Yesterday, I took my Toyota Corolla in for an oil change and to check for what the issue might be with having the engine light on. Andrew Hein, Service Advisor assisted me with all the issues. He came back to me stating that there are several codes coming up pertaining to the Evaporative Canister. He did not want to replace the entire unit without first doing a Perform a Smoke Test EVAP to find the leak. The technician pinpointed the problem. Had to have the removal & replacement of the Fuel Evaporative Canister. He had to order the part. When it did arrive, it was defective. He informed me and called the auto parts store he required a new part. It took a bit longer to get the part due to construction in the area. In the meantime, my blood sugar dropped dangerously low. Andrew headed out to get me a candy bar. It did the trick, otherwise, I would need an ambulance. The entire work got done. He even applied for a discount. Mike Ward was the technician. Very respectful young man. This has been my second visit to this location. I come in from Naperville and highly recommend to the locals and surrounding areas, to make this location, your first stop. I brought in my car to have the roters replaced maybe a couple weeks ago since I knew that was an issue, but after they were done my car started to make a strange squeal sound sometimes. I called on a Saturday and they got me in Monday which is fine, but apparently no one actually put me in the schedule. They still took me this morning with no issue which is nice, but here is where I am upset. When I went to check out the guy Eric was nice and let me know about what they did for my breaks. He then asked for $75 which I paid without thinking much about it. On my way home, I realized it was weird that i had to pay since it was something caused by there work. I checked the digital receipt I opted for and there was an oil change on there! I have 2000 miles left before I needed another one. There is a sticker in my car that shows that and i am sure that the condition of the oil and filter should have been a hint. I called back and Eric was very apologetic and said he thought I said I wanted an oil change too. This is when he mentioned i wasn't originally on the schedule. Here's the thing, if they thought I wanted an oil change, why was it not mentioned at the time of check out along with the other items said about my car and what they did. Several weeks ago I took my car to Merlin Auto Care in North Aurora. I had several things that needed to be done. They did everything at a VERY reasonable cost and even found an extra discount that they passed on to me to make my final cost less than the original quote. I have a 2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum, after taking my vehicle to M'Lady Nissan in Chrystal Lake I took the advice of a friend from church and called up Merlin in North Aurora. My problem was 2-fold, I had a faulty heated oxygen sensor in the emissions system and a problem with my passenger side front bumper sonar & collision sensor that was causing my cruise control to not work. M'Lady reviewed the problem for $200 dollars and came back with a quote of $3,144.00 to repair both items. They also recommended 4 other services that were not requested for a total of $4735.02. This included brakes, brake system flush, Injector service, rear brake job, Tires, alignment & cabin filters. When I first approached Travis, it was because M'Lady had over a 50%-100% mark up on their parts over what Nissan Parts USA was asking. Example: Heated Oxygen Sensor M'Lady price$340.99, AutoZone Price $199.99. The Sensor assembly distance sensor (M'Lady 1061.99, Nissan parts Direct $601.16) and bracket (M'Lady 509.99, Nissan Parts USA $293.25). According to M'Lady I needed a new bracket & sensor. I ended up sending Travis a copy of the quote via email and asking him to give me a comparable quote for his review. Travis provided a competing quote for my two main issues. The pricing was better but not as good as Nissan parts USA/AutoZone so Travis invited me to buy the parts myself and bring them in for installation. On the day of the appointment Travis & team reviewed the suggested services and shot down the brakes & system flush, the injector service. One of his mechanics dissembled the front bumper and showed me the sensor and bracket. There was no damage to the bracket! M'Lady just wanted to throw parts at the problem! Furthermore, the sensor was working, all be it intermittently for 1/2hr to 2hours of drive time before going off. Travis and his team reviewed the wiring harness and found that the clip was broken where it tied into the main engine harness. His mechanic was able to devise a solution that saved me over $1500.00 dollars. As for the heated Oxygen Sensor, it had fused to the catalytic converter and had to be replaced. Travis was able to get the part at a competitive price to what I could buy it for from an OEM distributor. They had trouble freeing the device that caused a significant amount of extra work to be done. The good news is the Merlin team cared about my time. Travis got on the phone and ordered me a rental car so they could order the additional parts & tools needed to complete the repair. I can't tell you how refreshing it was to work with a team that cares! Travis spent my money as if it was his own, looking for the best parts options, being cognizant of my time, and only billing me for anticipated book time. Keep in mind this was a tuff job, with a lot of related issues. He and his team of mechanics involved me in the process the whole way through. Personally, showing me the problems and allowing me to brainstorm with them for the solutions. Having run a diesel shop in the past, this meant a lot to me. Here is one more tidbit. I decided to go with new tires and Travis suggested I reach out to Discount Tires for a quote, so I felt comfortable with their pricing. Who does that??? Merlin beat the pricing! These guys are great! They will work with you through the whole process. That includes the GM & both of his mechanics. Merlin's North Aurora just became my GO TO for auto care! The facility is well kept, clean and inviting. Travis treats customers with respect and takes time to help. He is honest and doesn't try to persuade the customer to do unnecessary work. He has created a knowledgeable, customer-oriented team. They brought me into the shop and showed me what the issues were and explained my options. THEN they reminded me where to find coupons so I could get the best deal possible. They finished the work efficiently and kept me updated throughout so I could plan to pick up my car. Merlin's came up big for me when I was in a rough spot.
