I liked Menards for the options at the store, but finally saw how horrible their customer service was. In fact it was trash and unacceptable. Specifically in the lumbar department... first as I was trying to find someone to tell me where something was in the store an older gentleman was trying to load some boards on to his cart and he accidentally dropped one and was struggling with them, instead of helping 2 of the employees got pissed and were complaining about the gentleman with me clearly standing there hearing them. What kind of piss poor pathetic scum of the earth watches an old man struggling to load some lumber and treats him like that... well Menards employees, that's who! I proceeded to ask one of your extremely rude employees where the 2 x 6 x 8 boards were and it took 5 employees (whom all were rude) to get me out to the back barn and find one! Extremely disappointed in my experience at your store today, I hope you'll train your employees on simple respect for the general public in the future. read more

Please be aware that this place is so dishonest when you shop there and are using a coupon. They are very deceiving since you will not get your discount at the cash register and you can only use the coupon for one item, you then have to mail in the copy of your receipt for a rebate, therefore, causing you to go back and shop to use the remainder amount on the suppose rebate of the one item. Very very deceitful. Don't believe the lie. Read the find print because you really in fact are not getting a discount. read more

Very rude associates at this location. We needed help and asked a worker named Dylan, who in return rolled his eyes and sent us to the doors when we asked about knobs for a dresser drawer. My husband has a flat loader cart with 500 pounds of wood pellets and asked if we could leave the cart and run and look for the item, since it was so heavy to carry. He then said it will be blocking the way, and we explained no we were going to put out of the way, we just didn't want them to put it away since the store will be closing soon. Again, he was extremely rude, and we had to endure him again as we came back to get our cart. lol and behold he had a ladder was blocking the aisle from someone he was standing there talking too. So, then we had to go around to get our cart that was tucked out of the way. So this was going to be a 1 star review but I bumped it to two stars because as we were loading our car, an associate named Riley came out and asked if we needed help and was very friendly. He was the only one in the store who offered to help and gave a smile. I hope Riley is appreciated in the store because he seemed to the only nice person there. As we entered the workers were talking to each other and counting down the minutes til they were out of the "hell hole" as they called it. I guess that should of warned us off. read more

Not helpful at all. Need to have all return policies clear and written where it can be seen by the customer. They eat to give store credit when I had my receipt and my check had cleared my bank. I was even Willy to show that it cleared but it had been 6 not 7 days. The 7th day will be a Sunday so they said I may be able to get my money then but I may need to wait till Monday or Tuesday to make sure it is in their system. I asked if I could call so I don't make another trip and the manager said no I have to come in. That's not 7 days. And you don't even know that you have to wait 7 days till you go try to make the return because it doesn't say it anywhere. read more

I am a huge fan of both Home Depot and Lowes, but I was excited to have another home improvement retailer in Kansas City. But the thrill of shopping at Menards has quickly turned sour. Their customer services is less than stellar and the nonsense with the 11% off via a mail-in rebate is an exercise in the ridiculous. If you want to have an 11% sale, just mark the items down in the store instead of making the customer fill-out a form, pay for a stamp, mail it a form, hope it doesn't get lost by the post office, wait to receive a check for a random $17.99, and then hope you don't lose that check? As busy as we all are, WHO has time to play these retail games? But this week was the last straw. I needed a simple window mull-kit to go with the windows I also ordered from Menards. I ordered 4 the kits in May. It took a month to arrive. When they finally arrive, my window installer informs me that only one kit would fit the windows?? He assumes that the kits don't go with all window brands. WTH? I then have to return the kits and pay a 25% re-stocking fee. Now it is June and I have to order 3 more kits of another brand. They take another month to arrive. When I go to pick them up, the staff can only find one kit, not 3. I am there for 2 hours, but no one can find the other 2 items. I speak with store manager Brian, he tells me he will keep looking, and he will call other local stores to see if they were delivered to another store accidentally and if need be, he will order new items. Three days later, he has not called me back. (Does anyone really believe that he looked for them?) I call the store and speak with Paul who says he will look for them and call me back. Then an hour later I get an email saying that a new order was placed and they will arrive in about a month!!! This is crazy. Anyone who works retail knows that in 2020, items are scanned and tracked as they move through the supply chain, so how can these 2 items simply disappear off the face of the earth. The plan to paint my house has been on hold for over 2 months because I need to have the new windows installed prior to the paint job. And the incompetent folks at Menards could care less. Contrast this to the customer service I receive from Home Depot and Lowes. I am a rehabber, so I do a lot of orders with Home Depot and Lowes, and both retailers have screwed up orders in the past. But in both cases, someone takes responsibility and makes it right. This year both oversold some vanities they had on special. I was able to order them online, but they ran out of the items they could not deliver. The managers of both stores told me I could go pick out a comparable item, no matter the price. Not so with Menards. All you get is "shoulder-shrugs" when you demand accountability. When I think of Menards, I think of mask-Nazi's, rebate games, and lost merchandise. Who needs it? I plan to RUN, not WALK back to Home Depot and Lowes. read more

Went to Menards for the first time to look for a shower pan. To my surprise, they had more options than Home Depot or Lowe's. I ended up getting a solid shower base instead of substandard acrylic crap sold everywhere else. So excited to have a luxurious looking bathroom. read more

If you are going to the brick pavers area, east of the garden center, outside yet still in the store PLEASE Be Careful. If you have kids Please don't let them run around out there. I believe if this issue is NOT addressed and fixed someone or someone's child is going to get horribly injured. Menards Listen! You have concrete bright yellow poles so no one will hurt your property (building) ,or for whatever reason, but what about at the ends of the shelves that the pavers sit. Consumers trucks and cars drive up and down that long strip so they can retrieve the pavers they have paid for. Since the end of the shelves are not labeled with good information like an isle number, you have to drive with your head on a tilt looking for the right lane. Also, I did not see any warning signs telling people "hey trucks drive through here keep your kids by your side and pay attention. WARNING" As I was looking at pavers I saw a mom and child come out there. The child ran out in front of a truck and was so very close to getting hit, under a foot from his little body. The gentleman in the truck had already loaded his brick or whatever and was on his way out. I feel it would of been tragic if he was looking for the lane he needed to be in. As a mother there's a hell of a lot more I want to say about this incident I witnessed but I believe this simply comes down to neglect on the part of this establishment. Please fix this issue. I believe it's extremely simple to: #1 put lane numbers so consumers will know what isle to drive to so they have a better chance of keeping their eyes open. #2 put signs up for the drivers reminding them to go slow and that there's people walking out there. And #3 For heavens sake put a sign at eye level for everybody to know traffic runs through the yard please keep your kids and yourself aware. I feel the mother that I saw extreme fear for her son in her eyes would really appreciate it. But I also feel that I have little if any faith that this issue will be fixed so please be careful!!! One more thing...before this happened, it was taking forever to get staff help so I called the store while in the store, part of the opening statement on their call says "Dedicated to service and quality". When Menards opened in the Kansas City area I was excited to check it out. My sister in Indiana frequently talked about going to Menards and at that time I had never heard of them. We have shopped at the Olathe store and the store in Lawrence (KS) and have spent a good amount of money many times. Since covid-19 has hit us wreaking havoc with so many businesses, Menards luckily has remained open like the other larger stores. My confusion and quite frankly irritation, is that we are not allowed to enter into a Menards without wearing a mask - unlike Cosco, Sam's, Walmart, etc. etc. AND no one under 16 years old is allowed to enter at all? Like they will pass a virus more-so than anyone else? Especially being quarantined the same as everyone else? Why 16? Because they won't be spending as much money in the stores as a 17 yr old? When I found out that Menards is being so anal about mandatory mask wearing (unlike the other large stores) I refused to go in. Yep. I went straight back to my car and headed for Home Depot. And from now on, Home Depot and Lowe's will be my go to stores. Beware the constantly changing prices. If you buy anything at full price it's probably on sale 2 weeks later. And they'll tell you "too bad" because they've got it timed to a 14-day policy. I spend thousands with menards but get burned regularly on stuff they later place on sale. They don't seem to care one bit. read more

I am a loyal lowes customer but thought I would give this a try since it is closer to my home. The layout of the store is awkward and confusing. You have to walk through a turnstile to get into the store which is very unnecessary. It is a strange hodgepodge of items. It has jeans, shampoo, and washing machines which to some people could be a one stop shop, but the organization is bad. I'll stick to lowes. read more

Have had a very poor experience with the Olathe Menards over the last few months. Ordered a countertop 4 months ago. Never arrived even though we kept getting ship dates. Finally went to cancel order today, and we were told because it was beyond 90 days, THEIR FAULT, we could only receive store credit, no direct refund! No exceptions, we were told! read more

Paid cash for fence supplies, about $2,000. Menard's was short 141 pieces of 6' AC2 1/2" x 5 1/2". Was told they were short of what I needed but they get resupplied all the time. The posts are in as are the 2 x 4s. Can't finish until 141 pickets show up. Called them today and was told they had no idea when the next delivery would be. I ordered my lumber two weeks ago. No phone call telling me what was going on and no idea when project can be completed. Will get my money back for the 141 pieces that may never arrive and go to Home Depot where they have over 1,000 pieces in stock. This was my first purchase at Menards and my last. read more

Charged me a 25 percent restocking fee to return a door. The door was a bit over $400-they say it is a special order and yet they have the very door on their floor and put the one I returned back on the floor for full price. Corporate was unwilling to provide assistance. There were two "managers" saying that they have the authority to not charge this since was just exchanging for another size (32 to 36 inch) These are the only two sizes and it's not a custom order door. read more

Bought lumber yesterday afternoon. Decided to upgraded. Went back to the store this morning. And Menards has changed their return policy and is no longer accepting any returns. I asked to speak to the manager and she said the policy changed this morning. I point to the huge return policy on the wall behind the return counter and pointed out the policy says 90 days. The Manager walked away! I called Menards Corporate and the costumer service representative is an answering message tell everyone to put their grievance in writing. :) read more

on 3/28/20 My wife and I went to purchase a 54 inch wide laundry room cabinet, window film and a lighting fixture totaling over $220.00, for the most part everyone was friendly and professional up to the point after checkout when the courtesy attendant Noah wheeled the pre-assembled cabinet out to my truck to help load, once loaded he then preceded to tell me that i could not park in the back of the parking lot and berated for 15 minutes. I called and spoke with MOD Lisa who informed me that she would take care of it. The next day i ran out of window film and menards was the only store in town that carried it, i reluctantly went back to the store and soon after i walked into the store Noah saw me and started to follow me around at a distance giving me dirty looks which i ignored. I got home and opened the packaging to find out it was pacakaged wrong at the factory with a different type of film. Again i went back to Menards quickly walking thru the store hoping to avoid Noah which i was almost successful until check out, there was Noah waiting to confront me again about the other day. At this point I sternly asked to see the MOD immediately, This time i spoke with a Manager named Jenny she again assured me that it would be taken care of, not one of them apologized for there employees UN-professionalism and to make things worse the customer service hotline is a number to tell you to mail or fax your concern or complaints in. Its clear these employees are allowed to harass customers and there is no accountability. I will more than likely not be back to menards again in fear of what Noah will escalate things to next. Shopped sales flyer. Items were difficult to find in the store. I asked for assistance from TWO employees. One said she didn't know where the product was and directed me to lumber. Another said they were out of the one in the sales flyer but they had others that were "out there" (pointing to a door) but, "they probably aren't on sale". Then he walked away. Customer service and product availability were lacking on this day. I don't make the trek to Menards often. It will be an extremely long time before I make the trip again. read more

Just trying to think why I'd come back to your store? Bad service, and bad customer. Went to your Olathe Kansas store on 11/29/17,a Wednesday evening. To buy an advertised sale item, tha was on sale for 7 days, and on the 3rd day into the sale the item is OUT, with the store manager saying we aren't ordering any more. Drove 45 minutes, past Home Depot and Lowes to get to your new store to the area, and you FAILED miserably. NOTHING IN THE AD THAT SAID "LIMITED QUANTITIES", "FIRST COME FIRST SERVICE", "NO RAIN CHECKS", NOTHING TO HINT, THAT 3 DAYS INTO A 7 DAY SALE YOUR GOING TO BE OUT AND LIMITED SUPPLIES OF ITEM. BAD!. When I checked on the item, the lack of empathy was the icing on the cake. "I'm sorry" these days has no meaning at the customer service desk. And then I made the mistake of calling the next morning to speak to the manager and got Will, the Acting General Manager. Don't know if he's ready for GM yet. Because his lack of empathy, made easy to see why I didn't see any around. the store that evening. He was so defensive on the subject, didn't care to ask what item even. WOW. Good luck Menards, In this area of Kansas we expect customer service. You have a lot of work to do in that area. read more

NEVER use the "rebates" they offer. I bought a ceiling fan at the beginning of 2107 and was suppose to be receiving a $30 rebate for the purchase, and STILL have not received my rebate check. I have sent multiple emails to the rebate center and have been "issued" 3 checks I still have not received! The 4th one is "on the way". Online there are multiple bad review about this whole process and people complaining about the same issues I am having! Don't waste you time! read more

Don't go here if you need help in the lumber yard. We went to pick out some deck flooring boards. We already knew there were some inside because we had checked to make sure they had what we wanted. When we asked about getting them they told us we needed to go back to the service desk in the back and get a pick ticket then come up front and pay for it. Again, what we needed was inside and we told them that but they told us we need to drive around back and get it. We just figured there was some outside too. We drive around back and were told to go to barn 2 or the east wall. We could not find what we paid for and there was no one to help. We went back inside 2 times and both times were told that there was someone out there to help us. There never was. Of course there was 5 people standing just inside the yard at the service desk. We finally just grabbed a little lumber cart and loaded up the ones inside then walked out the back with it. We asked one of the employees standing around if there was any twine and said no. Once we got through the guard shack where the guy checks your ticket there is a place with twine there. They guy in the back didn't even know that. I guess you get what you pay for and you sure are not paying for service there. I will say that once we were inside loading the 20 boards ourself, a young employee came over to help us. When we told him they sent us outside he apologized and said "a lot of things about this place don't make sense". read more

Today I am writing concerning the Olathe KS store. Specifically the General Manager named Bryson at that store. My mother went in to return her lawn mower that was purchased on 5/21/17 at the Olathe store. Last weekend, my mom called the store and spoke with an employee over the phone and they told her that as long as the gas was removed from the lawn mower they should accept a return. We arrived at the service desk and spoke with two customer service representatives. Both informed us that we were not in the 7 day return period to take the lawn mower. We were also told that after gas has been put in the mower it cannot be taken for a return. They explained The only way it could be returned is if a service center evaluated it and said there was a manufacturer error. My question is, how would we know if the lawn mower works for us if gas was not allowed to be put in the mower? Our family had a recent death this week and with all the planning that has gone on with our loss, no one was able to return the lawn mower. Not only were we not informed over the phone that there was a 7 day return policy, but there is no writing on the receipt stating that there is such a thing as this return policy. After multiple conversations with the hardware manager who denounced my moms ability to work a lawn mower, the general manager was invited to come help us. My mom explained herself to to the GM and his response was that the 7 day policy is no longer valid with this purchase and that because it had gas at one point, they could not return it. Why was the 7 day policy explained if it didn't apply to my mothers purchase? And why over the phone was my mom told the lawn mower could be returned if there had been gas in it at one point? After trying for over an hour for any type of compensation, they refused and acted condescending, making my mom physically upset. I don't expect her to receive compensation at this point, but I want all customers to know that they are rude and disrespectful and have terrible customer service. They have lost two loyal customers and we will no longer be shopping for this company. read more

Let me start by saying I grew up in Minnesota, so I have shopped Menard's long before they came here, and have been a fan. However, the Olathe store does not provide the customer service I am accustomed to from other locations. Case in point: my husband is helping his sister raise her retaining wall, so he went and had a young associate help him find the block that he thought matched in size and texture. He asked if there was a "bone pile", so he could take a small sample to be sure of the color, and they found a small, broken 6" piece in a pile. The associate said he had to make sure that was okay with the manager, and the manager came and said they recycle the broken blocks, so he couldn't take it - he needed to buy a full block. My husband handed him the 6" piece and told him he would buy it somewhere that treated customers well. That 6" piece of block, which probably had a 25 cent value has cost them a customer who has spent thousands at other Menard's in the past as a contractor. Customer service is important - it's unfortunate they don't understand it at this store. read more

I purchased a chain saw, took it home and tried it. It works for a very short while and then stopped. I could not get it to working again. It had the 50:1 gas I bought with it and was less than a few hours old. When I returned the same day, with the receipt to exchange it for a new one they said they would not because I had put gas in it. The GM then proceeded to tell me that if I would of read the fine print of the receipt I would have seed that. I then was told to take it to a service center and that it "shouldn't" cost me anything. So, thinking I may be naïve on these things, I called Home Depot and then Lowes on their policy. They both said that they would definitely exchange it, so I learned that Menards is not the standard but the exception and I will never shop there again! read more

I'm always happy when I go to menards, they're a little bit of a drive from me, but their products are great, checkout is fast and their prices are comparable to wal-mart and Amazon. If I had a complaint, it would be that their rebate system is antiquated. Why would I want to mail a receipt and wait for money back? This is the 21st century. Offer me an in-store credit card, or a loyalty program. Does menards hope to singlehandedly keep the post office in business, or is it just that they want to make their rebate such a hassle to acquire that customers give up? read more

So I make a major purchase at Menards and then fill out all the paperwork for the rebate and snail mail it in. It takes forever and a day for them to process the rebate. I wait patiently for my anticipated rebate check and what do it get? A postcard disguised as junk mail that I almost threw in the trash. It's only a coupon good for more purchases at Menards for the rebate amount. What a joke! I think their plan is that people will never mail in the rebate in the first place, and if they do, by the time it arrives they will have forgotten about it and unknowingly throw the postcard disguised as junk mail in the trash. Now I am stuck having to spend my rebate 'money' at Menards when I was expecting a check I could actually cash. This so call rebate is a very deceptive practice that they heavily advertise without making the terms clear up front. Oh, I'm sure they have that issue covered somewhere in the fine print buried under the BIG GREEN REBATE bait. Why do they blatantly advertise the rebate thing in your face and then when it arrives you can barely separate it from the junk mail? Fool me once it's your fault.......never again. I generally like shopping at this establishment. Good selection, mostly good help and decent prices. My issue is this 11% rebate thing that they offer. It is done through a 3rd party company. Several months ago I bought a new lawnmower, that was on sale, and a service plan for it. I filled out all of the paperwork, which is a confusing and a time consuming task in itself. Wisely, I made copies of everything. I mailed it to the address given (again, a 3rd party rebate company that Menards contracts with). After a month I went into Menards and inquired about it. The employee advised me to give it 4 to 6 weeks. At the time that my wait time had been 8 weeks, I again returned to Menards to inquire. Another employee gave me an e-mail address, at this time, to send an inquiry to the rebate company. After filling out a ton of stuff for the rebate entity of Menards, regarding this rebate, it said that they would respond within 2 days. A week later I had heard nothing from this rebate entity. I took all of my paperwork etc... into Menards and asked to speak to the manager. The manager did give me an in store credit for the amount of my rebate. A 50 cent stamp, lots of stuff to fill out, 3 trip to the Menards to inquire about the rebate, an unanswered inquiry to Menards 3rd party rebate company and 9 weeks later over a $20 rebate seems excessive to say the least. read more
