This review is actually for an online purchase from costco.com and there are some pluses and minuses, but I've listed the review under our go-to Costco in Mount Prospect, for better or worse. Anyway, we knew what we wanted and decided to order a mattress from Costco as opposed to a regular mattress shop as we have always done previously. It was "just" for a guest room queen size mattress and we thought we would see what the experience might be like and we bought a decent looking hybrid firm queen mattress for $800 (listed prices include delivery). Scheduling was seamless and prompt and the deliverers arrived right within their 2 hour window 4 working days after the order. The mattress was nice and clean and new unlike poor experience from some low rated reviewers. The customer service issues we had was with the deliverers who turned out to be 2 younger guys that worked for Costco's sub-contractor Ryder Last Mile. They were friendly and polite, but the first thing was they didn't take their shoes off or use foot coverings. I didn't like that but also didn't say anything not knowing Costco practices. The other thing was when I said don't forget to take the old mattress, they said "you need to call Costco and they will send another truck for it". I was surprised as the Costco.com site specifically said mattress removal was included, but again being Costco, I gave them the benefit of my doubt. I asked them to at least take the mattress downstairs and leave it by the curb, and they complied. After they hurried off, my first thought was I'm glad I didn't tip them as I was going to do if they were nice and competent, but they didn't deserve anything anyway lol. I immediately called Costco.com to schedule the pickup and also complain about the lack of old mattress removal, and the empathetic rep on the phone agreed they should have done so, and he immediately called the management of the cited sub-contractor, who then immediately had the same crew come back and pick up the mattress which they did within an hour. The Costco leverage and quality control really shined then as we have come to expect. In a second later phone call, I called back to complain and pass on customer feedback about their sub not respecting property with their lack of shoe coverings, and again another empathetic Costco.com rep agreed. He also then nicely offered a $50 credit to our account for the bit of trouble and I thought that was a nice touch and again befitting of Costco quality control. Anyway, overall, and despite the mixed experience, we're quite pleased with the Costco.com purchase here. read more

I went to the Costco optical center today to get my 90 year-old MOTHER glasses. She is 90 bedridden in a nursing home. She's never worn glasses before I told the optical department that I had a prescription I would pay for the glasses that I had her head measurements and her eye measurements with me. They said we will not sell your glasses. I said why they said we don't sell glasses unless the customer is in the store. I asked why and she said because they need to make sure the measurements are correct. I said I used an app on my phone to get the measurements. They're gonna be as good as they need to be given that my mother just needs her glasses to see the TV that's 10 feet in front of her. I think overall Costco and Sam's Club are the same like same style of store and all, but I give the edge to Costco - I think it's just a much nicer, cleaner looking store and has a lot of good quality stuff. I always have friendly and quick service at this Costco location, and love their food court area - especially the pizza! I love this Costco, but it's very busy! Overall the employees are usually nice and helpful, but sometimes they seem overwhelmed. This location is very clean inside, with great samples daily. The pharmacy was easy to use with a very short wait time. The parking lot is crowded but this could be due to the fact it's next to a ton of other shops. I love the food court, I don't usually have a long wait here and everything is delicious. They have good local gift cards too, not all the time but some of the time. A huge thank you to the Costco food court staff for helping accommodate a large order in order to feed a marching band and their surrounding middle school visitors. We ordered 80 pizzas earlier in the week and they prepared them for us in 2 batches. The weather was hot so the pizzas stayed hot in the car. This is one of two Costco that we frequent. This location is in Randhurst Plaza across from Home Depot. The parking lot is huge, but in the natural Costco way it's always busy. At this Costco, we are always bound to purchase everything from clothing, household goods, liquor, fruits and veggies, and more. But the main reason why we frequent this Costco is because the staff is always great, and they are generally in stock of items we frequently use. Our most recent visit was during the snow storm last week, when we got there the stuff made sure that everyone who was there was safe and warm during their visit. They got folks through the check out line and I even noticed staff members helping folks putting groceries in cases for the elderly. For the value of purchasing in large quantities, to the quality of service, Costco is just the best all around. :) read more

This is a great place to shop, especially if you want to buy in bulk. The secret is knowing what things cost at your local grocery store. Not all things at Costco are a great deal, simply because you're buying in bulk. For example, one of the best deals at Costco are their rotisserie chickens. At $4.99, they are cheaper than your local grocery store and twice the size. And gas is usually 20-30 cents cheaper. The people they hire here to do samples are VERY slow and rude. They're getting paid and you should have some standards in who you hire and how they prepare samples. I think they purposely go slow when people are waiting. So you're losing business, Costco, b/c no one wants to wait to try something in a packed store you want to grab and go. read more

Costco is awesome. Even if you're a family of of one, you can benefit from just getting gas from Costco. There's everything at Costco, besides pallets of bread and meat. There's a pharmacy (steroids by the bulk... just kidding), a vision department, photos, electronics, and best of all a food court (although food court does NOT require membership). The food court prices are so reasonable. From what I heard, for the classic items (not the new stuff like açai bowl, chili, burger) the price has not changed since its inception. No wonder for just $1.99, you get a footlong hotdog and a drink. You can't beat that! I usually go for the chicken bake since its high in protein (although decently high in fat) but its the best bang for your macro buck. You can come here for your catering needs -- for just $9.99 you get a large ass pizza (cheese, pepperoni, or combo) to feed 4-5 people easily. This Costco, like all Costco's, although have a lot of everything, they do limit the choices of specific products. Meaning, instead of the 10 different flavors of Pringles you can find at a Walmart, you only have 2-3 flavors of Pringles at Costco. Sometimes less is more. Personally, the limited choices keeps me sane. There's been times where I would spend over 10 minutes milling over the 90 varieties of bread at the grocery store (God Bless America). All aisles and rows were kept pretty clear and clean, so navigating the Costco is relatively easy. The times you want to avoid, if you hate crowds, are weekends, and weeknights close to closing time. Other than that, check out Costco for all your grocery needs, or even if you're looking for a cheap place to eat, go to their food court BATHROOM REVIEW: Located near the registers, walk past the employee lounge. The mens are on the right side, womens at the left. In the mens, there are a few urinals and a couple of stalls. First off I want to say the majority of the workers here are awesome, big shout out to Matthew, who I always see interacting with all the patrons in such a genuine way, nowadays we need more of that personal interaction with everyone. Too, I want to say there's a man who is in charge of maintaining the store, he's deaf, but does an amazing job keeping this Costco clean above and beyond, today Czeslaw found my Costco credit card and found me to give it to me. He's always very friendly too. Seriously again the majority of the workers here go above and beyond to make it a great experience. Even on the crazy busy days they all have pretty pleasant attitudes. This is my "go to" location of Costco. All employees that I have encountered have been polite and courteous. They do a great job here keeping lines organized and moving quickly. You can tell that the people who work here really take the extra steps to keep lines moving and are constantly working to provide great service too. I like the layout of this store. Everything is relatively easy to locate and when things do get moved around, you can still find the item fairly easily. Even the sample people here are as sweet and nice as can be. Tire Department - horrible horrible service. I've been waiting for over an hour for them to fix one tire. No one at the front desk, nobody around to ask, my car has been in the 'shop' for 45 min. Nobody is working on it. When someone finally came around and I asked, he said they're taking breaks!! And it will take another 45 min. Always (I mean always) a long line at the cashiers. Then when you get there, the cashiers aren't friendly - especially that big fat moron who takes up the whole path. No consistency when it comes to the list of items on each Aisle - products or type of items are all over - no uniformity. Then lastly, they won't allow flatbed on the self-service - I mean there aren't any signs that said you can't, they just made up rules as they go along, or maybe I got profiled. The overall selection is just okay, and the parking lot can be a bit overwhelming. Here's some takeaways: Their baked goods such as croissants or muffins are good. Average prepared meals. The rotisserie chicken is edible but more often than not it's underprepared or slimy. I also once tried their ribs, and the taste was so chemically. I did recently get their street chicken taco kit, and was surprised that it was pretty good. Produce and bagged salad are fresh. Food court is quick, affordable, and tasty. read more

This review is for the tire center only. The customer service, or lack there of, is atrocious at this tire center. After spending $1000 on new tires I was told that they don't take appointments and I just need to show up when they come in to get them put on. So I show up on a Wednesday at 3 pm - two hour wait, which was not doable. The guy said he'd make an appointment for me for 8 am Sunday. I show up on Sunday at 8 am - I'm not in their system. Guy says to come back at 10 am and he'd get me in right away. Go home and come back at 10 am. Two hour wait. Apparently one of their guys didn't show up. Unbelievable. Low prices on a variety of items and friendly, helpful employees which indicates that they are well treated. Return policies are so lenient that some people abuse them which is unfortunate.
