The entire airport was stuffy and warm when I went on a mid-90s day, and the air wasn't running very well. Unfortunately, the restaurant wasn't much better. It was warmer toward the back by the windows and at the counter. I asked to be seated closer to the exit and had to wait for a seat to open up. Even though I eventually sat under a vent, there was no air coming from it. The food itself was much better! The chicken was moist and juicy, and I really liked the combination of flavors in my dish. The food also came out pretty quickly, which was nice when you're at the airport. The waitstaff was nice and kept my water filled, so the service was good overall. If you're at DIA and want something better than the usual airport food, Mercantile Dining & Provisions is a very solid choice. I had the Kewpie Burger and it was fantastic. The burger was juicy and flavorful, with American cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, lettuce and that Kewpie sauce all working really well together. It's the kind of burger that makes you forget you're eating in an airport for a few minutes. The fries were also very good--crispy, well-seasoned and definitely worth getting. My only complaint is that the portion was pretty small. At $24 for the burger, it's not exactly cheap, although that's hardly surprising for an airport restaurant. What impressed me most was how quickly the food came out. Service was friendly and efficient, which is especially important when you're trying to eat before a flight. The atmosphere is also a nice step above typical airport dining, with more of a real restaurant feel. Bottom line: Yes, it's pricey. But the food is genuinely good, the service is quick, and it's a huge upgrade over most airport options. I'd absolutely get the Kewpie Burger again the next time I'm flying through Denver. read more

Located inside the airport in Concourse A. They accepted my priority pass (not chase or amex related) and I got $28 to spend for free. My husband and i weren't very hungry and ordered the hummus and tomato soup to have as a snack. The portions are super generous. The tomato soup came with a half texas toast grilled cheese and the hummus with veggies and pita. It was more than enoigh for the 2 of us. Service was slow as they were packed but but still friendly. The short rib sliders were fine dining quality meat sandwiched between surprisingly light rolls and a sprig of greens. It was probably a top 3 slider ever for me, especially with that au jus on the side. It was a tangy complement to the main attraction. The servers were nice and attentive. We were at the counter so it wasn't very hard to make sure we were taken care of. The ambiance is good for an airport, but nothing memorable. It was very modern and had lots of room, but almost felt too sterile and impersonal. But what can you do with airport space and their restrictions on blending in with the rest of the airport? I bought the Priority Pass which allows you into airport lounges and the Denver airport had this location as not a lounge but at least a place to eat and get a good credit. Upon arriving, the host told me that the location would not honor Priority Pass if my card was attached to an American Express. Which is was. But she tried anyway and it worked so I was very grateful. I was escorted to a bright and sunny restaurant area and I got my own small table. The seats were pretty close together as this was a small restaurant so I had to hear both conversations of the people at both sides of me. Would have been nice to have more privacy but I get it, it's an airport. The waitress was friendly and checked on me often. Food came out quick and was pretty tasty. I'm glad I got the $28 credit from Priority Pass and now I know where this is located in the airport! read more

Really great breakfast to have before you have to face down the prospect of airplane food! On the pricy side, but within expected airport range. The staff are SO lovely, which is something you don't take for granted when you're travelling and have a higher baseline stress level. The bar and kitchen-side counter have outlets, which is great. One downside: the air conditioning doesn't work. In the high heat of summer, you'll feel it the instant you walk into the restaurant space. If you're sensitive to heat, you'll be fanning yourself with your menu. Have to dock stars for that. read more

Mercantile has two locations right next to each other in Terminal A of the Denver Airport. The first location is to go only. The second location is sit down service. At the to go location a ham egg and cheese croissant is $13.79 before tax. At the sit down location the same item is $22 before tax and tip. (See my photos) Was the croissant good? Yes Is it worth $15? No. More like 7. But nobody cares to regulate airport pricing. The real question is why this disparity between the two locations selling the same item next door to each other. They also stopped making egg sandwiches at 845 AM on a weekday. And they said they would not make any more eggs for the day (at the to go spot.) Off putting practices and I expected much better from a Denver institution. read more

Very disappointing experience at Mercantile, primarily because of the service from the host, Ted. I initially requested a table for three while only one of us was present. Ted explained that he couldn't seat us until more of the party arrived, which I completely understood. When we returned with two people and our third person was literally coming down the escalator, his response was, "As I told you already, I can't seat you for three." The tone was unnecessarily rude and condescending, especially since we had been perfectly understanding of the policy. He then made a point of tapping the sign stating that they don't accept Chase Priority Pass. Later, after I had already ordered from Mercantile, I briefly stepped out to grab food from the food court to put in my backpack for dinner because my flight lands around 11 PM. Ted actually came over to tell me that outside food wasn't allowed, even though I wasn't attempting to eat it there and was clearly putting it away. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational. Airport travel is stressful enough without a host repeatedly speaking to customers as though they are doing something wrong. To top it off, there were flies all over the restaurant during our visit. Unfortunately, the combination of the service and cleanliness made this a very poor experience. read more

I got to Concourse A 2 hours before my flight, so decided to go to a sit-down restaurant for lunch. I googled the best restaurant in Concourse A and the Mercantile came up. I was debating between the hamburger or sliders, so asked my waitress and she said both were really good. So I went with the sliders. Wow, they were amazing!! They came with dipping sauce that just made them so flavorful! I seriously think I will be going to the airport early to eat here when I fly out of Concourse A in the future! This meant that no more of that delicious Beet Salad for me (I actually came here for it so to find out about the unexpected menu changed truly saddened me.) But I didn't want to leave. As steadfast as I was remaining, I decided to try something I had never tried before so even though the price was quite high, I went with the Ahi Tuna Bowl $34 to be exact.) The portion is small (not that I was anticipating something bigger.) If this wasn't airport food then it would easily be half of the price ($18 but no more.) The portion of the tuna however wasn't so stingy to my surprise. The overall taste wasn't bad either although I would firmly refuse to say that it was one of the best. This restaurant is clean; I know for sure I have never seen it dirty. I also like the layout of the place. Seatings are plenty. I have never run into a situation where I had to be on the waitlist. Okay, this is definitely a great restaurant for an airport. When I got here at 7pm on a Tuesday, the place was busy and lively, but not hectic. Drew took care of me, and made sure I was tended to whenever needed. I ended up getting the buttermilk chicken sandwich, and it was by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The prices were definitely those at any other airport, but the sandwich made it almost worth the premium. Been here a couple times but today kinda stuck out as a real moment. I thought it deserved a special mention. Jim behind the bar is running a kick ass program here. His attention to detail and the way he interacts with the patrons coming in and out of the airport is pretty impressive. He checked in several times with everyone and ran a super clean and friendly environment. I had a couple mezcal paper planes that were extremely well crafted and we struck up a pretty great conversation about Mexico and tequila. The food here is TOP notch, which I was surprised by. They make a ton of stuff in house that was very refreshing for an airport joint. He was saying the Chicken salad Sandwich was really great. Can't wait to come back and give it a try. Thanks Jim! Airport quick spots are not a good way to judge a local restaurant but it needs to be done. We have loved the original restaurant at Union Station for years. Being forced to A gates at DEN was a shame since most of the United flights use B which has the best eateries at the airport. But United has so many flights here that small airport destinations like ours last week use A. In early morning with plenty of time we needed some pastries and coffee. My husband chis some items that looked good to him, and was sorely disappointed. After eating some if the pastry. And a few sips of coffee, he dumped them. This is truly a rare thing for him.i, on the other hand had brought treats from a pms e at home and just needed a bottle of water to complete my snack. I never drink unknown coffee on the road. I saw a quick serve place not far away for him to get his necessary coffee. He did and was sated. I Andi picked up a scone from them and had another nibble for myself on the plane.
