I had a recent experience when trying to replace a bulb in a pendant light (1 light in a set of 4) that I purchased at Fox over 10 years ago. The issue turned out to involve the transformer in addition to the bulb, and required some modifications on parts in order to make the new transformer work with the existing components of the light. Pat and Julio were FANTASTIC!!! They both went way above and beyond to help me figure out the problem and create the right solution, and they understood my urgency in resolving the problem - I was less than 2 days away from selling my home. Janet rocked my world. We went on a Friday afternoon about 15 minutes before they closed. She said not to worry and take our time. I think the second biggest conspiracy in the world next to the hot dog buns/hot dogs issue is bathroom lighting. There are 7 bajillion light options but try matching your vanity lights to your overhead and you can actually go quite mad. I got over the fact that my vanity lights weren't going to match my overhead light. However the trade off was finding a unique brushed nickel 3 lamp vanity light i liked that complimented the oval sink option I went with. It was even on sale AND there was an additional 30 percent off. Janet even went to the back to find a new one in the box AND had the guys check it to make sure it had all the mounting pieces. With the additional 30% off, I was able to also get the bulbs AND stay under budget! Woot woot. Oh BTW- there is a fox lights on Lawrence. They used to be affiliated but Janet said that the one in the city was more focused on commercial sales whereas Glenview was more focused on residential sales. read more

Amazing Service!! We recently contacted Lighting by Fox regarding an issue with a bathroom fixture we purchased from Lighting by Fox over 10 years ago. The issue was a halogen bulb that was not lighting, despite replacement. We spoke with Pat Benitez who advised us the problem likely was a faulty bulb socket. Pat provided us with amazing service!! She initially reached out to the manufacturer but was told they couldn't help because the fixture has been discontinued. After that, she got the technical people at Lighting by Fox involved. They found replacement sockets online, emailed the info to us, and said that if we obtained them, they would come to our home to replace the defective socket for a nominal fee. I was in the store several times hoping to find and decide upon some new kitchen fixtures. Once I brought my daughter and then brought my husband. Not one employee ever seemed interested in helping us. One seemed put out when I asked her if she could turn on a fixture for me and another seemed annoyed when I asked if she could help. We had an appointment with a store consultant ( we had made that appointment via email a week before based on her time availability ). When we arrived to the store we are told that she didn't come that day. We were really surprised. The customer service was horrible. We are asked to wait to "see if somebody can talk to us ". In completing a pretty large home renovation project, I went to several area lighting stores (I live in Northbrook) and was happy to stumble on Fox Lighting in the ABT design center. I was at Abt for kitchen appliances...another great store. Anyway, I was really happy with the selection and the inventory. Every other store I went to had to special order everything, this store had almost half of what I needed in stock and they ordered the rest which is pretty standard apparently. The salesperson who helped me was nice and helped me think of things that I had not thought of which saved me money. Bottom line, good store, good people and fair prices. Long story short, lighting companies are a dime a dozen. I had purchased two lights: living room fixture and bathroom vanity. We were told that the fixtures would arrive a few days later to the Chicago city location and I had purchased the lights based on this premise due to having a scheduled contractor to work on the lights that weekend. The lights obviously didn't arrive in time and I was essentially SOL. I told the company to just cancel my order and I would buy somewhere else. They said to hold off and that they would take work something out with me once their owners returned from a month-long vacation. I ended up waiting to get the lights and I requested to get some bulbs in return for the issue. They didn't make any accommodations and just said they were sorry. Again, you could get any of these lights from any light company. Go with someone that values more than a sell. read more

Pat and Karen are amazing to work with; they spend the time you need, give very good professional advice, and communicate well throughout the process. The showroom is very nice. They have a great selection and Pat and Karen will flip though catalogs to quickly find the light that will suit your needs. We have purchased 10 or more lights here over the past few years and every part of our transactions went smoothly. Only one light had a issue from the manufacturer. Pat and Karen immediately addressed it, and advocated to the manufacturer to quickly replace the part we needed . It would have been a complete nightmare had we ordered that light elsewhere! They support previous purchases too- I smashed a bulb while recklessly cleaning. I called up Pat and she ordered a new one for me- she knew my light and the speciality bulb I needed. Pat is wonderful to work with! Our construction company referred us to contact Pat for selections of lighting fixtures. Everything went smooth, then one of the pendant light went out soon after the installation. I had to pay Pat for another new one first and get refund when the broken one returned. Reasonable! On one of the day the contracted electrician showed up to work on our electrical project, I forgot to bring the new fixture for replacement. Since then, the contractor and the electrician did not offer to come again for this and I did not want to ask for a favor to replace for free. I called on Pat who offered to contact the manufacturer to have one of their electrician come to help. And a very nice electrician showed up afterwards. Problem solved. I have been to three lighting stores, hoping to find a replacement glass for a semi-flush light. I had given up, and thought I would find a new light at Fox. There were two women working behind the desk, and they worked with me for almost an hour, combing through various manufacturer catalogs until they found the light I had, and found the replacement glass. Worst store experience ever. Would be nice if they were open when they say they were. Doors still locked and phone off well past 10 am open... When I finally went in, there were several sales people at front desk and unenthusiastically trying to avoid helping me. The person I was "lucky" enough to have did not help me at all or ask if I had questions. She recommended I look through some catalogs and did not explain anything about them. Walked around and wanted help and questions answered (only one other customer in store), and was never helped. She just sat at desk and talked on phone some of the time. We recently re-did our entire house, so we needed a *ton* of fixtures, from can lights to chandeliers, to ceiling fans. I think we spent a total of over 30 hours in Active Electric over the course of 12 months (and a correspondingly large amount of money!), but since we spent so much, they cut us great deals. Since we went there often, we tended to be more patient when they had a lot of people on Saturday, and you could tell that they appreciated it--you can only spread 3-4 salespeople so far. We went through dozens of catalogs, they called manufacturers to see if they could get certain configurations of glass shades and fixtures. Overall, money well-spent, and having the help of Skip and crew over here really made life easier. Oh, and be sure to check out their Active Electric store in Chicago on Lawrence. We had a wonderful experience with Fox Lighting. Having bought a home recently that was very much in need of updating we went to Fox to find several light fixtures. We made two visits to the store and were pleased by the quality and diversity of the selection available. Lightting stores get very busy on the weekends, however, we found that the staff was patient and very eager to spend as much time with us as it took to find something we liked. Out sales person was ready with helpful suggestions while respecting our desires regarding our style preferences. The really great example of their service was the day we picked up our fixtures which came in several large boxes. My wife arrived at the store about half an hour before closing only to discover that our Honda sedan would not hold all of the boxes. I left my office to help out but could not get there unitl about the time the store closed. The gracious staff volunteered to stay wtih my wife until I got there and even offerred her a cup of tea while she waited. I arrived a few minutes after closing and there was still someone there to help load the boxes into our vehicles. You really cannot ask for more than that in terms of service. We were pleasantly surprised when we got the boxes home to find that each box had been labelled with the name of the room/area that each light was to be installed. That was a very helpful, thoughtful thing to do. For us that simple step was going above and beyond. Note that we bought ceiling fans from another local lighting store and we did not get this kind of service. We highly recommend Fox Lighting, professional friendly service. We will go back there for all of our lighting needs. One word of advice about shopping at this kind of store. These places get very crowded on the weekends. Go early in the morning before the rush so that you don't have to wait for someone to help you. These folks really do want to help you, but they sometimes have a huge number of customers to serve. read more

I stopped in today to find and purchase a light for our hallway. I was set on finding one and bringing it home tonight, if at all possible, and since they were having their 1/2 off sale, I thought, "Perfect!" I was SO DISAPPOINTED. I can't believe the service. I walked in, was not even greeted in their very small Glenview store. Then, it took nearly 15 minutes and only because I walked right in front of lady at the desk who VERY unenthusiastically said, "Is there something I can help you with?" and acted completely put-out. I told her that I wanted to find and get a light (how easy of a sale is that?!!) and she was just so put out to help me. I wanted to know which lights they had in stock, and annoyed, she told me that they'd have to look each one up. So, I showed her two that I liked and she looked them up and came back at least 10 minutes later to tell me they weren't in stock. (Didn't tell me how long it'd be until they would arrive, didn't ask if I wanted to consider ordering... NOTHING.) I waited and waited for her to come back and help me and it took at least another 15 minutes. There were two other customers in the store (a lady and her husband), who were somehow lucky enough to have two sales ladies helping them. Clearly, they must've thought that I was not worth their time. (Side note: we just bought a house and are completely renovating it, so little did they know, I would have been back to purchase many more lights. NOT ANY MORE.) The lady then said, "You know, we have a website. You can look there and call and see what we have in stock." OF COURSE I KNOW YOU HAVE A WEBSITE. How do you think I found out about your store?!?!?! And, I AM HERE IN THE STORE. Why would I want to go home and look online?!?! She was just so ready to get rid of me and it was so obvious. She was so rude. I can't even believe I wasted so much time in the store. I could go on and on, but it's not worth my time. No one said anything to me when I was walking out the store, and that just sealed the deal. I will never come here again! I walked in looking for an in stock ceiling fan. I asked the sales associate Shelly to help me, who ended up being the rudest and most unhelpful sales person I have encountered. She basically did not want to assist me, acted like I was a waste of her time. She told me they only have 1 style of flush mount fan in stock and basically there was nothing else she could help with with if I don't want that. She just stared at me and was not friendly or helpful at all. I asked her if she recommends somewhere else with in-stock fans and she said "nope". My dinning room doubles as a kid's homework center. But a crystal chandelier hanging high above does not give enough light for reading and writing. So I decided to replace it. Its a quest involves price, style and a need of suffice of light. After a few days of searching on Internet as well as at local stores, I found one that matches the style of the room (gold and crystal) but I wasn't sure if it gives enough light ( 5x60watts bulbs look sufficient but they point upward instead of downward). The price offered by Lighting By Fox beats that of online. Besides there is risk buying online, what if it arrives broken, ? etc. So I came to the store to seek help. Sales persons Linda and Robin welcomed me and offered several ideas. One of them was to put recessed lights on the ceiling. I liked that so much so I decided to go with it. I ended up not purchasing anything from the store after spending several hours on the phone with Linda (who checked details of the chandelier which I was interested with manufacture) and 2 hours at the store with Linda, Robin and the other lady whose name I didn't know. Although I walked away empty handed, I am a happy customer and will sure return at next need and will certainly recommend them to friends and family. My lighting stores visits aren't always satisfying as that of LBF. A year ago I replaced breakfast area lighting. I have to admit that it is not to my satisfaction. My experience using Lighting by Fox has been a nightmare. I ordered 5 fixtures on November 8. 2 pallets with 5 boxes were delivered on Nov. 18, but after unpacking found that 1 light was missing and half of another because some lights were split in 2 boxes. It is now 2 months later and my order is still not complete. Communication has been horrible. I'll be promised a status update or tracking numbers but never receive them. Having an installer make additional trips has also added to the expense. I received another shipment but that was not even my lights! read more

I ordered a full 10,000 sq ft home of lights from this retailer. The bottom line is....they are NOT reliable. Unfortunately from the owner on down, they don't deliver on their promises. I gave them three opportunities to fix issues.....and they didn't. Once they had the cash and the good were delivered, the were not helpful. I would never buy from this retailer again. The merchandise I ordered came in wrong, damaged, etc....I asked for it to be fixed and over a year later, I have given up. read more

Horrible service, don't waste your time. My husband just drove here from downtown Chicago looking for a light fixture for our kitchen. He had one in mind, and had to find someone to help him. The people working there were not helpful and didn't ask to help him. After asking about a specific, fixture they let him know it wasn't in stock and that was the end of the interaction. They offered no help, advice or follow up. They were also taking personal phone calls instead of helping customers. Needless to say, we will not be giving them our business. What a waste! read more

I needed to buy a ceiling light that day, if possible, and thought I would shop this local business instead of Home Depot or Lowe's. Despite 4+ workers behind the desk, I wasn't greeted when I entered; I stood there for a while before finally approaching an employee working a computer to ask if they had a section with ceiling lights. The lady acted like I was bothering her and said there were some in each bay but most of them were toward the back. Fair enough. I didn't think their selection was that great (their website had many more choices, but I wanted a light that was in stock, which is why I went to the store), and I couldn't see or couldn't reach the price tags on the different lights. I was never helped while I was in the store and, after wandering around for a while, I left.
