Excellent experience here today. We purchased a snow blower and two extremely helpful and courteous gentlemen helped get it into my car. I've been shopping at this Ace Hardware for three years and it's the perfect hardware store. Great inventory and someone always asks if I need help finding what I'm looking for. It's not unusual to have two or three employees ask if they can help. My hardware store of Chou‼. Ace Hardware - Staff needs training - Hardware Stores Near Me - Mundelein, Illinois

This was a simple order that was for 4 strands of red and 6 strands of green LED Christmas lights.  The total order with shipping and tax came to $141.98.  When I received the confirmation I laughed because the order looked like I had ordered 16 boxes which you will see with the attached picture, but of the the 10 total strands actually ordered, 6 were being shipped to me, as I wanted them to, but the other 4 were being shipped to my local store for pickup.  I immediately emailed them back because I was shocked that someone in order entry would not have questioned this order and called or emailed me asking if this was my intention. They informed me that they could not change the order and entered it according to customers selection, but bottom line for them not to contact me and question it just shows you the lack of customer care and service. After receiving the four boxes shipped to store I contacted Ace again when five days later I still didn't have the lights that were shipped to my home and that I couldn't track. The response from Sonia D. still has me upset because she gave me the tracking number that I did not have, and actually told me to contact FedEx as to the delay. I couldn't believe it because first of all I don't have a FedEx account, second of all this isn't my property to be calling on, but she was telling me to do her job. Is this Ace Hardware's policy and total lack of customer service or is this an employee who is just extremely lazy. The real kicker was right below her name is Ace Hardware's motto which is: "Helpful is our Business - Caring Is our Commitment" An ending note is also that after this order I ended up ordering another 22 boxes of lights from Menards, this would have been an order with Ace Hardware for another $307.78. If Ace Hardware was more caring or helpful I would have never looked elsewhere. Those $307 orders add up when you have to dissatisfied customer's. This was added afterwards to just state that we would still be shopping at our local Ace Hardware if it wasn't for the laziness of the employees and the manager. If the manager wasn't so lazy maybe the employees wouldn't be. Getting help from them was like pulling teeth. Your local hardware man definitely won't help you, especially when it's 5 gallon bottles of water. read more

OK hate me I went to Ace Hardware for a curbside pick up during the COVID-19 outbreak. The reason I felt it was necessary was I'm having an ant invasion at my home. I was shocked to find none of the employees wearing gloves or masks, they are at Aldi and they are wearing gloves at Jewel..... I brought this up to a gentleman who said he was a manager, I was pretty upset by it and he laughed it off and told me the flu is much worse!!!! REALLY????? I came in the other day to get a car key replacement, and Tom was extremely helpful in presenting what options I had and provided excellent customer service. Unfortunately, (through no fault of his own) the security chip within the key broke while trying to transfer it into the new casing. Tom had made sure that all possible options at that moment were tried and immediately contacted the manager as well. The manager, Bill, was extremely helpful and was communicative, and went above and beyond to ensure that the issue at hand was resolved and I was able to be on my way with my car and new keys. They wouldn't honor some of my Craftsman tool exchanges. There's been a couple of times when I would walk out disappointed. There was one time recently when I had to pick up pegs for shelves and went here for them. Some old man tried to help me out and he seemed like kind of a dick. I was able to get the shelf pegs I needed, but the old man was talking down to me like I'm an idiot because I was afraid of buying the wrong ones being the wrong size. He wasn't being friendly to me being a customer. I appreciate the fact that they sell bars of the World's Finest Chocolate at the checkout counter. Had a great experience with my local Ace. I needed to replace the screens on several frames. I was advised it would take about 14 days (first come, first served). Somehow, my order was completed within 5 days. Super grateful. They also had the specific plant spray that I needed. Yes, I checked the big box stores and online. I loved that Ace had it on the shelves. Ace may not always be the cheapest, but I have always received great customer service at this Ace and I know I am supporting a local business. read more

I'm a contractor and although I buy most of my work material at suppliers or big box stores, I usually like to run into an Ace for home items or even work items on occasion. Although I've been able to find what I'm looking for at the Mundelein Ace, the customer service, both inside store and on phone is just horrible. Every experience is worst than the last. Nothing earth shattering but definitely not worth the hassle to shop here when you can get what they have elsewhere without the b.s. read more

I came into Ace on Friday, and AGAIN, they met me at the door, asking me if they could help me find something. I'd been to The 'big box home improvement store' earlier that day, passed by over 20 employees and not one of them asked me that question! That's why I love my Ace Hardware store SO MUCH. I grew up with these smaller stores & they HANDS DOWN BEAT THE COMPETITION IN CUSTOMER SERVICE! I asked the manager where I could get my skill saw fixed, he said 'here!' I brought it right back and the man was able to loosen the bolt holding the blade. He didn't even charge me!!! That's INCREDIBLY GREAT SERVICE!!! Thank you Mr. Key man & Ace Hardware! This was my first visit to this store. I came looking for a replacement blade for my 70 yr old blender. I had purchased this product at other Ace Stores so I hoped to find it here. I could not find it do I looked around for help. I searched the aisles looking for help. It took 10 minutes to locate an employee but he was busy helping another customer. I continued to look up and down the aisles hoping to spot another employee thinking there had to be more than just the one in the floor. I couldn't find anyone so I went back to the employee who was still helping a customer. I waited for him to finish and noted that I had already been in the store for 20 minutes. This employee spent 5 minutes with this customer AFTER he determined the store did not have what the customer needed. He never acknowledged me. When he was finished with the customer, I asked for help. He did find what I was looking for after looking in a couple of aisles. I was glad to find the blade but not happy about all the time that was wasted looking for help. read more

Inventory is standard for a hardware store. Might have caught them on a bad day but the staff was unhelpful and not uncourteous. I tend to prefer Ace over other big box hardware stores due to the staff typically being more knowledgeable and helpful, which wasn't the case at this location. read more

I went to Ace Hardware today with my ten dollar coupon in hand. I bought $40 worth of items because the coupon required a purchase of more than $35. When I tried to use the coupon the sales clerk said it could only be used on regular items so I asked what item is irregular? She rudely repeated only on regular items. It took several questions before it was communicated that one of my items were on sale and the coupon could not be used on sale items. I have two issues with Ace, first don't send me coupons with so many requirements to meet before you can use it, second train your sales clerks on how to communicate without being rude. read more
