One of my favorite places to shop. I come for the holiday decor and dog items. They have great toys and cute dog sweaters. They have great prices on the toys I buy for my dog. Also their bird seed. Huge bags for the same price you'd see for smaller bags at other stores. Staff is always helpful when you need assistance as well. What helps is they have everything you need. I was trying to get 18 two by fours and had to go through at least 40 or more to get that. And I bought the premium so I expected good quality lumber not things that were all splintered up. Very disappointed. I have an extremely bad back and nobody would come help. I even yelled at a yard person. He just sat on his forklift talking to another yard person. read more

Menard's is a mixture of home improvement, kitchen & bath appliances, home decor, books/magazines/cards and grocery items. They also have about 3 aisles devoted for the fur baby in your life. We stop in here on the occassion for a specific item the BF is needing and always end up finding something extra. I find Menards to be pricier than Home Depot with less quality items. It's a cool place to checkout if you have never been in and walk around, I give them that. As soon as you walk in the main entrance there is the discount shelf which is the best area to me. I usually find at least one item on that shelf to take home. The employees are nice and helpful which is a plus. The store is neat and organized. read more

I hadn't been to a Menards in a while and I received the 15% off paper bag with their circular the first week of 2021. It's a paper bag and anything that fits into the bag you can have 15% off of. I stopped in on a Tuesday morning and loaded my paper bag. I bought cleaning supplies, a few nonperishable food items, and some health & beauty. The prices are basically the same as everywhere else but I got the 15% off. The store has an odd mix of merchandise. It's like a hardware store plus the above mentioned items. As a DIY & contractor, I HATE Menards because they make it impossible to get what I need. As a shopper not finding what I need, I end up buying stuff that I didn't know I wanted... BUT it was a good buy. This is a time & financial negative that I can forgive, IF THEY HAD WHAT I NEEDED! Menards = Marketing They offer very little choices yet a selection of EVERYTHING like a "country store" in the center. Most of these items seem to be descent bulk buys to get you to shop here (loss leaders). The problem is when I want hardware or cleaning supplies. 1. The employees have no idea where anything is & little to no experience. 2. The size & layout SUCKS. It seems to be a designed haphazard maze to get you to wonder around & shop. When trying to complete a project, wondering around shopping is not what I want to do. 3. I could forgive this IF marketing people were not the ones making the purchasing decisions for the store. I can explain by using a bucket purchase. (True story & parallels my locking nut to friend's glass block experience here) Most places that sell cleaning supplies have a cheap bucket for $4-8 & basically the same sturdy bucket for $7-15. (There are a few variations like size plus gray or red.) Menards blows away the cheap price with one that cost $2. (Loss leader to advertise. It even has "Menards" name on it so I can advertise for them.) Menards has a weird flexible oversized rubber bucket for $12. (Cool distraction to make you think they have EVERYTHING) Plus, they have all sorts of other buckets.... However they do not carry the standard sturdy bucket most other cleaning supply places carry. I have found that while Menards offers the cheap, the bizarre & a selection... The specific type of value item I am looking for is never here. Menard's is a cross between Lowe's/Home Depot and Big Lots. It's a home improvement store with a mix of everything else too. It has a small clothing area and even a few bizarre grocery items. They even had a pet department, where I found a new dog bowl for my fur-baby. The store is laid out weird, the flow of aisles changes thru out the store making it difficult to shop. However, I am sure it is an advantage of the cash registers. As you wonder thru the store looking for the one single item that you came in for, you find stupid items that you realize you can't live without. I had no idea I needed duck tape with a cute little dog and dog bone on it, but I bought it. It's so cute, I'll probably never use it. If you are a brand shopper, Menard's may not be your store. The majority of the items sold here, were off brands that I was not familiar with. However, being off brand, the prices are very similar to Big Lots. Just be sure to check the quality before buying. Shopping in winter, I was impressed with their patio furniture on display. When it's closer to patio season, I'll go back to see if they expand the selection. This has multiple levels. Checkout from the receipt is 08/10/2020 12:39:46 1. As I am walking in the store a Menards employee cuts me off. He is drinking, has his mask around his chin, and seems to be looking at his phone. He isn't watching at all and I have to stop short to keep from colliding with him. I watch as he continues walking into the customer returns area. He never acknowledges the close call. This is the beginning. Let's call it "target acquired". I'm the target and things will get worse. 2. As I'm checking out, I choose register 12. Surprisingly this is a bad choice. It is directly in front of the exit doors and has just a few feet of clearance between my cart and the wall. I get elbowed by a customer leaving the store as he tries to squeeze through the occupied register. He doesn't acknowledge the elbow just walks out. I raise my voice and the cashier, Rachel #596, says I thought there might be a fight but she never tried to stop the customer or say a single word to him. 3. I look at my receipt and before I leave register 12, I point out to the cashier that she has overcharged me. She counted 5 fifty-pound bags of sand and I only have four. They seem large and generally hard to discount but it happened. She says she can't help. Tells me to go to customer service. (are you getting the feeling that customer service isn't exactly what I'm experiencing?) 4. Customer service is another line, mostly of Menards employees talking to each other. I find someone to refund the money but of course, he has to walk me over to register 4. I mention the walk because I'm a disabled vet. Does that matter? 5. I explain my frustration to him and he says I can take it up with a manager. There are two over there. He points back to the customer service desk where there are a group of Menards employees still hanging out. He doesn't walk me over, try to explain or even say which are the managers. I go back in line. 6. I talk to Andrew Hudson. Go over the issues and point out the layout issue with Register 12. As we are talking, we watch other customers take the shortcut, pushing past those in line. Andrew tells me there is nothing he can do about it. The register layout is a corporate decision. If I have an issue call Menards customer service. I suggest that since there are only four open registers, he can do something about it. Like simply move the open register 12 to one of the other 8 positions where no one is working. Corporate doesn't need to get involved to fix this issue. He hands me the PHONE Number to call corporate customer service. 7. I call customer service, it's a loop. If I have a complaint, I need to fill out the customer complaint form that I can pick up from my local customer service desk. AGGGGGGGGGGG..... The complaints need to be in writing, no issues will be accepted over the phone. Calling does no good. Either Andrew doesn't know the process or he is making it intentionally difficult. 8. I find a number online for the corporate offices. (this is now a quest to rival the search for the holy grail). They quickly transfer me to 715-876-6320 which is of course the number I received from Andrew earlier... AGGGGGG..... 9. I call back corporate and before I could be transferred, I stop the operator and say please don't do that again. Its a loop. I explain things to her and she asks if Andrew is the General Manager. I say yes that was the impression I've been given. She checks. He isn't. The real GM is Greg Townsend, 6365272140. She indicates I can call him directly. She is nice but again, they don't do a "warm" handoff. Instead, I need to call a new number, or stand in a new line, or call corporate and start all over. You know what I mean, it is just infuriating. 10. I talk to the GM, Greg. He is a nice guy. He is frustrated about the associate not wearing the mask. I explain the issue with register 12 the lack of customer service. The staff's lack of customer service skills... He indicates he will review the video to look for the initial associate and will think about ways to handle the traffic flow. Very cordial but he never talks my name or number. 11. I promise to write things up and that is what I have just down. It is just a bunch of unnecessary, painful (for me this is real physical pain as well as the mental grief). I don't understand. Is this the level of performance expected? Am I aiming too high by: asking to not be physically assaulted, not to be overcharged, not to be given the round around, and not asked to address corporate errors is store layout? read more

This review applies to the 3 Menards stores I have shopped (Manchester, St. Ann and Richmond Heights) and, as such, my comments are directed to the people responsible for the company's business model. On the plus side, they feature an incredible inventory with prices and sales that are competitive with Lowes and Home Depot. The down side: 1 - The stores are laid out like a rat's maze causing patrons to walk at least a quarter of mile Example - if you park near the entrance and locate your item nearby you are still required to walk to the other side of the massive store and find the checkout. Then you have to walk all the opposite way outside to get to your car. It is impossible not to spend 15 - 20 minutes walking around in the store. I am certain that is by design to promote impulse sales. 2 - There is a lack of employees (not only now, this was also the case before COVID). Even more frustrating, the few employees you can locate only have knowledge of the area in which they work. If you ask them about a specific item not in their world, they tell you to find another employee in a different department. More walking. I have bounced around like a pinball in those places looking for various items on too many occasion. 3 - Their rebate program is cumbersome and lengthy. Plus , the rebate is only good at one place. Yes, you guessed where. In summary, the bad outweigh the good. As a result, whenever I am going to a big box hardware store it will not be a Mennards. read more

I am sitting in parking lot of Menards in BALLWIN, Mo right now after spending $493 on 6 very heavy 80 inch long bifold doors. Not one person offered to help. I asked for help and was told "not my department." He said the guys in doors disappear and are actually invisible. Found someone at a desk near order pickup, told Them I am buying 6 heavy bi fold doors and was given a cart- no offer of help. Loaded doors myself, headed to checkout and paid. No offers of help. While navigating the large cart and doors out of Store, had to stop because a male employee was trying to get through and did not step aside for me. Still no offer to help. Got outside, loading car and hot myself in head with door- yes my fault, but, still no offers of help from store employees. A customer coming outside offered to help but I was almost done. Immediately after I was done, an employee came and asked if he could have my cart. He definitely saw me struggling with doors and waited to approach until I no longer needed help. I left Lowes to come here for the better pricing. I am extremely disspointed Lowes wins my business from here on due to their MUCH better customer service. One star for service, 2 because pricing was better. read more

I sure hope the Ballwin missouri Menards gave the name to the authorities of the person who bought $2,000 worth of masks, which she ordered at the beginning of February and they had just finished the order the other day. It took that long. I know the salesperson told my husband about this as my husband wAs getting supplies. Of course they had no masks to sell at Menards. Considering they are cracking down on hoarders and over buyers , it is your responsibility to report that persons name to the authorities. Of course no fault or blame on Menards. I was at Menards November 20 for three hours. John was fabulous. Looking at vanities (a couple outsized and not available, unless special ordered). I can work with that. Found a vanity for my basement bathroom. It was perfect and on sale. When John checked, he found the one on the floor was the only one available. I said I wanted it. He pulled it off the floor. Two more vanities to go. One a 60-inch offset sink. I selected an oak pecan for Mbath. Won't be in until December 22. I can live with that. Then the sink/countertop. I selected a granite. First floor powder room vanity. Black. 36 tall. Special order. It will be in December 21. I kept the sink, which I love. Now, that I'm writing this -- I picked up the basement bathroom vanity from Menard's floor. He loaded it into the car. Both special-order vanities came in early -- by about three days each. The reconstruction guys picked them up. Dang, that worked! And I didn't buy bacon. read more

I'm pretty sure Menards has an obnoxious jingle that I wanted to start with this review with but I can't put my finger on it and googleing it is cheating. Compliment me if it comes to you.... I came into a Menards for the first time in my life when I was picking up some primer and pipes I needed for a project. I was pretty confused as I generally am when I enter a home improvement store but it wasn't soooo bad. I was more perplexed by the sheer amount of random stuff they have here. Everything from patio furniture, novelty chip clips, to food. Seriously, I saw someone grocery shopping here. I got everything I needed and even had an employee help me with an item. Menards initially told me I'd be paying a 25% restocking fee on a large purchase b/c I found out I needed a smaller wood stove than anticipated, I attempted to cancel the day after ordering. They made it right after I lit the email on fire, so I think that calls for a review revision considering they were willing to work with me there as a very inexperienced wood stove buyer. Still not too hot though that they charge this large of a fee when you need to return an order (it wasn't even a custom order, just the regularly listed wood stove), 5% maybe reasonable but 25% is crazy, and not too hot on the fact that I had to fight like I did to get it made right. I like Menards fine, but I haven't had an experience here yet that would set the standards of anyone. No one working there knows much about how to help in the customer service department. I went in to rent a jackhammer and the girl at the counter was rude, I.e. No eye contact, no hello, didn't stop what she was doing to ask what I needed, but without looking away from the computer screen, mumbled, 'do you have a return?' ... No. This is the basic trend of the conversation. Almost insulting, but I don't find insult in immaturity. How does one begin? I called the store just before closing time to see if a certain bathroom vanity light was still available. After describing the item and its size, (4 lights and 4 rectangular frosted white panels, 39.5 inches long, 4.5 inches high, brushed nickel finish, contemporary art-deco ) AND the location of the item displayed, the clerk told me that it was the last one and he would mark it for the day crew and they would hold it for me. This morning, I went to the store and the item he held for me was a 3 bulb, yellow/amber antique-floral cone light assembly. But he was right about two things, it was the last item and was had already been sold, and I can see how easy it would be to get the two items confused.(?!?!). read more

My husband and I went to Menards, picked up a few things, and when we got home we realize that we needed to go back...this is not a few miles away but we needed a garden rake. We get there only to find that their inventory was wrong. They were to have 10 on hand but they were actually all out. My advice is if you are buying appliances, stay away from Menards. I have used a number of their competitors and have had no issues. My in-laws bought a stove and dishwasher from Menards and stove worked incorrectly from the get go and was a fire hazard. It took a month to get a refund. Dishwasher lasted 3 washings before it broke. Menards refuses to refund and basically just shrugs their corporate shoulders. We have spoken to a number of repairmen and they all have a negative view of appliances from Menards. read more

If a negative star rating existed, I'd use it for this experience. Very disappointed and I left without purchasing the clothes washer and dryer I'd selected. The good news: Kristen in the appliance area was very friendly and tried her best to answer all my questions, verify stock, and review the delivery agreement with me. That was the extent of anything positive about shopping here. Kristen escorted me to the "delivery desk" to arrange for my appliances to be delivered and installed. I'd also agreed to purchase the 4 year extended warranty for an additional $200 on top of the $1000 for the items. While waiting in line to arrange delivery I notice there's a large screen facing the customers (anyone who cared to look up could view the screen) that displays the customer's delivery info. Name, address, phone, date, notes, purchase, etc. Being a single woman I didn't want my information broadcast so when it was my turn I asked to have the screen turned off. I was informed that was impossible. Um, just unplug it? Nope, not possible. So, I declined to buy the items. I left that area to check out my $540 of other purchases and asked to speak to a manager. A young lady came over, about high school age. I explained my concern of not wanting my PII displayed for everyone and she said "sorry" and stared at me. I asked if there was an option and handed her my paperwork and she said "sorry, no." I said well I guess I won't be buying a washer and dryer today. She folded my paperwork in half, threw it in the trash can at the register I was at and walked back to the service area. That was how the "manager" at Menards chose to provide customer service. Needless to say, I will never shop there again. It's like a Walmart meets Big Lots. Such a shame. read more

Yesterday I used a $10 credit which I earned from previous purchases to buy $200 in merchandise. Today I returned $12 worth of merchandise that I did not need. Even though I had my receipt and everything was in perfect shape they insisted on reassuring a $10 store credit and an additional $2. Very bad experience. Bought a bathroom vanity and vanity top. Both were damaged and had to be returned. The return process is horrible. I believe it would be easier to visit a high-profile inmate in a federal penitentiary or at Guantanamo than it is to return an item at Menard's. First, stop at the security gate, fill out a form, have security initial the form, go to another place behind the store, have them receive the product, have them sign the form, return to the security gate, have them sign the form again, security opens the gate, then go park, go to customer service and get your refund. The whole experience makes me want to go to Lowe's and Home Depot and hug them all! We will never return to Menard's!!! read more

So after doing a bit of secret shopper work this week with an emphasis on hardware stores and service we found that the demise of service that has brought down so many large hardware stores of the past such as HQ and Builders Square. Is never hard to find in the retail industry. With closures of large chains coming fast and quick many have tried to hide the fact that customer service had just plain sucked the big one continually for a long time before these chains finally had to pull the plug. Let me introduce to the next runner up. We went to several Menards in the St. Louis area. The one in maplewood seemed to go out of its way to support the customer in anyway. Then we came across this little gem in Manchester Missouri. In a 5 minute span we witnessed employees ducking between eagles to avoid customers . We witnessed employees in the construction sales department playing on phones and computers at there desks telling us to hold on when told by customers what there expecting were and how they were not being met. Even refusing to get management when requested . When a young blond girl tells a customer they will just have to hold on. I believe this has proven to be the slide of death for any corporate sales industry. The mere thought as a large business owner and contractor that someone would have to nerve to say that when I am trying to make a transaction that will now be a delay in me giving you the business money is. I thing more then total lunacy. My poor interaction occurred at approximately 1300 on 2 March 2017. When I attempted to report experience to corporate they had choose to use hoops and minefields in the disguise of only taking complaints in writing then mailing or faxing them in. I left my name and number with an arguing attendant expecting no further contact or interest of improving the blatant service deficiencies pointed out. What's more appalling is we found 16 other violations of common service support that should have been implemented but simply were ignored. As I exited the store and ambled to my vehicle in thought. The epiphany of an empty lot made me wonder. Did the folks of Manchester already know something I did not. As I arrived my next two hardware stores reality reared its ugly head as a full parking lot greeted me. Alas maybe the people of St Louis county were telling me something. read more

Without a doubt the worst customer service experience in my life. The staff had no product knowledge.When given a SKU # it still took well over 45 minutes the find the product. Not to mention how incredibly rude they to one another(right in front of me) They were also condescending arrogant and downright offensive. I was given incorrect information about payment and no help loading 9 ft fence posts in to my car.When brought to the attention of the manager I was was offered little sympathy or concern. As a frequent Lowes and Home Depot shppper I can say I have never been treated this way at either store. I warn everyone I speak to about home improve mets to avoid Menarda at all costs! I placed three separate orders with Menards on one occasion and will never make he mistake to shop there again. First order was delivered to the wrong address, when I called to ask where my order was, they insisted it had been delivered to my address and refused fault until I was able to track it down myself. Second order I got a written up bid for, paid, and then was called the next day and told that I was quoted incorrectly and owed more money! I had already paid exactly what I had been told to pay! As a previous worker in retail, I have never ever called someone asking them to compensate my mistake! Lastly, I had another order delivered and was told that they would call me 25-30 minutes ahead so that I could get to the property to meet them. They called the wrong number (called on home number when I had given cell as primary)... And when they called they said they would be there in 5 minutes! Hardly time to get there and quite far from the instructions I had been given previously. I will not be shopping any further at Menards and would advise anyone against it, unless you can walk away with the product in hand that day.
