**AMAZING customer experience story**…read more The other day I came in looking for a pair of heavy-duty scissors to cut off a piece of plastic that was hanging down from my car making a terrible scraping noise. After a minute of wandering around, an employee, Patrick, asked if I was finding everything alright. I told him what I was looking for and why I needed them. He lead me to the scissors, none of them big or strong enough for what I needed. He asked if I had a utility knife. I said no. He then pulled his out and asked if we could go look at it together, and "maybe save me some money." He then proceeded to, in the 33 degree weather, crouch down to cut this super difficult piece of plastic off of my car for me!! He then explained to me what it was and even suggested his mechanic. It was literally so kind. Instead of just trying to sell me some cheap scissors that we both knew wouldn't work, he took time out of his day to help me with this, at no benefit to him. The staff is typically helpful in knowing where everything is. my only gripe is the lines. they seem to only have one person on the registers when I go into the store.

Once a year, I go into this store's hardware department, find what I'm after, and then carry it slowly around every aisle of hardware for an hour. I be gettin' educated! I pay and exit when the feet hurt, the head stops working, or the wife sends a message. This store has twice as many different and useful offerings per millimeter of aisle than any other hardware store I know of. Is it was possible to digitize a walk-thru of the aisles, with ultra-zoom? I would browse the heck out of that, a lot more often than once a year.

I'm big on customer service so I sent a simple email to the store. I received a very quick and personal response from Bob, the manager. I loved that they took my experience to heart and corrected the "problem" immediately. I was invited back and, of course, I went back as I need more stuff. :) I went on a particularly busy day for them (HUGE paint sale) but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was so nice! All of the staff were so busy but they all offered to help me find something, mix something, check out, etc. Drew, another manager, was so incredibly nice and helpful. I've been back several more times and he always remembers my name. It's such a small gesture but one that really makes a regular customer feel great! Now as for the store... they always seem to have items that I need in stock. I've never left there empty handed. The store is nicely laid out and seems pretty clean for a hardware store. I'm a painting fool and I love the new paint department. Great colors and they now carry Valspar paint. So.. if you're looking for a great local hardware store, look no further than this little gem!

Every single visit I get employees who don't have a clue about hardware or where to find things in their store. And they always are desperately trying to sell stuff that's not even close to what I need! (Commission?) Today was my last visit. Four employees and three of them were totally useless. The clerk at the counter was too apathetic to bag my items, so I had to bag everything myself. Got to car and some random stranger starts yelling profanity at me from across the parking lot. Truly, this is THE worst Ace on the planet! Poor selection, terrible customer service, and all around bad vibe.

I've brought my pup in here as she continues to need some socialization and it always goes well. One time the clerks had their dog too and they became fast friends. This store really packs quite a bit into it. Of course it won't be as sizable as a Home Depot, but man oh man is the experience world's better. I found every single thing on my list which was great. It's closest size comparison to me would be the Ace in Westport, but hey guess what, you don't have to fear for your life in KC's worst intersection if you come here! It's easy to park in the lot out front, off of the always-busy 75th Street. My kids love it because they have a gumball machine, whoopie cushions, and other classics from back in the day when the world was making real attempts to be fun.
