I love ramen and this is probably my favorite spot in Columbus. We eat here fairly often and I almost always get the same thing: the shoyu paitan ramen. (Auto correct made that sentence a real challenge.) my husband has gotten several of the other broths and of course we've tried the pork sammy and the bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms as well, which my hubby has asked me to make at home since several times. The broth is always consistent and fabulous and they have the best pork belly I've had in the city. The inside is small so seating can be a challenge on a busy night but luckily the owner caved in to allowing to go over covid and hasn't gone back so far. Though I do like the dark and low key vibe--it feels like they'd do well with more alcohol choices. Anyway, definitely give them a go and you can't hurt getting some chicken next door either! read more

I have been to several different ramen places around Columbus, and Meshikou is hands down the best ramen restaurant. I travel a lot for work and always try to eat at a ramen place if I can. This is my go to spot when near Columbus. The restaurant has bar seating that is in front of the kitchen where they make the food. There are also other high tops and regular tables. The service is extremely quick and always comes out hot. Now I have been here several times and have tried a lot of their appetizers (takoyaki, gyoza, any of the fried chicken, bao buns, firecracker shrimp). You can't go wrong with any of them. Meshikou Ramen and Meshikou Chicken are right next to each other. Ample parking out front. Salt and pepper calamari. Lightly breaded seasoned calamari. Pretty standard. Meshikou Karaage. I didn't think you could mess up fried chicken, yet this was the first time my fried chicken came out raw. This dish does come with a spicy sauce, but opted for mayo. Karaage ramen. Wouldn't have ordered the Karaage ramen if the chicken was going to be raw so the fried chicken was removed from the ramen bowl. The Mala Veggy ramen, on the other hand, was fire!! The presentation was excellent and the soup was so flavourful and spicy - looove it!! Meshikou cheese ramen. Not sure what the creamy cheese sauce was, but the taste was weird. I'm usually not an appetizer person because I'm a cheapskate, but after trying this, I think I'll have to get it each time we come back. After trying the fireball paitan ramen, I concur with other reviews that it's not actually very spicy. My partner and I also didn't think the flavor of the spice blended very well with the broth. It's nowhere near as good as the Meshikou Black in my opinion, so I recommend getting a different ramen. Coming here was a pleasant experience for both my husband and me. We love to try new places not in our normal routes. We were in the northeast and googled bethel road restaurants and found this place and what a gem. The place was noticeably small or quaint depending on your prospective. At 2:00 pm on a Tuesday afternoon, for us it was quaint. We were seated right away, which was nice for us. We later asked our server what would be the best time to come with the rest of the family and she recommended not to come on Saturday. That's the busiest time for them. I thought the server was very kind to realize that it would be unpleasant with kids waiting for a table in Saturdays I loved their honesty. We had two appetizers, both good. The spicy mango wings were spicy to our liking and the octopus bits were delightful, delightful as well. The serve was fabulous and when we ordered she guaranteed us that a non pork substitution was easy for both of the ramens we wanted. The substitution for spicy miso and the spicy ramen were great with the fried chicken pieces. We are planning on returning when our family comes into town this summer. Our children and grandchildren would love the food and the experience. The only ding would be the size. Warning others that it's small would be helpful. We were lucky because we came at an odd time. The place is pretty small inside, but food comes out fast and tables turnaround fast. We started off with the Salt and Pepper wings, but I wanted to try so many other appetizers! (i've been many times) but if i were to rank and compared to like tensuke? i think tensukes a bit more like japanese while this can be an attempt. but i think this is the best one can get in the middle of ohio. its an attempt because it's similar to fukuryu. like i couldn't taste a difference which is a red flag for me. so they both have thick broth. it tastes fine, nicely salted, can tell that it's broth made over the span of days. it's cool that meshikou has two types of noodles. however the wavy noodles from meshikou are more like store bought egg ramen. which knocks off stars for similarity and not thick, handpulled ramen noodles which i assume is their straight noodles? i didn't get to try straight noodles. if ya want to be more authentic? don't add naruto, udon uses naruto, not ramen. or corn? or spinach. if you do, like at least spice it up? like it looks like they just threw boiled coin and spinach?? the karaage is like popcorn chicken, again topped with maybe an aioli ? can never go wrong with it. i believe i went with a friend who can't eat pork and this was the only option so if they can add something that omits pork, that would be real cool. again it's decent for ohio. read more

The place is typical of a small hole-in-the-wall ramen stop so space is limited. There were clear partitions for the area so people could be in there separate spaces. I settled for the Shoyu Paitan Ramen with the braised pork tenderloin and it was placed in separate bowls so I had to heat and combine them which was not bad at all! For parties of this size, only bar height tables are available. The place is tiny so be prepared to be cozy with your dining neighbors. A tiny ramen bar that seems to be winning the supply/demand battle by being packed. You can sit at the bar and watch the ramen being made, which always inspires confidence. I got a tea and was rewarded with a good-sized pot of genmaichai (tea with roasted rice, which adds a wildly different flavor note). My mala veggie ramen had a noticeable Sichuan pepper taste, which is to say an astringent quality that very much feels like you're eating a bush. This sounds unappealing I admit, but when combined with the indulgent savory and spicy flavors, it produces an intriguing clash. I got maybe the slightest hint of a tingle in the mouth, but not the full-on numbness you get from a high dose of the stuff. Nonetheless it was a large and delicious bowl, with every topping shining such that I would struggle to pick the best. The noodles themselves had a wonderful bouncy texture, the tofu was perfectly fried, but the mushroom shreds, greens, and corn (don't ask me why the Japanese use such an American plant) all made their case. If you want a vegetarian one that isn't bright red in hue, there is one of those too. The place doesn't have a huge vegetarian variety or anything; most of these places don't, but they do seem to take their veggie ones seriously, and I think you'd search long and far before finding a better ramen than this. read more

I so badly want to rate higher than 3 stars, but my heart just wasn't into the ramen! :( I will say that our appetizer of KFC wings were absolute fire though. The sauce was deliciously sweet and the chicken had an excellent crunch. I would absolutely eat two orders of those as a meal for myself! As for the ramen, I had no idea what to get. The presentation was nice and it smelled amazing. I went straight for the tenderloin, but was really disappointed in the flavor. It tasted bland. Nothing special at all. The fish cake wasn't my favorite either. I'm not sure how to describe the flavor. It was odd. The broth and noodles were good, but overall, the bowl was a miss. I'll just start off by saying the reason why I give it 3-stars is because of the service. Everything else was pretty good. This place is notorious for long waits since they do not do reservations, however we got lucky and only had to wait about 15 minutes. They have about 5-6 tables and about 8-9 bar stools so it can get congested if you go at a busy time. It's dimly lit so can still give a personal ambiance for your table. For appetizers, we got the K.F.C. Wings and the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. These were fantastic! The wings were very fresh so they were quite hot, but the crispy texture, seasoning, and drizzled sauce was perfect. At first the shrimp was pretty average tasting, but after 3-4 pieces the flavor really started to settle in and had a great savory taste. I got the Meshikou Black and my friends got the Spicy Mala ramen. We each got sides of the Chicken Karaage and one of us asked for hot sauce, which they didn't have but offered hot oil, which we ended up ordering as well (I'll get back to this). All of the entrees were outstanding. The noodles were perfect and the way they absorbed the broth, amazing. All of our ramens were loaded with chicken so no complaints there!! Overall, the food was delicious! Now, the service. Our waiter was kind...but at the same time seemed incredibly irritated with us for an unknown reason. We tell him we're ready to order and he pulls out his notepad and we're not sure when he ready and then he looks at us and kind of shudders his head trying to tell us he is ready, that's fine. But after giving him our orders he just walks away no confirming, not saying anything, nothing. We got the food quick, but he was kind of dropping the plates on the table..still not sure what made him so mad. He was walking pretty fast all over the place so maybe he was having a rough day, who knows? But he was giving a very angry vibe to the point where we were almost intimated or scared to ask for my water or even the hot oil we have ordered but never got and still got charged for. When Menya Ramen in Dublin closed over a year ago, I was heartbroken. My favorite ramen place in Columbus was no more! Thankfully, Meshikou was able to fill the void. I had tried Meshikou a number of years ago and was not impressed, so I never really went back. But then I visited again recently after hearing some of my friends saying it's good, and I've been coming back ever since! The ramen is consistently good. My go-to is the spicy miso paitan ramen which has a good amount of spice to it while still maintaining an excellent miso flavor. The ramen egg is always on point! The Meshikou Black is also a great one to try since there is just so much flavor in that broth. I've also gotten their karaage rice bowl before and it's pretty good though a little bit plain. There's better chicken karaage elsewhere in Columbus but it's still delicious. Service is a consistent 4/5 for me with attentive servers who aren't overly pushy. Price is also fair for Columbus, in my opinion. If I had something to complain about, it would be that the lighting is too dim. Makes it difficult for me to take good pictures of my ramen...haha. Huge ramen fan and have been on the hunt for the best ramen place in Columbus. This isn't my favorite, but it definitely fills the void when you're craving ramen. Ordered the spicy miso ramen, spicy mala ramen, and chicken karaage as an add-on (note: this is half the price of the appetizer and you get slightly less so it's a great way to try it without committing to a big side of it). I really enjoyed the chicken karaage! It was perfectly crisp so I really liked the texture and flavor along with the dipping sauce. I didn't care as much for the spicy mala because the spicy sauce flavor was too overpowering to really taste the broth. I liked the flavor of the miso ramen, it's super rich and filled with umami! The corn was interesting...never had that in ramen before, but it works. Another Yelper suggested this place is just like Fukuryu...and let me tell you, it's not. This place is definitely a step up from Fukuryu (I won't ever go back there) but I'd love to come back here to try a few more dishes like the yuzu mazeman and Meshikou black ramen. read more

Ok I'm always looking for a standout wing spot, and surfing on Yelp I found it!! You MUST try the KFC WINGS!! No not Kentucky Fried, Korean Fried Wings served crunchy, hot and cooked perfectly. I can't describe the sauce, maybe the best General Tso sauce ever but lighter. When you try this amazing combination of crispy, sweet and savory, you'll be sold! Very attentive staff and if you sit at the bar type seating, you'll be able to watch your wings being prepared. I believe many people know about this place because it is always busy. If you don't mind sitting at the bar you'll get seated quickly. I did try a Salt Peppers style of the wing which was also good but my favorite is the KFC by far.
