my experience at Clybourn Menards was AWFUL...i asked one of the managers names teaira for help looking for cleaning products and she was very rude and made me feel rushed then i told apparently another manager brian and he was very nonchalant and doesn't know his job i would not recommend coming to this store: they never have any of the items, they have rats and mice, it's not clean, very dusty, they lie to the customers about the order numbers and dates and prices, they don't care for the employees bc they are still open and it's COVID-19 don't support this store at all. read more

While the layout may be a little confusing, I love this store. Ever since my first visit here, I have cut back my visits to Home Depot dramatically. Great prices, usually helpful staff, large parking lot & a 24 hr propane kiosk. The only thing Home Depot has on this location are longer hrs and the hot dog stand. read more

I am planning an event for my job and suddenly renting tables was not an option. After calling many walmarts, lowe's, home depots and more, I called the Clybourn Menards. Ed was so helpful. I was used to being transferred through more than five employees or simply hung up on. I asked for what I was looking for and he checked immediately. The store had the exact number I needed so he agreed to set them aside for me to pick up the same night. When I arrived a little over an hour later, they were stacked on a cart and ready to go for me. This may sound trivial but it made a HUGE difference in my stress level and the quality of my event set up. It also helps that Menards' product was $7+ cheaper than the competitors. read more

If you've been around long enough, you may remember what the basement was like at an old Goldblatt's Dept. Well, that's exactly what Menard's reminds me of. And back then, the lower level of the store was referred to as the basement. Menard's is just like the old Goldblatt's on Commercial Avenue in South Chicago, once referred to as the Polish Marshall Field's. Menard's has it all...a piddle of this and piddle of that and nothing more than the illusion of having it all. Some lighting, lots of light bulbs, a little plumbing, some electrical switches, lumber, blinds and shades, paints, household supplies, Christmas decorations, off brand food items etc. etc. What Menard's is really missing is a deli counter where you can get sliced lunch meat, ham and salads....now that would really be like an old Goldblatt's basement. Back then, hand sliced deli meats were not available at grocery stores like today. Service here is decent compared to the Home Depot on North Ave. but the selection is poor and many items are out of stock or have been previously opened and returned to their shelves. The parking lot here is patrolled and much safer than Home Depot too. I'd love to give this place 4 stars but it's just not serious enough of a store as it teeters between amateur hardware store and variety store. read more

I like to go to Menards. I get all inspired looking at all the neat house stuff. Menards has just the right vibe... not so macho-construction-worker-tool-belty. They've got decent displays and cheap prices. Using some imagination and creativity you can get your house fixed up for a reasonable price. I get all of my gardening stuff there in the spring time. It's nice that you can look within a 20-ft vicinity and actually find a store associate. It is easy to navigate, no super-high shelves, and you can see where everything is. Problem is, they don't have the right things. They have 6 kinds of barbeque sauce (???) yet they didn't have the right size air filters, no mop sticks even though they sell the mopheads, no spray bottles, and just a crappy selection for many items. It really depends what you need. They have a decent selection of light fixtures, for example. Even my handyman prefers Home Depot, they do have certain products Menards does not carry. Menards kind of reminds me of a country or rural store because they have things that are non hardware related, like clothes. I think they need to get rid of the useless crap! It's in Lincoln Park area for crying out loud. Like selling cheap overpriced fleece blankets in the middle of summer? Like selling ridiculous candles and ugly framed pictures? Good for getting paint, less of a wait then at the "other" large hardware stores, but a hassle to find what you need because they just don't have it. read more

This Menards is much cleaner, more organized, and bigger than its Diversey sister store. I also love how Menards, in general, is a lot cheaper than competitor Home Depot. My family has recently purchased vacuum cleaners here. They were cheaper than comparable models found at Home Depot and even Target. Menards also stocks Rubbermaid organizing units, unlike Home Depot who tries to sell its own brand. They have many free after rebate items, too. read more

I really didn't care for this store, but I'm not a fan of Home Depot either so I can't rave about this place. At least not yet. I'm from the East Coast so I had never heard of a Menards other than the somewhat-cheesy and catchy commercials claiming I can 'save big money'. I don't frequent home repair/hardware stores so I can't really say whether things are much cheaper here but this store feels like a K-Mart to me. It's smaller than Home Depot, but it's somewhat deceptive because of the 'drive thru' lumber yard area. I don't care for the layout and I didn't find the store organized that well either. Plus, unlike HD there won't be as much of a selection at Menards. What Menards does have that HD doesn't is better customer service. Finding someone to help me who didn't appear to hate their job wasn't a problem. I think I would still prefer to go to HD, but I don't have a problem with this place. read more

Being homeowners now means a lot of trips to the hardware store. Not like you would ever hear my companion complain about this. Tired of the bleak vastness at home depot and not to mention the unenthusiastic employees, we trekked to Menards. I immediately liked Menards better because they have a lot more unusual bric-a-brac that I can point to and shout, "Look, Look, we need this". Which prompts companion to wander over from whatever important thing he was looking at to say "What the hell is that?" which I reply to "I don't know, it's Ugly!!!" So what if going to the hardware entails me acting like a complete child. At least I'm willing to go! But back to Menards, I noticed a lot of things were priced less. For example the Rubbermaid cabinets that we had our eye on were $100 less then at Home Depot! The lighting department is at least 2x bigger as well. And as I have mentioned, not all the merchandise is hardware related. Some of the drawbacks are having to listen to that Menard's jingle every few minutes, do they really need to pipe that through? I know I'm saving big at Menard's, that's why I'm here, duhhh. And also a lot of the decor, such as cabinet shelving and paint colors are a little bit too "I heart country" for my taste. They need to get some modern looking stuff in there, I don't want my place looking like grandpa's cabin. I didn't really see any appliances here either, but that's ok, I use craigslist for that stuff anyway. read more

Three and a half, actually. Its Menards. Its not a custom-built location, so the layout is a wee bit different, but they carry the same things as the other locations. Over the last 2-3 years, as more female clientele have been shopping here, the service level has improved. People are more likely to show you where something is than they are just telling you (but that does happen and most of the time the directions are good.) My only complaints are that sometimes they are short simple stuff. Recently it was fly strips. My local Ace hardware saved me there. Oh- I also don't like that lumber and salts and gardening soils are located all the way in the back, but so be it. read more

I visited Menard's to find a few bolts and the necessary tools to put together a bed frame. When we showed up to the relevant department, the person working there did not look up and continued packing the shelf. After we asked for help, he acted as if we were pulling out his teeth. We asked what tool we needed to add the bolts. He gave some vague answer with no follow-up. He didn't offer to show us where to purchase the tools. They didn't have enough bolts, and didn't offer to order us the necessary bolts we needed. We ended up spending a dollar there even though we planned to spend $20+. At least Menard's shelves are stocked. I'm surprised Menard would accept this from one of its customer facing workers, but I guess it's hard to get good help nowadays. My husband and I were purchasing lumbar for some set designs we had scheduled the following morning. It was Saturday night, 5 minutes before close and the employee in the lumbar section did not rush us and took the time to cut the lumbar we selected. This is my go-to place for any home repairs. They always have the exact stuff that I need and they also usually have some unique stuff that you can't find at Home Depot or Lowe's. That is one of the reasons I go to Menard's first: they always have these cool things that you don't see or find anywhere else. They are a large version of that old local hardware store that used to be down the block on any Main Street USA. The staff is very cool and always helpful. I find them very positive and knowledgeable. They remind me of construction workers and skilled trade guys that work on the side at Menard''s just for fun. They also have a drive in lumber yard which makes it easy to pick-up any lumber or bulk landscaping materials you may need. read more

Home Depot has a larger selection, it's displayed better, and if searching for things on its website, is much more accurate than Menards. But the benefit of Menards is that if you want help. the employees do not "disappear" like they do at Home Depot. They are usually at their department desks, and will actually answer the phone when you call. So for selection, Home Depot is often better, unless you drive to the large Menards at North and Kostner, but if you need help, more similar to an Ace or True Value, go to this Menards store. read more

Do not order, shop, or even think about buying anything from this Menards. They are incompetent, rude and they will try to put the blame on you for their own mistake. The manager at this store is the worse manager I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. How he was given a manager job is mind boggling. Never again will I buy anything from Menards and I will make sure my friends, family, my condo association and all other social networks not to shop here as well. I ordered a door, which I thought the clerk knew what he was doing. I asked for a left had door with the hinges on the right side that pushes inwards, but the door pulls outward instead. The clerk knew that and I thought he took note of it. I get the door delivered and it was the wrong one. Called this Menards and talked to the manager which not only tried to put the blame on me (since his employee was NOT in the wrong according to the manager), but the employee didn't even ask anything other than telling me, "oh you need a left hand door" thinking this employee knew what he was doing. Wrong! The manager tried to tell me it was my fault, even though his employee wasn't doing his job right because the employee never asked me anything beyond, "oh you need a left hand door". He wouldn't waive the $60 fee to pick up the door and replace it because they use a third party delivery company and didn't even have the audacity to offer me some type of compensation, or apologize for his employees mistake and the managers own incompetence. I'm done with Menards. The corporate center will know about this manager and the employee that made the mistake. I will take my business to other competent hardware stores such as: Ace Hardware, Lowe's and Home Depot that actually take their customers and business seriously. Huh? This IS a big box store. And it has a big parking lot and a cool lumber yard in back where you can pull your truck ( or Honda Accord) and pick out and up your lumber. There is a definite Superstore Cloud9 feel to this Menards. Everyone tries to help you, but some just don't know enough about the trades to assist, even at the pro desk. On a positive, this store has helped me out of about 30 jambs on a recent renovation project I did when I needed materials in a pinch. It's amazing how much variety they have even if it is hard to find. A nice feature is when you lose your receipt, you can look if up on a computer, print it out and go ahead with your refund. I came here looking for some fresh herb plants, pots, paint and some other stuff for my apt. We were able to find many varieties of herb plants in their garden center. Pots were also easy to find inside. My roommate and I plan on painting parts of our apt as well. We brought in paint swatches that I got from Home Depot and the woman at the paint counter was able to match the colors exactly to the swatches with Menard's handy dandy computer. We were pretty impressed, also because it ended up being cheaper than if we went with the paint found at the Depot. read more

In general I much prefer Menards over Home Depot, it's just not always at the forefront of my mind and I often go to Home Depot because I forget... Unlike Home Depot, their lumberyard and garden stuff is all outdoors... Certain garden stuff isn't as easy to find as a result... Actually their garden selection this year seems to be really lacking in comparison to what Home Depot has. And today I went to pick up some soil and compost, I ended up walking about 15 minutes through the yard to find what I wanted, only to find that the stuff outdoors isn't priced. What you're *supposed* to do is order it at the desk inside, get in your car, wait in line to get in/out (today it was several cars long it seemed, usually there's no line though)... Then drive right to it and pick it up. This actually is a really convenient way of doing things if you're getting a lot at once--load it straight into your car. FAR more convenient than loading 15 bags of dirt onto a cart then checking out, then loading it into your car. However, if you're just getting one bag or so, it's really annoying and time consuming no matter if you do it the "drive through" or pickup-with-cart method.... Often, their pricing here is better than at the very-close-by Home Depot. Their little jingle "you save big money, when you shop Menarddddds" is totally unavoidable. They play it on repeat. I have learned to like it, and I sing along. Everyone sing with me... "you save big money, you save big money, when you shop menardsssss" Employees here are EASY to find and SUPER friendly. You can ask someone in the electrical department where something is, and if it turns out it's in the garden section they'll not only tell you that, they'll walk there with you and find it for you. If you're returning a lot, it takes a long time because they manually have to go through and scratch things off and find things on the receipt, HD is much quicker at this. And they still have real workers at all of their check outs, not droid robots to do checkout too. They don't accept Discover card. If you buy stuff on credit card, you can lose your receipt and not worry. They have a great/convenient kiosk system up front where you can just put in your credit card and it pulls up every item you've ever bought on that card. Wow...I'm new to these! We don't have Menard's in Utah, and they blow Home Depot back a few feet for being more user friendly, not sure how the value aspect works here, but definitely more focused to nerdy unhandy-men like me. They even have colored energy saver bulbs. Hooyah! read more

The worst costumer service ever. I bought a washing machine from them. The delivery sucked because nobody called to set-up the delivery. Called them but nobody responded. So I had to go to the store to confirm the delivery date. The delivery guys called 5 mins before they got to my place. On top of that, they had no idea how to install the washer. They didn't even have tools to use. I gave them $60 for tip and they asked for an additional $20. I was so disgusted. When they left, I tried using it and it almost flooded my floor. I called the costumer service. They said that someone will come out the next day to check it but nobody came. I called them to follow up, they said their going to give me a call back but nobody has ever called me back. My washer has been there sitting. I can't even use it because i'm so scared it will cause more damage. read more

My wife literally had the WORST experience with customer service in her entire life. And it doesn't end at this store, it extends to their corporate headquarters. A few weeks back she purchased a product for around $80. A few days after the purchase, her bank issued her a new debit card to avoid fraud. Unfortunately the product did not work out for her, during the return she was present with her old card, new card, original receipt and ID. With a bank representative on the phone saying she could get refunds of the old card, but sometimes the company would need to call their merchant to clear the hold on the card. Each employee refused to do so including the GM Michael. They forced her into a store credit. We will NEVER step foot in a Menards ever again. She left that day feeling belittled and insulted. She and I have since took every step to file a claim to the company. There is no human to talk with, no one is responding to my emails. The headquarter number which is 715.876.5911 the women hung up on me and now has forwarded the number to a customer service recording. I am furious and fed up!!! There are THOUSANDS of similar complaints like mine. DO NOT SHOP HERE OR SUPPORT THEM!!!! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!! UPDATE: I just spent the last half an hour on the phone asking for where the company has the policy listed that the customer can't get their money back for this situation and he has to call me back because he couldn't find it. He told me that I was mischaracterize his company and that their was nothing he could do for me. Especially the slightly older gentleman in the tools department who has saved me BILLIONS by picking out the perfect tool for me..even if I don't know the name and only half describe what I want.
