I came in here looking for a canvas bag for my knitting/crocheting. Huge huge store. Carpet in the entrance. So un-Lowe's and un-Home Depot. It's a totally different big box hardware store. Three times now I viisited menards when I could not find items at home depot. The shelving section was extensive and they had the exact types of metal shelf support pegs that I needed while the one at home depot were over sized. They also had the exact type of door weather striping I needed to replace the worn out version on our back door. The one from menards was an exact match and very cheap. Home depot had a wider selection but more expensive and did not have the simple replacement version that matched my standard door. The buyers at menards seem to actually stock the items that I need while home depot has a lot of variety but never the type of simple replacement items that match what I need. Also the brick & paver selection in their garden area is much more extensive than home depot and being able to drive right up to the aisle and load my car was an unexpected bonus. read more

I recently shopped Menards for new stairs and various materials. The gentleman who helped me had the patience of a saint. He helped me get the materials down and we even laid out samples with the material of what my new stair rails and newel posts would look like so i could decide. Ive visited Menards a couple times before mostly just to see what its about. I needed a piece of wood. Thats it just a piece of friggin wood. Somple right? No. Customer service in non existent. Like your on your own. Never again. After a splinter and borderline breakdown I fpund an older gentleman that got wood and made a cut for me. Before that 2 male employees actually pointed at what o wanted said " go get a cart. Pick that up. Go outside and have it cut". No direction, no help, nothing. Im done read more

I spent thousands of dollars at the brooklyn park menards to remodel my kitchen. One thing after another came damaged. Some were not even the right parts. What was supposed to take days to assemble took weeks. The management never once apologized, just told me to return the damaged items. It got so bad I had to write a letter to the corporate office, but the same deal. read more

This store is weird. Where else can you buy a light fixture, a flashlight, a razor, and food? I don't know. Interesting store.

Would not let me return a lawn mower that I have never even started. This is ridiculous. I have talked to Paul Cox in Shiloh IL the general manger and was not helpful and was terrible to deal with. I would like to return the item that I was not able to start. I bought it yesterday morning and their suggestion is that I take it in to a repair shop to spend more money on a new lawn mower. This place is the worst! My fiancé and I came here to get supplies to renovate our bathroom. $650 dollars later we head home with everything including a can of paint. Sometime during our 5 minute drive home the paint can tipped slightly and green paint spilled all over the inside of the car ruining the carpet and leather interior. It was extremely obvious the paint can had not been sealed shut after mixing. My fiancé and I spent 3 hours cleaning up the car, and while it does look much better the interior is obviously still damaged. To top things off when we opened the box of the vanity top a huge corner of the ceramic was broken off. We were able to go back to the store and replace this, but still, after 3 hours of cleaning we were pretty frustrated. Menard's and their insurance company refuse to pay any of the damages to the car, stating it could have been some sort of "chemical reaction" in the paint can, not an employee's mistake. I'm sorry but that's the biggest load of honkey I've ever heard. We obviously will not be returning to Menard's and will definitely tell everyone else to stay clear as well. If I could give a zero I would. Menards has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I purchased a garage door last year and got a rebate check for $50. (Sounds great ) I went back to the store 7 months later because I don't live in the area and spent my rebate check plus $180 in cash. I visited the area again a few weeks later so I brought back 3 of the items I decided to return and they told me I could ONLY GET STORE CREDIT because I had a $50 rebate voucher and that would be getting back to me first vs my cash because they wanted me to spend the voucher even though I spent $180 in cash! I was completely livid and I will never never never never shop here again! I asked them how I would know about that at check out and asked why the cashier didn't tell me when I was making a split payment purchase and he just shrugged his shoulders, the manager. I looked at the check out and it doesn't say anywhere around there that I wouldn't get my cash back. I don't even see how this is legal! read more

The Home Depot and Wal-Mart had a love child and named it Menards. You've got your usual home improvement products but with some of your everyday essentials too. And it's HUGE! They have full size set ups of outdoor living spaces to give you some inspiration and overhead displays of deck railing and Playstar swingsets. They have a drive-thru lumber yard and a really well organized garden center (here's a sample of the different retaining wall stones and how it looks assembled on an endcap, and if you walk down the aisle, you'll find pallets of what's on display). And you can see that throughout - this place is clean, organized, and well-lit - certainly not that dingy warehouse feel you get at a Lowe's or Home Depot. It is brand new though, so I'll be interested to see how it holds up over time. I didn't see the issues with the parking lot that others have commented on, but I also went there later in the evening on a Wednesday. Not exactly your Saturday or Sunday morning crowding. Prices seemed competitive with the other big box stores. read more

After two trips to the store and 5 employees searching the store for a 2000 lumen flashlight on sale Black Friday the 6th and caring employee found the item (not with all the other flashlights) but behind the washing machines in the rear of the store. At the service desk the manager Ian acted like a zombie and denied us the sale price and didn't even apologize for his employees....he said they were all to new to know where anything is in the store. I do truly like the store if you have a floor plan to negotiate your way without spending 1/2 day walking around. the prices are good to normal for a warehouse store. what I don't like is that Menards does not and will not treat the vet or police or fire men with a extra discount like Lowes and home Depot and ace etc. I have written and got a response saying their prices are low enough to make a better price against the competition without recognizing the extra help for people who do or did put their life on the line to protect their freedom to own and run a save a store for them, ie robbery, fire, or in the service. I do match items on the net to see if they are cheaper before I drive 35 mile to their store vs local stores. read more

I like Menards over all. I shop there all the time. However, I wanted to return something for the first time and I ran into a problem. I had made my purchase on my debit card, but I had recently closed that account. I had my receipt and was making the return within the time to receive a refund. They would not give me back my money unless it was on that exact card. I told them that I have a new account (not just a different card for that account) and they said they could only give me a store credit or it had to go back on to my old card. I have made returns or exchanges at other businesses without any problem. I asked then if they would give me cash back since it was on my debit card and was told "no". That's one policy that should be changed or I'm going to be shopping elsewhere. I want to know that I can get my money back if I have to. read more

This store is full of a bunch of junk. Hard to find good quality anything. Reminds me of the old Grandpa Pigeons - which was known as a junk store - not a hardware store. If I want junk, I would go to a junk store. Sorry example of a hardware store. read more

I agree with Lori A. More training in customer service is needed for the employees of the Ballwin store. I was there on Sunday, 7/13 at 10:30 a.m. I wanted to purchase a storage bin for the patio. I finally found an employee to help me locate the boxed item. Since there were none on the shelf, he offered to go upstairs to find one. There was none upstaris and he offered to load up the floor sample on a dolly for me. On his way to get the dolly (which was just one section away) he was stopped by another customer who started asking him directions and questions. He stopped helping me and began showing the other customer what he asked about. He actually walked 3 rows away and totally ignored me and my daughter. I followed him down to the new section but was ignored. I walked out of the store without purchasing anything. A polite comment to the new customer would have been "I'll be with you in one moment, I am helping this lady right now. Stay right here while I help her load her purchase then I an assit you." read more

We needed to replace our roof and went to Menards looking for shingles. We were told that they could do a "roof top" delivery and charged us $113 for that plus $59 for delivery. We had our contractor meet the delivery truck so that he could take them off the lift. Well, turns out that they didn't have the right equipment to to the roof top delivery, and the driver said we were the second ones that day that he was unable to fulfill the promise of the salesperson. He mentioned that Menard's rents a shingle ladder that would help get the shingles up to the roof. Well, evidently not so! Nor does any rental place around here carry that. So now we are paying 4 guys-probably a whole day of wages- to carry these up to the roof. Not happy with Menards! Maybe this is why they don't sell many shingles. If we had realized all of this, we definitely would have purchased somewhere else! One other thing to mention...they did refund both delivery fees but that still won't cover the costs to have our contractor meet the truck and to get these heavy things up on the roof. read more
