Last time…read morehe repaired and refinished the wood floors in our old apartment, and this time he removed two layers of old, glued-down flooring from our new condo, cleaned the concrete subfloor, and installed new underlayment and engineered hardwood floors for us throughout the entire home, which was a very large project. He was knowledgeable, professional, reasonably priced, had amazing attention to detail, and worked quickly. The whole job (demo to final product) was done in under two weeks, and that included extra time for unforeseen issues, like the concrete subfloor needing to be grinded down and leveled in multiple rooms before floor installation so the planks would lay correctly. Ciprian went above and beyond to make sure the finished product looked amazing and to help us with all aspects of our project. He was kind and professional to our new neighbors and worked within our new building's construction/noise rules, he transported our flooring materials from the store to our new unit and carried them all up the stairs (50 lbs per box, 66 boxes), he finished our master bedroom first so we could move into that space early, and he even returned our leftover boxes of flooring to the store so we could get a refund for the unused products. On top of that, he bought extra matching door trim to fill in the gaps between the top of the new floor and the base of the doorway trim that the previous owners had cut way too high to accommodate the two old layers of flooring. We set up and appointment for Larry and his son Kyle to give me an in-home estimate on replacing about 500 square feet of old carpeting in two bedrooms and their walk-in closets. Kyle walked me through various fiber and style choices and even helped me pick the color. Larry measured the rooms and gave me a quote for installation, moving furniture, and the removal of the old carpeting. The price was very reasonable, so Kyle prepared a contract for me, he checked with the manufacturer for stock status, and we picked a date for the installation. Since I live in a condo, I needed a Certificate of Insurance to present to the building management company so the work could be approved. Larry sent me one without delay. The installation itself was so smooth. The team, Pedro Jr. and Luis, arrived right on time, moved furniture with great care, took up the old carpeting and padding, and put down the new. The master bedroom is large enough to require seams in the carpeting, and they did a great job. When they were finished, they vacuumed thoroughly and even cleaned the building's common areas like the hallway and lobby to make sure there was no trace of carpet and padding crumbs. They were kind enough when replacing the furniture to allow me to measure carefully and they repositioned the furniture to my exact specifications. He does charge more than a few other quotes I received, but his rates reflect the quality of his work. He is very responsive and laid down all of the stain options I was looking at in 4 different rooms throughout my house so I could really see how the color looked in different lighting conditions. He was also able to seamlessly fill in all of the cracks in our floors making them look brand new and did the entire house in less than a week! Make sure you do your research on whether or not you want Synteko for your finish - we ended up going with a water-based finish since we have a dog and little babies crawling on our floors and didn't want to risk the toxins, but I would definitely trust Johnny with the finish if you're interested in it. Finally, about a month after moving in, one of our stair treads broke off and Johnny was able to come and replace it in a matter of days - he asked for the measurements ahead of time, so when he showed up at 8am, he already had the tread pre-cut and was done with everything within the hour. Update: I hired Oliver with Olivers flooring (773) 587-7571 to work on my ugly old stair issue…read more Oliver removed the old crunchy carpet and we realized that the stairs were pretty old and had a lot of glue, paint, staples, nails etc. the best option would be to install new risers and treads, including replacing the landing. He also raised the landing as it was too low and removed the short railing. Oliver did such a fantastic job. My stairs look beautiful. Oliver was easy to work with, prompt, extremely detailed and kept a very clean site. He matched the stairs perfectly with the newly installed flooring in the rest of the house. I would highly recommend him for anyone's flooring needs. He is a perfectionist, takes a lot of pride in his work and is an overall nice person.
