Really affordable prices. My friend loved her Bloody Mary. Atmosphere is nice because it is on a lake but typical. Wait staff friendly and accommodating. Food menu is typical bar food but it came out fast. I had the chicken salad and it was ok. Too much yellow cheese and chicken was bland. Should have got what my friend ordered. I was in town for a wedding and locals recommended I stop here before heading back to Texas. The place is right off the lake and provides a great view. I ordered the mac burger with sweet potato fries. The fries came with a marshmallow like dip that was pretty good. But could have been presented on the plate a bit better. The cheese curds were just what I was craving. Service was good, attentive and helpful, especially for someone who was from out of town and had never visited the restaurant. The one complaint would be that I had no cell service here and there wasn't a WiFi network available for guests. read more

I'm giving the 4 stars for the many previous times we ate here. It's always been amazingly. Monday was less than par. The shrimp linguine was awful. The Pasty "No flavor" sauce over under cooked noodles. The every thing baked potato was the size of a egg, no butter came with it. Minimal bacon as well. I'll start by saying the wait was around an hour for our food (4 people on a Sunday afternoon), BUT that was the only negative. We were seated immediately and warned of the wait ahead of time. The table featured old Trival Persuit questions which kept us entertained (and the wait didn't feel very long). I ordered a whiskey on the rocks (rail), their Citrus Salmon and the Spinach Artichoke dip to share. My drink was HUGE. I have never received a rail drink this large before. Be warned lol. The spinach artichoke dip came out PIPING hot with house made chips for dipping. It. Was. Fabulous. Would highly recommend (could also save some to put on top of a burger). Next was the meal. My brother ordered their Hangover burger (breakfast burger with an egg, hash browns, and bacon) with the vegetarian patty. My mom ordered the Cuban sandwich with fries, my dad ordered the Grumpy Pulled Pork with chips and I, again, ordered the salmon. Everything was DIVINE. My salmon was amazing and DO NOT skip on the dinner bun, it was the best bread I've had in a long time. The chips are just as good as the fries, so don't feel like you have to upgrade. All in all, the wait wasn't even an issue and even if it was, it would have been well worth it, I highly recommend. read more

My husband and I were in the area staying at a friend's cabin for a long weekend. They recommended The Grumpy Minnow for a late lunch/early dinner. They let us know right away that there is almost always a wait. We waited close to 45 minutes and were bummed to not have anyone check in / update us during that time or even be at the outside bar. The outside bar had empty plates and glasses at each seat and despite waiting to order a drink as the host mentioned we could, no bartender or staff ever came to the bar. There were a good amount of empty tables the entire time we waited. When we checked in to see where we were, the host gave us a time and then a while later came over and said they messed up and it was our turn. We got seated and ordered right away as we had worked up an appetite. The food and drinks were good, the wait was long, and when we left, the line was to the door and tables almost all empty so not sure if it is a lack of staffing or what but it seems to be a promising location with tasty good but be ready to wait or come at times less busy (weekday lunch time maybe). read more

We have been coming here for some time. Usually good food. However, we stopped in on a Thursday, when they had a Gyro special. I have had Gyros elsewhere, so I ordered the "Special". I have never been disappointed here before, but this was terrible. I got two small pitas, with a couple of pieces of dry commercial gyro meat,some lettuce with tomatoes. it was horrible. I am now sure when I will go back. They should be embarrassed to serve such a menu item. read more

This is a great little place tucked away on Rush Lake. I had no clue about it despite growing up twenty minutes away, and thankfully was enlightened by a friend. But people SHOULD know about it. It's a charming little place year round, perfect for game days, or equally nice for a relaxed night out. Did I mention they have a drive up dock for boaters out on the lake? Pret lake views are definitely welcome. Each day has a food special, and most have HH. It would be a stretch to suggest they're fine dining, although there are definitely some nice things on the menu. I might be a tad obsessed with their chicken sandwiches. Try the sweet potato fries with its marshmallow sauce to dip. You will not be disappointed. Burgers are average, wraps are predictable. A lot of the drinks are served in mason jars, which I'm sure lends to the bucolic feel of the place. In a region where options are limited, Grumpy's is as solid a choice as any. I'm adding an addendum to record possibly one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. I'm only dropping one star because I'd like to think the other pleasant experiences make tonight aberrant. I won't name names or go into excessive detail, but suffice to say absolutely every aspect of the visit, from the moment we sat, was literally messed up. It was supremely disappointing since I was so excited to try Grumpy one more time before I move overseas. They could have easily rectified it in so many ways, but it was an absolute disaster. So for some reason asking for a modification on the menu has become an issue to the point they printed 2 signs and placed them on the door. Now as anti hospitality, such a move is for a restaurant. It's your restaurant do what you want. However, when a lake regular patron comes in with his senior mother and asks that tomato's not be added to stir fry. It's not to buck your frankly flawed system but for food allergy reasons. Its when the waitress say's "hey, your not going to be one of those people,are you?" As we try to explain why the specific need. Frankly after given the server a chance to walk back her comment or apologize for the rant. She dug in her heels further, and telling us she was the owners daughter honestly made it worse. We decided to leave and if not for the nice young gentleman host asking why we were leaving in the parking lot. Giving a what I felt was credible apology for the experience. I might go back, however something needs to change. No modifications and putting a sign on the door. What kind of anti restaurant hospitality operation are you running? You can clearly handle choices or modifications, if you will, as cheese burger gets a choice of cheese. However, under your regime you HAVE TO HAVE CHEESE? There isn't a hamburger choice, so you have to salt my fry's now. It's a very flawed policy especially in the age of peanut, shellfish allergies, some foods you can't have with certain medications. I have frenqueted this amazing establishment on a quarterly basis. Brandy is a new imposter bartender that plays the role well! Don't be surprised if a Beetlejuice imposter drops in. The " squirrel stain"shots are off the menu and off the charts! chipping away Ray-Nay is the most charming pulltabist on the lake. Randy gets squirrelly time and again. I actually was actually quite happy to divulge that Joe is my new best friend! I have to admit that I requested my Lyft to bring me to Applebee's. And this place was so better! Found this hidden gem on yelp when making our way back to the cities. Great local flavor, great prices and wonderful view of Rush Lake! They have dockside service and the food is above average. My husband had a Reuben sandwich that he says is far above average! Service is excellent and James, the bartender was extremely personable and attentive! With all of the trees, lakes and curvy roads I thought I was in Wisconsin. This hideaway is a long way from the nearest town. As other reviews state, they have great food which is rare for a place so isolated. And it's got a great view of Rush Lake. I am not a fan of fish cakes but the walleye cakes were the best fish cakes I have ever eaten. Service, atmosphere and prices were all excellent. Good luck getting here in mid winter. read more

I met my three children here to celebrate a year since my husband's passing. I chose this place due to between the kids & the menu & the view. We were very pleased!
