I'm so proud to be a Mass Aver. The plethora of great dining options on the Avenue plays a large role in this neighborhood pride I boast. Mesh is a great example of the vibrant dining scene. I was a little nervous going in tonight as I was clad in spandex and an oversized flannel reserved for painting (or whenever the hell I feel like being lazy/comfortable). The host and waiters didn't seem to blink twice. However, we were seated in a the back..in a dark corner... but maybe it was because I'm a redhead? Yeah, that must be it. Whatever it was, I wasn't bothered a bit. I'll second my fellow yelpers reviews noting on the tasty bread - warm, fluffy and deliciously sinful red pepper-infused oil. I should have tried something new, but I was having one of those nights where I couldn't make up my mind - so, I opted for the spinach salad with a juicy slab of pork on top. Yeah, pork on a salad - little different, eh? Different - but delicious! The salad consisted of arugula, spinach, candied walnuts, green apple slivers, little white cheese chunks (maybe a mild provolone? not sure), pesto and a light vinaigrette (not swimming). The salad was probably big enough for two meals, but who am I to hold back? I ate the whoollleee thing. Practically licked the plate clean. Our waitress was borderline unfriendly. Went to mesh on a rainy Sunday around 2 PM ready to FEAST after a night out. My friend started with the BLT eggs, presentation was lovely, but overall she felt they were just good. I ordered a chocolate milk to begin and although most people aren't coming here for a chocolate milk, it was delicious! Perfect amount of creamy. Anyways, we then dove into the restaurant's soups. I got the Tuscan Bean Soup and it was pretty good! Not the best I've had but I was satisfied. What did surprise me was that there was a lot of bacon in it which they didn't mention to me or on the menu (beware vegetarians). My friend got the Lobster Bisque and once again gave it a pretty good, but she was hoping for more and bigger lobster chunks. For our main course we both got the mesh salad, which sounded great as we are both beet fans and are all about the goat cheese. The salad was very average. Barely any beets, and wished for more goat cheese/quinoa... a little upsetting but it wasn't awful by any means. I also got chicken on mine which was a wee bit dry. I'm from Boston so I won't be back, but my friend who is from Indy would maybe give it another try for dinner. Overall service was about 2.5 out of 5 as it took a while for our items to come out with very few people in the restaurant. As much as I'd like to give a better rating, the service was absolutely terrible. The hostess was nowhere to be found for at least 5 minutes after we walked in the door, it took the server probably 10 minutes to greet us, and it went downhill from there. We watched our drinks sit at the bar for minutes before we got them, out appetizer came out at the same time as our first round of drinks, and our server was a ghost most of the dining experience. I'm also pretty sure the thermostat was set at 95 degrees because it was hot as hell the entire time. Mesh, a classy establishment with overall unique dishes. Our hostess was quick and sweet. Our server the same. She was so helpful and patient as we decided what we wanted. We ordered simple; calamari and lobster bisque. Both very good, BUT I want to touch more on the lobster bisque. TO DIE FOR! To give you the closest example so can...it's like have a hole piece of tender lobster in the perfectly seasoned butter with not an overbearing taste and sipping it down! Seriously this was INCREDIBLE! I've had many and nothing compares to Mesh's. The dessert was pretty good too. As our waitress put it, "pudding for adults." Despite rona ruining life, we were able to celebrate my eldest daughters birthday!!! Food was excellent!! I had the fillet with scallops and asparagus, wife the same daughter went with just the scallops and son in law had the fillet as well! The drinks were - well poured! Wife had the pineapple and rum tropical drink and the rest had manhattans! Yea! Ish was potent! Appetizers was the calamari (sp). Tasty! Oh the warm bread with the tomato basil vinaigrette oil!!! I hadn't been to the restaurant in years so was excited to meet a birthday group for dinner. They were offering the Devour menu which is quite nice. We sat outside on a pleasant evening. Service was great. Timely and engaging. Courses arrived right on time. I started with the mixed green salad. A classic version with bleu cheese crumbles. It was perfectly dressed and delicious. Two others had the tuna nachos. One loved them the other thought they were ok. Several of us had the risotto with calamari, lobster and shrimp. The shrimp had great flavor. Unfortunately the risotto was drastically under cooked with no seasoning. All of us had the same reaction. Another in the group had the filet and said it was fantastic. Shortly after entrees it began to sprinkle. The manager was quick to open a large umbrella and get us covered. Great touch. However, the rain increased and we retreated to the dining room where they found us a table and delivered our dessert. Very accommodating! Chocolate dessert is super chocolate with chocolate chunk ice cream. I sampled the bread pudding and it was outstanding. Next visit I will stay clear of the risotto. read more

I visited Mesh with some friends for lunch. I was seated right away. This was my second time there and this experience was much better the first. Mark was our server and he was fantastic! Very energetic, he knew a lot about the menu, and made great recommendations. We started off with the calamari which was good. It had Asian flair to it; teriyaki type sauce on a bed of cabbage. For my entree, I had the short rib grilled cheese. If you love jams on savory food, this is for you!! The jam was offset by the cheese and the short rib was very tender. What an amazing brunch! My friend and I sat outside for brunch and had an amazing time. My friend is in a wheelchair and from reservation through the meal everyone was gracious and accommodating. I got a Bloody Mary which had amazing garnish & my friend had a mimosa. I felt the Bloody Mary was worth the $9. I got the B.E.L.T. salad minus the E (egg) as I'm not a fan of eggs. Wow! Came here for Devour...it was the husbands choice! For appetizers I chose roasted chicken chowder and he choose potato salad. The chowder was tasty with bits of bacon throughout, but it was a bit salty for my taste! The potato salad was a bed of arugula (sic) with warm potatoes...pretty good!! There is a soft warm loaf that came with dinner. For the main course i choose bass and he choose pork shank. The shank was dry and the sauce was sweet with a bitter after taste...he was ok with it...I declined a second taste. The sea bass had a crisp exterior but lacked flavor. Mesh is such an amazing restaurant, but doesn't always fit into my budget. When I do get the chance to eat at Mesh, I never pass it up! Their lobster bisque soup is hands down the best I've ever had. It's so creamy and the lobster pieces in the soup are generous in size. You can really taste all the yummy goodness. The broccoli and brussels sprouts appetizer dip might not sound like something you'd like but I promise you, you will. It's so creamy and yummy. Just get it. I've had their spaghetti squash and the skirt steak and both are amazing tasting. The only downfall of the skirt steak was the bok choy tasted pretty bitter- not sure if it was the seasoning or if the bok choy was just more bitter than I am used to. I'm shocked I've never reviewed mesh! I've been here many times over the past few years but most recently for a 40th bday dinner. For an appetizer we ordered the calamari which had Thai sauce on it. It was delicious. Fried but not too crispy. For dinner I had the steak frites with the steak cooked medium. The fries came with ketchup and an aoli sauce which was delicious. For desert we shared the bread pudding. It was warm and topped with ice cream. Soooo delicious. They change their menus seasonally but the steak fritas is almost always on the menu. My partner and I decided to enjoy the last of the warm October afternoons by dining alfresco yesterday afternoon. After the experience, I was left with with one question...Mesh, what happened? Synopsis: Front house is on top of things and pleasant, we were seated quickly. Nice! The rear outdoors area of Mesh has always felt like a cozy, yet open little alcove retreat on Mass Ave. Not much has changed, with the exception of a random collection of unused/rejected outdoor dining furniture sort of squished haphazardly into a corner, next to a fence that is either broken/left open because someone forgot to care, lending diners the peaceful and bucolic view of the back alley's overflowing trash cans. It's...not great. Definitely not inspiring. Server was professional and hands-off in a way we generally appreciate, offering new silverware after the appetizer, yet not providing any plates for it and having to be asked to remove finished + dirty plates. This is basic stuff, folks. Appetizer was meh - tasty, but I'm over here looking at the multiple pieces of meat other folks got on their charcuterie boards - we had 2 pieces of 2 different types - 4 total, and my feelings are hurt about it. Entree was cod - on a bed of risotto with some ham, beet puree, and shrimp. The cod was prepared PERFECTLY. Seriously folks, just put it on a plate all alone by itself, let it be carried to the person who ordered it with great fanfare on a flaming platter with 40 dancing virgins throwing flower petals everywhere and eunuchs praying to ancient gods, holding sacred incense, because THE FISH WAS GOOD. I've been burned by restaurant risotto before. Typically, it comes out tasting like the kind of glue toddlers find appetizing. This was edible, but had that nibbly bite that tells you it's slightly undercooked. Oh well. What could have happened here was worse than what actually happened, and that's enough for me. Thing is...the addition of the ham made this risotto ridiculously salty, so salty that eating this makes you long for the rich actual flavor that the ham could've imparted. You might shed a tear if you care about these things. Risotto verdict: FOMO (the Flavor of Missing Out). The shrimp was nice. It's shrimp. Whoever cooked the fish cares about fish. Give your fish person a raise. THE PEOPLE DEMAND MORE BEET PUREE. Sure, it looks pretty, but we need to taste it, too - and the dish deserves more balance. The sweetness could have grounded and countered the bold hamsotto, but basically just felt like a swirly garnish, an ingredient - an afterthought. Maybe there was a sale on beets this week. Verdict: Mesh has been through a lot these past 18 months...heck, we all have, but it's still here! The absence of attention to some of the finer details is palpable, but ultimately easily remedied, and worth it - these details are what really and truly elevates a guest's dining experience. read more

Can't believe I've never reviewed this place! I've been here about a half dozen times and have always enjoyed my food and experience. This most recent time was one of the best visits I've had. My husband made reservations but we arrived early so we sat at the bar for a drink and appetizer. My husband got a martini (can't recall which one) and loved it. He never orders martinis so I was surprised he enjoyed it. They have a specific menu with 6-8 options listed. We also got the charcuterie board which was a star of the night. You get to choose what meats and cheeses you would like which I appreciate. We got the goat cheese fritters and honey ricotta cheese along with prosciutto. We chose the minimum that you could choose without an upcharge but there is an option to add more, it'll just cost you. It came with some toasted bread and brown mustard with pickles. Everything in the board was delicious! I could've eaten another dozen goat cheese fritters. We both loved it. When it was time for our reservation we went to the hostess stand and were seated right away. Devour was going on but nothing on that menu caught my eye. I got the wedge salad and crab cakes. The crab cake dish was 10/10. I'll definitely order again. My husband got the lobster Mac and cheese which is not something he'd normally order but he really enjoyed it. It comes with an entire lobster tail. We rarely order dessert but when our waiter described the walnut turtle pie, we knew we had to get it. It was an amazing end to the night. Tonight we ordered carry out during COVID19 quarantine date night. The phone was answered with a friendly voice and the food was ready at the time they said it would be. We had Caesar salads, shrimp/lobster/calamari risotto and the Amish chicken with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. If you're looking for a unique menu well located on Mass. Ave. downtown, I would definitely head to MESH. It has been open for quite some time now and all the times I've been I've always left impressed. The menu items are nothing boring and they specific labels for the menu items such as vegan, vegetarian, and so on. You can ask you waiter in other dishes can be made vegan and they are always super good with going and asking the chef. This is highly appreciated by anyone that has a dietary preference and/ or restriction. The menu prices are slightly high but that's usual for all of the restaurants located on Mass. Ave. My option is that this restaurant is a little more fine dining than some of the other restaurants on Mass. Ave. Parking can sometimes be tricky to find so make sure to plan accordingly. I ordered the curry that was marked as vegan on the dish and WOW, I was delighted. The dish was filled with absolutely stunning vegetables of all colors and the sauce paired perfected. I wouldn't have described the dish as a "curry" dish though in which it didn't taste much like an Indian or Thai dish. I believe their menu may change every so often ( I'm not positive on this though). However it seems this always have vegan and vegetarian options that are far from boring. read more

I don't know how I haven't reviewed Mesh until now! Besides being super convenient, with only being a few steps outside of my home, Mesh has delicious food and amazing service. It really is the whole package! The summer menu includes a spaghetti squash curry, which is wonderful. I have been eating this all summer long! It's a generous portion so ample to share or have leftovers. The ahi tuna appetizer is also a staple we order. Overall, all the dishes are incredible. I recommend sitting on the patio if the weather permits. It is a great space and has a fireplace for chillier nights. Mesh is one of my favorite spots to grab dinner before a nice show at the Old National Center, because it feels classier than your average but it's still affordable -- and of course within walking distance fo the theater! There is something for everyone on the menu, from steaks to great soups and salads, pasta dishes, and a classic BLT. I highly recommend the bread starter, it's delicious! The only sub-par experience I had was when I came here for my graduation dinner and it seemed like they forgot to assign a server to our table. Though we were seated in one of the busiest areas of the restaurant, no one stopped by for quite some time, even to take our drink orders, but once we flagged someone down they were very swift in helping. They gave us our first round of drinks free and put a rush on our dinner order to make sure we finished in time to make our show (Wicked), which we did just in the knick of time. Everyone agreed they did a great job correcting an awkward experience. Was kind of a bummer though because I had made the reservations months in advance and even indicated it was to celebrate a graduation. Like I mentioned, the servers are attentive to the fact that you could be catching dinner before a show. You likely won't have to tell them as they will ask you first. My mother thought it was a little too loud, but we were right next to a large group with young children. Also, I find that there is usually a line for the restroom as there are not many stalls. Con's - the food is pretty mediocre and the service seemed somewhat rehearsed. To start, upon arriving to the host stand the hostess was on the phone. There is nothing wrong with this. That is part of the job. But what she did was take the phone slightly away from her ear and asked for my name, I told her and she proceeded to tell me the table was set up around the corner with menus on it. Didn't offer to take us there, nothing. And went back to the phone call. It was odd. We had a very kind server but a few times when he spoke to the table I couldn't help but feel as if it was extremely rehearsed. I ordered the brussels sprouts dip and the wedge salad. The dip was pretty good, although not my favorite thing. And the salad was set up a bit odd. WHAT A GEM. Okay, first of all the food is top-notch. Secondly, the drinks? To diiiiie for. Most of all though, they offer the space as a venue. I'm saying this again for those cool girls that have their rehearsal dinners at very cool places--THIS IS A VERY COOL PLACE. The second floor offers privacy, and has a beautiful room and second, private bar. The space is stunning, and so perfect for events. I did a little tour (because this future MoH is planning already), and it's a dream and a half. The location is stellar as it's on the northern bit of Mass Ave, which I think has better parking options, but is still close enough to walk to your favorite late night spots. I'd recommend this place for a girls night, happy hour, or work dinner. It's classy, with a good volume, so you'll be fine dining without yelling to the person next to you. read more

We came here for restaurant week and the food was amazing!!! The service was really good too. We started with a bottle of wine from their extensive list. Restaurant week has a prefix menu and you got to choose 3 items. We all tried to get something different and share. I started with the Lobster bisque and it was to die for. Creamy yet so much flavor. My husband got the Kung pao calami as his appetizer. It has a nice kick to it and it was a fun spin on a classic calamari dish. For my entree I got the Amish chicken and my husband got a steak. I loved mine. The sherry cream sauce with prosciutto was the perfect savory and salty combo. He barely shared the steak with me because it was so perfectly cooked which meant it was delicious. For the final course we got the chocolate terrine and orange cheesecake. I am an absolute chocolate lover but this cheesecake blew my socks off. It had the subtle hints of zesty orange sweetness with the cheesecake filling. Yum! Everything was absolutely phenomenal from the service, drinks and food. Visited this Mesh location for the first time today. The Easter menu was a prefix menu, which was fine but not mentioned whe. We made the initial reservation. We were seated upstairs in the event space. Service was really slow and spotty. We had to ask/remind about the drinks ordered and waited for the bill forever. While our servers were veryfriendly, it was just too slow. It was Easter Sunday, but for a prefix menu it was way too slow. Pricing was decent for the menu and wine was half off for Sunday. The food: Appetizers were served family style and the highlight of the meal overall, enough for everyone to try everything and delish, the combo of biscuits/jam with the cheese was tasty. Fried chicken with popcorn grits - winner. I am not a huge fan of greens in general but the chicken was juicy, the grits were so creamy and delicous! Steak and eggs - mediocre. Smaller portion of steak and potatoes than expected. Steak was tough and no steak knife with the plate. Sparse hollandaise sauce with the dish. Banana pancake - we were excited about this when we saw it delivered at a neighboring table, but it was disappointing. Lots of beautiful strawberries, but the pancakes themselves were make with buckwheat or something else and not fluffy and pretty thin and not great. Desserts were also served family style. Bread budding, strawberry lemonade bars, and chocolate tourine. All good, but nothing I would order again. I have been to Mesh in Louisville and it was fantastic. The food overall is over priced and just average or below average. We ordered the mahi-mahi and it was disgustingly over salted. I returned the mahi-mahi, and it was substituted for their signature chicken dish. The signature chicken dish again was not the best thing that I've ever eaten. We particularly came to this restaurant because we knew in advance from their menu that they had a particular type of champagne that we wanted. On arrival, we did not get our champagne that we wanted because they were "out". In addition, our waitress had to be reminded three times that I wanted a cup of ice. The crème brûlée that we had for dessert was ice cold which it's usually served warm, and I did not like that. One of the more upscale restaurants on mass ave but for good reason. My boyfriend and I got dinner and beers and it was SO good. I got the blackened chicken sandwich without mayo and it was melt in your mouth good. It came with avocado and pickled onions. I had the Kirkwood cream ale beer to go with it. It was $20. 5-star ratings are too common nowadays so here's why I gave Mesh a 5. So, I came here for dinner and met my girlfriend's family for the first time. Pretty nervous and I had a handful of "crap-it's-getting-awkward" jokes ready to go in my back pocket. Walked into the restaurant and was SHOOK at how beautiful the interior design was. Simple and elegant as most things in life should be. Fortunately, the food was so amazing and "pretty" most of the conversation revolved around the cuisine and my jokes never saw the light of day! I appreciate Mesh reaching out and letting me come back to enjoy their brunch again on them. It's very thoughtful and certainly shows they care about their customer's experience. Things went better this time. The steak and eggs was plentiful and tasted great. The only thing was my friend's drink was forgotten about until we reminded the staff.
