We work with master gardeners and designers so we don't generally hire LJ for landscaping. The total paid to LJ including labor and supplies was approx $30,000. Many of the projects were completed to our delight, some to our satisfaction, and most recently we noticed a slip in quality. Overall we recommend LJ. And would suggest Ro anyone engaging them to walk everything down - grading, elevation, proper footing, dimensions, methods TWICE. Go over everything twice. Make sure you are on the same page and that the final intended put-through end result is CLEAR. Metallurgy Landscaping stood out immediately for responsiveness and follow-through. They were cost-competitive, but more importantly, they engaged on the design--offering ideas, suggesting smart alternatives, and keeping things practical rather than expensive for the sake of it. Work included new sod (matched appropriately to sun exposure), replacing railroad ties, and trimming trees that were getting too close to power lines. They showed up when they said they would, did solid work, and were consistently professional and kind. What I valued most was their transparency. For smaller pieces where results could vary, they set expectations clearly and didn't overpromise--they just worked the problem and delivered. Reliable, thoughtful, and easy to work with. I saw the temperatures dip and I bought a dethatcher to get to work. I set this weekend aside to do the work. I scheduled another company to come do the aeration. I spent Friday afternoon and Saturday morning mowing low and dethatching. At 2:30, the person supposed to do the aeration told me their machine broke. It was scheduled to rain at 4pm so I was a little frantic. Luis was able to fit me in at 4:20 and his team got to work. Luckily the rain held off. As they were aerating, I was overseeding lol. Started to drizzle as we were all finishing up. I managed to lay down some fertilizer just before the rain intensified. I can't thank Luis enough for doing such a last min job and considering it was just to aerate. They drove all the way from laurel just to help me out. More than the work itself, I really speak to the kindness he showed. Even when he arrived, we had a very nice conversation and it was just overall a nice exchange. I'll def look to work with Luis and his team again in the future.

These were pretty large, 75-100 year old trees. It was a two day job but it went off without a hitch. They cleaned up nicely after themselves too, leaving fewer branches than were on the ground even before they started and they also swept them off my roof for good measure. While it's not ever going to be a cheap job, I think the price they charged was fair for a full two day job of dangerous work. (I don't even get on stepladders, these guys were 40 feet in the air! Yikes!) I would absolutely call them again if any of the other trees start misbehaving.

Marcell's price was economical, quality of work exceeding my expectations and overall a reliable contractor which is challenging to find today. I will hire Marcell again for future landscaping projects in DC.

Eventually after 5 weeks of not cutting, they suggested I find another service, again, their lawn mower was not working. So contract at your own will.
