Not busy in the store at all. Had never been in the store before. We were placed with a very young gentleman to help us. It was clear after a few minutes that he was very new on the job. I asked him for a price on a tile and he disappeared for 20 minutes. Same thing happened when looking at fixtures. He had no experience with fixtures and finally admitted so. I begged another gentleman to help us with fixtures while our salesperson had disappeared. He did, but clearly was not thrilled to be bothered. He was very helpful, and knew the fixtures, but rattled off 8 items to our salesperson that he should write up in our quote. Really? I had no faith that it would be done accurately, since he was so new, and asked that someone oversee the quote. This new salesperson was not ready to be helping customers on the floor by himself, he clearly needed to shadow a more experienced salesperson. I am crossing my fingers that everything our contractor needs will be provided when he actually starts the job. We spent a lot of time and money in this store for very poor customer service. There were plenty of salespeople just sitting at their desks doing nothing. I will never purchase anything from this store again.

Before the snowstorm on 2/12/25, I was trying to get my snowblower working. I had filled it with gas, but it wouldn't start. So, I went to Ace to purchase a gas stabilizer as recommended in the snowblower instructions. The person who greeted me at the door asked what I was looking for, and after I explained, he asked how old the gas was. He then told me I was going about it all wrong and suggested I try TRUFUEL instead. Unfortunately, they were out of the size I needed. A snowblower tune-up at my house was going to cost $300, so I decided to visit a local auto parts store to find TRUFUEL. Sure enough, after draining the old gas and using TRUFUEL, my snowblower started right up! I was so happy! Thank you, Ace Hardware, for the great advice and excellent service!

We had dinner reservations in Winnetka and had an hour to use up before eating, so we drove over to Crate & Barrel for a little shopping therapy. This Northbrook store is a nice representative of the chain, carrying all of the usual merchandise you've come to expect. For us we always gravitate to the glassware where the Crate & Barrels have a great selection. We especially like the Aspen line which is made in Slovakia, and on this visit purchased a box of eight martini glasses: while you can spend $15 per glass on some brands if you desire, this line has more reasonable prices like $6.25 ... $49.95 for eight. We also got a few other items as Crate & Barrels are famous for stocking a few things that you won't find anywhere else. Nice visit. Crate & Barrels show that brick and mortar stores aren't done yet and can compete with the Amazons very nicely.

Crate and Barrel systematically and routinely engages in fraudulent advertising related to availability & scheduling of their products. Items listed as in-stock regularly turn out not to be in stock but you will only find this out after you pay. Delivery scheduling dates are committed & promised at checkout and pushed out (months) with no recourse. I've personally filed complaints with the Michicgan Attorney General, Minnesota Attorney General, and BBB. Crate and Barrel responded to the BBB complaint effectively saying "Yeah we lied about timelines, oh well and we'll keep doing it to other people." So, you've been warned. Room & Board is better quality and they are honest. Crate & Barrel is dishonest and fraudulent.

To my surprise, General Manager Jenni refused to accept the return simply because the box had been opened, despite the purchase being well within the stated 30-day return period. A customer cannot reasonably evaluate an espresso machine without opening the box. The return policy was not clearly explained at the time of purchase, and I feel misled by the way this situation was handled. The lack of flexibility and poor customer service were extremely frustrating, especially for such an expensive purchase. I would not recommend this store based on my experience.

I usually apply rule #4 and rule #5 to my spaces, but I am getting it all under control. Did you know that The Container Store has a design team in Custom Spaces to plan out your room and now also installs? That's what I'm talking about. The designer came out to our house and gave us a plan for two pantry closets and three clothes closets. We also did this during the Elfa 30 percent sale. The parts were shipped to our house and in a few weeks the install crew set it up. I would suggest that the installation team bring the parts to the house instead, as some parts were not delivered, and someone had to drive out to another store to get the parts. Other than that, the closets look great, but my closet is already full! Time to employ the 80/20 rule!
