Small town cafe set in an old bank. Interesting menu with flavorful option. On street parking nearby. Seems like they have a lot but I couldn't find the entrance. Brisket special for me. Brisket sliced thin in a mess of potatoes and onions fried crisp. Delicious. Turkey melt piled high on cranberry toast with bacon. read more

If you like to be disrespected, this is the place for you. From the moment we walked in, to paying our bill, horrible experience. Waitress was rude! I asked for change, she said okay. Walked away, never came back to the table. Our bill was $36 and some change. I gave her $45. Lol, I guess she thought she did such an amazing job that she was going to keep it all. When I went up to the counter area she looked at me and said, "What do you want?" (In a harsh tone). I asked her for my change back. Tip, yes I left a tip. Do I regret leaving her what I did, yes. I should have left her a penny for the way my daughters and I were treated! So once again, if you enjoy being disrespected, this is the pace for you! read more

Prior breakfasts were good. TODAY, potato pancakes sucked - they were like lightly browned mashed potatoes!!! I ordered the board special which included toast. Oh... there was an up charge, which is on the hard copy menu that I did not get. And, there was an up charge for the half of a teaspoon jam! Also, they don't have applesauce for what they called potato pancakes! Suggestion: order from the menu and be sure to read all the fine print! read more

Stopped in there for lunch on Memorial Day. I had the Italian Philly and it was absolutely amazing!! My wife had the Club and it was also very good. We will definitely stop in again when we're in town! It's pretty small so not a lot of seating, but it's worth the wait! Very small town feel and had great service as well. read more

This place is really cool. It's no wonder it's a popular spot. The waitstaff was really friendly. We will be stopping again for breakfast or lunch. We had a veggie quesadilla for a starter. It was delicious with a nice crispy exterior. The veggies and cheese were melted together. My husband had veggie eggs Benedict and I had a veggie salad which was huge. Our waitress recommended the fried potatoes which were perfectly cooked. The decor is very cool with the historic bank theme. It's clean and comfortable. Stop by and check it out. read more

We loved everything about this jewel of a restaurant in North Branch! Food was absolutely delicious!!

This is an adorable spot for breakfast! It's in an old bank, with the vaults still in the restaurant. Our waitress was quick, efficient, and never let my cup run empty. We were traveling and needed a place to stop for a good breakfast after a terrible night at a (not so) cheap hotel. Merchants Cafe delivered with high marks. Everyone cleaned their plates, including my grandson. Great portions, good flavor, and priced right. It's terrible to pay high prices for a breakfast, when just a couple years ago we could have had a nice dinner for the price we paid. Unfortunately, these businesses have to raise prices to keep up and I understand that. Just order what sounds good, it's worth it here! I had the veggie omelet without cheese, but added ham (i like veggies and avacado) and the had gluten free toast to my surprise! My boyfriend had the French toast with eggs and bacon and my grandson had kids French toast and sausage. Our companion has the two egg classic breakfast. Everyone was commenting to the other at how good the food was. My home fries had a nice crispness to them and lightly seasoned. Our friend asked for crisp hashbrowns and they came out perfect! What a wonderful stop for us! read more

What a great place ! Breakfast was awesome. It was quiet and service was great! Loved all the pictures and history!

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. The place was packed. A giant table was quickly cleared for my husband I. We both ordered salads. The crispy chicken and the Cajun steak. They were huge! Prices were reasonable. The stand out was their house made blue cheese dressing. The server told us most of the sauces and dressings are house made. Our server was happy, was singing to the music. The plates going to other tables looked great; portions were large. You can get a cheeseburger here at 6 AM or breakfast anytime. read more

Merchant cafe is always consistent and has great breakfast. I'm a classic gal when it comes to breakfast bacon eggs hash browns and toast, you can't go wrong. Fast friendly service always at merchant cafe. They are usually pretty busy but we've never waited longer than 15 min to be seated. This cafe is particularly unique because it used to be an old bank - it's very cool. read more

We love this cafe and have been several times; the breakfast is always top notch. Today we decided to ask about the wild rice soup and we're told that it is very good. We were eating breakfast and didn't want it, at that time, but decided to buy a quart, to take with. We just had it for dinner, loved it and will buy it, again. We are camping, in cold weather, and it was so satisfying. Thank you to our waitress, Cathy, for the recommendation. read more

Cute little place. Excellent food. Love the history of the building. Will definitely go back if in that area.

Great food and friendly staff. We (group of 4) ended up sitting at the bar area due to limited seating and there were large tables taken up by 1 of 2 people. That was a little awkward, but beyond that the experience was great. Food was top notch! read more

Great place! Breakfast is my favorite here and it's always good! The staff is wonderful as well.

Came with my husband and son for breakfast. My son had the traditional eggs Benedict, husband had homemade corn beef hash and I had two eggs, bacon, toast and home fries. Overall it was decent. Cute location with nice music. We got food to go. All fries were burned so had that bitter taste. One of us had a cheeseburger that was good. Buffalo chicken quesadilla and melt were good. Fish n chips and fried cheese curds were good. Poutine was NOT good. Burned fries with a not so great gravy and a not great pot roast. I would recommend everything except poutine. read more

My husband and I stopped for a quick lunch in North Branch. The Merchant Cafe is in a historic building that I imagine was a Merchant bank in the past. Beautiful! Interior that makes use of the vaults. We shared a Reuben sandwich with fries. I think the fries were fresh cut. The waitress was kind enough to split our meal. It was an altogether positive experience- quik friendly service, good food in an interesting building read more

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We found this one on a roadtrip via Yelp. So happy we decided to stop there.

Nice, quaint, little 'hole in the wall' style restaurant. Mix and matched chairs and tables, counter seating for one or two. Nice small menu, breakfast all day! Nice to see an old business building being used instead of sitting empty or being torn down. A little history while you enjoy some food! They even have the old bank vault door still installed! read more

Traveling through NB this morning and stopped in for Breakfast. So glad we did. Service was friendly. Unique location in an old converted bank. Wall safe doors were still in use. Now for the food. Delicious! The portions were big! I was told by the server they don't skimp on the meat around here and she was spot on. The sausage patties are handmade, big and delicious. Paired that with 2 eggs and load of hash browns, 4 large pieces of wheat toast. Hubby had the same with bacon and home fries. Wonderful meal for both of us. Highly recommended and will be sure to stop again when we're passing through. Plenty of other options on the menu we'd love to try. read more

Lovely little spot on the corner of Main Street. I ordered the steak and eggs with hashbrowns special and husband ordered the Juicy Lucy. The sirloin steak was lean and moist, poached eggs could have been cooked longer. His burger was great and the fries were fresh cut and yummy. Gluten free toast/bread would be a very nice addition for the gf diners. So I can't give 5 points. Foodwas tasty and served piping hot. read more

Yelped a place to meet family at a central location for lunch, not knowing what to expect. The reviews were helpful in picking this quaint place. It was recently a cold and foggy morning in late July. Go figure! Stopped at Merchants Cafe for breakfast that am. First time because of reviews here had been good. Walked in and you could hang meat in the cafe it was so cold. All ceiling fans going full tilt. Now it's in the mid 50's outside too. We asked can you turn down or off some off some of the fans. Answer is nope! " You could sit somewhere else". Every customer was cold. We talked to some and could see it in others. Many looking up at the fans. When my food came after a 45 minutes in the cafe. I was served my over-easy eggs. "Sorry one yoke broke. Is that ok or do you want a new one?" Why not just redo a not perfect plate when serving a customer? Besides that better eat fast. All food because of how cold and breezy it was in there made all our breakfast cold as he!! before we could finish. You folks need to work on your ambience and service. Will not return. read more
