Went to RX Automotive for the first time and had a very pleasant experience. First impressions, staff very professional and the shop is extremely clean. Dropped off my car first thing in the morning and as promised the car was done on the same day. Had the spark plugs replaced and fuel ejection system checked and clean. The prices were good and they did an overall inspection and didn't find any major issues, or tried to sell any additional work. Have taken my car to the dealership in the past and most of the time the car was never done on the same day, charged a high price and always selling another service. (**Note: Please allow us to provide some added context of what led up to our experience with RX. We all are used to seeing the simplistic, "these guys are great!" or "great work, we highly recommend!" types of reviews, and those are just fine. However, I feel with my review in particular here, I MAY in turn be helping some others that may find themselves coming to RX with an extenuating circumstance; dealing with emissions-related issues {or in our case - issues and FIASCOS} for their car and feeling lost on what to do next.) Rewind to @ June 2, 2022 - this was the start of taking our old car to get our emissions tested, and in order to get our yearly license plate sticker, we needed to pass emissions by August. By our own admission, one of our cars is an old rusted beater - a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. While still having a strong motor and smooth ride with only 84K miles, my various years of driving in all weather conditions for my job has severely rusted out portions of the car, to the point where putting tons of money into it just isn't economical. By the second week of December 2022, the last several months of simply "trying to buy our sticker" had turned into a mental and financial nightmare. My light kept coming back on. I wasn't passing emissions. I couldn't buy my sticker. I was able to get a 4-month extension sticker in August, but that was expiring Dec 31. Over several months we had put just over $1000 into the car (emissions related repairs) at 2 other quality mechanics, and we STILL weren't passing. At this point, we assumed we could just qualify for the 2-year waiver. We then kept getting denied for the waiver(?!!), even though we met the monetary requirements and were doing everything asked of us (it was a nightmare - get ready if you plan to try that route). We won't delve into that part HERE, but anybody who wants more details about this complete FIASCO can see our review for "Illinois Air Team - Vehicle Emissions Waiver" location. Needless to say, we were left in a scenario of not knowing what the F to do, so we sought some answers at RX to somehow get our car fixed to PASS emissions, so we could get our sticker. During some of the coldest stretch of weather about a week before Christmas, we took our car in and Diego handled our case. We agreed to a diagnostics, and Diego told us the next day that our previous emissions-related work was just fine, but he had some other options for us. We could either spend @2 grand or more for a new vapor canister part and new fuel lines (he didn't want to do that, given the state and value of our car), OR, just follow some simple advice the next few weeks which SHOULD get us to pass the emissions test. We opted for the latter, even though we had our doubts seeing as we had either failed or been rejected 5x previous after having spent a bundle getting accredited work done. Diego told us to still give this a try - and after we had completed some simple steps for a few weeks, to stop back in at the shop, and he would do a quick scan to determine whether we were ready for (or could pass) the emissions; then he'd send us right there to test again if all looked well. On January 5th on a decent weather day, and after several weeks of following Diego's advice, we did just that. I stopped in with my car and even before we got to the front door, "Les" (I think) came out with the scanner and determined we were all set to go and would almost surely pass emissions. Les couldn't have been more friendly with his demeanor and conversation. Long story short and 40 minutes later, we passed emissions FINALLY on our 6th try there (7 months later)! We can't recommend this place enough given our extenuating circumstance - and we feel many other people may be in situations similar to ours. Diego and Les seem like no-nonsense, down to earth guys who helped us out tremendously when we were in a position of not knowing what to do, or what to spend. Diego answered all of our emails and even called us back ASAP (twice a few minutes even before 7am! - almost in "too good" fashion). If you are hanging on to an old car (for whatever your reasons - maybe sentimental, maybe just financial in these times) - and are having issues with passing emissions (which hijacks you from buying your yearly license sticker, until you pass) and especially if you are then trying to apply for a waiver and striking out (as previously noted - trying this option was a massive HEADACHE for us - it just seems they DON'T want to give these out, and belligerently kept moving the goal post each time we tried) - please come see Diego and Les at RX and explain your situation - they more than likely will be able to help you and offer several options depending on your car/circumstances. Recently purchased an older, low-mileage work van off FB market that I wanted thoroughly inspected and to be put on a maintenance schedule. After finding so many references online and in local FB groups suggesting RX Automotive, I decided this was the place! After an inspection report, Diego and I talked about most pressing issues and decided that a full replacement of brake system and getting my AC back to ice cold was highest priority. My land cruiser had leak in master cylinder, since my land cruiser is old so it's hard to find the part I bought a refurb part and have them install it. They installed it and this newer unit started leaking too and they said the newer unit I bought is faulty as well. That was BS. Plus they charge me to find the leak after I paid them $900 for replacing master cylinder. Other mechanic said it could cost $300 for labor so I got ripped of there. Plus they didn't even did the job right. I took it to the other mechanic and the fitting the put was lose. So they couldn't even install it right. I won't recommend this shop to anyone. Plus the guy who's upfront on the desk is very rude. They need a lot of work on customer service. read more

Rx replaced both catalytic converters on our VW Touareg. 6 to 8 months later, the engine light came back on, so I took it back in for inspection. They claim the fault is elsewhere and not their parts or workmanship. Then they were nice enough to charge me $100 for the inspection. Since then (not even 1 year after the replacement), I've taken it to another mechanic, who I've used and trust from before but is a bit of drive for us. In fact, they said it is indeed the catalytic converters - they need to be replaced. The guys at Rx are kind, but I think we've been mislead and ripped off. I'm no pro, but I know a thing or two about auto mechanics. What they told me is essentially they are not taking responsibility for honoring warranty. Thanks guys. read more

If you want to get work done right on your car I would go some where else. Get my transmission replaced here and when it was in they told me I need a new ptu as well. Ok might as well do it we'll it's in the shop. So after I pick the car up everything is a good transmission is working perfect like it should. So after a month I go do my oil change my self. I get under the car and see a bunch of oil on the Button of the transfer case and all over the sub frame. Was really not happy that they didn't take the time to clean up after they put in a brand new transmission and ptu didn't think it was a leak at that point in time. But then on my second Time doing an oil change and going under the car saw a bunch of oil again and saw that it was coming out of the PTU seal between the transmission and ptu. So I pulled the drain plug on the ptu and found a bunch of metal shavings on the magnet. Hopefully the ptu is not ruined because they didn't put it in right going to have to take it out my self know and see what the fuck up when putting it in hopefully I don't find any more surprises. read more

I've been there one time, in frustration due to lingering issues that the Naperville Infinity dealer was unable to fix - even after several attempts. RX was attentive, prompt and nice to work with, but they went above and beyond expectations, promptly fixing for a very reasonable fee, the current long standing issue with interior body panel problems (that the dealer could never fix). There was no dog and pony show, or effort to upsell on expensive additional services, as seems to be the routine at the Infinity dealership. I don't normally write reviews. I follow the adage, "if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything." I have a lot good to say about Rx Automotive. I am a fan of Rx Automotive. I used to take our cars to the dealers for maintenance. Now I just take them to Rx Automotive. The drive is shorter. The service is better. The parts are the same. And the price is much better. This time I replaced the tires on my Prius. I called for a quote. They emailed me three. Each with a different brand and price point. They recommended one. I did some research on-line. The recommended tire had great reviews. The Rx Automotive price was fair compared to the Internet prices. So I went with the suggested tires. They were able to get me in quickly and were flexible to meet my schedule. When I arrived they got me in promptly and finished in the promised amount of time. They gave my car a check-up and recommended a desperately needed oil change. I waited in their lobby which was comfortable and included WIFI. As I was checking out they gave me a short list of services that were due. There was no pressure to have them done. I like that they know the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. This experience was far better than the last set of tires I bought. I went to a national chain dealer that specializes in tires. They gave me one choice. It took longer for them to get the tires and to get me in for the tire change. Three years later three of the tires had slow leaks and the dealer would do nothing except pump more air in. I did not feel like a valued customer. Rx Automotive doesn't specialize in tires. They provide a full range of maintenance and repair services. Yet in my case they performed better than the national chain tire dealer. I'm confident in my new tires and their service was great. I highly recommend them to everyone. I rave about them the few times that I have been asked, "Where do you take your car?" If you're reading this review you probably need an auto mechanic. Take your car to Rx Automotive. read more

I am so happy to report that my issue has been rectified. I got a call today, and we were able to sort the miscommunication out. The money that I paid for RX to look at my car is being refunded. The discussion aided me in understanding why I was being charged, and we figured out how my not hearing about the charge ahead of time was problematic. I felt as though my concerns were being heard, and should clarify that I did ask that the steering column not be put back together when I picked my car up. I used three stars because I believe this business is "Okay," as the rating label indicates. I brought a vehicle in for a pre-purchase inspection. Pros: --The waiting area is very nice, and a Keurig with a variety of beverages is available. --The restroom is actually clean and pleasant! --The staff were extremely polite and helpful. Customer service was quite good. --When they finished the inspection they carefully went over it with us. Cons: --In their inspection they did not notice that the tire pressure light was on. We later learned (from another mechanic) that this indicated a problem with the TPS which would cost over $100 to fix. I believe that a thorough inspection would have caught this because an indicator light was on. --They did not inspect the condition of the timing belt, but rather told us that it would need to be replaced based on the age of the car alone. We later learned that the timing belt had already been replaced and was in good condition. I believe that a quality inspection would present findings based on the car's condition, rather than merely its age. read more

Recommended a bunch of services that my car actually didnt need (or that were already done) based on age, and not an actual inspection (either that, or trying to get more money from me). My Transmission went out on my car and after reviewing all of the reviews I decided to bring it to RX Automotive. The shop was probably the cleanest that I have ever seen for automotive repairs, everybody from the initial phone call and follow up on when the car would be ready were very helpful. The price was reasonable from checking other shops. The only big negative was when I found a "15% Off labor for ANY service for first time customers" on their website. No * or small print stating anything other or exceptions. When I proceeded to ask about it as I checked out, I was told "Not for Transmission work or tires" Really? Then they need to change the coupon to reflect that. The gentleman did give me a $100.00 off my $2,700.00 bill as he admitted it was definitely a mistake on their website, but the total price was no where it should have been if they honored their coupon as they should have. read more
