I can always count on nearly immediate help when I walk in...and friendly people. I shop here whenever I can, to avoid the less helpful and hard-to-find staff at ANY big box store. They have many of the essentials and on the occasion when they don't have it, I've placed an order to be delivered there. Ex: needed a folding table for Thanksgiving on short notice, called and they said "we'll have it Weds" even though the website said later ... and I had it in hand the day before a Thanksgiving meal for 20+. read more

Are Zoom Anniversaries a thing? Been WFH for the last year and some office chairs lost some bolts somehow... just FYI, Lowes and Home Depot are a joke when it comes to actual hardware. They have pretty unskilled teens to mostly disinterested department specific staff. Anywho, stopped in today to search for metric bolts to fix up some office chairs. This place has enthusiastic and very helpful sales staff, and is a neighborhood gem that I have just discovered... amazing and quick 15m stop. For $4 two chairs are great now! Every time I try to use a coupon in this specific store, the app doesn't work and the cashiers always push to check without it and will not honor it. Small business and local, this place specifically makes it challenging to keep going local vs big box store, 10% covers less than tax, an extra 5% based on their markup really isn't much. read more

The people are why I come here. They can get anything for you, and offer services like delivery of my snowblower. There is always someone available to help, and everyone gets a greeting when they walk through the door. It makes going to Menards and Home Depot labor intensive...hard to find what you need and certainly not the same level of service. The staff is also very experience and can provide tons of direction. Over the summer I came in because I had to replace the pop up drain in my bathroom sink. I didn't even need to YouTube it. The gentleman walked me through the steps and I did it easily. First time in this particular Ace and I was very impressed that we had multiple store employees approach us and ask us if we needed any help. We didn't as it was literally a lets check it out and see what we "need". Well it turned out our need was the Christmas clearance which had some great prices on things before you know it we left with several bags of items. Keep up the great customer care. 10 stars! My wife lost a keyfob to our car and it's been really inconvenient sharing one key. I was able to find an OEM used keyfob from Ebay which Mathias was able to program quickly and also cut the key. He bailed me out once again as he's done it for our other car in the past! Not only he doesn't even charge much for this service, he wanted to charge even less than the last time. This guy cares about his store and is always super accommdating to his customers. If you live AH, consider yourself lucky as he's so helpful! I've left a positive review on Google in the past so I'm leaving one here for this one as you can only do once on Google. read more

I really want to support small business. However, with my experience today I won't be back anytime soon. There are no signs at the door requiring a mask to enter. I saw two employees without masks along with a customer. When I questioned the cashiers behind plexiglass partitions with masks about the store mask policy, their answers; I can't watch everyone and I didn't notice. Not good responses! I'll update my review after a conversation with Matt the store manager. He explained the hesitation with requiring mask due to backlash they've received. It seems like he will review the lack of signage at the door indicating mask requirements. read more

Matt the manager was extremely knowledgeable about practically every hardware issue I questioned him about. This is why Sherwin Ace Hardware is much better than a big box store (where it's hard to even find someone to talk with much less find some knowledgeable). For example, Matt knew from years of experience which products would get rid of small ants and which of those products are safe. I tried what he suggested and it worked very well. read more

I love this ACE! I moved to the area last year and stop by here a few times a month for random house hold needs. I needed an air filter that was a strange size. I talked to many people at the store and they tried finding it. One employee had heard of the size I needed and knew the Palatine store would have it. He went to call them but remembered that they had some high on the shelf. He found us what we needed and we were super thankful. Going here for anything is so easy. Great service. The best service. Amazing service. "Why-did-we-ever-let-Home-Depot-get-so-big-you-can't-find-an-employee-unless-you're-having-a-seizure" customer service. Always friendly and engaging, right from the moment you walk in. Good at damage control, too - I had a car key cut here, and after a week or so it stopped working. I returned to inform an employee, and IMMEDIATELY he apologized profusely, cut me a new key, and walked out to the car to test it with me. It was free of charge, of course. A month later I was in buying some paint thinner and the employee RECOGNIZED ME, and asked me how the new key was holding up. Amazing! It may seem stupid to fall in love with a store over a $0.99 key, but dangit, this is a place where they act like they actually appreciate your business, and that means the world to a customer-service snob like myself. read more

People at this store are very helpful. I have limited vision and they take me right to the items I am looking for. I went in last week for a new smoke detector and wood chunks and saw a sign on a Weber gas grill saying free assembly and delivery for Rewards card members. Delivered by the owner already to go. Try that at a big box store. This Weber grill is a big improvement over my 25 year old model. Great sear on steaks. read more

When we went to buy a product they only had one and recommended going to another store because we needed 7. After getting the product home, we were unhappy with them. We tried to return them to the Arlington Heights Ace and were told they wouldn't accept them because they don't carry them. The man never looked them up just looked at the box. We expressed they had one when we came to buy them and they were supposed to be getting another shipment in the next week so they must carry them. He still didn't look them up and told us to go to the other store to return them. HORRIBLE customer service. Will never step foot in this small expensive Ace again.
