We recently popped into Mesa Verde for a quick dinner and have to say that the food was pretty good. We got an order of chips and salsa which were great. The salsa is made fresh and it is really "garlicy". For our main course we bought some chicken quesadillas and a burrito which were great. All the food was fresh but the only critique was that the burrito was small for the price we paid. The issue that we had at the restaurant was that the wait staff was a bit "unique". They were having an argument amongst themselves over politics and didn't stop to serve us. When they finished their conversation they were polite but it took a while. Overall, the food is pretty good and the space is great. The staff is funny and it is definitely an experience when you come to this store. read more

One of the best places in the Valley. My favorite item on the menu is the lime bowl. Chips are always fresh. We have a lot of out of town guests and I always send them to Mesa. My union organizer friends in particular love the place. It's a comfortable hang out for lefties. Though it's a place for everyone. And it was awesome to have group size burritos when we were negotiating the nurses contract. Actually Mesa Verde is why we won a great contract at Baystate Franklin. Any time I am in Greenfield I stop here. The food here is always fresh and consistent. Counter service and food delivery is fast and friendly. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Their chips are locally made, thick cut and can stand up to hearty dipping. The salsa they make is so garlicky that it will repel vampires for days but its SO good! I have always been a fan of the Cilantro, Avocado, Lime bowl but I add chorizo or blackened chicken. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and although this isn't authentic, its super healthy, cheap, and local. Cant beat it! read more

I should have known better. After a long morning meeting in Greenfield, a friend suggested that I try Mesa Verde for lunch. I hadn't eaten since the night before, and I was starving. I was able to find the place, tucked into the side of a building off of Main Street. There was no place to park, so I parked a block away, and paid for 2 hours. I then walked to Mesa Verde. As I approached the from of the building, I was greeted by a group of junkies who were sitting on the public benches, panhandling. I should have turned around then, but I didn't. I then walked into the building, which is painted in bright "Mexican" green, yellow and orange. I walked up to the counter, where I was greeted quickly by a very nice girl, who stated that it was only her second day here. She was very kind. I ordered the Spinach and Garlic Bowl and an Orangina drink. After ordering, I used the restroom. There were flies and graffiti on the bathroom walls. I should have left.......but I didn't. I then attempted to wash my hands, but the soap dispenser was empty. What's that tell ya? Yep. I should have left. But instead, I sat down and waited for my food. It was brought out quickly, and actually looked good. I took a bite, and thought, "This ain't bad". I then took a second bite. In it, was a god damned reddish brown hair, about an inch and a half long!!! You dirty bastards!!!! I'm soooooo hungry! I immediately brought my food to the counter and showed it to an employee, or owner. I'm not sure. She offered to get me something else. No WAY!!!! You failed. You served me dirty food with hair in it! She then offered to give my money back. I refused. As always, I prefer that you keep my money, and take my review seriously. At this point, I walked out. Now, as I sit in my car writing this, I'm gagging because I keep feeling like a hair is stuck in my throat. This area desperately needs a few quality eateries. Keep my $13. Well I got what I asked for, accept everything was inside the burrito wrap and it was cold. If you want a better burrito go to Taco Bell and I do not consider that as Mexican food. This restaurant is straight up appropriation of Mexican culture. I had high hopes entering, but by the time I left I could easily say this is the worse "Mexican food" I've ever had in my life. The setting and artwork was cultural, making me expect authenticity. When I tell you I am POSITIVE the beans came from a can, it is no understatement. The chicken tortilla soup was also from a can. It tasted like a bad combo of canned crushed tomatoes and canned enchilada sauce. Cold food. Unseasoned. If my abuelita came to this restaurant and tasted those beans she would throw it in the owners face. You cannot have Mexican artwork and serve beans from a can. That, mi amigo, is appropriation. The food is good. The vibe is fine, the staff is friendly. But...this is not central American food. It isn't Mexican food. It isn't authentic in any way or melding any kind of fusion. This is straight up white people tacos. One time we ordered carne asada and got ground hamburger meat. And I get that Greenfield needs that I really do. The legit places in town have told me they have to tone it down for the locals. But this place is pure vanilla. I guess vanilla is necessary sometimes and it is just fine. But not my go to. Hit up Posada, Cielito Lindo, or Cucina Lupita if you want the real deal. read more

Ok, I work very close to here and consequently have been many times. Can't say I'm a huge fan, but not a lot of choice in Greenfield. Firstly, they do not have salsa verde. For real, and it's called Mesa Verde! If you have a hankering for enchiladas look elsewhere. Not only no green sauce but you only get two pinner wraps. I hear the mole is good but that's not my bag. The burritos are rather bland California style size of a football but all filler. The tables are often dirty. The tacos are OK, my go to dish is blackened chicken taco, which take 20+ min BTW. Should call ahead but often they don't answer the phone. My wife says the mojo pork tacos are ok. If you're stuck in Greenfield it's all you got, otherwise drive to El Camilitio in South Amherst. read more

I love this place and I wish I could eat here every day! Great vegan options. My favorite burrito or burrito bowl is the thai tofu which doesn't come with dairy anyway! Score! Just tofu in a spicy peanut sauce, cilantro, rice and beans and tomatoes and lettuce. LOVE. Plus, it's affordable at only $6.50! They also have very fresh (if a bit small) chips and house made salsa and guac which is outstanding. Every time I've eaten there the food has come out quickly, is hot and is fresh. I've also tried the sangria and fresh limeade. Yum! They have a menu online, but it's a real treat to go in there and check it out. It's in an old church and is a very quirky fun space. Plus when you go in you get to see their colorful wall of specials. It takes some time to read it all, especially because it all sounds really good and that makes it hard to decide. The staff is always really nice and it's always fun to check out their tats when you're waiting for your order. A coworker suggested this place as we were having a birthday lunch. I have heard great things about this place. Today was not a good day for this restaurant. The young man who took the phone order sounded angry and impatient. The meals were very cold, the tortillas were microwaved too long and were chewy, there was little chipotle sauce, minuscule bits of chicken. The coworker used to rave about this place but is disappointed and says she heard the quality of the food had deteriorated and she was sad to see that, with this lunch, that was the case. Guinea-pig sized burritos, delicious Thai Peanut tofu, and anything I want can be had in a bowl and not on a tortilla. The salsa is so fresh I can hear the tomatoes crying. Fresh squeezed juice in the limeade and the Margs. Did I mention the tortilla soup? Soothing and satisfying. The atmosphere is colorful; hip but fun with a comfortable yet energetic vibe. Mid-afternoon on a hot sunny summer day. My sister Renee needed help moving so I graciously volunteered. The deal was, she had to take me for a bite. All that rat poo got my saliva glands going and the sun gave me a thirst. I had just finished cleaning the mouse poop out of crystal sherry glasses when I got a real hungry feeling and my mouth felt like velcro. She decided it would be best if we went to Mesa Verde. Good choice Renee. I loved it. The service was kind and the food ended up being really good. The pulled pork burrito was huge and tasty. There is a real balance to the flavors. The food is good overall. Some items are high priced but, they are good. Parking is not always easy. I would consider this place a bit of tex-mex. Many items now on the menu are mexican in taste with an american style. The guacamole is on the lime flavor side. It always has been. Accidentally stumbled upon this place during a long drive down from Burlington, VT to NYC. I must say, thank you again YELP! I was never expecting to find such great Mexican food in the middle of Massachusetts. The Spicy Chorizo Burrito was the best I've ever had. Everything in the chicken taco was SO fresh and the guac was simple yet delicious. It looks like they converted it from an old church of some sort, so don't be surprised by the fact that you're sitting in a pew. The staff was very friendly, no one seemed mad when I accidentally walked into the kitchen looking for the front entrance. I ordered a grilled chicken burrito with guac- wish it didn't come with re-fried beans and I would like a better tasting tortilla. Mesa Verde is a great place to go to have an affordable meal of good, fresh, healthy food with a glass of local beer or a fresh margarita. The burritos are huge and delicious. The spinach/garlic is my favorite, but the chicken burrito is also good. If you are feeling like something a little different, the thai chicken burrito is really tasty. I also love their chicken and steak bowls, which are basically burritos, minus the tortilla. I had an interesting experience while sitting outside of the restaurant on a picnic bench on a hot night last summer. A man was sitting by himself, rapping and singing Boys 2 Men songs to himself, and asking for requests. The crowd that gathered was fully amused. Ok, so now that I have had more experience with this place: I still love the food. Things that made it lose a star-- I have been here more than once where the seating was full. (Small place, not really their fault.) Regardless a star is lost because I cannot always sit down there if I want to. Lastly-- I loved their fresh squeezed (with lime) margaritas. Last time I was there.... It was the worst margarita I have had. They are now using mixers. There is no way in hell that was fresh squeezed. I make them at home so I am a bit experienced. You could taste the sugary syrup and it was bright green. I vote this as best Mexican Take Out in Greenfield. read more

Wow! Really tasty, healthy-ish Mexican food on the cheap, in Greenfield! Dinner friend and I got a beer (yes, People's Pint beers are cheaper at Mesa Verde then they are at People's Pint), a small but tasty Margarita, a large chips and salsa, a pulled pork burrito and a veggie burrito for $23! Salsa was OK, not a whole lot if it, not that spicy, but OK. Burritos were very good size. Ordered spicy, and was not that spicy. Pork burrito was spicy in a chili-powder way, and veggie was spicy in a hot pepper sort of way. Both could have been spicier, but I think that's more to do with my dragon tongue than a legit critique. I'm generally not a fan of order-at-counter, then bus-your-own-table joints, but so worth it for the price. Will definitely be going back. read more

Only three stars at the moment because while it was enjoyable, it wasn't the taste explosion I dream of when I get Mexican. Take my gringa review with a grain of salt (and a house-made margarita). Ever since Mesa Verde opened in Greenfield it's been a favorite of mine. The prices are more than reasonable for the amount of food and the quality of it as well. I've tried almost everything vegetarian here: the sweet potato and kale and roasted veggie burritos and several kinds of their quesadillas are some of their options. What keeps me coming back, however, is their Thai burrito with tofu. It's a heavenly combination of fried cubed tofu, black beans, rice (white or brown [brown costs extra]), chopped red onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and peanut sauce. It's all wrapped up in a warm soft tortilla (or, if you're like me and OD'd on bread products earlier in the day, you can get it sans tortilla in a bowl). The drink selection is impressive too; they offer Greenfield's own People's Pint and Lefty's Brewing beers as well as the Artisan Beverage Collective's Ginger Libation (from Green River Ambrosia) and ginger kombucha (Katalyst Kombucha) all on tap. Of course, they also provide glasses of homemade margs and limeade for the teetotalers and young'uns. They also have a cooler full of Coke products. All are priced around $3-$5. They're also one of the few places in Greenfield that offers al fresco dining which is welcomed in the summertime. On a final note, I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here. Bring your friends and an empty stomach and you will leave more than satisfied. read more

The staff is courteous, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable of the menu. In addition to that they really seem to remember you and make recommendations based off of previous orders. Last time I was here we decided to eat outside at one of several tables w/ umbrellas on a sunny day and a couple of the cooks came outside their side door (right next to the tables) to have a smoke. We asked if they'd mind moving a little further down while we were eating and they were pretty put off by it. This is really the only game in town for Mexican food in Franklin County. It's not bad, but it could improve. Pro: * The decor is eclectic; the seating in the rear are old church pews (or very good repros), and the windows stained glass from an old decommissioned church. * Food comes relatively quickly (and the staff is friendly and efficient); this is for all intents and purposes a Mexican diner. * The place is very clean. * The food is decent, and portions are okay. They're good about giving extra portions of sour cream. * Prices are reasonable. Con: * The menu isn't as large as I'd wish. * The food is seldom as hot as I'd want, and I suspect heat lamps and reheaters. * Spice levels can be murderous -- one reason we ask for all that sour cream is to cut the spice in (purportedly mild) tacos. It's too bad this place is in Greenfield (aka over 100 miles from my home). Otherwise I would love to try more of their food! Brags (+): Tried the Mojo and Thai burritos. I'm not sure if it's "mojo" like "Mojo JoJo" from the Powerpuff Girls or "mo-ho" like the Spanish word. The former probably makes more sense, but I said "mo-ho"... oops. Both burritos were yum, and the extra hot sauce they gave (you have to ask for it) was also SUPER TASTY and decently spicy. Sweeet. Also under $7 per burrito = pretty good price! Beats (-): Oh yea, remember how I wasn't sure how mojo was pronounced? The Spanish word mojo means "I wet," and my burrito was also a bit too wet and juicy to the point of sogginess.
