I had a need for a hardware store item this morning, which prompted me to visit Strasser Hardware, a venerable business that has served the Rosedale community of Kansas City, Kansas for over 108 years. The staff's friendly greeting and offer to assist was a testament to their customers needs. Having been a customer years ago, I was pleased to see their continued dedication to customer satisfaction. If you can't find what you're looking for they are there to help you assist you in finding what it is you need. On your way out of the store make sure you stop and get you some popcorn. 910 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS Monday -Friday 7 AM to 7 PM Saturday -Sunday 8 AM to 5 PM Friend) read more

My 76 year old mothers window air conditioner unit went out that was purchased at Strasser Hardware and was still under their 5 year warranty which she paid for. Thursday we were told a new one would be in by the following Monday and we could swap it out. Monday when we called to see if it was in we were told the new owners were not honoring old warranties. No call to notify us while she waited in her hot house for 5 days. Michael the manager and Vicky the purchaser pointed fingers at who dropped the ball and there was nothing the owners would do to help us. Horrible customer service. My father while alive spent all his time shopping at this store and this is how they treat long term customers. You lost our business and anyone else that will listen to how you treated our family. Shame on you! read more

r. I came in with my husband to price out a chain saw blade. He came over and clearly it was an issue to help us. We choose not to purchase, placing it back in the shelf. We said goodbye to the manager and the employees standing with him. We were almost to our car when they came running out of the store asking where the chain was. We stated on the shelf, did you check or just accused us of stealing. He stated he had not checked the shelf and was not accusing us. I would have to say chasing a customer out of the store is enough to say you are accusing. This this point he started cussing and screaming, getting in my husbands face.We have spent a lot of money over the years in this store. read more

Best hardware store in KC. Hands down. They've got everything you can think of. Tons of Milwaukee.

The mack daddy of hardware stores! Strasser is a venerable institution. Dependable, always there for you, never without a sense of humor and full of answers to your every question. Yep. Strasser is like your dad (but only if your dad is old school and awesome). Things I've bought at Strasser: -clothing racks (ah, living in old houses is charming, but people obviously were not clothes horses back in the day) -a gorgeous vintagy patinaed watering can -tomato cages -painting supplies (so much cheaper than getting them at Sherwin Williams and they have a good variety of quality brushes, sponges and more. They have paint, too, but if you're into a huge variety of textures and shades, you're better off at a dedicated paint store obviously). -a door mat -extension cords -electrical equipment -duct tape Whoa, I'm starting to sound like a serial killer now... Holy crap, and there's free popcorn, too! So, you go to the hardware store and get a treat out of it, just like the old days. Yep. Strasser knows what they're doing. Dad also only hires the nicest people. There's the friendly guys and girls who roam the aisles asking if you need help (no, seriously! And unlike at HD, they have the bloody answers!) and then there's personable cashiers who make check-out both fun and a breeze. You'd be a fool if you don't make it your one-stop over the hellhole that is Home Depot. You know your dad would agree because he probably hates Home Depot, too. read more

Strasser Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - Kansas City, Kansas

Great selection for tools and hardware. Customer service is better than the big box lumber yards, but not as personal as it once was.... Still prefer going there over other places... read more

Strasser been the standard best hardware with great help. Problem is their prices are very very high... at least twice what you pay at Menards or Lowe's. Not going back unless desperate and i was. Great service. yep. but you are gonna pay out the nose! read more

Don't be fooled because this isn't considered a big box store - this place has a HUGE assortment of hardware and tools! Their selection of bolts and fasteners is one of the widest and best in the city. It's great having them located smack dab in the middle of the city and right off the interstate. read more

There's something about going to a classic hardware store like Strasser. If you're making frequent hardware store trips, it often means you're knee deep in the best times of year in KC, either spring or early fall. They've got that earthy smell, you can bring dogs in, you're about to start a project that you're hopefully excited about and more excited to knock out and have a beer on the porch afterward. Strasser is a KC staple with the big, bold letters printed on the side of the building that anchors a western stretch of SW Boulevard. This is a hardware store with a history, and better than that, it's still a go-to in the age of suburban box stores. This hardware store has pretty much everything you need. I'll admit the last two times in I haven't encountered the friendliest service, but nothing overtly rude, just maybe a bit more aloof than my smaller neighborhood hardware store. Local, helpful, easy in and out, no-brainer over some other places in town. read more

The repair department tried to pull a major scam on me. I took a hard starting Stihl chainsaw in for a tune-up. Two weeks later they called to tell me that the saw was unrepairable because the cylinder and piston were too scorched to allow it to run, and that the cost of the repair would be more than the cost of a new chainsaw. In disbelief I removed the exhaust to examine through the port and both the cylinder and piston were pristine. I drained and changed the fuel mix and it started right up and runs like new. It's disappointing because I patronized this store often. No more read more

A really good place to do business. Strong commercial hardware is a highlight! The downside is cheap, "cartel" power tools. =(( read more

I grew up in a tiny town in Central MO and the one mainstay was the local hardware store. I can still remember being welcomed by the smell of seed, when walking in the door, followed by a "hello" from the owner of the store. This store is a lot like that, just on a bigger scale. This store has it all! The thing I really like about this store is they have workers scattered throughout, usually found at their "stations" who are there to help you find what you need. They are very helpful and very friendly. They have helped me navigate choosing propane gas, dead bolt locks, winter gloves (even recognising the brand label on my favorite glove, which wasn't a glove they carried) shovels, copies of keys, a large moving blanket, all the way down to the correct length of extension cord I needed. This Westside South store is much, much more than just a hardware store, folks! Stop in and say hello. read more

I'm not from Kansas city and never been to store, I found them on the web and they had the best pricing and faster delivery service of any one including the big box stores. I think I'm hooked.... read more

I moved from Kansas City last year and have shopped locally owned small as well as the big box hardware stores. Every time I do it really makes me miss Strasser's. Even though I lived In Parkville where nearby both Home Depot and Lowes were located, I never minded the drive to Srasser's because of the fantastic selection of goods and the best customer service I ever had. Every single time I was there over the course of 30 years I always left satisfied. I sure wish they would open a store in St. Louis, it would be a huge success. read more

I have been doing business with Strasser True Value Hardware since I was a teenager in the late 1970's, and they are in a league of their own, even as they have adapted over the past five decades! They are truly knowledgeable and professional in every area. read more

Wonderful and easy online ordering! Quickly received the items I ordered just as advertised. Very pleased with this store.

I live a few blocks from a Home Depot, and I'm lazy - so I don't get out to locally-owned hardware stores as often as I should. We headed to Strasser last week to buy a hot plate (long story) and they were friendly as all get-out, and the hot plate was reasonably priced. Also, I ate two bags of free popcorn. I seriously love this place. read more

Home remodel job pending? This place has everything. No really, they do. I feel like their selection is better than HD or Lowes, even though technically they have fewer items in the store. It's just that this True Value always has what you need. Always. Despite their selection being top notch, I'm not thrilled about the service. If you're a guy, don't worry. You'll get great service. But as a young looking woman, I have to butt into conversations between the old men that work there and the men customers with whom they feel like bonding over tools. If they didn't have such a seriously good selection, this would probably cause me to never go back. But this True Value is definitely a one stop shop. And when you do finally get their attention, they actually know what they're talking about. It's just too bad they are misogynists when it comes to women and home renovations. read more

For those following along at home, I am so frickin' over Home Depot. Yesterday I needed some wall anchors, and decided that instead of going into that big box of sadness, I would Yelp it up and find a local hardware store, and came across Strasser. And for the most part, I couldn't be happier. When I hear "local hardware store", my mind automatically races to a small and cramped little shop, with an old dude whittling behind the counter. Nope, Strasser is just massive and has everything that I could possible need. I was incredibly impressed with the selection and the organization. I think the people who worked there thought I was a huge weirdo, as I was casually browsing a hardware store. They do however lose a star for their customer service. One person on the floor and another checking me out were both total grumpy gusses. On the floor, I was asking for assistance in finding a couple of things, and all I got was a curt "it's over there....further...further....to the right", when I think it'd be pretty easy for them to just walk me over to what I wanted. At the counter, she just had a rude tude, dude. But whatever. They at least seemed competent and confident in their wares, which is more than I can say for my most recent Home Depot experiences. With their decent selection of lumber, tool rental and wide variety of product, I can't imagine why I'd ever go back to the Depot. Hooray for Strasser Hardware! read more

Strasser Hardware is everything a hardware should be: stocked full of things you need and of people willing to help. On one hand it's exactly like it could have been if your grandpa had taken you there but it has all the modern things you need for today's hardware. I recently needed a few electrical items and a piece of black pipe for a gas line. I had a piece of pipe and needed a few inches cut off but as cheap as the pipe should have been, I was ok buying a new piece and asking them to cut and thread it so it would be worth their time. They would have none of that. They cut the piece I brought and threaded it and wouldn't give me a price for it - they said it was ok, they were glad to do it, and asked that I just come back sometime. I will. I will even drive much further than to my local Home Depot or Lowe's because not only did Strasser have what I needed, they genuinely understood the importance of creating a relationship. read more

For decades this has been the go to source for expert advice and niche professional products. While the box stores are cheaper and a good source for most hardware or landscaping products, Strasser is the place to go for hard-to-find products. The store is in Kansas City Kansas -- but it's a short drive for Kansas City or Johnson County residents. If you're looking for a professional product that doesn't seem to exist anywhere -- call or drop by Strasser read more

You don't really have an appreciation for an old school hardware store until you need one. This place has it all and even better has people working there that can actually give you advice on repair and general home repair. I recently went in looking for an odd type of plumbing fixture after going to the big box stores and getting no help at all. I walked in and within 15 seconds I had the part, an install tip for the manager in plumbing and everything else I might need to get the job done the right way. Parking is wide and off the street, good lumber department and free popcorn. I will gladly pay a little more to keep a place like this going. Thanks Strasser. read more

I don't own a home, but that doesn't mean I don't have things that need fixing. So when I need just such a thing, it's nice to have someplace like Stasser to go to. Strasser is an traditional True Value hardware store - the kind of place that my grandpa used to go to on Saturday morning. It's the kind of place that everyone went to before Home Depot and Lowes were around. On the occasions I've visited Stasser I've found the staff knowledgeable and helpful which is great because, with everything crammed into a such a small overall space, it can sometimes be hard to focus in on what you need. What's more, if you're like me and were never been what one might call "handy," having someone explain not only how to fix something, but with what, can be a great help. You may end up paying a little more at Strasser, but not by much and, for me, the cost is well worth the experience, the knowledge and the advice. read more

I love this place. I grew up in the neighborhood and Strasser's has always been a familiar and welcoming place. One of the few old-school hardware stores left. They've got just about everything the big boys and girls have except it's more personalized service. Lots of canning supplies too. read more

This place is awesome. It is not brand spanking new with countless aisle and miles of signage. It speaks to the days of a real hometown store where people actually ask you if you need help and then actually have an educated answer to your question. It is old school good, not old school bad. A energetic old guy hung close and helped me locate all my supplies. At least I believe he works there. Either way, I was checked out and on my way in no time. I find things here I can't find anywhere else and I get the satisfaction of giving my money to a hardware store that truly deserves my business. This is where all the real handymen go! read more

Their selection is fine, and I love supporting local businesses but the cashiers could not be less attentive. Multiple times I've stood in line behind several people to check out and instead of coming over to open up another check out lane, the other cashiers just continue to dick off and talk with each other. I get it, I was a teenager with a crappy summer job once too, but can someone say something? Jeez Louise. read more

Great place! Smells like an old time hardware store. We've checked prices and they are competitive with the big box stores and there are so many helpful people! What a great KC original. read more

An old-fashioned full-service hardware store - not many of these left anymore. If you need a single screw, washer, or bolt, you'll find what you're looking for in one of Strasser's many bins, and they'll be happy to sell you a single one if that's all you need. A couple of reviewers mentioned paying more at Strasser. Sometimes that's true, but other times I've found Strasser's prices to be in line with, or even lower than Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, or any other so-called "Super" store. And you can't beat this place for knowledge and good advice, free with every purchase. I like to deal with them whenever possible, so they'll be around in the future when I need them. I wouldn't trade Strasser for all the Home Depots or Lowe's in the world. read more

I love this place! I usually get the right part on the first trip, thanks to the excellent help. Their people really know their inventory, and on the rare occasions when they do not have what I need, they are great at helping me improvise. It's the small things that keep me happy. read more

Easily the best hardware store in KC. They have been around forever, give you free popcorn at the door and excellent tips for a true DIY(er)! read more

Who doesn't like Strasser's? As of the date of this review, no one here on yelp. Going to Strasser's is like stepping back in time to my childhood. I've mostly gone here for household items, most recently a USB cord for my iphone charger, but they are also good for specialty hardware items. I've even heard of Home Depot employees refer customers here if they don't have a certain electrical or plumbing item. Free popcorn at the front door. It's fun to walk around and see the variety of items they have. Love this old building! read more

I'm 66, fairly well-traveled. Other than a coupla decades outa the KC area. I've spent many a trip to Stasser's. It is a well-deserved legend in town. Many of the employees have been there for years & most of the staff will either take u 2 what u need or give u really accurate information on what u want & where it is located. Can't say enough good things about how they r run & the surprisingly large inventory they keep. Highly Recommended! read more

Received great customer service from a worker named Stan S....a big help.

Strasser's is the undisputed champ in Kansas City for selection of hardware fasteners in brass, chrome, stainless and the like. Fabulous. Plus an excellent selection of top quality chain saws and lawn equipment. The only downside is fairly serious:: like may KC area hardware stores, they have been pressured (by a dominate manufacturing/marketing conglomerate, yuck) into handling inferior power tools. Not junk-status, just the highly advertised line with inferior spec.s of every type in every tool). Yellow everywhere..... read more

We are a commercial customer and purchase from Strasser on a daily basis. There selection and customer service is outstanding. I want to say a special thank you to Bill who takes all our orders and provides the best customer experience of any of the hundreds of vendors we purchase from. I really like this store as much as a gal can like a hardware store. I needed to get stuff to redo a room in my house. They had everything I needed...paint, shelving, hardware, etc. The guy helping me was fairly friendly...as friendly as I would expect a hardware guy to be! Will be returning here anytime I need something for my home fixin-ups! read more

Strasser's used to have excellent customer service and we didn't mind paying more for great service. Now, the kids that work there have no pride, and the lady running the register couldn't wait to get us out of there so they could close, and it was about 10 minutes until 8. We hate the big box stores, but their customer service isn't any worse than Strasser's now; and their prices are cheaper. read more
