Awful experience. Everyone I talked to was super rude and had no idea where anything was. I asked for command strips and not a single person could tell me. I asked for box cutters and not one of the four people could help me. I bought a large piece of paneling that I needed cut in the store. I have a small car and it couldn't fit. I took it back to the lumber area where they cut things. They said they wouldn't cut my paneling and I had to figure it out on my own. So I had to spend 20 minutes in the parking lot cutting the paneling with a box cutter instead of having the staff spend 10 seconds cutting it. Go somewhere else. The staff is not helpful and very rude. This is the worst Menards I have been to. read more

Worst experience ever!!! Employees have terrible customer service. Half of them don't even speak English. None of them knew if the carpeting was 11% rebate and if the delivery was 11% rebate. We spent double the amount that we spent on this carpeting for the same space than a few years ago. They screwed up our order that we paid for over the phone and were assured it was all there. The. When it came time to go there and get it they didn't have it. Made us pay double the amount on a similar one all because THEY fucked up. Once they made us pay double and get different carpet, we went to pick it up. The employee "trying" to put it in the van was very rude and not helpful. Knew nothing about tying down the trunk and was a huge jerk. NEVER SHOP AT MENARDS IN LONG GROVE!!!! A**holes! read more

Stopped there on my lunch hour with a bolt. I needed to find a match for this part and would have been lost in the hardware area without help. One of the staff members helped me for nearly 10 minutes while we searched for just the right substitute. I felt guilty taking up so much of his time since it was only a $2 item, but he couldn't have been more gracious and helpful. I've never had a bad experience here. Thank God for Aaron, I was just one of hundreds of customers who went shopping for sump pumps and such after the recent flooding. My project was more preventive than mandatory so by the time I made my way to get what I wanted, a lot items I needed were already gone. I asked a young employee stocking shelves where I could find certain items. I was floored by her answer: "Why are you asking me? I only work here." she giggled and left. Need I say more? I had just about given up when I saw another employee, Aaron. Well this guy must have heard what I was planning on doing a hundred times before as he explained what they were out of, what they had, what was on order but most importantly, he was able to substitute out of stock plumbing parts so I didn't have to go to other stores to get everything I needed. FYI: the substitutions were removing an out of stock part from a pre assembled set-up so I got my part without having to pay for a whole assembly i didn't need. This place is like Narnia, except more wild. There is so much to see here and the store is massive. I needed a piece of scrap lumber, and that was an adventure. The service was a touch slow, but I spent $.49 for a block for my gym, so I'll take it. Horrible employees. Called and asked for the manager. Seems like they just hung up on me.. twice. I ordered something online and got in email saying it was ready to pick up. I was going to pick it up the next day. The next day in the afternoon they called me saying they only have store model. So they sold my order they were supposed to be hold since I paid already. Will not recommend this store at all. Horrible service from the employee. Manager was good. But did resolve my problem at all. Why would you sell something and say it's ready. Really good store for home improvements. But while checking out the girl at the check out, Estephane (e-Stephane) was so rude to us. We said that we were getting water and she replied,"water?" In a snarky attitude. Then she couldn't find the barcode on a flower pot so we lift it up. I say,"oh! Maybe it's on the tag!" This place is big and b/c it has the square footage they carry A LOT of inventory! I love this place! I always find what I'm looking for and the pricing is very good!!! Just remembered why I don't shop at Menard's. I wandered around the general area of the grills for 15 minutes without even seeing an employee. Everything is mixed together and disorganized, with grill parts on alternating aisle ends and bird seed, virtual reality viewers, and cat food scattered in nearby aisles. I finally intercepted a worker who had tried not to make eye contact, asking her where the replacement grill wheels might be. She pointed vaguely to the other side of the store and said "I don't know, but maybe 117 the second half of the aisle." She made no attempt to take me there or help me find what I was looking for. Turned out that the first half of 117 was - appropriately - the screw aisle, while the second half contained assorted wheels that were not organized in any logical way. Giving up, I walked out - passing a hodgepodge of other "hardware" items like brain games for children and dog collars. What a mess. read more

I need to write and tell you what a fantastic experience we had at the Menards in Long Grove, IL on Saturday, August 8th. We encountered six staff at your store during our visit and every one of them was more helpful than the next. We came in with information on what we needed and they were able to find it in the computer, find it in the store, load it into carts for us and help us all the way to the checkout. They even mentioned that if we didn't need all the product, we could return the unopened items. They were so incredibly helpful! The cashier was so sweet and rang us up without any problems and even used our rebate from one of our previous purchases just perfectly. When we went outside and drove to pick up our 20 bags of mulch we purchased, the man at the gate was very kind and helpful. The guy on the forklift who went to get the pallet of mulch was so efficient and helpful as he loaded all of the bags into the back of our van . Then the gentleman who checked us back out at the gate was also very sweet. It's not common to get excellent customer service anymore but I needed to write and let you know that the employees at the Menards in Long Grove impressed us so much that we won't be going to Home Depot anymore for supplies. The WORST customer service ever - I was looking for some banquet tables and the disinterested '"sales" person stood by (offering no help whatsoever) while we struggled and tried to place the table in the cart, no less. I asked if I could just go to customer service and let them know what I wanted and pay for it there and he told me we have to take them up to the desk so they can scan them. All this while standing there not offering any help or even to suggest they could bring it around the back or something (like they do at any other superstore). Then, when we lodged a complaint at the desk we were told he was the manager. Needless to say, we decided to go elsewhere and upon leaving we spotted him outside...so I guess it was his break time. Thanks, but no thanks - we won't be going there again...sure, its a big store, lots of stuff - but really, not many customers that I could see.....no wonder !!! read more

I purchased 2 Doritos bags, because the red sales sign caught my eyes for $1.99, on Sunday 6/17 at 4:34pm. When I got home, I found out I was charged $2.50. I didn't call because it was late, the store was closed. Today 6/18, I went back there to buy other items, and before leaving I asked the service counter person to see if she can credit the difference, $1.02. She said we need proof that it was there. Right now they took it down. So they would not refund the difference. It's a matter of principal. Since it is only a $1, I didn't want to make a scene, but now I realize my support for Menards is worth less than $1.02, so I am writing it here to vent, and warn other customers to check the receipt carefully before you leave the store. That the systems there are not to be trusted. Myself, I won't be back, since my words is not worth $1.02 to them and I am a resident of Long Grove, where the store is located. Customer Service definitely could be better. They don't even bag items for us. This is not a self serve or discount store. There are Home Depot and Loew's nearby. read more

Placed an order online because I was short on time. I didn't mind paying the 'processing fee' because the idea that they'd pull the merchandise and have it ready for me when I arrived was worth the extra couple bucks. Unfortunately, that's far from what actually happened. I waited in a short line at 'special order pickup' like I was advised, picked up my stuff, and headed out. Then for some reason, I was stopped near the front of the store and forced to wait in a check-out line. I explained that it has already been paid for, and that I ordered online because I was in a hurry, but I was forced to wait in (another) line anyway. After waiting in that check-out line for another 15 minutes, I finally got to the front. I simply showed the cashier my receipt and was allowed to go. What!? Why couldn't I have done that with the original employee that insisted I go wait in another line? What a joke. Long story short: I ordered online (and paid extra) in order to save time. It ended up being a nightmare experience and took twice as long as if I had just done it myself. Horrible. read more

I went to Menards for an electrical item. I asked a sales person at the electrical desk and he genuine helped me get a part I needed. As I walked to the checkout I remembered I needed something in gardening. I walked into the outdoor section and spent 5 min looking for a garden hose storage box. During this time I noticed a salesman chatting with another customer. During a pause he looked at me and I asked:"excuse me where could I find the hose boxes"? I was then told I interrupted him and need to wait my turn. I told him excuse me but I asked politely. The other customer said no problem. I told him he was rude. Btw - the discussion was about how the customer looked like one of the salesman's friends. I'm off to Home Depot where they actually try to help the customers. read more

Don't trust the web site if it shows an item is in stock as it appears they have an inaccurate inventory system. This Menards should have had 3 of what I needed. There were none. A second Menards a few towns over was to have 7; there were none. Finally a store showing 70 which was 45 minutes away had about 20. Next time if I really need something, I will call first. However they will not put anything on hold if you request it. read more

My wife and I recently ordered a door from this Menard's. The employee stated it would take about one week to arrive, and asked me for my email address so I would get updates about shipping and arrival. I never received a single email. I had to call the store to find out it was on back-order from their door plant. I asked why I wasn't notified and the guy told me I should have gotten emails about this. He told me someone must have put my email address in incorrectly which is funny because he was the one who sold me the door, on top of the email being correct. No big deal, we did'nt need the door immediately. He apologized and told me he would call me when it came in. I called the next week and a different employee, female this time, answered and said the door was here and ready to be picked up. We borrowed our neighbors truck to pick up the door. When we got into their lumberyard and up to their receiving department, there was no one there. I was standing at the desk for about fifteen minutes, with their OWN phone constantly ringing, with no help. I finally found someone who was in the back area, and he couldn't even speak English. He took my paperwork and disappeared while another employee tried finding my door using my phone number. I've been waiting for nearly thirty minutes now until my wife calls the door department and explains our situation. I had never seen this employee before but he walked us back to the order area and pointed to a door and asked if that was it. He laughed and said they couldn't find it because it was under my first name and not last name. He helped me load the door into the truck and walked away. We were stopped at the gate and realized, along with the guard that we forgot our paperwork. It took me fifteen minutes of walking throughout the store, asking multiple people, giving descriptions of this employee to everyone I approached to finally find him outside on a forklift with my receipt in his pocket. When we got home we opened the doors factory packaging to find out it was damaged on the bottom corner. My wife called the next day to find out we could reorder the door and bring the old one in when it came in. FOUR weeks later we got a postcard in the mail telling us the door was in. We brought the damaged door in and picked up the new one with no problems this time. It was in moderate condition this time around, only a scratch along the base where no one would see. I went in the following weekend to purchase a drill and a couple other things to install it. I approached the returns desk to try and find out where the drills were located. The girl behind the counter told me it was in the middle of the store next to the grills. I made my way towards the grills and walked up to the desk there and was ignored by two female employees who seemed to just be gossiping and laughing (i didnt have a translator handy, so it could have been work related) I asked politely where the drills were and if I could get some help choosing one for this project. One of the employees pointed and said two aisles down there, and continued talking to the other employee in spanish. I ended up finding the drill I thought I needed and purchased it. When I got home I got the pleasant surprise of finding out this drill was a return that was used, and was missing the charger. I returned the drill and went straight to Home Depot where I received the minimum level of assistance I felt I deserved, however it was thousands of times better than Menard's. The management there needs to recheck their hiring criteria. I felt like I was in a border town trying to buy Chiclets from children. I will never EVER go back to that store. I would rather drive to the Lowe's thirty minutes out of my way where I can find employees who know what they're doing. Who hires these people? WHO? I'm all for non-discriminatory hiring but this was just ridiculous. at least going to this store you get free spanish language lessons, 1 star for that. read more

They have a problem processing rebates. the last 4 months and i typically send in a monthly rebate due being a regular customer. But those days are about to end. There is no reason I need to keep submitting duplicates and paying the postage twice and the time and effort to keep writing rebate international. The customer service at Home Depot is by far better and now this. I ask you what is better at Menards? And start processing the rebates on the first submission. read more

i ordered 5 Fiber Cement Panel Siding and when i pick them up they were on wood pallet and i took them to chicago the last panel on the wood pallet was damaged from the nails on the pallet i took pictures and i went to the special order to see what can they do . a clerk tells me i have to bring it back for any credit . i told him he can go f... himself and menards as well . i will never go back . I have ordered kitchen cabinets ($8000 with tax), premium Medallion line form Menards on 10/14/2010. Order number: LONG 30047984. A designer at Menards was very knowledgeable. TWO WEEKS LATER the order number was changed to LONG 30048083 in the system and was delivered on 11.21.10. It took 6 weeks instead of 4 to deliver the order. When the order is checked by a new order number, it appears delivered in 4 weeks though. The order arrived was wrong. Side of one large base cabinet wasn't finished. WE CANT INSTALL COUNTERTOPS TILL ALL BASE CABINETS ARE INSTALLED. We paid for it, it was on the receipt, but the manufacture forgot to finish it. The door on Lazy Suzan was damaged. It had a huge knot right over the top hinge which you could see through and it cracked during shipping. One drawer was crooked; one side was lower than another 5/8 of the inch. We came back to Menards, they promised rushed replace damaged and not finished items free of charge and free delivery to our house. Now it is 12/21/2010 and nothing is still delivered. Menards BLAMES EVERYTHING to manufacture, claiming the plant was shutdown, nothing will be shipped till 12-29-2010. It was 2.5 months so far (10 weeks) our kitchen is not finished. After our last visit to Menards we received a very rude call form Long Grove, IL Menards delivery manager, how refused to pick up the wrong cabinet from our house and deliver a new one to our kitchen. He only promised delivery up to the driveway. Last time we had to carry all large boxes inside the house. After talking to the manager he told us what his guy this time will pick up not finished cabinet, but they refuse to bring the new one in. Menards made a mistake and they have to fix it, deliver all broken, missing parts to our house. The cabinets look nice, but waiting for 10 weeks and more is not acceptable. read more
