Great team and nice family-owned business. Very satisfied. No need to write more as the other 5-star reviews tell it all.

Having dealt with many tree services over the years I have found my forever company. Candi is extremely knowledgeable and her team works in unison so the project goes quickly and smoothly. They are just a pleasure to work with! Thank you Shifflett family! read more

Really awesome work - they came out in the big snow (!) and gave an estimate, then returned to do the trimming in a few days. We had already determined to have the overgrown trees and bushes cut back since they were obscuring the house. But then in the snow, the huge plantings began to break under the weight of the ice. Shifflett braved the weather and they know what they're doing. It's not just a chop job! What a difference to the curb appeal. Reach out to them now during the winter and they will fit you right in - a pleasant & professional family! Good job! read more

Would love to give a huge thanks to the Shifflett family for coming out on a holiday weekend to remove the remains of a very old oak tree that fell on our property, blocking the end of the driveway. The county removed the parts that were blocking public roadway. The tree actually split in half, so that half of it fell blocking the driveway, the street, and extended beyond our entire front yard, and the other half remained standing, which was rather concerning. Luckily it missed nearby structures like cars, power lines, houses etc (somehow). We were all very lucky. Candi and her uncle came out and assessed the damage and recommended we remove the remainder of the tree, which they quickly planned for later that week. They brought a crane and many crew members to safely remove the remaining part of the tree that stood. The whole team is professional, kind, and walked us through every step of the way. We are so grateful they came to us on a holiday weekend to clear our driveway so we could at least get out, and that they came back that week to finish the job with the necessary team members. We've worked with the Shifflett family in the past for tree removal and they've always done a great job. Thank you for your expertise and careful attention to detail, and we look forward to the next job! read more

They came quick to give a competitive and reasonable quote, but I have to wait 3 weeks as this is a busy season. The wait was very worthy, as they came on time and did a great job. Candy was there to discuss the approach and answer all my questions patiently and friendly. Will recommend to anyone who has the needs! read more

This is a great business! They responded to my request like the next day and came out to give me a free estimate. Mine was a small job that other tree services couldn't be bothered with but Shifflett said that no job was too small. I received a great estimate and promptly scheduled the service. Shifflett was both professional and just plain pleasant to deal with. I was notified when the job would be scheduled and the job was done quickly and professionally. All debris was cleaned up and nothing was left for me to deal with. All in all a pleasant experience and would definitely recommend Shifflett for any job large or small. Thank you Shifflett! read more

Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly team; did a great job. I'll definitely be using Shifflett again!

We just had 4 trees taken down with Shifflett and the whole process could not have gone better. Their team was responsive and flexible when scheduling the work, and the day of crew could not have been more efficient and polite. Taking large trees down is never cheap, but Shifflett was very reasonable. We highly recommend the Shifflett team! read more

The Shiffletts are great to work with from Ernie coming out to provide the initial quote to Kim for scheduling the work to Candi for providing an overview and leading the crew on the day of the project. Consummate professionals. We had a Zelkova four stories high with an 81-inch circumference that needed a special tree removal permit issued by DC govt. The tree was wedged between the concrete carport and a fence. The crew was super careful in safely taking down the tree bit by bit, mulching it, and making sure the surrounding areas were untouched. They also trimmed and shaped a cherry tree and removed two large limbs off a birch tree. This is the second time they have taken care of my trees, and I look forward to working with them again. Recommend them highly. read more

Fantastic. They left my yard cleaner then before. Big multi-part job done expertly and quickly. They even cleaned the adjacent yards where sawdust had fallen. No crashing limbs, all lowered by rope. I asked about 2 dogwoods in front and they advised since they were already half-dead, and all the equipment was there...15 minutes later = gone! Wouldn't call anyone else. read more

Shifflett Tree Service removed a ~ 40' willow oak from my townhouse backyard. The service also included stump grinding. Ernie Shifflett made a site visit two days after my initial call and my job was scheduled for two weeks later. Candy, the crew leader called the day before to confirm the job - all communications were done smoothly and professionally. It was, to me at least, a rather challenging job as there were many large limbs close to the backs and decks of three townhomes, including mine. Their take-down execution was flawless and was also fun to watch. The crew of 8 worked efficiently and quickly removing all cut limbs and the trunk. They left all three townhome yards and decks nicely clear of sawdust and debris. The "trunk spot" is nearly level with the ground and will be easy to level further for grass seeding. They evened out the ground and grass area where the enormous trunk fell. Their price was very reasonable for the 5 hours of intense work they completed. I highly recommend Shifflett Tree Service. read more

Excellent! They responded promptly to my inquiry and worked me into the schedule quickly to accommodate a special event that we had planned in the yard. Very professional and there were no games played in obtaining a reasonable quote (unlike other companies we contacted for this work). read more

We hired Shifflett Tree Service to trim and prune 9 trees around our house. They did an excellent job with a 7 man crew. Arrived at the scheduled time, trimmed and pruned all the trees to my satisfaction and cleaned up all of the debris. We had a number of difficult issues including a tree with a dangerous lean and multiple large dead branches which posed a serious risk to our family. With over 60 years of experience the people were artists in their quickly addressing difficult challenges. In minutes they manage to throw a rope extremely high and get full control of the leaning tree and brought it down safely in minutes to my amazement. They showed perfect mastery of their techniques with ropes, cutting wedges, undercutting, wedges, and hinges to perfectly and safely handle each and every challenges perfectly and with total control. But most of all their understood our requirements and met all our needs at a very reasonable price exactly the way we wanted. We strongly recommend Shifflett Tree Service Service, Kim, Candi, and the whole team. They could not have been better. read more

I had three large pine trees that were ready to fall in my backyard. Every time it rained, we were very nervous that they would fall on our house or neighbors house. I reached out to Kim and Ernie and Shifflet tree service and I couldn't be happier with the results. The workers came, were very professional, cleaned up very well, and did an incredible job. Took everything down to the stump and grinded it down and spread the mulch. It was an incredible experience. read more

We have used Shifflett 2x this year and they are great! Candy and her crew always go above and beyond. Her knowledge in her craft is impressive. We were so impressed with every little detail while working with this company. They are friendly, informative, offering insightful advice during planning. On the day of the job they rolled in with their small, incredibly organized and efficient army and did the work, careful to protect the yard and minimize impact to the area (difficult considering the considerable work to do), and finished a huge amount of work in record time. To top it off, they did a wonderful job read more

Estimate was way too high. Estimator showed up massless and would not provide a detailed estimate in writing.

They have taken care of treework for my house for over 18 years. They have always given a fair price, worked with my schedule. Their initial work was dealing with a backyard and very badly overgrown trees, some 20 years or more old. They removed the unhealthy trees and created an open and healthy beautiful yard. They had to bring in a crane. At no time was I concerned about damage to my property or my neighbors property. Every few years, I have had them out to check the trees and trim them as needed. Neighbors' trees and huge limbs have fallen in my yard, on my fencing, Shifflet has responded promptly and performed excellently as well. The pricing is always very fair. I always highly recommend them to friends and neighbors. read more

NEW YARD! Derwood MD. Would give them 10 stars if I could! What a great experience hiring such a professional, knowledgeable, friendly and fast working crew like the Shiffletts to completly clean up my Mom's yard which had become quite overgrown from years of not pruning, squirrel seeded trees and just aging trees. They came out same day and did estimate; scheduled the work for following week and had all the work done in one day. Candi walked the property several times and talked me through which trees needed to be removed and why, which should stay and be cleaned up dead branches removed) or pruned. All trees were marked and all work completed as agreed. They also put cabling in Magnolia tree to help preserve it. Price was incredibly reasonable. Bonus: they maintained a clean work area at all times. Great experience. Plan to have them come back annually to maintain. read more

A family-run operation, and in a good way. Three generations of Shiffletts came out to trim the trees on our quarter-acre and they completed it in only an hour. They arrived in a van and a truck with a wood chipper, and with three or four guys simultaneously hanging from trees, they finished their work and were gone before I had a chance to ask them to leave behind some of the woodchips for mulching! But they promised to drop off some chips after their next job. The previous firm we hired took four hours and did far less work, having to haul away large chunks of branches because they didn't bring a woodchipper with them and lacking the proper stump removal equipment. Mr. Shifflett is more than happy to give you a free quote, and although you might find them more expensive than other firms, they more than make up for it in efficiency, responsiveness, and quality (they allowed us to use multiple discount coupons from their ad to help bring down the price). Mr. Shifflett (Ernest) really knows what he's talking about and is more than willing to tell you what his workers are doing and why. They even performed a few other tasks that weren't part of the original quote, which made me very happy. All in all, we're very pleased with them and plan to use them again and again. read more

Shifflett Tree Service - Tree Services Near Me - Derwood, Maryland

They took down a dying ash for me and did a good job. I love that it's a family owned business also. There are a few reasons I'm giving them 1 star. A big one is that I just found out that despite my specifically asking if a tree removal permit was required, they said no. They know better - a permit was required and I could have been fined a serious amount of $$$. Both the homeowner and the tree service can get slapped with hefty fines (like $10K and up) for failing to apply for a permit to remove a tree. For a dead or dying tree, the permits are free. Adirondack Tree not only told me I had to get a permit, they also applied and got it for me. It took about 2 days. Many people may not be aware that in DC and other areas like Takoma Park, MD, you need a permit to remove trees above a certain size, but a professional tree service should know and follow this law, it's there for good reason. See https://ddot.dc.gov/page/tree-regulations Beyond that, Shifflett's estimate that was way more than those from two other tree companies. And last, they recommended trimming my huge elm tree in July, when both other tree companies said elms can only be trimmed in winter when they are dormant. Trimming them when they have leaves risks Dutch Elm disease. Shifflett has been in business for a long time and I have to believe they know better about all of the above. Really disappointed. read more

I wish every business conducted themselves the way Shifflett Tree Service does. We used them some years ago and they are the best. After some extremely heavy rains this summer, Rich was in the back yard when he heard a crack. A branch seven feet long and at least six inches around fell from one of our oak trees. Thank goodness no human and none of our three dogs was in the area. The next day there were more heavy branches down, probably because of the weight of being water soaked from the storm. We called Shifflett and they arranged an estimate two days later. Ernie Shifflett came out, remembered our property, and was surprised at how much our old oak trees had grown in the last years. He gave us an estimate and said the schedule was backed up but Kim would call and arrange a service date. He assured us that even though we had a lot of branches to come down it would be safe to wait a few weeks and if he didn't think it was safe he would rearrange their schedule. On the appointed date they arrived right on time. They put a tarp on our pond (our fish thank them), made sure our plants were safe, and went to work. They checked with us to see if we wanted a few of the "iffy" limbs down and took down those that definitely needed to come down. They mulched and removed everything and did an amazing job of cleaning up and leaving everything in the yard the way they found it. Trimming, mulching and cleaning up with three huge oak trees took just about four hours of hard, non-stop work. The company is family owned and run. The crew is amazing. Definitely recommend. read more

Shifflett tree service is a family run business that is reliable and does quality work. I had a tree that had not been trimmed in about 40 years and was about 4 stories tall, and they did a great job of making it look like a tree again, and I am hoping I can spend much less time picking up sticks and branches. They also cleaned up lessor problems across the yard. They were on time, fast and cleaned up the work. They were also flexible, as the date of the work had to be changed multiple times, due to weather and other issues. Highly recommend. read more

I am definately going to keep Shifflett Tree Service in my contacts. I called late afternoon, they were there early the next day for an estimate, and the tree was off my roof and gone by mid afternoon. They left the yard in fantastic condition. Shifflett Tree Service are true professionals and experts in efficiency. Communication was great and they really exceeded our expectations. Great service. Very happy with the work to remove 3 trees. Highly recommend. Price was in line with my expectation.

We had seven trees that we had to trim. Absolutely fantastic job from start to finish; from communicating the date of service to getting the job done as agreed. The crew was thorough and took extra care to make sure any adjacent fences, property etc were not damaged during the process. After, they cleaned up and left the property as they found it. Last but not least, their prices were competitive. If you are looking for a professional company to help with tree services, look no further. Very pleased with their service. read more

These folks are absolutely awesome. Last night a storm took down a tree at 5pm. At noon the next day the tree was removed, the yard raked, the driveway blown off and a very dangerous limb dangling in another tree removed. They are coming back next week to clear up the non emergency tree service needed. You wont be sorry if you call on Shifflett Tree Service. read more

They were supposed to do an estimate for tree trimming, the gentleman showed up with no mask. When I met him in the back I offered him a mask and he refused. I told him I had asthma and him not wearing a mask kill me. He said "I work outside, that's not for me, I don't do that" even after I told him about my medical condition. I felt horribly disrespected and at this time the mask mandate is still in effect. I can't say that they don't do a good job, I wouldn't know because I would never hire a company that doesn't care about their customers safety. I asked him to leave of course. If you choose to use this company you need to know that if you're going to have an estimate done they do not mask when entering your property although it's still the rules of Montgomery County that they do. read more
