I am constantly going to Menards for different items needed for our home. I go past 3 Lowe's and a Home Depot to get great service and supply at Menards. Always frustrated when I go into other home improvement stores so I just drive 36 miles to go to Menards instead. They also have great daily internet buys that I purchase frequently. The low reviews on Menard's are baffling to me. This place has EVERYTHING. You can literally design a kitchen, buy patio furniture, and purchase groceries for your family for the week under one roof! After searching for several weeks to find the perfect kitchen cabinets and countertops, we finally found what we were looking for at Menards. We showed up with a budget and measurements, but we were lost otherwise. Thankfully, the employees in the Kitchen Design Department were incredibly helpful. After about an hour we walked out with a complete kitchen design and a great plan for our new digs. This will be our spot for any further home renovations. If you've never been in Menards, imagine home Depot if they caught a Walmart infection and the infection became terminal. They have literally everything you could imagine in this place. You can buy warped boards on discount. I used one, worked good. They have vegetation and barbecue equipment. They have jetpuff marshmallows and flooring. They have Windows and siding and screwdrivers and motor oil and toys and shelving equipment. And it's all a great deal! I will say though, I don't particularly love their bait and switch rebate nonsense. Basically, they tell you to buy something on the label for x amount of dollars and under it it says "with an 11-cent rebate!" And you instantly think, the stamp cost 60 cents! What kind of maniac is going to send a 60-cent stamp with a filled out rebate form with their receipt to get an 11-cent rebate in the mail!?! That's frustrating. Just give me the 11 cents off... I know what you're doing, you're offering a deal but it's basically like offering free money only if you go get it on the moon. You know that no one has a rocket ship; none of us will ever fill out these rebates. But I'll be honest, their products aren't terrible, and they always seem to fill the need. You can find anything you imagine typically, and it's pretty good deal. I usually go for quality items, but I started to frequent this place often because the selection is so ample and they have pretty good markdowns too. They also have a pickup service in the back, which is very nice, and their returns options are agreeable. **JULY UPDATE** The review I posted two months ago remains. We visit this location four times a week. We have had a few employees that did not pass the customer service vibe, but that has not deterred us from shopping here. The most crowded I have seen the store is Sunday after 11am service. Rentals: We rented their pickup truck and a floor buffer. The pickup truck says it's $19.95 but that includes mileage. In actuality, it cost us $40 and we did not use the 75 minutes. The process is easy to rent from customer service but the only con is you may wait in line for a bit. Merchandise: Their products are cheaper than Home Depot or Lowe's but it depends on what you are getting. We found Cabinet pulls cheaper at Lowe's. Bathroom vanities were overpriced in my opinion. You can't go wrong with light bulbs or paint here. We also were able to finish our tile backsplash for a reasonable price. read more

Bought a kitchen faucet a couple of years ago...lifetime warranty. It fell apart faster than it allowed water through it. We finally went back to return it, but of course no receipt, and the debit card we used has changed. It was a "Menards" brand....Tuscany, so no question as to where it was purchased. We were told that without a receipt and the debit number changed, the best they would do was to give us a store credit for what their cost was...$88.00. While they have a lot more variety of supplies, the store is laid out poorly and there are almost no employees. It's definitely a fend for yourself atmosphere. Very unsatisfactory regarding a return. We bought a Tuscany kitchen faucet a while back, and within months it started to fall apart. Now it's totally worthless and the only way we can get a store credit is to either have the receipt (which no one ever keeps), or enter our debit card number at the store. Unfortunately, when our debit card expired and we were issued a new one, they changed the number and so that won't work at all. Now I'm told tht we can only get back about half of what we paid since we don't have the receipt and the debit card number has changed. Tuscany faucets, by the way, are a Menard's brand, so you can't buy them anywhere else, so no doubts as to where we bought it. This is truly a pathetic way to shaft good customers. Underwhelmed by this Menards location for one main reason. I spent a good 15-20 minutes roaming the store trying to find help to track down the item I was looking for. As I would walk towards employees, they would dip and dodge another direction. I finally went up to the front and asked a cashier to help me track someone down who could help. As long time Home Depot (close to me) shopper I switched to Menard's (far away from me) when it opened as I liked the small home town feel of the place. However, today after driving out of my way here there's now a huge "No Pets Allowed" in big white letters on the front door. Home Depot and Lowe's have been dog friendly for decades and even have dog treats! The employees at Menard's have always loved seeing my dog. They don't have dog treats, but that was never a big deal. However, today it's clear the management at Menard's is no longer family friendly and I won't be coming back. I am giving Menard's 3 Stars instead of my initial 1 Star because they do have a really great atmosphere (other than the new anti Dog policy -- even as Nordstrom's is dog friendly -- go figure). They do have good prices on somethings and I really loved the food section that Home Depot and Lowe's lack. It's nice to be able to pick up bathroom and kitchen cooking supplies and milk while at the store. I have since learned that Ace True Value is dog friendly, so I will shift them them as well as the new Lowe's on Metcalf by 95th St that is super dog friendly. Employees have dog treats stashed away at different check out lanes inside and out and the new store I have since learned has a huge new inventory! Hopefully Menard's management reverses this backwards anti dog policy and realizes what a huge mistake it is. read more

After we loaded the wood ourselves (since we could not find help) we went to pay and the chip on the card would not work. when someone compares any large warehouse to Home Depot I pretty much ignore their opinion. I like Menards for certain products and things are pretty easy to locate once you spend more than 10 minutes in the store. I do prefer Lowe's due to the 10% discount given to Military and Vets on all items. Unlike Home Depot or Menards. If Menards gave the same 10% I would go more often. As stated the 11% rebate/discount is not really a savings as you have to spend money in the store to get the rebate. read more

Not many stores carry large area shag rugs, but we found one that looked perfect at Menards online. However as soon as it was delivered, we did not even finish opening the plastic. The online description and the picture did not show that the rug included metallic threads. Upon returning the rug to the Olathe store, a 25% restocking fee was deducted from the price since the item isn't carried in the store. (If it had been carried in the store, there would have been no need to purchase online). We feel completely taken advantage of especially since we lost $70 for an item that was falsely advertised. I have always received a full refund for online orders from Home Depot and Lowe's. I ordered and paid for over $1400 worth of landscape materials online. I received confirmation that my order was ready for pickup and drove to the store. Upon arrival it was determined that they did not have all of the items I had already purchased. A good store would, at the least, apologize and offer to find the missing items for me. Instead, I was informed that I could drive 30 miles to another store and purchase it there. I will say that there were two young men operating forklifts in the garden center that were great and were hard working. We needed a simple order, 4 stakes for our tomato cages. Purchased the stakes and were instructed to go around to the entrance to the lumber yard, things began to go wrong immediately. The guy ambles over and instructed us on how to use the scanner which was done then he said "it's self service!" We then entered the yard with no idea of where to go to get our stakes so we drove around a little then stopped and I went in to ask more specifically where they might be and was waved over to the fence "All the fencing supplies are over there." So we drove around again and no stakes. At that time we flagged down a worker in the yard (only three of them) and he instructed us to the large shed. We drove into the shed and had a general idea where the stakes were. The one worker in there was visiting with a customer so after several minutes I excused myself and asked where these stakes were. He pointed me up the stairs and I finally found the stakes after looking in every bin. I was very disappointed in the service. There were no signs indicating where items might be and only one employee was interested in helping us. How hard is it to at least put up some signs if you aren't going to have employees? I am not a builder and this was the first time I had been in the lumberyard section. Even if I have to pay more somewhere else I will at least go where I can get some help by someone who isn't resentful they are working there. read more

They have everything from toilet paper to rubber flooring and I left with an entire basket full of goodies. Reasonable prices and they honestly have the most selection around. I'm a small business owner & spend around $3000 a month in materials from the hardware store. My go to is usually Home Depot but I figured I'd give the Menards in Olathe a try. Never again! Customer service is terrible & a lot of the materials are of poor quality! I purchased a tool & it fell apart after a couple weeks so I exchanged it & the new one lasted a month. So I go back to return the tool & get my money back. They told me sorry I can't get my money back or exchange because I already returned it once. Prices, on things that you can find at competitors is usually lower. I'm used to HD and I know where everything is. I'm trying to get that way with Menards but they don't carry everything you are used to at other places. Perhaps they don't need to but I hope to get the things I know are here. So I bought a 3-prong plug here for my trip to Mexico that did NOT work when I got to Mexico. A real pia! So I went to the store to exchange it. They were going to charge me the difference in a SALE price for an exchange just because I didn't have my receipt for a $1.99 item??????? Wtf? You sold me a product that didn't work and now you want to charge me more for one that works??? Be warned keep your receipts even if you just have an exchange. I love that the prices are always low, the selection is good, it's a good clean store --much more pleasant than HD or Lowe's. And there are food and gift items available. Absolutely horrible. I have a serious medical issue that only allows me to wear a mask briefly. I have not been able to go to stores because of this except small local shops. The one time I had to go into Menards for myself I was bombarded by the managers. They said they would not check me out unless if I put on a mask. So I explained myself and they were outrageously rude to me. They said I had to wear a mask even though I would've had an episode. They said I could cover my face with a shirt but they would charge me for a mask. The cashier was wearing a fabric mask made from the same material as my shirt if not thinner. I live in Spring Hill Kansas and, in the past, whenever I visit my parents we would go to Menards in Sedalia, Mo. They absolutely love going to Menards, especially for the rebate items...LOL! When they opened a Menards in Olathe, needless to say, I was excited to have one so close. Unfortunately, in the 4 visits that I have had since it opened, I couldn't have been more disappointed. It is almost impossible to find anything that they have advertised (most due to my lack of knowledge about the lay of the land) but it was even harder to find someone to help. When I did find someone to help they were as friendly as the DMV on a bad day. Please don't think everyone was unkind, I just had the bad luck of running into the few...every time I went there. Example: Tonight I went there looking for extension cords they had advertised. I found where they keep extension cords but couldn't find the ones that I was looking for so I went in search of an associate because I know that it is their habit to put ad items on end caps away from the department they should be located in. When I finally found an associate and asked him about it, he just laughed and said that those were a "hot" item and they ran out a long time ago. As I left I stopped by customer service and asked if they give rain checks on advertised items and they simply said " No, we don't give rain checks". If this were the first time this happened to me, I would blow it off as a bad day but this was the 4th time that they were out of something that they advertised. All the same, I've been in retail all my life (I'm going on 60) and know that if you advertise something and don't have the item people are looking for, people start feeling like their advertisements are a "Bait and switch" tactic...especially when they don't make good with an alternative or "rain check". In conclusion, I think Menards is great but they really need to take a look at their overall advertising policy. In particular, since I singled out the Olathe Menards, I hope the managers realize that customer service is everything to a retail business...it will make or break you. We do have Lowes and Home Depot around here that is absolutely running circles around you in customer service...sorry. read more

Good selection overall within the store. Sales representatives were knowledgable. Delivery service problems were horrifying. Interacting with management about concerns was frustrating. They didn't keep simple promises that they had made with in what should have been simple concerns. We went from enjoying the in store experience to deciding to never using the brand again. We received threatening letters from the store to pick up our appliance without having received initial notification that the appliance had arrived and at our own direction had already arranged delivery. Never had these frustrations with other major chains or local operations. If you buy there, pick up the item yourself. Do not believe that there will be any sort of organizational knowledge or system in place to help with concerns. read more
