I recently had Chapingo Tree Care over to our house in Cleveland Park where they removed two Privet Bushes and trimmed a few other trees on our property for us. All the work the performed was excellent and they took a lot of care in trimming the trees to make sure they look great, especially our boxwood in front which had grown entirely too large. All the communications from them were very clear and they actually were able to perform the job earlier than originally scheduled- which was amazing! Their prices for services were more than reasonable and we'll be using them for all our tree management going forward. read more

I am writing this review regarding my experience with Chapingo Tree Care Service (CTCS), located at 3558 Worthhington Blvd., Frederick, MD 21704. My Homeowners Association hired CTCS to remove a massive mature tree located behind my property. While the tree was safely cut down, the work was left incomplete. The large tree stump was not ground down, and large logs, limbs, and debris were left approximately six feet from my patio door, creating an unsightly appearance in my backyard. What concerns me most is that the logs and debris from the same tree that were behind my neighbor's property were moved farther back into the wooded area, while the debris behind my property was left in place. When I questioned the tree care manager and owner about this inconsistency, I was told that an HOA Board member instructed them to leave the debris where it was. Although I understand that contractors often follow their client's instructions, I believe a professional company should also take pride in completing a job fairly and consistently whenever possible. Leaving one homeowner with an unfinished result while providing a cleaner outcome for another reflects poorly on the quality and fairness of the service. As a homeowner, I pay HOA fees with the expectation that contracted work will be completed to an acceptable standard. In my opinion, CTCS completed only part of the project and accepted an outcome that left my property looking unfinished. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. While they may perform quality work when directed to do so, my experience suggests they will leave a job incomplete if instructed by a client, even when the result is inconsistent and unfair to the affected homeowner. read more

I couldn't be happier with the results I got using Chapingo Tree Service. I hired them to trim some large limbs on the perimeter of my property this summer. They did a fantastic job, were easy to work with, professional, and clearly care about the work they are doing. I chose them because after getting an estimate from Jorge Alvarez, I could tell he would be very communicative and really cares about getting things right. He was very honest with me and we worked out a great deal. They were professional, task oriented, on time and worked to make sure the job was completed on schedule! They were very efficient, and took the time to carefully evaluate how to trim safely with minimal disturbance to existing vegetation. There was a healthy branch that my very disturbed neighbor was convinced was going to fall on her car/ house. My teee was already maintained by a very professional company, my neighbor is so offputtign that they said there sorry but couldn't work with her. Neighbor hired chapingo and spent a stupid amount to take down the healthy branches. The tree is on my property and they were completely rude and also did a horrible job cutting. Our neighbor used Chapingo for tree trimming and I was impressed with their careful approach to her work, so I contacted them to do some trimming in our yard. Jose showed up promptly for the bid and carefully listened to my concerns about trimming enough but not too much! He understood my desire to preserve the health of the trees as a top priority. While it took awhile to get the work scheduled due to rain, the team showed up on time and completed their work early. I observed one small trim that wasn't quite right and they cheerfully took care of it immediately. They have their own crane - which I suspect helps to keep costs reasonable. Many services have to rent one. Also, it looked like they were very cautious about how they went about the work. The office manager Jacqueline was also communicative and responsive. I had a 80'+ maple in my backyard that had just become too humongous for its own good (I remember planting it when it and me were only 3' tall..:). The day of removal was as though I'd called in the military to get that tree out; absolutely incredible and surprisingly large crew of skilled professionals made it look easy (which we know it isn't).. Within half a day tree was gone, stump was ground, and I was beyond impressed to say the least. That was years ago, and I'm about to hire Chapingo again for a few other removal & pruning projects (repeat customer kinda the best endorsement). TLDR - they missed three appointments, when they finally showed up they were 2.5 hours late. There was no proactive communication from them updating me throughout the process of trying to get them to show up. The details: Missed appointment #1: My first scheduled appointment was missed. Even though I inquired that day to ask about the status, and was told a crew would be there, no one ever showed up. There was no proactive communication from Chapingo letting me know. They said they "were way off schedule due to some recent rain." Missed appointment #2: I was rescheduled for the next day, adjusted my work schedule to be home, and then that appointment was missed. There was again no proactive communication from Chapingo to update me. I had to reach out and was told I would absolutely be the very first appointment on Wednesday and that the crew would explicitly be told to come here first. I adjusted my work schedule for the second time to be home. Missed appointment #3: The appointment on Wednesday 11/5 was missed. Again I had no proactive communication from Chapingo letting me know. I had again made adjustments to my work schedule to be home. I then worked with their scheduler to set the appointment for Friday. So for the third time I adjusted my work schedule. Late arrival: I was told the crew would be here between 12:30 - 1:00. They arrived just before 3:30 pm. I had requested some consideration on my invoice given that (1) there were three missed appointments, (2) they were 2.5 hours late when they did show up , and (3) I was terribly inconvenienced by having to adjust my work schedule three times. The discount I expected was, at a minimum, 10%. The discount given? 3% equal $13....or in other words a discount of $4.33 per missed appointment. Needless to say I was far from impressed or satisfied. read more

Experience couldn't have been better. Chapingo took down two enormous tulip poplars in a very tight space, doing most of the work on a very worried neighbor's property. The cleanup was immaculate! The stump grinders did a superb job with a stump that was difficult to access. They had to uproot and replant some plants in order to do the job, which they did with great attention to the concerns of my gardener wife. A most enthusiastic recommendation! That's my review for the first time I used Chapingo. I gave them five richly deserved stars. Not so for my most recent experience. I had Chapingo out to grind down two stumps. The timing was critical, because the job depended on the cooperation of two neighbors and it had to be done before a fence was to be installed two days later. The job was to be done on a Monday. When the crew hadn't shown up by 4:00, I was concerned and called the office. When I called they said they couldn't do it that day, so they'd come out on Wednesday. When I explained that the fence was to be installed on Wednesday, I managed to get them to agree to doing the job on Tuesday. At 8:00 that Monday the crew showed up to my surprise, saying they couldn't do it on Tuesday so did it that evening into the darkness. BUT, they left two giant, unmovable stumps on my neighbor's front lawn and a pile of debris on his side of the fence. The crew told my neighbor they'd be back to pick up the stumps the next day. That didn't happen. Eight days later after emails and phone calls -- I've forgotten how many -- the crew picked up the stumps, leaving a circle of brown grass in the neighbor's lawn. The stumps were gone, BUT the crew said they weren't told about the debris. They told my neighbor another crew would be by to take care of it. An email to Chapingo about this concern went unanswered. It's been another week and the job has still not been completed. Because this is on my neighbor's property, to make sure the job is actually done, I'm going to have to pay my landscaper to do the job. Communication and reliability on this job, 1/2 star. The grinding itself 5 stars, and I DID appreciate the company doing the job on overtime to accommodate the fence company, even though there were many anxious moments before getting that to happen. As of this writing, my final payment to Chapingo is still pending, so the situation remains unresolved. I am disappointed I have to look elsewhere to resolve it. read more

I recently worked with Chapingo Tree Care Specialists to remove four small trees on a steep hillside in my backyard and was very impressed with their work and customer service. We actually scoped the work last autumn and agreed that the project should be delayed until this spring. When March arrived Chapingo reached out to me as promised and we easily scheduled the work. The crew arrived promptly, was courteous, and was flexible as our needs had changed a bit since the autumn. The work was done quickly and professionally for a fair price. I love this company so much! We have been using them for years. Their prices are very reasonable too. I have a huge pine tree in my backyard--the owner told me he would cut 25% of the tree off. I was confused and thought that would just be off the top. I have to admit I was a little disappointed--not his fault--I just wanted the tree gone. DO NOT USE CHAPINGO! They are dangerous and very unprofessional. I used them twice. The first time to trim some trees that were very close to the house. I should not have accepted the fact that they were extremely careless as many branches hit the house when falling almost breaking my outdoor light fixtures and scraping the windows. I tried them one more time to cut down a large tree. They were to stack the wood and leave it where I could split it for fire wood. Well, the first day they showed up and said they couldn't do it. The second day they cut down the tree and left the pieces exactly where they fell. No attempt to control where they landed. Also, several surrounding trees had their branches broken as result of the cut down tree. I had to call 4 times to have any schedule to come back and take a look. The wood is still all over the backyard. Its been over 2 weeks and still not completed. I definitely will never use them again. read more

Last used them nine years ago to trim back trees in our alley and in the back of our house -- so things were a bit overgrown. Lots of looming branches over our car on our parking pad and incursion into a neighbor's yard. They came out, were able to work within a tight time frame I had due to upcoming travel, and did an excellent job at what struck me as a not unreasonable price. I wd like to amend my "poor" review of Chapingo (from 5/20/2022). I got a very polite follow-up phone call from an employee to arrange for removal of the big pieces of tree-trunk left in my driveway. Although I subsequently discovered that the small shrubs Chapingo had moved (in order to get tree-removal equipment on my property) were re-planted in the wrong spots, otherwise they did a great job...promptly and for a reasonable price. Accordingly, I wd highly recommend you consider Chapingo for tree-removal: the "big work" was well-done...so my advice is just to make sure you have an understanding @ the details. read more

Chapingo did major work for us, including pruning a dozen branches from a massive copper beech that had never been cared for. They did exceptional work. They removed large limbs on a maple over our roof and removed several dying trees, including grinding the stumps. As a bonus, they moved a tree swing on the beech to a thicker branch. While removing a tree, our privacy fence was damaged. We have no issue with the damage caused -- it happens. However, how the Chapingo representative handled the situation was not acceptable. The individual twice denied the crew onsite caused the damage, saying it was "impossible." The crew took down a 100-150 year old tree and several other trees. The job took several days. They were neat, meticulous and careful in all their work. I see all the 5-star reviews are a few years old. I believed in this company for so many years and referring so much business to them. Now; it's becoming like a totally different company perhaps new management. Exactly the same Job as last year; they quoted twice as much. I needed the job done so I agreed; then they wanted me to pay 20% deposit which I did $56 (whereas a company doing thousands of dollars of foundation work said no need for the deposit) They promised the job to be done in the past week and latest by 3pm today Saturday as I have some other work starting Monday depending on this tree being removed. And no one shows up all day and all their phone are shut down because they are closed. I cannot believe any business being so irresponsible let alone a company I trusted and recommended to many for last several years. Terrible disappointment. Just had these guys out to my property again; they did another great job. They trimmed about eight feet off of more than a dozen Photinia, removed another Cypress that wasn't making it, pruned three Crape Myrtles and, for a modest some, I added the removal of a branch from another tree that is much, much larger. Jose, the arborist who came to look at the work, inspired confidence. The team of six who did the work were hard working, efficient, and personable. they showed up twice unannounced when not even scheduled. They did work on our next door neighbor's tree and did not request access to our property but took over the whole driveway. They let large branches free fall from very high up and left our gutters a mess and refused to replace the damaged gutter, which was relatively new and previously undamaged. The crew that came to prune my trees was great. They really new their stuff. The young man who actually did the cutting made the squirrels jealous the way he nimbly climbed through the tree limbs. I had high hopes for Chapingo but have been disappointed so far. I am not sure how they have a five-star rating on Yelp. 1. I asked them to let me know when they arrive so I could leave work real quick and make sure they understand how I wanted certain bushes/smaller trees trimmed. That never happened. 2. I left work to see if the workers were at my house and they were. I then went over how I would like those bushes/trees trimmed and to call me 10 minutes before they were done so I could confirm that it was to my liking. I never received a call. Not to my surprise, these trees were not trimmed to my liking. An estimator came out on Monday of the following week and agreed with the poor work would be fixed during the week. This has not been resolved yet. 3. They did not communicate that the stumps would be removed on a different day. 4. I was supposed to have four stumps removed, and when they showed up they only ground-up 2 of the 4 stumps. One of the stumps they "Ground-up" still has roots sticking out of the ground. 5. When they came the first time they left the gate open to my backyard. I am glad I checked as I have a dog. They also removed my downspout extension and did not put it back even though they said they would put it back. I am glad I checked or else my basement may have flooded! I will be going with someone else next time I need my trees trimmed! read more

Everyone from the receptionist to the two crews that serviced my house over two days were professional, courteous, and pleasant. They arrived at the house a bit earlier then the scheduled time both days, which was great. They performed all the work we discussed, and then gathered and removed the debris from my yard. Fantastic! We had a large maple branch (literally the length of our house) come down on our roof and yard during a storm. We called Chapingo based on neighbor recommendations. They were at our house giving an estimate less than a half an hour after we called, then they came back the same afternoon to do the work, and they had everything cleaned up and additional weight taken off of the same tree less than eight hours after we called. Chapingo does it again! I had a large maple damaged in the wind storms earlier this year and also had an old fruit tree that needed to come down. Not only did they perform the work quickly, they also cut the useable limbs into firewood lengths and policed the area so tidily that I think it is neater now than when they started!
