explained that since cutting my hair short, I've gotten very into letting stylists take their own direction with it. I was pretty convinced I was in good hands and I trusted her judgment. She cut my hair dry first - that's a method I can get behind. I have never had a haircut before where someone was so detail-oriented with cutting my hair. She made sure everything was perfect - it was almost as if she cut every individual hair. After the cut, she shampooed and conditioned my hair. Those Kevin Murphy products smell ah-mazing. The deep conditioner was great and that neck and scalp massage? H'oh, my gawd. Ranae then put some body builder mousse in my hair and let it air dry - she wanted to see what it would look like for me at home. That is a method I can definitely get behind. (And that mousse? Throughout the process, Ranae kept commenting that she wished I could see because she was really liking how the look was coming along. I told her I wasn't even worried and that, from what I could tell, it looked awesome. (I wear glasses and you have to take those off during haircuts, rendering me blind.) The final reveal was glorious - this was, by far, the best haircut I have ever received. I promptly told her so and let her know that this would be my go-to salon. The whole experience was just wonderful. I never felt rushed, I got to sip green tea with honey while my hair dried, Ranae informed me that there is a skee ball league in Austin (what the what?!), and I left looking like a pixie princess. The samples they give you? The Angel shampoo and conditioner are great. I think I found my new go-to shampoo and conditioner, too, which is a big deal because I've been looking for a while. Another pro? They'll do dry trims for you in between haircuts. Soooo awesome, especially for pixie-sporting girls like myself. After I washed and styled my hair today, it looks just as good. Let it be known - there is a reason this place is solidly 5 star reviewed, I am revived! I will never go anywhere else in Austin! I immediately loved Ranae. She is beautiful, she has a very calm, warm vibe about her. I settled into that comfortable feeling and wondered, on a scale of 1-10, how inappropriate would it be to cuddle your newly-met stylist? She began with a full, careful consultation. I had recently been burned by a hideous electro-clash mullet from not one, but two well-reviewed salons in Austin, so although I'm not one to typically get weird and skittish about my hair, I was very nervous. She heard me out, discussed her strategy and waited for me to give my approval. When she began cutting, she explained that she liked to cut hair dry in sort of an organic way. I had never had my hair dry cut before, and it was very reassuring. I wasn't concerned that the hair would take on another life once dried, and my hair is a duplicitous wretch, so this is progress. After the cut, she lathered my hair up with nourishing Kevin Murphy products and gave me an absolutely killer neck and shoulder massage :swoon: I sipped a drink the whole time and felt absolutely unhurried. It was truly an experience, one that had me thinking about my wardrobe before going. I mean, I wanted to impress her! She sent me home with a bag full of samples to try, a gorgeous haircut, and an unshakable loyalty to Method, no matter what the price or lead time required to get an appointment. Method.Hair decides to call me at 8 AM to cancel my appointment at 2:30. There is a reason the appointment is at 2:30. Why on Earth would a hair salon think it appropriate to call a client at 8 AM is beyond me. Moreover, when I attempt to call back, they never answer. So...Method can wake me up at 8 AM to cancel an appointment 6 hours later....but I can't call them to re-schedule. Exceptionally lame and inconsiderate. read more

BELIEVE THE HYPE! Based on Yelp reviews, I booked an appointment with Amanda, and told her to cut my hair however she wanted, so long as it made me look sexy. (No small task.) She then proceeded to give me (I s**t you not) the best haircut of my life. She was so detail oriented it was as if she cut every single hair individually. She is equal parts fun, talented, and skilled. Now every time a girl runs her fingers through my hair, I feel like I am cheating on Amanda. (I said I feel that way - I don't stop it.) As if that wasn't enough, there was a scalp massage at the end. I don't want to over-dramatize, but I heard angels. Thank you Yelp, thank you Method, thank you Amanda. read more

Just updating my review to note that the main reason for my personal 5 star experience at method, Amanda E, has moved to another salon (luckily one close by so I didn't have to move). However, my mom and boyfriend both go to, and love, method, and outside the actual cut, I had nothing but great experiences at method, so while I'll be seeing amanda at her new location, I still consider method to be a five star joint. read more

I dig Method for a few reasons, but being able to schedule an appointment online is definitely up there for me (because I'm an iPhone obsessed dork). Getting to the goods though, Shannon was awesome. Easy to talk to, great glasses (yes this is important), and a great cut sold me on coming back. I needed something closer to my studio, and their location on the east side is about a block away from work. Proximity is great, but I'd recommend her and Method even if you lived in Round Rock. Come by to check them out. I'm sure everyone is great, though I can only vouch for Shannon (as it looks like many others have done as well). You'll be glad you did. read more

I just moved here from Houston and had an awesome stylist (hairdresser?) at Toni & Guy that I loved. And we were broke-ish right after we moved here so I'd gone to a T&G for a free fringe/neck trim. He didn't do exactly what I wanted, but hey, I'd find a new salon soon enough, right? Well, not soon enough, because it apparently grew out into something that was a cross between mullet and "Round Rock soccer mom." Or that's what Stacey said when I'd finally decided on a salon and made my appointment. And she fixed me right up. I like this place because (I like to support the east side!) it's small, everyone was friendly and I felt comfortable there. When I walked in, I sat down and someone offered me wine, beer or water. It was a Friday at 5 so I'd normally have jumped at the opportunity for free booze but I'd given blood at lunch and come on, I'm not a masochist. Anyway, Stacey totally understood where I was trying to go with my hair and she cut it in a way that will look good even as it grows out. She coaxed some curl into my slightly-wavy hair and I'm not sure how she did it, but I get more compliments on my hair AFTER I've slept on it. So I can rock the 2-day hair with complete confidence. I impulsively decided to go get a haircut in anticipation of the new year, and when I went to Birds it was a two hour wait, and Ducky wasn't even there, so... I decided to check a few other places and Method was close enough to my home to be a contender... So, I popped in and asked if they could do a walk-in, and they could! Jessica was really great, all the way through. Very pleasant and personable, and asked a lot of good questions about my hair and how I fix it. Then, she gave me a shampoo-conditioning-scalp massage thingee, and it was just... lovely. After the lovely hair washing experience, she gave me a great cut and style. I have fairly long hair, and she spent a lot of time working on the layers and making sure that there was a lot of movement and balance. I will definitely be coming back to see her. Me: "Hi. Do you have anything open for a guy's haircut in the next, say, 30 minutes?" Method: "Actually, we do. We can get you in at noon." Me: "Awesome. Who was that with and how much?" Method: "It's with Todd and it'll be $40." Me: "Great!" Seriously, how much simpler could scheduling a haircut with a new stylist get? I just moved to Austin and needed someone new to do my hair. I jumped on Yelp, found Method, gave 'em a call, and in about an hour had a much more presentable head of hair. They have sort of a confusing location...at least as far as I'm used to. I had to park in the dirt...which was a bit strange, but no big deal. The salon is pretty nice inside...comfy chairs and pretty cool artwork on the walls. Todd managed to uphold the reputation that Yelp gave him and delivered a great haircut and definitely appeared to know what he was talking about. Not bad at all, especially considering I'm saving $10 a haircut from what I'm used to paying! read more

No, no, no! Method is overpriced and the hair team is underdeveloped! Here is the quick version... I checked this salon out after reading all the gushy reviews, only to discover that these people are writing their own reviews. This becomes clear when you see their "Yelp" ad on the front door and hear about employees sitting around writing their own reviews during breaks... ANYWAY - I called, made appt, and asked about price and was given a range not to exceed $100. In the end, my "haircut" was a JOKE - I am still letting random cut up chunks grow out and my color was orange and NO WHERE near the root, when I left it looked like I already needed highlights again. Bottom line, I did not like what I saw in the mirror before leaving - but was told there was really nothing else they can do and made to feel that I was "impositioning" them. My colorist/hair person did not even verify the location of my part before chopping and coloring away - which really leads to styling issues in the long run. I mean come on that's basic! I just walked out of there looking like crap, hair half wet (stylist was too lazy to dry) and OUT $230. For a trim and color I paid $230. PS - I have shoulder length hair. The appt took about 3 1/2 hours. Its a very small salon, low traffic, pretty quiet, and the few clients I did see going in and out had mediocre cuts and color - I was just NOT impressed. C'mon people, we can do better! And seriously, these amazing reviews listed here - I question who wrote them...if you know what I mean! read more

I normally wait at least 2 weeks after getting a haircut before writing any kind of review. How a cut grows out is vastly more important than how it looks the day I walk out the salon's door. My cut from Sarah at Method was and continues to be a HUGE success. I have very thick hair (and a lot of it) - and I am going through the brutal task of growing it out. Sarah did an amazing job "cutting" without making it shorter, and more importantly, taking all the weight out. Two weeks later, it's growing out perfectly and I can't wait to go back in a few weeks. The color was equally great - it's still super shiny and hasn't dulled. My appointment started on time. The shop is super cute, the vibe is way cool and everyone was super friendly. All in all, a fantastic experience. read more
