My husband and I wanted to install a hardwood floor in our LR/DR of our Gold Coast condo. After scouring online reviews, we narrowed the candidates to four. Three were eliminated because of the onerous terms of their form contracts, the unprofessional rep who visited us, or the delay/failure to provide a written bid. 312Flooring was completely different. Jesse, who came to bid the job, was knowledgeable, helpful, and obviously had authority to respond to questions and concerns. I consulted with 312 Flooring after a contractor took our deposit, left us with a hole in the floor, and refused to take the wood he left in our apartment. I was in a very vulnerable situation as we are moving in a week so I needed the mess dealt with immediately. After I submitted a request for a quote with pictures, Peter, the owner, asked for more details about the job (probably 5 minutes after I sent the request). We ended up having a 30 minutes phone conversation, including a Facetime of the affected area. He communicated the alternatives and variables in detail as well as the approximate cost. After that, we scheduled a visit for a final quote after physically assesing the project. 312 Flooring did a fabulous job on the second level of my 1980's townhouse floor. The original builders used nails to secure the floor underneath, which resulted in significant creaking when walking over it. 312 replaced warped plywood and re-secured the subfloor to the joists with screws. 312 then installed new carpeting to replace older 15+ year old polyester with similar looking, more durable nylon. I'm very pleased with the results. Floor noise has been reduced tremendously, and carpet feels and looks beautiful. Kudos to Pete who was very kind and patient to work with throughout the phases of this process. Also a big thanks to Juan's team for their excellent work on the flooring renovation. We had just bought a new house and were looking to replace laminate flooring with hardwood in 3 rooms and refinish the kitchen to match. I highly recommend 312 Flooring! Peter and Jesse were really thorough and transparent in explaining the process, pricing, and the engineered hardwood products they use. This was extremely helpful as I've never been through a renovation (though did plenty of Googling about flooring). Of the contractors I contacted for estimates, they were not the cheapest. But they were the ONLY one who took the time to explain everything involved, the ONLY one who mentioned the importance of making sure the floor underneath was leveled (to ensure the product wouldn't bubble or crack, and to ensure the hardwood warranty would be honored should problems arise). I was also really impressed at how accessible and responsive they were. And last but not least, I was impressed by the work that Juan and his team did with the installation. I was looking to have 3 rooms re-carpeted as the old carpet was worn and not comfortable. Requested through Yelp and Peter at 312 reached out, we had a couple of messages and then an incredibly informative phone call. I know nothing about carpeting, on the call, Peter let me know what to expect pricing and timing-wise, letting me know the expected cost of carpeting, hardwood, and other materials. After the call, we set up a visit to my place to go over samples and if I wasn't impressed by the information from the call, the walk through on the different tiers of carpet and pads, followed by helping with the color choice by explaining how the colors will work with the paint on ny walls and would change with the larger area than the sample. Showing me various colors in natural lighting and the light of the room. I never felt pushed into a decision or rushed when looking at the samples. Decided on Devon Parkway in Cosmic color. After helping through all of that, the install crew was able to come out a few days, and that was with it being Christmas a couple of days after the initial visit, that is an amazing turn-around. The crew was amazing, hauling everything to my 4th floor walk-up. The install took around 4ish hours to complete and the final turnout is perfect. They moved the furniture i couldnt move myself and put them back in the exact same spot. Peter was 100% right about how the color would work with my walls. Our basement flooded which was a nightmare but we ended up needing new carpet as a result. I did LOTS of homework about carpeting and carpet salesmen and I decided to go with 312. I'm so glad I did. The differences in carpet salesmen are pretty vast. I was dismissed by a few who were generally condescending and rude, lied to by several others, and got pretty good info from 2 or 3. Peter was the best of the bunch. He was helpful, took his time explaining things, and answered all of my extensive questions. Very nice to work with. In the end it was his long-term experience in the business that won me over. He started at the very bottom of the installer world and eventually switched to sales after learning everything about installing, then opened his own business. But even more than that - he knows his installers and doesn't just farm it out to whomever. That's a huge difference from other shops. I was extremely picky about the carpets and he was very patient with me. I watched over everything carefully - probably excessively - and he was great about it. I called Peter after a disaster from Home Depot installers - I had told there there were subfloor issues and they waited till install day to tell me they couldn't fix it. Peter could. First I will say that Peter's customer service and responsiveness is amazing. He answered my calls right away or texted me that he would call me if he couldn't. The job was a big job and I think Peter's guys just bit off a little more than they could do. My condo is a vintage condo over 100 years old and that comes with its own special set of circumstances. It needed the current floors ripped up, sleepers fixed, new subfloor, and then the new solid hardwood laid. The workers were polite and hardworking, but didn't always pay attention to the details. I would discuss one thing with Peter and agree on a method - but then have to watch and sometimes it would happen, most of the time not till I stopped them and they conferred. I felt like the foreman instead of the customer. I also am unhappy with the way my entry way turned out. It's a little complicated with the many doorways and some of the cuts are short - there is one place that is a particularly large gap. I didn't see it till after when moving stuff back in and getting settled, but I also felt this is something that should have been seen with attention to detail. Picture included. Ignore the quarter round - I'm putting in the finishes on that one since I wanted something extra (I don't blame them for that one). It also has a really large squeak still that I think some screws or additional sleeper could have helped. I know with the age and current engineering of the subfloor spaces (gas lines, conduits electric, etc.) we couldn't get rid of all noise without an even larger project - but I do feel a better attempt could have been made there. Also I know you can use shims in bad areas to help or things like that. I feel this is stuff their crew should have known and presented to me as options - wood floors are supposed to be one of their areas of expertise! I would say 312 is great if you have a newer place or gutted. They can do the job and Peter is responsive. However, for vintage I would check around and keep an eye on the progress. read more

Peter was a great help in replacing the carpet in two bedrooms of our Condo in the south loop. First, he had all the insurance and credentials needed to do work in a downtown condo building, and he was able to procure carpet and complete the job within 2 days! About a week faster than other insured providers. His pricing was also very competitive versus those other providers, the work was completed very neatly (and it was a tough one, with a bunch of small carpeted closets and little nooks), and he cleaned the space up very nicely afterwards. They did a great job. Pete was very communicative and on top of things, got out to measure the next day. The crew showed up right on time the next week, ready to go, worked quickly, and the floors look great. All done in a day at a what I felt was a fair price. But I have to give Antonio and his team and extra shout out. We ran into a problem with an appliance fitting back into its place (old house, nothing is square). If they had said "sorry it doesn't fit, not much we can do here" that would have been completely reasonable. They are here to refinish my floors, not fix my wonky cabinets. But to my surprise, he runs to the truck to grab some tools, shows me the plan, and spends 15-20 minutes fixing the underlying problem for me. Didn't charge me more. Just proactively helpful and solution oriented. I'll give them a call again when we redo the second floor hardwoods. read more
