i worked with tile shop years ago for a kitchen remodel. for a big, expensive project it was important to me to have a lot of choices for this. and i was very happy with the result. i just started a remodel of a kid's hall bathroom, so i thought i would just go to home depot or lowe's. even with such a basic job, i couldn't find anything that looked good enough. so, i went to tile shop. i expected the same variety as i had when i did the kitchen, and i found some tile i liked right away. but, it was the price that really surprised me. for a porcelain tile, the price was almost exactly the same as lowe's (home depot didn't even have porcelain in stock). when you combine the choices with the price, i would recommend tile shop everytime. read more

If I could give them zero stars i would. This is the absolute worst company and customer service I have ever dealt with in my life. Purchased their natural stone for my kitchen backsplash and what is on display is SUBSTANTIALLY different than what they sell. There is natural white stone on display and I have dark grey stone in hand and in my kitchen. I was never once told the stone cut and color could vary so significantly and their customer service, manager, and regional manager offered zero help. Take your business elsewhere!!! Floor and Decor has much more affordable pricing and better customer service, and many online shops as well that I wish I went with. Beyond dissatisfied and will never return here again. read more

I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet! I've been perusing their tile selection online and just realized last week that thetileshop.com has store locations in IL. I just thought they were a great online resource! Today, my husband and I decided to go to the store because we'd been looking at tile online but it's somewhat difficult to tell whether the color is the same as it appears online and it's difficult to match different types of tile without first seeing it in person. As soon as we walked into the store, we were immediately overwhelmed. Thankfully, Rachel approached us and asked if we needed help. YES! After listening to our story and asking us a few questions, Rachel walked us around the store, giving us tasks like: from these tiles, select a few that you like and then we'll talk about them. From there, we narrowed it down to our favorite and then she took us to to the next set of tiles to determine what went with the tile that we selected. As we went along, a vision began forming, and we soon had our bathroom tile all picked out! With Rachel's help, this process was so much easier than I ever expected. We would have walked around aimlessly for an hour, argued a few times, and then left angry with each other, had we not had Rachel's help. I've not done any comparison shopping so I do not know how the prices from this store compare with other tile outlets, but I have to say that the service was TOP NOTCH. We haven't ordered any tile yet, because we're at the very beginning of the project, but I'm definitely looking forward to the next step! read more

Service was just right IMHO. They ask you if you need help but back off until you motion for assistance. The tile displays are plentiful and helped me come up with the design of our TBD master bath, with a bit of mixing and matching. I like the vignettes of bathrooms, kitchens and fireplaces so you can see what certain popular tiles look like in mass quantities. They have a little bit of everything, leaning heavily toward the most popular tile items. If you are looking for very unique tile or high end options, i.e. hand painted or a collection of cement tile designs or Ann Sacks, this is probably not your place. read more

I was really excited, I was finally going to do a back splash in my kitchen. I measured the areas before I left. I went to the tile shop and Rachael, showed me tiles. I found a tile I really liked. Rachael figured out the square footage. She sold me 38 sq. ft. of tile @ 10.99/sq. ft. I went home and remeasured the area and found that I needed 20 sq. ft. and with the standard 20% extra would need 24 sq. ft. I had my son double check my measurements. He confirmed that I had done this correctly. I know that the tile shop takes back unopened boxes, but to sell me almost double what I needed, this is unconscionable. I like the tile and corrected the order when I picked it up and saved myself over $150 because I went home and did the math myself. The tile is great, the service was good, but be careful. Make sure you know how much tile you really need. Even if they sell the tile by the square foot, if it's boxed, you can't return the extras. You can buy extra tiles, you don't have to buy a full box. read more

I just finished a large remodel project and purchased a large majority of my tiles at the Tile Shop. I would first like to say the sales associate I worked with, Laurie, was excellent. She was always on top of her stuff and was in constant communication with me helping me along the way. If I was rating her alone, it would be a 5 star review, unfortunately I had problems with the management. I ordered many boxes of marble tile for my kitchen. I wanted the marble in honed but was informed it only came in polished. Because I liked the color I opted to go for the polished even though it was not my first choice. When the order was delivered, I checked the boxes, the correct amount of tiles and colors were listed on the box. I told my contractor and he had the tile guy start installing them. After tiling about half the kitchen he thought we might be short so he told me to order more boxes. I ordered them, picked them up and dropped them off at the house for the tile guy to finish. I came back later that day and saw that the tiles did not match. It was a subtle difference, but turns out the original tiles I ordered were the right color, but were actually honed! The new ones I picked up were polished. I called the Tile Shop and the manager at first was implying I was lying because she said the tiles don't come in honed. I told her that this was their mistake and not mine, but then was told I should've checked the tiles. I thought me reading the labels on the boxes and checking the color was sufficient, I didn't realize I had to inspect all the tiles in the box and hold them up to the light to make sure they were polished, as they told me, the tiles don't come in honed! The most infuriating thing was that she seemed to insinuate I was lying and trying to return tiles that did not belong to them, who would go to such ridiculous lengths to do such a thing?? They messed up and gave me the wrong tiles, but who will have to pay the price? My tile guy had to rip out 3 boxes worth of tile, which she wanted proof and pictures. We needed to pay for new tile to replace these and I ended up returning 2 and a half boxes of unused tile. The manager said she would only credit me for 2 boxes and as for the return, she would not credit for half boxes of tile so I asked for it back and she refused to give back to me. She said she didn't have to credit me anything for the wrong tiles, even though it was completely their fault. After the whole ordeal I felt disgusted with the situation and how I was treated. Next time I'll go to the Tile Shop off Touhy, I've heard good things about that location after already placing my order at Deerfield. I won't make that mistake again. read more

I was pretty excited to discover this place. They don't carry as many funky exotics as some shops (they are lacking in multicolor glass mosaics), but they do carry a very diverse selection of higher-end materials that will suit most tastes, and prices are on the low end. The staff was helpful when I was choosing my tile. I thought I had hit the jackpot. But my excitement turned to dismay. My tile was defective. My contractor started to install it, then realized the majority of the tile had a major defect that made it impossible to install. When I returned the tile, the sales girl was a snot. She argued with me, telling me my tile was fine. She rolled her eyes at me and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. When she finally shut up and looked at one piece, she realized I was right. But I got no apology, no discount, nothing for the inconvenience--and nothing to make up for her arrogant attitude. She acted like I inconvenienced her. They don't stock the tile on site, so I had to place another order and go home, and make another trip to pick up the replacement tile later in the week. They warehouse their stock out of state and truck it in, so it can take 1-2 weeks to get your tile -- it's not like my favorite discount shop Tile Outlet. Mine arrived quickly but it still didn't matter. I took three trips to get my tile while I could have had it from Tile Outlet in one trip. Now I'm stuck paying my contractor extra to chisel out the mastic that he put down when he started installing the tile. He had to abandon the installation because the product is such crap, and now the installation surface is a mess. Tile Shop? NEVER AGAIN! read more

Also, when I was concern about our floor tile matching, he took each piece of travertine out of each box (14 boxes in all!) so we could compare each pieced. This is a great source! They have a good selection of natural stone & ceramic tile, most of which is in stock. From classic to contemporary they have great stuff at amazing pricing. I suggest you go to some of the high end boutiques then head to The Tile Shop. While they may not have some very funky or super unusual pieces they do have a substantial range of products and certainly would satisfy most project needs and are certainly on trend to what is current. I found their service far superior to most of the other shops in town and even better than some of the showrooms at the Mart. My salesperson was excellent at getting me quotes, samples & following up in a timely manor. Great selection, great service & excellent prices - I highly recommend The Tile Shop & will use them on future projects. read more

based on a sample tile, for which we were assured by The Tile Shop rep that the thickness would be the same as those purchased, we had our shower repair team frame out the replaced portion of our shower. when our contractor picked up the tiles they were actually thicker, and we had to incur the cost of reframing (it couldn't be shaved down). to return the tiles would have resulted in weeks' delay. The Tile Shop would not make any accommodation for their error. we also returned an unused box of tiles and have been told 7-10 days before the refund will appear on my credit card. all other experiences with credits to credit cards are within 1 to 2 days. caveat emptor. read more

This is a fantastic store. It has all the tile needs plus more. When my parents were finally renovating their own home, I went with my mother to this shop and raves about them. If you order to much tile, they will also return unopened boxes. I do hope they eventually add countertops to their inventory. Worked with Elizabeth while I was looking for backsplash tile for my kitchen. She provided amazing assistance and brought to light ideas on design I wouldn't have thought about otherwise. She also kept up the great customer service after the purchase in making sure installation was going okay. The manager Maria is also phenomenal as she came in to inspect a batch of the arabesque marble tile I had installed that turned yellow/green. Provided immediate resolution to the issue. Every time I've come into the store, someone has always greeted me and helped me out instantly. Ask for Jackie! All the employees here seem friendly and courteous, but I would recommend Jackie the most. She knows all the different products' names and features just by looking at them and gave us thoughtful recommendations on what tiles would coordinate. Jackie was also able to give us a discount off the store's retail prices (so be sure to ask). When a tile we wanted wasn't in stock, they were able to get it in stock within about 3 days. We also like the store's return policy, where you can return sample pieces for a 100% refund or, if you've bought a whole order, you can return full boxes of tile (or it seems like you can return specialty tiles, like end pieces, individually). We are taking off one star just because we thought their prices for specialty subway tile pieces were high even with a discount. Otherwise, great choice. read more

I was under a time crunch and had to have tile ready for the contractors immediately. Of course, the tile I wanted was no longer in stock. The new version was just a little bit different than what was on display. Immediately the manager, Krista and Laurie got on the phones and started calling around to different stores. The only way to differentiate between the old and the new was by measuring. Krista had stores all around now measuring the pieces they had. One store would have 5 pieces another would have 12 and so on. We managed to find over 40 pieces. The extra star was earned by Krista actually picking up the pieces from the store that was by her house in Naperville. That saved me tons of time. Here is my story. Decided to build a new house. Went to this shop with the designer to select tiles and marbles. They had beautifully looking on display brown marble tile that was a perfect match for our foyer. Price was good as it was on clearance. Bought 33 boxes which totaled at about $2,500. Well, it was 2014 and we started to build just recently. When it was time to put this tile in the Foyer, builder went through it and said it's not usable. Majority of tiles are damaged and many tiles were cracked and glued back together. Tile was stored safely inside the house so they sold us garbage in the regular factory closed boxes at the price of marble. I bought it with the designer and it was no mention that tile is damaged, they said it's on clearance because it was discontinued and there are limited stocks. So now I lost money and I have to get rid of 33 heavy boxes of garbage "marble". Unfortunately I made some other purchases at this shop, but never again. I am sure there were many other disappointed customers as I noticed this store is falling into decay! read more

We are remodeling our bathroom and have been to several stores and have not found anything I liked.. I really thought I will have to settle for just anything. Well I'm glad I went here. Don't go here. Rachel waited on us initially and was very helpful with our chosen tile and design. However, when I came back to return the grout -- our contractor wanted to use his own brand -- she was extremely rude. She slammed things down on the counter. When I asked for two extra corner pieces, she found them in back. Even though they were covered in soot, she just dropped them on the counter and said "here you are." When I asked if she could wrap them up, she said "we're out of bags." To make matters worse, as our contractor installed the tile, we found she had badly miscalculated the amount of bull nose we needed, even though we gave her exact measurements. I won't go back and don't recommend this place. read more

I've used the Tile Shop in the past for the floor tile in my bathroom remodel project, and found them to be helpful, thorough, and friendly. My second visit there was a totally different experience. I asked for a piece of marble to be cut for my sink backsplash, and was helped by Rachel, who said that it would probably be completed on Monday. When I had received no call by Monday afternoon, I called and was told that "the boss got too busy, and he'll do it tomorrow." Called back Tuesday, and was told that he still hadn't done it and would do it Wednesday. I followed this pattern of calling and being given various excuses until today, when I was told that someone else was finally going to complete the job "because I guess my manager didn't know anything about it." When I came to pick up the piece I said that I'd be happy to pay for the marble, but asked them to remove the charge to cut the stone, given all the hassle with getting the job completed. Rachel responded with defensiveness and a snotty attitude, and refused. When I asked a manager to come over, she explained the situation to him as, "She wanted a cut before it was ready, and now I guess she wants some sort of discount." What a crap attitude! At no point did they apologize for any inconvenience, and Rachel was intent on haggling with me over the $10 that it cost to cut the stone, rather than just removing the charge to be fair. It's too bad because I was looking forward to using them again for my second bathroom remodel. The Tile Shop may be OK for easy, straightforward orders, but they don't respond well at all to complications, and their staff probably needs another training in customer service. read more

I wish I could give zero stars for the Deerfield tile shop location. I needed to fix a small area of grout of my bathroom floor tiles, however the grout paint color the store recommended did not match the rest of the floor when I had tested the grout paint in a small area first as recommended on the bottle. My husband and I decided to regrout the problematic area instead of using grout paint and went back to the store to exchange the grout paint with grout. The sales associate was rude and argued with me that he would not make the exchange for us because the bottle was already opened. Even after I pointed out that the paint bottle instructed you to test a small area first to make sure the color is correct and that this cannot be accomplished without opening the bottle, the sales associate would just repeat the same thing that the exchange can not be made. The store manager watched our conversation but didn't do anything to resolve the situation which just shows that this location isn't ethical and does not value customer service. I walked out of the store with my mismatching grout paint without spending any more money at this store location. No wonder the store had low moral with ineffective workers, but not a single customer. read more

I bought some tile and received a 20% discount. A few weeks later I went back to buy some more product, but the person who was helping me was no longer there. When I spoke with Jarrod, the current store "manager", he offered me a "no interest for 12 months" program if I opened their credit card. When I received my first credit card bill, I saw that Jarrod opened a regular revolving account for me, not a promotional "no interest for 12 months". When I called the store, I couldn't reach Jarrod or any other manager. I had asked for a call back but no one called. Finally, I filed a dispute with the credit card company and requested that they contact the Tile Shop directly. I waited for 3 months for a resolution when I finally got a letter from the credit card company informing me that Jarrod told them that my purchase did not qualify for this promotion! I was stunned. Perhaps he told the credit company that I had imagined, or dreamed up the promotion myself. In my experience, the staff at this location is completely incompetent. read more
