Stopped by for a late breakfast on our way back to the Twin Cities. Non assuming smaller town cafe that serves breakfast all day. The hit was the French toast. My friend and I visited the People's Cafe for the first time last week. We love local establishments and home cooked food and the People's Cafe did not disappoint. When we walked in, the place was super packed. Our waitress, Cassie, made eye contact, told us she would be with us shortly. And she was. I ordered a hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes. What a surprise to see that it was made with REAL roast beef, not deli sliced meat. Also, it came with DRESSING!!! My friend ordered the club sandwich and thought it was very delicious as well. Wow what an amazing place to have breakfast! My friend and I stopped here on our way home from Princeton and the breakfast we had was so delicious. Great service too - hot coffee right away. We got here around 11:30 on a Saturday and all the tables were full and there were several people in front of us. It was clean and fairly quiet for as many people as there were. As we were being seated I commented on how busy they were. The person clearing the table said they had huge pancakes and really good omelettes. Our waitress was very good and helpful. As soon as she told me the special I knew that's what I wanted (which was an omelette with asparagus, havarti cheese and kielbasa). My husband ordered the eggs Benedict. The hash browns were perfectly cooked crispy on the outside tender in the middle. My omelette was delicious, the cheese was melted nicely with asparagus that wasn't overcooked. There was a bit more kielbasa than I wanted but my husband ate the extra. We noticed the dessert menu and I suggested he order an ice cream and I would get a pie. I got the blueberry cream pie which was good but he ordered the rum cherry ice cream which was fantastic. There were cherry halves in it and it had such a great flavor. This restaurant had kind of a nostalgic feeling like a place I might have gone as a kid. We really enjoyed it and it's in an area we go to quite a bit so we'll be back. read more

The food is always so delicious. It's the best home-cooking type food in Isanti County. It's always busy, sometimes you are standing and waiting for a spot to eat. (there isn't a real "waiting area"). But the service is friendly and the service is usually pretty fast. read more

WE stopped to try out the food. Its a small little cafe in town that has a small old feeling to it. We love hole in the wall type cafes for a quick sit down meal. WE got large portions, and tastey food. WE got there in time before they closed up. but they didn't disappoint. i look forward to trying their breakfast menu. After seeing some of the other plates. they look amazing and delicious. Best fries around the areas. Very polite and friendly staff. and best if when a waitress knows their customers by name and asks if they want the usual. typically it says a lot about about the staff and their length of time too. Man, did I leave stuffed. Time warp into the 50's. Isanti County. Don't imagine that any of my Yelp peeps will ever have any reason to be in Cambridge, MN. But...solid breakfast joint if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods. Got the chicken fajita omelette. It is massive and tasty. Comes with fries or hashbrowns and toast or a pancake. Went with hashbrowns and the pancake. Food overload! The pancake takes up the entire plate! I finished the hashbrowns, three quarters of the omelette and half of the pancake. Total pre-tip with an AJ was a hair over ten bucks. As is not unusual, I was one of the youngest customers in the joint. Group of older guys next to me that seemed to just be hanging out playing dice. It would not surprise me if my waitress has been working here since they first opened. Just seems to be the kind of place where there is low turnover among the staff and the regulars have been regulars for a long time. After I ordered my food, I was worried that they might not take credit cards as I had no cash on me. They have made it to this century in that regard. It was busy on Monday morning and the two servers were running off their feet, so service was a bit slow. Been a few years since I've been here. I like to support local business so decided to have breakfast here.Food was good last time we visited. We came in, they were busy, but not slammed. After 10 minutes of no acknowledgement I grabbed menus from a bin on the wall. I was admonished by a waitress for doing so. Then had to wait another 10 minutes to get drinks and table setting. Another 5 minutes and they took our order. They were not that busy and there were three waitresses so really no excuse for the delay. The place isn't that big. All the staff seemed to be having a bad day. No smiles, slow to fill water and tea. Food when it finally came was as good as I remembered, but doubt I'll be back. I generally write favorable reviews, but I just got a vibe that I was more bother than I was worth. No problem, there are other breakfast and lunch places in town that serve good food and seem to actually want my business. read more

What a fantastic place to eat.! We'd seen the reviews couple of them were really pretty snarky but that was not our experience. Katie was our waitress oh, she was so much fun but also she was really good at what she did. She cringed when I said just order me something, and shows the pork luncheon which was fantastic. I've had a small bowl of cereal like 7 hours before so I was hungry and she said you'll not finish it. Well I did but I ate too much. I grew up in a family restaurant halfway through lunch my wife said this is like your folks this place isn't i? I went yep. Brought back great memories. And while we normally dealt with Katie another server brought us our food and we could see four or five other people taking care of the business. We went here to try it, when I visit my family in Cambridge, I usually go to Every day cafe, but my folks wanted us to try this place cuz the portions are supposedly very large. A large portion of bad food isn't a reason to go to a restaurant. The scrambled eggs were whisked in a bowl, but then fried up and plated as an empty omelet. The bacon was undercooked and hadn't been reheated very well as it wasn't all that hot. And to top it off, the sourdough toast had some mold on it. This is where the locals hang out. Their sign says "Best Breakfast in Isanti County," so I decided to see if that was true. I had their Pancake special - two pancakes, eggs, two bacon and two sausage links. It was good. The pancakes were among the largest I've seen. I couldn't finish them. Very disappointed in today's visit. My mother and I saw on their specials board, they had half a chicken dinner with soup & salad. When the young waitress came over we asked about the soup and salad. She curtly replied, it's soup or salad. I pointed out to her it had the &, so that means both, which we said we've had in the past. She looked at me and said, do you want me to change it to "or". I said no, but I'm sure other people will expect both as well. She once again with a snotty attitude, said, you want soup and salad, I'll give you soup and salad! Like she was doing us a favor!! Not once was she friendly. A couple times when my mother and I were talking, she came by and said, did you want something. We said, no. (Like we'd dare ask!!) When our soup and salad were served, we said thank you. We are friendly customers. When she didn't reply the usual friendly you're welcome like other waitresses reply. So my mother said, you're welcome. She turned and said, what, did you want something. We said no. It was like we were on egg shells. There were only 2 other tables with couples when we came in, so not busy! We dine at all the local cafes and restaurants and we are marking Peoples Cafe off our list. The building has a dingy diner feel to it. Entering through the back alley is somewhat off putting with a tiny sign above the windowless door. There are always tables available. The coffee did not taste good. The French toast was good, although the pieces of bread seemed smaller than most french toast. The batter and syrup were tasty but it didn't come with powdered sugar which is my favorite part of french toast. read more
