Great local hardware store with a variety of options to take care of the customers needs. Large parking lot out front. Easy accessibility without stairs. Great hometown feel. They have everything from painting to hardware items, to Christmas decorations and gardening. It's a better version of any hardware store I have been inside of in my opinion. The staff is super helpful and friendly. The prices are on point for items needed. I really love that they have popcorn that you can purchase so the facility smells wonderful while you shop. Hubby likes to run in here all the time for home and outdoor supplies. He has always raved about the excellent selection they have in such a small space. I've been a few times and also found what I needed. Their space is small so aisles are narrow and there is A LOT of stuff everywhere. That said I found it easy enough to find everything I needed. Prices are very reasonable. I liked that they have natural dog treats, they carry all of our favorite locally produced seasoning - Blues Hog, and the bbq/grilling section is diverse. I have been here 3 times and have experienced the same level of customer service during each visit. That is, none. In fact, rude. I asked for help locating items and each time I was treated like last yesterday's garbage by receiving either a shrug, grunt or being told , "look over there" from 3 different employees (2 men and one woman). To add further to my shopping mistakes, on two of the three occasions the employees engaged in friendly conversations with other customers whom I assumed were frequent shoppers. I far prefer to shop at locally owned businesses, but this "Good Old Boys" place is too exclusive for my money. read more

They are a family business well over 100 years old that specializes in home supplies specifically for this region. But they also have so many supplies for EVERYTHING! My parents are fixing up their basement a little and need something replaced. Trying to prevent my 68 year old parent from having to go in any more stores needlessly, especially as her 91 year old aunt will be waiting in the car. So I called Branneky, which is some 30 miles out from them but would be only 5 from where my parent would be today. I first gave them the words on what I first called a bracket but then Google results tell me is a shelf clip. Al goes, "Now you want me to go check for a shelf clip?" Yeah, I did want him to check for something in stock. Isn't that what stores do? He went away and came back. "We have 3 different kinds and they're 29¢ each." I know it's hard for such old fashioned places at the local hardware store to modernize, but you could ask someone with a smart phone to look up my words or ask me more clarifying questions. Or at least don't be passive aggressive. Be cheerful if nothing else. If it isn't worth it for you to make a sale to me, a first time customer, be upfront. I'm sure it's very irritating to have someone who doesn't know enough about what they need to allow you to be able to help them to their satisfaction. First off I want to say I have been coming to this hardware store for over 40 years. It has always been great to locate hard to find items for older homes and unusual items. I went in looking for some Christmas items. Upon doing so I noticed a lighted snowman on the top shelf. I reached up to view the one that was different behind it and BAMMM. Something struck me right upside the head EXTREMELY hard. It was some heavy cast iron piece with some rod or something. I'm not sure what it was. There was an employee right there stocking shelves as it happened and came over immediately. I reached up several times thinking it had drawn blood because it was a very heavy hit. As i'm trying to shake it off either a manager or owner walks up. I state "I wouldn't put that there again. That is really going to hurt someone" He states "Well it's been there two weeks and no-one else has had a problem with it" in a raised voice showing NO CONCERN for what had just happened or even asking me if I was OK. I then state "Well I wouldn't put it there" and he then repeats "Well it's been there two weeks and no-one else has had a problem with it". I then tell him "INSTEAD OF CRITICIZING ME YOU SHOULD BE APOLOGIZING TO ME! He then walks off mumbling and starts talking to an employee under his breath again showing absolutely NO CONCERN for what had just had happened to me. I then left and have a huge knot on the side of my head and ear with it being extremely sore and swollen as you can see from the photo provided. I've had a headache for two straight days and am considering going to the hospital to get it looked at. It is very upsetting to see that the management had NO CONCERN for my injury. read more

I think that this store is great! My family has been going there since the 1950's. They almost always have what I need and If you have just a little patience you will get great service. They a very family oriented people. I just love walking throw and browsing even if I don't need anything. So peps like Maggie H. and Sam A. will never get good service from anywhere with the same attitude that they display in there review. Some people are just ungrateful. AMAZINGLY TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. 1 STAR IS EVEN TOO MUCH. Here is the story and actual conversation, so you make the decision: I walked in to the store all the way at the end to search some mesh screens. As I was wondering around the counter, the associate was in there, seeing me and ignoring me. I waited for a moment and asked him -Do you work here? - Yes - I was looking for a bug screen in rolls so I can get a specific size - Bug screen? - Yes, a bug screen He kept looking at me so strange and I took him outside the counter to show the samples on the walls. -Aren't these called bug screens? You install them on the window frames to prevent insects and bugs? As I asked him if there is any flame resistant ones on the PVC material ones, his respond was: - It melts! He continued to look at me even more strangely I mentioned him I needed 6ftx10ft - I thought you said you needed a roll! .... Obviously, every question I asked to learn more about the product was bounced back with a strange face, frustration, and unfriendly attitude. I was wondering he was on drugs or something. Of course a customer cannot be technically knowledgeable on the product as much as the associate is; therefore, I was asking those questions. A usual response to sell the product (if they want to continue to do business) would be to educate the customer about the product and to raise the awareness and willingness to buy the product for the customer. He then mentioned to me their largest width is 48" (less than 6' I was looking for) and I, therefore, decided not to buy it. And his response is: -GOOD! NEXT ONE PLEASE! I bought a floor model Poulan chainsaw 2 months ago. The first time I tried to use it, it leaked gas everywhere and wouldn't stay running. I took it back to Branneky, one of the Branneky guys put a washer on the gas tank and said it was fixed. I used it for the first time this weekend and I tried to cut down a 6" Riverbirch. The chainsaw wouldn't stay running, without adjusting the choke while trying to use it. I tried to take the chainsaw back to Branneky, they said my only option was to have a repair shop look at it and see if the repairs were under warranty. 2 months old, used 1 time I now am stuck with 2 options, buy another chain saw or pay a repair shop to fix a brand new chainsaw. That's what I get for believing that the floor model that I paid full price for is just as good as the boxed items. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT BRANNEKY'S AGAIN. read more

The crew at Branneke actually know stuff and have the time to help people on the floor. At bog box hardware stores I tend to wander around looking for what I need, but not at Branneke... and frankly, the staffers are so nice that it's more fun to get their input. Most recently, I couldn't find a cover for my floor air intake register anywhere. I made lots of calls but no one knew where to find one large enough or took extra steps to help. Branneke called their distributor and custom ordered one and, despite our best case expectations, it showed up early, the day before our city inspection! We're moving and will miss being close to Branneke, but I am sure that I'll be making the drive from time to time, when I need someone to actually solve a problem and not just point me to a section of the store. read more

I just love going to Branneky True Value. It is like stepping back into time when you enter the store. I NEVER have to go LOOKING for help. There is always someone right around the front to ask me what I am looking for, and they don't just point me in the direction, they walk me to the aisle and then make sure that its actually what I am looking for. I needed an odd sized basement drain cover. They did not have one in stock, nor did they carry that size. So the guy walked me up to the front of the store where the offices are and handed me off to someone who looked through catalogs for me to see if he could find one to order for me. When that did not turn up any results, he called the city of st.louis to see if they carry one that size. No luck. He did not give up there. He contacted a company located in Wisconsin that he used to order from, and success, they had one and shipped it to Branneky for me. You just don't get help/service like that at the big stores. read more

It's still the best you'll get anywhere at ANY store. I admit that I hit big orange too sometimes, but when I need something obscure, this is the FIRST place I go. I worked at an old hardware store while I was in college, so perhaps I'm a little nostagic. Branneky is the hardware store for people who know how to fix things, and need hard to find parts. If you hate throwing something away because a small part is broken or worn out, take it to Branneky. The place is full of ol'timers, who know what they are doing, and can help you out. I don't hate the big box stores, but they are geared towards selling you new stuff made cheaply in China, and then selling you another one in 3 years. I have never been dissappointed when looking for something to repair things around the house when I stop at Branneky. For instance, I "inheirited" my grandmother's old pressure cooker. You know - the dangerous kind that really worked :) I'm not too cheap to buy a new one, but the old one worked perfectly fine (and reminded me of my grandma canning fruit and vegetables), but for safety reasons, I felt it needed a new gasket and pressure relief plug. I could not find those parts anywhere (even on the internet beck then). I was shopping at Branneky for an unrelated item, and came across the parts I needed. The icing on the cake was that they were inexpensive. I cannot count the number of times that I have needed a small piece of hardware, and they have exactly what I need without having to buy a plastic bag with 12 of them. They will cut glass, and re-screen. They sell seed, fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, etc. What I like most is that they have repair parts to rebuild things instead of throwing them out. They have parts for Weber Grills, lawnmowers, decorative hardware, just about everything. Best of all, their staff is very knowledgeable, and never rude (even when the place is slammed). If you like to fix things, or want to see what a real hardware store looks like, stop in at Branneky. Ohh, I almost forgot. They have a popcorn machine, so take your kids too. Sadly, someday places like this will join the ranks drive in theatres, and your kids will not know what you are talking about. read more
