I own an older home and as they began to sand the floor it was apparent that some of the floorboards had to be replaced. They seamlessly installed them and I can't even tell there was a repair. I have also had them make custom runners for me which I love and have held up well. I recommend them to my clients when they need new carpet or floor repairs, and they always do a great job. They are easy to work with. Numerous options in the way of flooring to choose from. Karastan carpeting is the way to go if you want a carpet that will last the test of time. First the good -- everyone in sales and pre-installation is great. Folks in the showroom were super friendly and helpful, gave us all the samples we wanted, and measuring and eventually placing an order was great. They were also super flexible -- we had ordered carpet right before the pandemic hit, and they were very understanding about holding onto it for us until we were comfortable enough to install. Can't stress enough how good pre-installation was. It sorta fell apart once it came installation time though. First sign of trouble was that there was some kind of miscommunication on timing -- we were told a day to install, *possibly* two. When the installer called, he said it would be two for sure, maybe three. (It ended up being about 1.5 days). To ensure air flow (since we're in a pandemic), we left all the windows open with fans everywhere. Within minutes of arriving, the installer complained about the heat and his allergies. I apologized but said we needed to stay safe, and thought that was the end of it. However, throughout the next couple of days, there were constantly snarky remarks about how hot it was, etc. He wasn't wrong -- it was definitely hot in the height of summer -- but as a customer during a raging airborne viral pandemic, I didn't want to hear it 25 times. It was unprofessional at best. I was told they would wear masks throughout the entire installation but not gloves (since they need to handle various tools). They didn't. They were maskless at least 50% of the time. I went through and identified squeaks in the floor to try to address, and each one was met with grumbling. There is a visible seam that runs through our master bedroom. They said it would eventually settle, but it hasn't months later. And then the last straw -- when they were done installing, the left in a huff and proclaimed they were done. When I went upstairs to check it out, they had left big rolls of leftover carpet just laying on top of our stuff in the bathroom. They didn't ask us if they should move it or put it elsewhere -- they just left it on top of our things. I had to lug the rolls down to our basement myself. On top of that, they didn't vacuum/clean up any of the debris. Just left it on the new carpet. I talked to someone at Scharm about all this when they called for final payment, and let them know all of this. They were understanding and sorry, and said they would talk to the installers. But beyond that, nothing. No discount for the trouble. No follow up call or email. Just radio silence. All said it was a bummer, because I think the folks at Scharm are nice folks and I'm happy to give them business. But the installation was subpar and I can't see myself using them again because of that. read more

If you had asked me a few weeks ago what the the one thing I really hate about my place was, I wouldn't hesitate to answer my kitchen floor. When a broken cabinet snowballed into a mini-kitchen remodel, a new floor was a must. My old floor was a dingy white ceramic tile, but that was not the worst of it. The worst was that it was the third layer of tile on my kitchen floor creating a step-up that resulted in a lot of stubbed toes, swearing and on occasion tears. Not being much of a homemaker, I was looking for a reasonably priced, easy to care for, durable yet attractive flooring option. When I settled on Marmoleum*, a friend in the business steered me toward Scharm; a family operated business that's been around over 35 years. Having already done a lot of recon, Fred Scharm came out to measure my kitchen and bring samples so I could make a final decision. He was very friendly and explained not only my options, but also when - in the whole remodel process - the floor should go in. After the measurement, most of my interaction was with Luanne. We traded emails about my order, the quote, insurance (which my building requires), and scheduling. Nothing ever goes according to plan, but Scharm was very flexible with my ever-changing timeline. When it came time for installation, two men came out and installed my floor. They were very polite and had my floor knocked out in no time. A few days after my install, Luanne called to check in on the job. She not only asked if I was happy with their work, but whether the workers were respectful of me and my home. She seemed genuinely happy to hear that I was thrilled with my floor and curious about how the rest of the kitchen project was coming along. With top notch service and reasonable prices, I wouldn't hesitate to use Scharm again. * This ain't your grandma's linoleum! Treats employees like shit. Never offered insurance even after the "90 day" period. Harassed and humiliated multiple employees for minor mistakes. If you talk to someone, I promise they are being fake nice and talking badly about you when you leave or get off the phone. Relieved to have been able to find another job, I should have sued them for harassment and reported them to the BBB. They are not genuine good people. And they hate you too, any nicety is a formality to get your money. Which is all they care about. Certainly not their employees. read more

I used Scharm Flooring to install that hardwood floor in my kitchen.I asked for 3-4 days noticed before they started so I could finish the tear-out.This request confused them and I wound up waiting nearly 5 weeks for the job to be done.Very poor communication skills from this place.They did a LOT of damage to my walls and cabinets with their floor sander.They installed the kitchen floor lower than the adjacent living room floor,then cut into the 65 year old hardwood living room floor and sanded sort of a ramp into it to cover their mistake.It looks horrible.I had the owner of Scharm over here to see it and he was supposed to contact the installers and call me back but 2 1/2 weeks later and he's done nothing.Can't recommend this company to anyone.I paid for a professional job ($2700) but certainly did not get a professional job. read more

I called Scharm because I needed flooring done in my kitchen and on a small landing near the kitchen and I needed it as quickly as possible. Kristy listened to my needs, my budget, and told me realistically what they could do. She was clear with the timeframe of when it could be done, which was not immediately, due to material delivery time, schedule of other customer jobs, etc. I really appreciate that she was upfront with me about the whole process and that even though the job couldn't be done immediately, it could still be done quickly as she understood my urgency. I sent Kristy pictures of my current kitchen and she was able to send me pictures of samples that could work for me in order to get started in the process even though I was out of town. Long story short, the team of installers that came out were respectful and did a great job. My new vinyl kitchen floor is beautiful! Over the past four or five years, I have bought two rooms of carpet, an area rug, repair of an area rugs and both upholstered furniture and carpets cleaned. I have been very happy with the quality of the carpet and instillation. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, especially Louanne and Matt. I am an architect and hired Fred Scharm to install an engineered wood floor in my home. They did a quality job installing our floor, which is certainly the first priority. That said, the rest of our experience with them was awful. Terrible. They installed our floor as contracted, then after the job was done sent us an invoice including a bunch of additional charges raising the cost of the job by almost 10%. When I called Fred Scharm to discuss it, he had an attitude and was completely unwilling to listen. Their installers were rude, often complaining loudly in front of my kids about much work the project was, amongst other inappropriate comments. Fred offered no words of remorse for this, not even an "I'm sorry." There are lots of good flooring installers out there who do a good job and it's highly likely they have much better customer service than Scharm Floor Covering. I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

When we got to Scharm Lisa and Luanne walked us through the process of picking out 4 different types of flooring with such care we felt like royalty. The flooring we chose was unique, the installation was impeckable, and now we only hear comments about how great everything looks from our friends. What a great place! After finding them on angies list and Meeting with owner I thought it was going to be easy and high quality Boy was I wrong. First after playing out order and leaving deposit it took 2 week to tell us the flooring was on back order. Second they never followed up to keep us informed and we had to call them very unprofessional. Then they finally called and told me what day they Where coming Wich didnt work for us so we had to schedule and even later date. Third when they finally came the workers only work a short day so what should have taken 1 maybe 2 days took longer. Forth they didnt order enough flooring so we had to wait a few more days for that to arrive mean time my house was torn apart. Fith the Men WHO came Left my house dirty and left a razor blade rite Where my 2 year old could get it. Sixth I didn't feel they paid Any attention to detail and had to contact owner to address that aspect of there work. And finally they send me a bill for more then they quoted. I could Not recommend them to any body. My advice would be to run from them dont walk run. Worst expirence with contractor ever. read more
