Prices start at $1.99, which is great until you realize you've somehow spent $80 on pens shaped like sea animals. Awesome cute shop with a lot of items that you can't really find in any big box retailer. Fund to go around and look for collectibles or cute stuff for kids. I like the kitchen area where they have various gadgets that are really helpful in food prep. And the plus is that it's now 1.99 for most items unless otherwise marked. Why Hello, Hello Tokyo. While I do love a Japanese dollar store, Hello Tokyo is not a dollar store. Everything is $2.25 (unless priced otherwise), and quite a LOT is priced otherwise. Which is ok: there's a lot of cool new stuff that wasn't here during my previous visits, like collectibles (all behind cases), and special beauty products (also locked up), as well as the usual -- housewares, stationery, candy, snacks, toys, claw machines, Photo Booth, more. The store is definitely more kawaii and I love it. Very little that I bought was $2.25 -- in fact most of it was not -- Kewpie Mayo, Kewpie dressing, matcha makeup, pet hat, Spy family playing cards.... This place is super cute! Found this location just searching up places around my aunties home. I'm not from the area so I was pretty excited to see that this store was just around the corner. When you first walk in it's a little overwhelming because they have soo many cute things. For little girls, boys and adults. They also got everyday things that you may need. While checking out I noticed that they also sold Pokemon cards. When I asked about the Prismatic the worker said they just received it the day before and it sold out. I was super bummed but I know how popular they are. After checking out, the gentlemen flagged me down and told me he had found a box laying around and that I could buy it! To my surprise I was just ecstatic that he had offered it to me. I was very grateful! Overall, I would definitely come and visit this location again. I brought my daughter for her birthday. If you bring your child on the day of their birthday, they allow the child to shop for 20 minutes and the store will cover $20 towards the purchase. She got various snacks and cute Sanrio items. Afterwards, they also let the birthday kid take a free picture in the photo booth. It's such a nice treat. The only official Daiso store around the Chicagoland area (from my knowledge)! This is a place you MUST visit if you love all things cheap, but cute. Think of it like a Japanese Dollar store where almost every item is $2.25. Anything that doesn't have a price tag is $2.25. Otherwise it is tagged with a price. There are some items in the $5-$10 range and some more than that. I've been here so many times since it has opened. Since opening, the store has definitely increased their offerings to products beyond just Daiso. They have Pusheen and Sanrio dolls, Gundam Models and more! They change their products in and out frequently, keeping up with the latest trends (i see you Kuromi). If you love cute stationary, this place has it all. Notebooks, notepads, pens, erasers, etc. Not the bland ones, the very cute ones! I will say that most of the pens I've purchased have not lasted long, but they were cute nonetheless. They also have expanded their food section with yummy asian snacks, ice cream, boba, etc. I try my best not to indulge, but sometimes I can't help it. They even have those cute DIY your own food boxes! My absolutely favorite upgrade is the $4 photobooth. My family and I have been taking photobooth pictures with my daughter since she was 5 weeks old. It is great that you get 2 physical copies as well as a very high quality digital copy. It is awesome to see my daughter grow up through the photobooth pictures when putting them side by side. Definitely a treasure of mine. The one downside is that they don't allow any returns or exchanges. Everything is final sale. It is what it is. Don't forget to sign up for their loyalty card! You only need to give your email and phone number to sign up and everytime you purchase, just give your phone number at checkout. Note, that you will get promotional emails from time to time. Also, you don't have to worry about driving around the parking lot to get a space closer to the entrance. They have more than enough parking. It's located in a strip mall. Prices are cheap. If you're expecting this to be like $1 for every item then you should look elsewhere. It's not called the Dollar Tree. They have more useful items to clean your kitchen or cups. I saw this place on instagram so I was in the area and decided to stop by. It's in a huge parking lot so parking won't be an issue. The store is medium size but they have so much. I let my kids pick 4 items each. They had a lot of things but some did not have a price. I really did not like that since it was confusing for me to figure out what my kids were spending. Most things were reasonably priced. Other things were a little too high for the quality. Overall my kids had a really good time but we did end up spending over $100. read more

I entered the establishment with every intention to walk out with a bag of goods. Surprisingly, it was quite the opposite. Tons of teenagers and elementary school aged kids were packed in for a Saturday afternoon. The establishment was a pretty good size and it allowed us to have the space to browse around. There was a sign that stated all items were $2.25 (or was it $2.49) and up. It was hard to tell because they used a permanent marker to cross out the price and wrote the new one. There were a good amount of Daiso products from note pads, pens, stickers, kitchenware and house items. I was in California a few months ago at an actual Daiso store so I couldn't find anything that really needed. Also, the items at the Daiso store were priced lower. Hello Tokyo is a decent and fun little shop if you're looking for some Japanese stuff. Not sure why it's they have a sign that says $2 (unless noted), as for me, most of the stuff is over $2. Perhaps it's easier to assume the small little stuff like stickers are $2, and it's easier to inventory/price the other stuff as more than $2? I don't know. In either case, the sign was somewhat redundant. Here you can find some cool snacks, merchandise, and Gundam. I personally would rather go to the Kinokuniya bookstore inside of Mitsuwa as they have a bigger selection, but this is a nice little alternative. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. It is located in a big strip mall near Omega restaurant and a plant store called the Jungle of Niles. My GPS almost took me somewhere else - that's why I mentioned it. So much fun shopping. Everything is a set price. I think it was 250-ish and some specialty items are marked at higher prices. It's pretty much a tile type of store with many of the items being from Daiso with other things mixed in. I think the facemasks and some beauty things are little more expensive here than TJ Maxx, but it is, something you can find consistently while other stores can be hit or miss. I blame my brother for telling my kids about this store. They were excited to see what they might find so we went in. If you've never been to a store like this, it's worth it. We walked through the entire store trying to look at everything and I'm sure we missed a lot. My brother described this as kind of a Japanese dollar store. They did have quite a few items that were inexpensive including some candy and food products. They also had some fairly expensive anime type products as well as a lot of Hello Kitty merchandise. I did find quite a lot of things that I thought would be useful but that I didn't want to have to transport all the way back home. In the end all I personally bought was a teaspoon, which I really liked, and some candy products I had not seen before. Both the kids with me picked out some items that they also purchased and like me they ran across a lot of stuff they like to have. I'm sure we will get back at some later date and hopefully find some more interesting products that I'm just not used to here in this country. There are items that are either more or less & are marked accordingly. The main difference where many of the items are similar to the Dollar Store many of the items are in a distinctly Asian theme. There are a collection of dishes, chopsticks & other items that are distinctly Asian in nature that you won't find at the dollar stores. Hello Tokyo was on my radar for a while. On a free weeknight I committed to a visit. Reviewers are pretty accurate in describing Hello Tokyo as the Asian version of the dollar store. The difference is the minimum price for a majority of items is $2.00 versus $1.00. I found a lot of practical and unique household items here. Although I didn't purchase food, they also have a limited grocery section carrying mainly packaged goods like ramen, frozen desserts, snacks, drinks and condiments. They have a lot of kawaii (Japanese for cute AF) tchotchkes. On my way to the counter, I was suckered into tossing 2 pairs of animal character socks to my already growing shopping cart. My only disappointment with the store was the limited amount of Sanrio items. I'm a Sanrio fan who loves Hello Kitty and Kuromi. It would have been nice to have more Sanrio items in stock. If you happen to be in Niles, have a look at Hello Tokyo. There's plenty of fun and interesting finds where you're bound to find something to take home with you. read more

They have a lot of kitchen, bed, and bath items. They also have a lot of cool art supplies, toys, and some Japanese/Asian grocery and snack items. As an avid Daiso fan, I was excited to check this place out (as I visit home in IL from CA). In short; Hello Tokyo is kind of a disappointment :( The only benefits I can see are there isn't a Daiso close-by so this is the next best thing and there's a tiny offering of anime-related items that I haven't seen before. How come it's a disappointment? The selection is really reduced (partially because the store is smaller) and on top of that, the default price is $2.25 instead of the $1.50-$1.75 at normal Daiso stores. The offerings are also not as useful as normal Daiso stores, and I found myself not buying anything (for once haha) as the things I had on my list were unavailable and nothing else interested me. That being said, the staff are really nice and helpful - it's just the store doesn't compare to the real thing. Just writing to save a trip for those who may not live too close - but also it's still an okay experience if you're looking for Japanese knick-knacks or live close-by. read more

First of all it's a pretty big store with aisles of fun things. They have all kinds of Japanese goodies like origami paper and organizers, snacks, plush, houseware items, stickers, stationary, toys and other random Kawaii items. I was in nearby Schaumburg for the day with 3 tweens. I wanted to find cool things for them to do while we were in the area. I am not sure how I found Hello Tokyo but I have (2) coworkers in the area that never heard of it! It's about 20 minutes away from Woodfield Mall.
